Total levels on pivot with dimension hierarchy column incorrect

Hi,
I have a pivot table based on a single subject area, based on an Essbase cube.
The problem I have is that some of the totals against the collapsed dimension hierarchy column are incorrect, it is as if they remember the pre-updated state, even though I have bounced the services and turned all caching off.
When I expand the node then the totals appear correctly, but when reverted to the collapsed state it shows nothing again.
I have turned off caching via EM.
I have tried all flavours of totals, default, server complex aggregate et al with the same result for all.
I have double checked the results at source with an identical query in SmartView and the upper level dimension total is populated in its own right, as well as its children carrying totals which do not sum back to zero.
Any suggestions please??
thanks,
Robert.

Can you validate the query hitting to the database and compare the results?
Mark if helps.
Thanks,

  • Report totals with dimension hierarchy column on pivot table incorrect

    Hi,
I have a pivot table based report that has one dimension column, a dimension hierarchy column and various measures.
The row totals do not match, detail to total, and I have tried both complex server based aggregate and report based aggregation, but neither are giving me the correct answer.
I have also tried adding the column that is the same as the top level as the hierarchy, but hidden, but this does not help.
I have also tried adding the lowest level of detail column, but hidden, but this does not give me the solution I need as all of the figures then appear at detail not aggregated level.
    Any ideas please?
    thanks,
    Robert.

  • RPD: Wrong Fact join when utilizing Level Based Measures (TOTAL Level)

I have 2 Facts and 3 Dimensions (Customer, Customer Emails, Time) being used in the RPD. The Dimensions are all set with TOTAL and DETAIL hierarchies.
    Physical Layer:
Fact 1 joined to all 3 Dimensions
Fact 2 joined to all 3 Dimensions
    Business Layer:
Fact 1 joined to all 3 Dimensions and Content Level set to DETAIL for all 3 Dimensions
Fact 2 joined to all 3 Dimensions and Content Level set to DETAIL for all 3 Dimensions
    Metrics:
Fact 1 Metric: SUM set to TOTAL Level for Customer Emails Dimension
Fact 2 Metric: SUM set to TOTAL Level for Customer Emails Dimension
    Issue:
I run a query pulling the metric from Fact 1 along with Dimension columns Email Address and Customer Name (2 Dimension Tables).
2 Physical queries are generated one against Fact 1 to get the Metric total by Customer. The 2nd query to get the Customer and Email Address that hits the Fact 2 table.
    Expectation:
I would expect both queries from above to hit the SAME fact table (Fact 1). I understand the 2nd query would NOT contain the metric (Due to it set to TOTAL), but a relationship exists between the Fact 1 table and the Email Dimension, since the metric is pulled from this table I'd expect the Dimension value to be pulled from this table as well.
I look forward to any thoughts.

Merging Customer and Customer Email will not work as a Customer can have multiple Email Addresses and changes the grain of that Dimension (Customer Level).
Implicit fact would make no sense here, since each Fact has different sets of data.
The basic issue here is that we have a Customer Email table that is NOT at the grain of the Fact or even the Customer Dimension. I would have loved to snowflake off the Customer Email from the Customer Dim but then the metrics get inflated when returned and total on.
Hence we built the Email dimensions to join off the Fact and set all the metrics in each Fact (That joins to Customer) to TOTAL. So the metrics do not get inflated, the metrics repeat (Customer request) for each email per Customer.
    I hope that clarifies.

  • No data for Parent-child hierarchy column in Pivot table view

    Hi all,
    I used OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 Version.
I drag one Parent-child hierarchy column and one measure and show result with a pivot table view.
But when I click "+" icon to show detail level data,
It messaged that: "*the layout of this view combined with the data, selections, drills,or prompt values chosen resulted in no data*."
But it can show every-level data when I used table view.
    It was so strange..
    Did anybody meet this before?
    Thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Anne

    Hi,
Yes, I have the same problem with pivot table for hierarchy dimension.
If you use a normal table (not pivot) it seem to work. Unfortunatley with restrictions as normal table view have.
Same problem still exist in 11.1.1.6.5
I have logged a SR to Oracle about this.

  • 10g Dimension Hierarchy with strange behaviour

I have a Dimension Table (Calendar) with the following columns:
    Date------Year------Semester-----Desc_Sem-------Trimester-------Desc_Trimester--------Month------Desc_Month-------Day
    20110101---2011--------1-----------1st Semester----------1----------------1st Trimester---------1-------------January---------1
    20111231---2011--------2-----------2nd Semester----------4---------------4th Trimester--------12-------------December--------31
My hierachy looks like this: !http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/851/bmm.jpg/!
What happens is that when i drill down everything is ok until the Month level but when i try to drill down from the Month level to the Day level it only shows results if i drill down on February!!!
A bit more information to add here:
    - If on the hierarchy level "Month" instead of "Desc_Month" as the logical level key i choose "Month" (1,2...12) than i have no problems with the drill and it works perfectly...
    - I tried the same thing on the samplesales.rpd and the exactly same thing happens. The hierachy there is Year->Half->Quarter->Month->Week->Day and when we drill from Month to Week we also get no results.
Any ideas here? I've searched for some time now and haven't seen anything that can help me here, to be honest i didn't even find a problem similar to this one.
    Thanks

