Touchpad recognised as PS/2 (should be synaptics)

I have an  HP pavilion dm3 with a touchpad which X won't see for what it is! I think this is also the reason synaptics options won't work in X. I have synaptics installed and have tried several variations of X configs.
Main options I'm trying to enable are Emulate3Buttons and RBCornerButton. My Xorg is below:

I have the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 15r (n5110)... Iǜe been looking for a solution for over a month and, until this moment, I found nothing... It looks like you also have an Alps touchpad, and Alps won't cooperate with developers, so there's no module built for this piece of hardware... We can use this psmouse-elantech as a patch, but it will take a while until there's some improvement on a specific module for our touchpads
That's it, and sorry for my poor english

  • Getting laptop touchpad recognised by Syndaemon

    Actually, I'm looking for a way to disable tapping while I'm typing. Reading the wiki, seems to be best achieved through syndaemon. But...
    $ syndaemon -t -i 2
    Unable to find a synaptics device.
    Hmm, thats weird.
    $ cat /proc/bus/input/devices

    Now that is weird (no, I don't have an external mouse )
    I've tried modifying 11-x11-synaptics.fdi and adding the device string, but that only resulted in no mouse at all. Where should I go next?
    Thanks in advance

    I dont know if you still need a solution but for me this did the trick:
    Add the following to /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf
    options psmouse force_elantech=1

  • Sir! My Aspire E14 touchpad is not working , what should I do? I just brought it 1 week ago.

    after I used a mouse just a couple of days its not working anymore. What should I do?

    Zade14,
    Look over the steps in this article, you might have disabled it by accident. If you are having problems with the touchpad working correctly just overall, and without knowing the exact model you are using, I'll suggest a couple articles we created to help with touchpad issues.

  • Touchpad recognised as PS/2 mouse on Asus N750JK

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get the touchpad working on an Asus N750JK. By default it is shown as PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse. I've tried installing psmouse-elantech and psmouse-alps-driver but with no success (at most I can get it to show it as Elantech PS/2 Mouse).
    When running xinput list i get:
    ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
    ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse id=13 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
    ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]

    ↳ Asus WMI hotkeys id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]

    There is new work in Foaltech drivers.
    Code for it is hosted in github: https://github.com/mgottschlag/linux/tree/focaltech3
    More information about it you can found in Ubuntu Launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1372609
    I tried to compile modules for Focaltech for x200ma, but all patches are not working properly (in my builds). So maybe someone can be able to try it out?

  • HT1212 I've updated software on my ipad2, now my numerical password is not being recognised.  What password should i enter?

    I've just updated software on my Mac and synched to my Ipad 2.  However, the first time my ipad asked for my password (which used to be 4 numbers) and I entered my usual numerical password, it told me it was wrong.  I tried entering my apple password but now I am locked out.  Help :-(

    How did the photos get onto the iPad ? If they were synced from a computer then they won't appear in Image Capture (or iPhoto or Aperture, and on a PC windows camera wizard and windows explorer) - there are third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which you can use to copy those back via your wifi network (but photos are 'optimised' when synced to the iPad, so if you do copy them back they may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer).
    If you have photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/website then the iPad should appear in those applications so that you can then copy those photos off the iPad.

  • [Solved]Synaptics Touchpad not working at all on Fujitsu Siemens UH552

    Hi,
    I have just installed Arch on my Fujitsu Siemens UH552 laptop. Everything works except for the touchpad which seems to get loaded by Xorg, but when in X it doesn't work. I have tried both using /dev/input/event* and /dev/input/mouse0 as device paths, neither works.
    xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics are installed.
    I have tried running both with the default 10-evdev.conf, with 10-synaptics.conf, with both, and without both.
    TLDR SOLUTION: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1189603
    My current 10-synaptics.conf:

    Identifier "Touchpad Catchall"

    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Driver "synaptics"

    psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
    Last edited by flako (2012-11-08 09:44:59)

