Tracing tablespace increase and user causing increase

Dear experts!
Not a dba yet, I have a question regarding the tracing of database resp. tablespace increase. A colleague of mine detected yesterday that the database increased by a 100 gb overnight. A very curious happening that deserves more attention. hence I'd like to know how I can possibly find out, which transactions took place overnight and who (client / IP) issued the command.
Should I look into backup tracefiles, v$sqlarea or do you have another hint?
dba_hist_sql_plan with operation like '%insert%' doesn't produce any valuable details for that specific day.
Thanks for any of your help!
Regards
Seb

If tablespace datafiles have autoextend property you cannot trace tablespace size increase. Otherwise there should be some ALTER DATABASE statement logged in instance alert log.
To trace detailed user activity that writes to database you should use LogMiner if the database instance is in archivelog mode.
If you have Diagnostic Pack license you can try to use some AWR report and check SQL statements section.

  • Creating database and users while reverse engineering

While capturing design of existing databases we have to create tablespace and users.
Does this information have to be the same as the ones in the existing databases.
For ex: if i am capturing design of ESP schema our DBA has created tablespace ESP_dev1 and user ESP for this schema. When i reverse engineer i have to give the same info or this info is diff from real database and the designer repository. I don't understand this concept.
Can anybody explain this to me.
    Thanks.
    Navya.

So, when i make changes to the captured design and regerenate it's not going to use this info, right.
Since default settings are creating system and sys users which are not advisable to create in the real database.
    Thanks,
    Navya.

  • SYSAUX tablespace increasing in size

    Hi,
I have noticed that SYSAUX tablespace increasing in size. This tablespace is being used by the below components. However, none of those components are used by my applications. They are installed by default with Oracle 10g Realese1. what makes this tablespace increase?? and what should be done to stop increasing in this tablespace?

The following is from a metalink post of mine on the same subject>>
The sysaux tablespace is used to hold AWR data among other uses. Reduce the retention and interval setting for the AWR snapshots to reduce the space necessary to hold the data. See dbms_workload_repository package procedure modify_snapshot_settings.
Your statistics collection level will also feed into the above.
Take a look at other features/products you have assigned to sysaux if any and examine the data collection and retention rules you have specified for them.

  • UNDO tablespace increase more more .... spaces

I checked my Oracle database. I found undo tablespace increase more more spaces.
    from 10G , now 40G
    undo_retention = 15 minutes
    Please help me
How I tune and monitor for track this problem?

    Hello HunterX,
You have not indicated which version of database & on what platform. The Version number & platform is very important...I tell you why. Because i had the same issue with my database and handled successfully.
Please check the BUG No. Note:2660394.8 & also note no. 271119.1.
This explains that Undo tablespace is used and after the expiry of 15 minutes it does not use the EXPIRED extents. It again allocates the NEW extents out of your segment of the tablespace....And leads to continuous growing of UNDO Tablespace...
Do the follwoing i feel would be appropriate...Rest you can decide it better....
    1. Create a New UNDO Tablespace may be undo_new of smaller size..
    2. Do not keep autoextend ON and put some max size...may be 1 GB. Do not put it unlimited.
    3. Stop the DB Instance
    4. Change the name of new UNDO Tablespace in INIT.ORA file
    5. Restart the DB Instance.....
    6. drop the Old Tablespace UNDO & delete the datafile...
If stopping of DB Instance is not possible...(for production server), i hv few command which does the above on-line. But i do not remember them at this time...I will hv to refer my docs. If you feel i can try that for you...otherwise you may follwo above points.
Hope that helps to you. Thanks.

  • System and User Statuses Missing

    Hi All,
Does anyone know what causes the system and user statuses to disappear on the main screen of the production order.  Normally we see all system statuses  and the current user status like this:
Status     CRTD PRC  CSER BCRQ MANC SETC  REL
    User Status    ERR
Some configuration must have changed because even though the statuses are in JEST, they are not displayed on the order.
    Status
    User Status
    Thanks for the help,
    Malissa

    Malissa,
Just a different thinking to see, whether we can get some clues.
I would suggest you get into the order in the change mode,  try some minor changes may in terms of operation text etc...and try to save the order. if there are some missing stuff, I am sure now SAP would throw out the error lets take the leads from there on.