Not sure if this is the cause, but your hierarchy isn't strictly correct.
In a hierarchy, the key of each node needs to relate to only one parent. You have Day 1 which could belong to January, February etc. This isn't a key, it's an attribute of the detail level. Likewise, your semester doesn't belong to one year, your quarter doesn't belong to one semester etc.
With the data you have, the 'hierarchy' should be very flat:
    [Grand Total]
    --[Year]
----[Detail] (key is date, and day is an attribute)
    --[Semester]
    ----[Detail]
    --[Trimester]
    ----[Detail]
    --[Month]
    ----[Detail]
You could define drills paths between levels to sort out your navigation.
If you want your original hierarchy, then your calendar table needs key fields to identify the parentage.
Eg Semester key is 2011-1, 2011-2. Description is 1st Semester.
This is especially important if you move to 11g and want to use the hierarchy features.

  • Subtotals in a report with hierarchy columns

    Hi Everyone,
I'm using Essbase as a source with OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 and Essbase has two dimensions as below:
Account dimension (four levels):  Total Accounts -> Account Category -> Account Subcategory -> Account Number (Eg: Total Accounts -> Revenue -> Operating Revenue -> 1001, 1002)
Project dimension (three levels): Total Project -> Project Class -> Project Number (Eg: Total Project -> Capital -> 100010, 100011)
I have a report requirement as below:
         Account Dimension         Project Number     Amount
         Revenue                         Total Project          300
           Operating Revenue        Total Project          300
              1001                         100010                  100
                                              100011                  100
              1001 Subtotal                                         200
              1002                         100010                  75
                                              100011                  25
              1002 Subtotal                                        100
I have achieved the required format using hierarchy column for accounts dimension, however, I'm not sure how to achieve subtotals for account number.
Any ideas how to achieve subtotals when using hierarchy columns?
    Many Thanks,
    Seetharam

Hi, I have 2 reports, the first one is working perfectly, here's the code :
    SELECT UNITESOINSCODE, '' || '' || COUNT (*) || '' num_of_emp FROM CLINIBASE_VIEW4MAI where "CLINIBASE_VIEW4MAI"."UNITESOINSCODE" NOT IN ('CHIJ','PREM','CR','NURS') and "CLINIBASE_VIEW4MAI"."DHREDECES" IS NULL and "CLINIBASE_VIEW4MAI"."DHREDEP" IS NULL and "CLINIBASE_VIEW4MAI"."ETATLIT" ='OCC' GROUP BY UNITESOINSCODE
For the 2nd report , how to change the following code to be like the first report?
    select UNITESOINSCODE, max(decode(LITETATCODE, 'FER', cnt, 0)) LITSFERMES, max(decode(LITETATCODE, 'LIB', cnt, 0)) LITSLIBRES, max(decode(LITETATCODE, 'FER', cnt, 0)) + max(decode(LITETATCODE, 'LIB', cnt, 0)) TOTAL from (select LITETATCODE LITETATCODE, UNITESOINSCODE UNITESOINSCODE, COUNT(LITETATCODE) cnt from ETATDESLITS WHERE "ETATDESLITS"."CALCDSCAP" not in ('1') group by LITETATCODE, UNITESOINSCODE) group by UNITESOINSCODE;

  • 2 date columns and one dimension hierarchy

    Hi,
I have one question in OBIEE 10g.
I have one dimension table with 2 date columns (insertedOn, updatedOn)
I created insertedOnYear, insertedOnMonth and updatedOnYear, updatedOnMonth columns from my date columns.
    I have hierarchy
Year -> Month -> Day for that dimension table
and I would like to dril down both columns insertedOnYear and updatedOnYear
    insertedOnYear -> insertedOnMonth -> insertedOn
    updatedOnYear-> updatedOnMonth -> updatedOn
I am able to do it only for one of these columns and not for both.
I can place both columns to appropriate levels, but drilling doesn´t work as I want
Can you tell me how to solve my problem?

Oops, I was talking about 11G. Ok no problem. Do this. In the physical layer, cretea 2 alias tables. Both pointing to the table where you have these 2 fields. The put everything in your BMM. There create the 2 hierarchies using the 2 different tables (that will point to the 2 alias tables create in the physical layer). This will make them unique.

  • Display two members of same dimension hierarchy using mdx on 2 diff columns

    Hi,
Is it possible to print the parent of a member that belongs to a certain level in the hierarchy. For this example, the Dimension hierarchy is a Variable hierarchy based on a Row Source, - BOM - Bill of Materials.
Let say there is a BOM hierarchy with 4 levels.
    Finished Good - Comp1 - Comp2 - Comp3.
Then we want to display in the IOP report as follows.
Finished Good Supply Chain--These are the column headers
    Finished Good1 Finished Good1
    Comp1
    Comp2
    Finished Good2 Finished Good2
    Comp3
    Comp4
    Comp3

    The question is wrong ...
MDX helps you to construct cross-product of indices for the underlying cube and then it tells the system to find whether there is any cell with that index, and if so, returns a value for that combination.
If you put two dimensions next to each other, what does it mean? There is no such combination in the underlying cube as each dimension is uniquely represented. We will throw an error as follows:
You cannot mix-up display semantics with the syntax/semantics of MDX.