    I have tried doing that with both linux mint, and now fedora live usb. Neither one loads the touchpad correctly.  So yeah, our problems weren't really related
    Anyway, I tried looking into the
    psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
    messages, and tried running psmouse proto (defined in /etc/modprobe.conf/psmouse.conf) as both raw and imps as per https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s … ion/206950 Unfortunately, that didn't solve anything. Using the raw setting meant that the touchpad wasn't loaded at all (as in not appearing in the Xorg.log at all).
    The laptop is quite new, but at the same time what i figured from the touchpad vendor & product ID, the touchpad itself isn't. So it should technically work. Before installing arch i booted into windows to see if everything worked, and found no issues with the touchpad. So I have ruled out any hardware errors. Maybe its just the Fn-key that doesn't work yet in Linux? But that doesn't explain the "psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout" Any pointers to where I should look/ what commands I should run to delve deeper into this issue?

    X reads first configuration in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d then /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
    When you copy 10-evdev.conf file into /etc/X11 you completly override previous system configuration. It's the reason copying synaptics configuration file into /etc/X11 fixes the issue
    Defining default system configuration in /etc/X11 with previous xorg was a mistake, now it's fixed.
    Wiki should be fixed. It's not a packaging bug, but a configuration bug.
    @lordheavy
    I agree with you that the new xf86-input-synaptics package is using the right configuration scheme, however it is breaking the functionality on every installed system. It was a packaging bug, which is now fixed, but it has to be handled manually by most users of previous versions. That's why I won't re-open the bug report FS#41589. Instead, I am asking here: shouldn't this change be notified to the users just like it has been done for most breaking changes on archlinux frontpage news?
    By the way, thanks for your great work.

  • [SOLVED] Hotplugging Synaptics touchpad does not work

    Hey there,
    I tried to hotplug my touchpad with X.org/HAL but to no avail :(
    Here's my /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="info.product" contains="ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad">
    <append key="info.capabilities" type="strlist">input.touchpad</append>
    </match>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">
    <merge key="input.x11_driver" type="string">synaptics</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton1" type="string">1</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton2" type="string">3</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton3" type="string">2</merge>
    <!-- Arbitrary options can be passed to the driver using
    the input.x11_options property since xorg-server-1.5. -->
    <!-- EXAMPLES:
    Switch on shared memory, enables the driver to be configured at runtime
    <merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="string">true</merge>
    Maximum movement of the finger for detecting a tap
    <merge key="input.x11_options.MaxTapMove" type="string">2000</merge>
    Enable vertical scrolling when dragging along the right edge
    <merge key="input.x11_options.VertEdgeScroll" type="string">true</merge>
    Enable vertical scrolling when dragging with two fingers anywhere on the touchpad
    <merge key="input.x11_options.VertTwoFingerScroll" type="string">true</merge>
    Enable horizontal scrolling when dragging with two fingers anywhere on the touchpad
    <merge key="input.x11_options.HorizTwoFingerScroll" type="string">true</merge>
    If on, circular scrolling is used
    <merge key="input.x11_options.CircularScrolling" type="string">true</merge>
    For other possible options, check CONFIGURATION DETAILS in synaptics man page
    -->
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    However, lshal doesn't show that my touchpad's input.x11_driver = 'synaptics' thus X.org doesn't recognise it:
    udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX_port_logicaldev_input'
    info.capabilities = {'input', 'input.touchpad'} (string list)
    info.category = 'input' (string)
    info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX_port' (string)
    info.product = 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' (string)
    info.subsystem = 'input' (string)
    info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX_port_logicaldev_input' (string)
    input.device = '/dev/input/event7' (string)
    input.originating_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX_port' (string)
    input.product = 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' (string)
    linux.device_file = '/dev/input/event7' (string)
    linux.hotplug_type = 2 (0x2) (int)
    linux.subsystem = 'input' (string)
    linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input7/event7' (string)
    I'm at a loss about how to solve this and I've disabled hotplugging as a temporary though not optimal measure. Someone help me :(

  • Xorg 7.4 + Synaptics Touchpad

    I'm having a hard time getting my touchpad to work. At the moment only moving the mouse with my touchpad works. Tapping, scrolling and everything else doesn't.