  • Unable to expand DG is Lync client - Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown.

    Hi,
I have a user in our Hong Kong office that is unable to open a distribution group she has added to her Groups. She gets the error message "Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown. Contact your support team to investigate."
I can add the group and expand it, so can some of her colleague, and some cannot. Her colleagues who can have the same client and global policy settings as she does.
I read in a similar thread that this could be resolved by confirming the server times on Lync, AD (domain controller checked and Exchange but they were all correct and in sync.
The global policy is set to 250 max contacts - but does a DL count as 1 contact, or does it count all the people within the DG? I am getting HK to confirm she does not have too many contacts but I dont think this is the issue.
Anyone else come across this issue?
    Phil

You can run the command Test-CsGroupExpansion to test the ability of a user to employ group expansion.
For the usage of the command, you can check

I think a similar thing is happening to me on my 2011 MBAir running the latest updates on Yosemite (10.10.1).
First noticed issues on Chrome with websites like FB, Google Docs, some Apple support pages, Gmail, and other random sites. Chrome would show me the "Aw snap" page. Then tried resolving in Chrome by uninstalling extensions and creating a new profile with no luck. Then when I tested it on Safari, similar websites were crashing, except Safari threw up an error log immediately that looks a lot like the one above. The copied and pasted message is at the end of this post.
Then when I was editing a movie on iMovie, it started freezing up with no error messages or warning whenever I tried to edit a title manually.
It seems like a hardware issue, so I rebooted the Mac holding down D (I think) in order to get the hardware checker. Did that, no issues. Also tried repairing permissions.
If I'm seeing a pattern, I'd say that it was crashing on more complex websites like FB and Google Docs. Many other sites work fine, like this page I'm writing this post in, Google searches, etc.
I'm absolutely stumped on this one. The next thing I try will be to reinstall OS X, but I won't be able to do that for a while because it takes about 12 hours on my internet connection...
    Any ideas??

  • Table spaces and Users

I have created a new user and have specified separate tablespaces for both data and index for this users.
Now the problem is the schema objects are to be imported from another database which only has system tablespace, I wanted to know if this schema/user (single) is imported under the one I created in my database, then would it take the tablespaces automatically?

Also you can do import with parameter indexfile=[some file name here]. This won't do the actual import but instead will generate a file containing the sql necessary to create all tables and indexes. You can then manually edit this file to change the tablespace names and then run it to pre-create the tables (without data) and indexes in the correct tablespaces. Be sure to also remove the REM in front of all the create table statements as they will be commented out otherwise.
Then, do your import specifying ignore=y. This will ignore the errors generated by the tables already existing, and insert the data into the tables you already created.

  • EAP-TLS machine and user cert or both

If I use machine and user certificates does that mean the machine get's an IP address, authenticates, the user then logs on which causes another DHCP renew and user authentication?  Is it better to use machine and user or just machine?

It depends on your needs and applications, the advantage of also using machine authentication is that the machine connects, authenticates and is on the wireless network irrelevant of whether a user has logged in, which means you can remote access or monitor the machine at that point. I know alot of facilities that do it that way because they manage the machines with things like SMS, etc..   Without machine authentication the computer won't attach to the wireless until a user physically logs into the machine at which point it pass authentication.
personally I like the machine authentication that way you can push updates and other things to the machines without having to either send a person to the machine to login or waiting for a user to login so that you can access the machine, it just needs to be on.
in short machine authentication replicates being hardwired to the network.

