Track which user changed files - auditing - logging

I work at a school where our OSx 10.6 server is sharing out files to open directory users.  Some of the files require a collaborative effort from a group of students, so they are given read/write access to them.  We've recently had trouble with someone in the group intentionally sabotaging files (InDesign files to be exact).  I've found a way to track times/dates that files were changed, but not who changed them.  Is there a way to track/audit this on the server?  The kids do authenticate as themselves when accessing the SharePoint. If not, are their any good utilities that would provide this functionality that you could recommend?

Here is what you can find using flashback transaction query.
SYS@10G>desc flashback_transaction_query
Name                                      Null?    Type
XID                                                RAW(8)
START_SCN                                          NUMBER
START_TIMESTAMP                                    DATE
COMMIT_SCN                                         NUMBER
COMMIT_TIMESTAMP                                   DATE
LOGON_USER                                         VARCHAR2(30)
UNDO_CHANGE#                                       NUMBER
OPERATION                                          VARCHAR2(32)
TABLE_NAME                                         VARCHAR2(256)
TABLE_OWNER                                        VARCHAR2(32)
ROW_ID                                             VARCHAR2(19)
UNDO_SQL                                           VARCHAR2(4000)You can see the LOGON_USER which helps if you are using different database accounts for your users. If you are using a single database user for your application you cannot see which specific application user made the change. You need auditing for that.

  • Automatic User Device Affinity - Audit logs retention

    Hello,
We have problems on generating primary user info on a lot Computers and we suspect that problem is because audit logs are kept for too short time.
    So the config is following:
    1) User device affinity threshold (minutes): 2880
    2) User device affinity threshold (days): 30
    So there are two questions:
    1) For how long do we need to keep audit logs on SCCM client to successfully generate user device affinity;
    2) How long do we need to wait till information populates in SCCM DB?
    Thanks,
    Pēteris

Also from UserAffinity.log I can see that information is sent with state messages:
"Found same state message existing. (was sent before) Skip sending same state message for user"
    Hi,
You could try to delete state message about the user in WMI on a client to see if user device affinity could be populated. That is stored in root\ccm\statemsg -> Enum Classes -> Recursive -> double-click CCM_StateMsg -> Instances. There
should be messages that contain "domain/user_Auto".

    Hi all,

    Hi ,
the problem is usersign is only connect to userid of OUSR. And the changes is on User Name field.
For example know i make a document PO by using user code manager , user name Jason Butler.
After that i change my user name become Alex, but the user code still same "manager".
After that i re-login and update the Qty in PO doc, that i made before. After that i change again the username, the user code still same. After that i click the show history of the document that i made before. The Updated by and created by are always followed by the current user name that i change.

  • Tracking which users have viewed a KM document

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to track (and display) which individual users have viewed a document stored in KM? (not just the last user to read the doc, but all users who have accessed it).

    Hi Stuart,
Not exist this report, but you can develop it using a filter.

  • Keeping track of user changes

    Hello All,
I have an application containing various screens. The concern is that each screen has various fields. The requirement is that if the user has edited any field and instead of clicking the save button, user clicks on another item in the menu, the system should warn the user about unsaved contents. Can someone give some inputs about how to proceed?

You will have to set a flag when ever a field change occurs. Clear the flag when the user clicks on the save button, then at the menu level check the flag - if the flag is set do your thing with warning the user.
The only other way would be to keep the origional values of all the fields when the screen(s) initially start and save them again when the user saves them. When the user clicks on the menu check the current field values against the saved values - if there is a change warn the user.
Note you will need to be careful and make sure the screen(s) are still open when when checking at the menu level.

  • Is it possible to see list history (e.g: which user removed column from list)

    Hello there,
I know it is possible to see version history of items and pages, but what about the lists itself?
    For example:
Is it possible to see which user added/removed a column from a list?
Is it possible to see which user changed a certain view from a list?
    Thanks in advance!