  • How to Sort Dimension in Pivot Table via Order Column which is changing like Factual values

    Hi,
Recently in of our product offerings we got stuck on this following question:
How to Sort Dimension based on the Order Value which Keeps Changing with Factual Values??
We have a data source laid out as (example)
In the above the “Order” columns are changing per
    Company/(DimensionA) for DimesnsionB.
Instead what we want is: (But only if we can get the following result without putting the “Order” Column in the “Values” Section.
If there are any configurations that we can make to our power pivot model for the similar data set so that the
DimesnionB in this case can be sorted by the Order column, would be greatly helpful to us.
    Sample File:
    http://tms.managility.com.au/query_example.xlsx
    Thanks
    Amol

    Hi Amol,
According to your description, you need to sort dimension members in Pivot Table via order column, and you don't want the order column show on the Pivot table, right?
Based on my research, we can sort the data on the Pivot table based on one of the columns in that table, and we cannot sort the data based on the columns that not existed on the Pivot table. So in your scenario, to achieve your requirement, you can
add the column to pivot table and hide it.

  • Inserting a level in existing dimension hierarchy

    hi,
I have to insert a new level in existing dimension hierarchy with out affecting other reports.
Please let me know how to do
    Thanks in advance.

I fixed this problem by doing two things. Firstly I deleted
the summary slide at the end of the quiz. This stopped the error
dialog appearing, but the new slides I was trying to insert were
still overwriting an existing question. I then deleted the
questions that were being overwritten, and all subsequent inserted
questions worked correctly. Seems like something got corrupted in
    the question slide.
The quiz result summary page gets regenerated so there's no
problem with deleting it if things get corrupted behind the
    scenes.

  • How to show two seperate pivot tables with one select column

    Hi All
My client wishes to have two pivot tables, one showing positive results and the other showing negative results.
    For Example:
    DIMENSION
    BUSINESS A          1000
    BUSINESS B          500
    BUSINESS C          100
    DIMENSION
    BUSINESS A          -1000
    BUSINESS B          -500
    BUSINESS C          -100
Is it possible to then select the different DIMENSION with one select column for both?

  • Grand total level of the percentage column giving value from the first row of column

    Hi Guys,
I have a requirement like to show the percentage value which the calculation of two columns , in the grand total level .
I think it can be achievaable by giving the aggregation rule for that column as Server complex Aggregate .
    eg.
Fiscal Year  Department  subdepartment   Total cost     Sub Department cost     % cost
    2011           Edu             Books                 500              50                               10
    2011           Edu             Note Book           200            100                                50
    2011           Edu             Furniture             300             30                                 10
    2011            Edu                                      1000           180                              18
    Grand Total
Ideally it should come like as above ..but the problem with me that ,it showing correct value for  all the rows ,but at the grand total level it's taking the value of % cost from the first row . like below..
    2011           Edu                                   1000                  180                         10
    Grand Total
I have calculated the % cost column in the answer itself  as (Sub Department cost /Total Cost )
    where the
Aggregation rule for the columns given are
Total Cost - Sum  ,Sub Dep Cost -  Sum, % Cost - Server Complex Aggregate
So plz suggest me any Idea to achieve this ..Thanks in advance.

Give the agg. as avg for % field.

  • Q : Using column level VPD policies with Oracle Jdeveloper ADF BC ?

For one of our big customer, we already successfully developped a new java application using Oracle Jdeveloper with ADF, ADF BC and the Virtual Private Database (VPD) with row level policies.
Our customer has new business requirements that could be fullfilled using column level VPD policies.
Has someone already successfully (or not) developped a business application using column level VPD policies with ADF, ADF BC on Oracle 10g R2 database and OracleAS 10g (10.1.2) ?
Is it supported by Oracle ? what are the pitfalls, difficulties, problems you've met ?
Is it a viable solution and if not, why ?
    Thanks in advance.

if you know how to get the info from the db during run time you should be able to overwrite the frameworks message bundle look to get the description from the db instead of from the resource bundle.
Or you load all descriptions from the db into a resource bundle and use the keys in the tooltip directly.

  • Changing the dimension hierarchy level keys in RPD online mode caused issue

    Hi,
We tried to correct the dimension hierarchy level keys and remove prefered drill path settings in the business model layer in RPD in online mode. However this caused all the reports and dashboards based off of this subject area to show incorrect, and/or restricted data. The physical query generated by the answers requests were also incorrect.
Even restarting the server and presentation services could not resolve the issue. Can someone please help us to understand what could have caused this issue?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I am not sure why the existing reports throw an error when I change the RPD dimension hierarchy level keys. Does anyone know how I resolve this issue.
This is urgent. Any help will be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