  • Tablespaces used in user schema

    guys,
I want to find all tablespaces used in user schema - scott. I tried using views like v$tablespace, v$datafile.. but doesnt seem to help.
    any suggestions/inputs ??
    Thanks

    hi,
    SQL> alter user test default tablespace users quota unlimited on users;
    User altered.
    SQL> create table test.tab1 as select * from all_objects;
    Table created.
    SQL> alter user test default tablespace example quota unlimited on example;
    User altered.
    SQL> create table test.tab2 as select * from all_objects;
    Table created.
    SQL> column segment_name format a25
    SQL> column tablespace_name format a25
    SQL> column owner format a25
    SQL> select tablespace_name, segment_name,owner
      2  from dba_segments
      3  where owner = 'TEST' and segment_name in ('TAB1','TAB2');
    TABLESPACE_NAME           SEGMENT_NAME              OWNER
    USERS                     TAB1                      TEST
    EXAMPLE                   TAB2                      TEST
    SQL> select default_tablespace, temporary_tablespace
      2  from dba_users
      3  where username = 'TEST';
    DEFAULT_TABLESPACE             TEMPORARY_TABLESPACE
    EXAMPLE                        TEMP
SQL>At a time user have default tablespace. but you can see there object create on any another tablespace .

  • The default priority setting in Mail is set to "normal"  and is causing emails I send to be sent with red priority flag. How can I set default priority to low = no flag?

The default priority setting in Mail is set to "normal"  and is causing emails I send to be sent with red priority flag.
I have found the flags to reduce the priorty level manually to "low Priorty", but how can I set default priority to low = no flag?
    Thank you for advising,

    Try deleting the .plist.
    Quit the application.
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

  • "Nested and User Defined Exceptions" in Java...Theory and Code Required...?

Can anyone provide theoretical information with example code for "Nested Exceptions" and "User Defined Exceptions"..? Or it would be equally good, if someone can provide links for further reading on the said topic.

User Defined Exceptions are the same as exceptions in the JDK, but are defined by a "User"
I suggest you look at the JDK for examples.
A Nested Exception is an Exception with a different exception set as the cause.
This pages covers more than you need to know with examples. [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Throwable.html]

  • Segregation of  global layout and user Specific  for IW38 with Activity 23

    Hi All,
We have issue that users are able to change the Global Layout in IW38 transaction codes, which is causing lot of confusion for other users. Please can anyone help me to do some investigation around how the access to Global Layout and User-Specific layout can be segregated.
We would like to achieve below things:
    1)     Can we control provision access in such way users can only change layout specific to them?
    2)     They should not be able to change Global Layout
    3)     List of roles having Authorization object S_ALV_LAYO with activity 23.
If anyone already faced this issue, can you please let me know how they resolved it
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi David,
    > The standard S_ALV_LAYO object is, so far as I know, no use for normal day to day end users as it over-rides the restrictions?
It's up to the business, but ours wanted the managers to set a global layout for all other users to display only... as sort of a standard report.  I agree with you in the challenge of determining who to give the long-term S_ALV_LAYO w/23 global maintenance access.  We used to have this S_ALV_LAYO in every role that contained a report access (honest design mistake), hence that is why we created a separate role contained just S_ALV_LAYO w/ 23 access  --> to managers only.
In our generic system role that is given to everyone, we have both S_ALV_LAYO (as blank) and F_IT_ALV (as 01, 02) so all non-manager users are able to create/save local layout & still view global layout.
F_IT_ALV activity 70 gives the authority to overwrite other's local layout (the "Manage Layout" access), so we only gave 01  and 02.  Be careful here, as giving 03 (display) will make all other activities inactive.
    Best,
    Alice

  • Check tablespace capacity and quota left?

How do I check a specific tablespace capacity and quota left?
    Thanks!

I guess you do not have 'Select any table' privilege,
Be granted 'Select any table' by SYS or any DBA user. then try.
    SELECT Total.name "Tablespace Name",
            nvl(Free_space, 0) Free_space,
            nvl(total_space-Free_space, 0) Used_space,
            total_space
    FROM
       (select tablespace_name, sum(bytes/1024/1024) Free_Space
          from sys.dba_free_space
         group by tablespace_name
       ) Free,
       (select b.name,  sum(bytes/1024/1024) TOTAL_SPACE
          from sys.v_$datafile a, sys.v_$tablespace B
         where a.ts# = b.ts#
         group by b.name
       ) Total
    WHERE Free.Tablespace_name(+) = Total.name
    and Free.Tablespace_name='USERS'
    ORDER BY Total.name
    Tablespace Name                FREE_SPACE USED_SPACE TOTAL_SPACE
    USERS                             38.1875    11.8125          50