There's an auditing event fired when a user modifies content types or columns in a list. To make use of this you'll need to enable auditing if it's not already enabled.
I'm not sure about the view and I'm having trouble trying to find information about it because most of the documentation talks about VIEWing the audit reports. :)

  • How to track OWB mapping changes?

    Hi,
I'm a new bee to OWB. And I have a scenario where in more than one person will work on the same mapping. so I dont see any way to track the changes made by others. Is there a way to track who updated the OWB mapping last time and the changes they have done on the mapping??
    Any help is Appreciated.
    Thanks!!

I don't think there is a good way to track details for changes.  There is a snapshot feature, but I don't think you can see what the specific modifications were.  I don't use it.  I use periodic mdl backups in case I need to recover the design (fortunately never had to do it) or to move updated objects across (when needed I track which objects changed in a spreadsheet).  I also use a fairly primitve way of tracking my changes by storing prior versions of mappings (not all).  If I want to keep a prior version, I copy the mapping and add '_V#' at the end.  This indicates my last prior version.  Then if I want to create another copy I will rename the current '_V#' to '_V1' (i.e. '_Vn').  Next I will create a copy of the current mapping and add the '_V#' at the end.  Nothing sophisticated, but I use this sometimes and cleanup as things progress.
If there is a way to track and see all detail changes I would love to hear about it also.
    Thanks!

  • Help please, spacific file update only changed files when moved

I record live bands and file size can be very large when i make changes to files i want to save time and resources by only updating what has changed without replacing the whole file. when moving files from desktop to external drive.
say i have a file named "jam" that i add files to on my external drive then i copy it to my internal drive, do some edditing and add some files. when i move it back to external drive i want to update the "jam" file add the new files and changed files without having to keep track of the changed files and not transfer the files that havent changed. can anyone help?

Only files and folders below directory "/emmc" will show up in windows explorer.
You will also not be able to edit (add/delete) files to the /system/media/audio/notifications folder (or just about any folder above /emmc) . This is because you do not have administrator access (for lack of a better term) to the phone.
So, if it's that important to you, you'll have to find a way to tell the phone you're an administrator
Windows Explorer correctly identifies these as two separate drives. There is, after all, a built in drive as well as the swappable SDcard.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Hello Gurus,
Is there any way to track the history of which users logged in to DB at what time etc?
Like if a DB has 4 users say user_1, user_2, user_3 and user_4. Is there way to get the details of when any of these have logged on to DB?
I suppose Oracle may be storing the history in some base tables.

    Hi there,
How to find out which users are using SharePoint Designer to make changes in SharePoint 2010 site?
    Thanks.

You need to enable auditing on SharePoint server and it will let you know, if someone makes any critical changes for the same.
Please walk through this informative KB to enable auditing on SharePoint :https://support.office.com/en-za/article/Configure-audit-settings-for-a-site-collection-f5a346d0-ee0f-4412-a5e6-d9b5abaa1012

  • The format of Audit log file

We have a perl script to extract data from Audit log files(Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0) which have format as bellow.

After we update the db from Release 10.2.0.1.0 to Release 10.2.0.4.0, the format of Audit log file had been changed to something likes below.
    Audit file /u03/oracle/admin/NIKKOU/adump/ora_1897.aud
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

Because we have to rewrite the perl script, could anyone tell us where we can find the manual to describe the format of the Audit log file.

Oracle publishes views of the audit trail data. You can find a list of the views for the 11.1 database here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/network.111/b28531/auditing.htm#BCGIICFE
The audit trail does not really change between patchsets as that would constitute underlying structure changes and right now, the developers are not allowed to change the underlying structure of tables in patchsets. But, we can change what may be displayed in a column from patchset to patchset. For example, we are getting ready to update the comment$text field to display more information like dblinks and program names.
I personally don't like overloading the comment$text field like that, but sometimes when you need the information, that is the only choice except to wait for the next major release :)
As for the output of the audit log files, those can change between patchsets because of bugs that were found and some changes to support Audit Vault. My apologies out there for anyone that is reading the audit files written to the OS directly, I would recommend using the views.
    Hope that helps. Tammy