    My old xorg synaptics input section looked like this:
    Section "ServerLayout"
    InputDevice "Synaptics Touchpad" "AlwaysCore"
    EndSection
    Section "Module"
    Load "synaptics"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option "SHMConfig" "off"
    EndSection
    I installed the package xf86-input-synaptics and copied the synaptics fdi file from /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/ to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/. The current synaptics fdi file (where only moving the mouse works) is:

    Any help is appreciated.
    P.S. The laptop is a Sony Vaio SZ61. I'm not sure if it helps but the sample configuration files from the wiki page http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Tou … _7.3_users when I was using Xorg 7.3 didn't give me tapping or scrolling either (only the one I posted did)

    Actually I've already tried the wiki solution. I don't want the hotplugging or whatever it is called to be on. That's why I disabled it in the xorg.conf. Afaik xorg should use the previous configuration of everything then, but touchpad does not work properly though. However, when I enabled this f***ing hotplugging and copied the fdi files to the directories listed on wiki (as well as to 10osvendor) the X become unstable and furhtermore tapping and scrolling did not function as well. I'm confused...
    EDIT: Thanks Nepherte -> tapping works could you paste here your xorg.conf and fdi, or at least these parts concerning synaptics?
    Section "ServerFlags"
         Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
    EndSection
    Do you have this option in xorg.conf? Without it my keyboard "goes mad" and I am to lazy to search for fdi config files (Polish layout) for hal to manage keyboard by hotplugging

  • Synaptics Touchpad, double finger scroll and tap-to-click

    I've recently lost tap-to-click functionality on my synaptics touchpad, I have no idea why because I haven't changed anything recently.
    Here's my related xorg.conf file:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "SynapticsTouchpad"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "AlwaysCore" "true" # send events to CorePointer
    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option "SHMConfig" "false" # configurable at runtime? security risk
    Option "MaxTapTime" "180" # max time in ms for detecting tap
    Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "true" # vertical scroll anywhere with two fingers
    Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "true" # horizontal scroll anywhere with two fingers
    Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "120"
    Option "CircularScrolling" "on"
    Option "CircScrollTrigger" "3"
    Option "TapButton1" "1"
    Option "TapButton2" "1"
    EndSection
    I'm not sure if I have hotplugging installed so I copied my 11-x11-synaptics.fdi file anyway and edited it:

    I have the same problem, my workaround is setting the options with synclient executed automatically on login.
    Im quite annoyed though that gnome just overrides settings done in xorg and hal policies, can anyone tell where to look for gnomes information storage?

    The synaptics package is called xf86-input-synaptics. You may want to remember  what you have in your config file and do
    pacman -Rn xf86-input-synaptics
    the -n stands for nosave which won't save your old config files, so you can start fresh. Hopefully that helps

  • Configuring Synaptics touchpad (new Xorg again)

    Hi
    I'm one of those who upgraded to the latest Xorg recently. Now I can't figure out how to configure my touchpad scrolling.
    I don't have hal running (but only dbus).
    I have all the default Xorg config files intact (10-evdev, 10-quirks, 10-synaptics).
    I have added a file called 20-conf.conf:
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "DontZap" "false"
    EndSection
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "touchpad catchall"
    MatchIsTouchpad "on"
    Driver "synaptics"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Option "EmulateWheel" "true"
    Option "EmulateWheelButton" "2"
    Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"
    Option "XAxisMapping" "6 7"
    Option "YAxisMapping" "4 5"
    EndSection
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "tap-by-default"
    MatchIsTouchpad "on"
    Option "TapButton1" "1"
    EndSection
    Xorg.0.log seems fine except for the following:
    [ 32.158] Query no Synaptics: 6003C8
    [ 32.158] (--) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: no supported touchpad found
    [ 32.158] (EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.
    [ 32.197] (EE) PreInit failed for input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
    [ 32.197] (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics"
    Now I'm stuck! Please, help...
