Trackpad issues and scrolling?

When I am doing the two finger scrolling, I stop sometimes. I have 2 fingers on the trackpad and they are completely still. Even then, it will click on something. This happens also when I am scrolling, it will act like I have clicked. It didn't seem to do this before the recent inertia updates (I have this disabled.)

2011 13" MBP Trackpad issue

I have a month-old 13" MBP. I've noticed that the trackpad often has problems differentiating between one finger and two finger gestures. Specifically, often while attempting to scroll with two fingers, it simply moves the cursor out of position as with a typical one-finger gesture.
In playing around the with trackpad tonight, I discovered that while acting up, if I add a third finger, it senses a 'second' finger and scrolls. If I lift my fingers and put them back down, it almost always senses properly again.
FWIW, I also have a 15" unibody that I use for presentations several times a week (i like the bigger screen for presenter notes, previews, etc.), and have been a mac laptop user for 15+ years, starting with my Powerbook Duo around '95, so I have an idea of the feel of the trackpad. The settings on both the 13" and the 15" are identical, so it's not a settings problem.
So I guess my question is:
Is this most likely a hardware, software or firmware issue, and is there anything that can be reset that might help the issue? It's intermittent, not constant, but probably happens at least once every 2-3 minutes while surfing.

Well I've trying to figure out some other trends with this trackpad issue and have discovered this: If my fingers are within 1/4 -3/8" of one another while two-finger scrolling, it works fine. If they are more than 1/2" apart while attempting the same, it only picks up one of the points of contact and interprets the gesture as simply moving the cursor. My 15" MBP doesn't react that way at all.
Any ideas?

Late 2012 Mini and Trackpad Issue

I recently replaced my Mac Pro (1,1) with a mini. The boot drive is an SSD and I have four external drives (3TB each) using USB 3 (for 3 of them, one through a USB 3 hub) and Firewire for one (the time machine drive). It's working great. However...the Apple Trackpad, every now and then, seems to skip around...rather than a fluid movement, it gets a bitter jittery. If I turn the trackpad off and back on again, it's fine for awhile Any thoughts?

Have the trackpad here with a 2011 mini -- no issues as you describe. You might also consider removing the trackpad from Bluetooth preferences, cycle power on the trackpad, and add it back to Bluetooth preferences. I have also found that the lower the battery level on BT devices, the less responsive they become. I also use the Apple BT mouse.

When is 10.6.3 coming and will it fix the trackpad issues????

I have been researching this issue since I purchased my new unibody in Jan 2010. Needless to say, I have not found a permanent solution for any of these trackpad related issues.
Before the unibody I had the MBP aluminum for 2 years and never had a single trackpad issue. These issues are definitely intermittent/sporadic and I cannot seem to narrow the trackpad problems down to one particular application.
Here are the issues I've been encountering and I would certainly like to see Apple respond to our requests ASAP.
-Trackpad clicks don't always register.
-3 & 4 finger gestures stop working at random. **temporary fix offered by majicman here**

-trackpad movement/scrolling sporadicly becomes unresponsive. Dead zones on the trackpad.
-cursor jumps (rarity for me, but from what I've read it's common for other users.)

Don't know about you guys, but I didn't spend $2600 on a notebook computer to encounter these annoyances...I could have bought (3) PC notebooks for the cost of this MBP Unibody and I expect that Apple will hold up their end of the bargain by making this a superior product!
Please show us some support Apple and fix these bugs!!

Here's my voodoo fixes:
~Delete contents of ~/Library/Preferences (I've accumulated a lot of junk there)
~Delete contents of ~/Library/Caches and contents of /Library/Caches
~Reinstall 10.6.3 v1.1 Combo Updater
~Repair permissions
~Reset PRAM/SMC
~Put computer to sleep and then wake it up
Don't insert any external USB mice etc in the meantime.
See if it works.

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet. Are you still using the same wireless router. The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace. For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio. I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.

My iMac mouse and trackpad will not scroll or swipe. as far as I can tell, the settings are correct.

I've had this Imac for a year and have had no problems until the mouse and trackpad both stopped scrolling a few weeks ago. I have a 2011 iMac 27" i7 and the bluetooth connected trackpad, keyboard, and mouse all go haywire after awhile. This just began today and cannot make the issue go away. Nothing was downloaded, no software updates, etc. please help!

Oops, sorry, using my iPad for this. My iMac's Bluetooth-connected devices are going haywire after awhile of use. All three things--the trackpad, keyboard, and mouse--act up, especially the trackpad, by being overly sensitive and often just clicking and moving on its own. I've restarted the computer, I've swabbed batteries out of the devices, and nothing has worked so far in solving this issue. I downloaded Lion when it came out and had the update last week (I think), but today is the first day to experience this issue and nothing was downloaded today. I've been sending out a flurry of emails, but nothing else to hint at why this problem happened. Any ideas??

Humm, thank you. I have my iPhone and iPad on the wireless network, and yeah--using the rechargable batteries. I'll try normal batteries and re-join the phone and get back to you. May take a day or so because the semester starts today. Thank you again.

Selecting more than one photo and scrolling issues

After selscting a photo then holding my shift key and scrolling down to select more photos, my browser window bounces back to my first selected photo before I can select the group I have scrolled down to. Any ideas??

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are trying to select all of the photos between the first selected photo and the next selected photo, right?
If you select just two photos (Command key depressed) and start to drag do you get a red circle with the number of photos you've selected come up? If not then the problem may be that you don't have the Helvetica font installed. If so launch Font Book and check it out. You may have to get it off your system install disks (Pacifist) and install it manually.

Issue with div "s4-workspace" and scroll bar

I have a standard publishing site, I just added an horizontal menu (the publishing site doesn't have it) but I'm experiencing a strange behavior:
With my custom menu the div "s4-workspace" shifts down by the height of the menu and I cannot see the end part of the page content.
I noticed this because I was looking at the workspace right scroll bar and I could not see the end.
I copied my horizontal menu from the Team Site, where the menu is scrolling inside the workspace, but I want to keep it fix under the ribbon.
I guess that it's a div displacement problem, but I could not find anything to fix it. I opened the nigthandday.css and the core4.css looking for some CSS style property, but nothing...

If you look at the page, you will notice that the whole page doesn't scroll by default. Only the S4-workspace and below scrolls. This is done through the use of a Javascript. Your problem is that you have inserted something between the
div's at the top of the page and the S4-workspace div. The javascript isn't aware of that and so it's not factoring in that height when it calculates how to scroll the page. So you can never reach the bottom.
To fix it you need to either remove the factors that cause the partial page scrolling and scroll the whole page or insert your menu into either the top of the s4-workspace div or one of the other existing div's at the top of the page. Take a look at

Issues with DataGrid and scrolling

Hello, I am having a problem with using the DataGrid class
and scrolling. In my DataGrid, there is a certain column whose
renderer factory class includes a custom built dynamically resizing
text area. As more text is entered in this dynamic text area, it
resizes vertically to accomidate the new text. I am using this
component in a custom renderer. As the custom text area resizes, so
does the renderer itself, and the row in which the renderer is a
parent shrinks or grows accordingly. My problem is that when I
scroll through a datagrid whose rows are of differing heights, the
scroll bar thumb changes size depending on portion of the data grid
I'm showing. Not only does this look bad, but it also prevents my
data grid from working as intended. If I could get some feedback on
a way to fix this problem. I would appreciate it. TIA.

There isn't any way to "fix" this - the DataGrid is working
as intended. Scrolling in the list components is item-based, not
pixel based, so the scrollbar adjusts according to what is visible
vs what is available. Since itemRenderers are not generated for
invisible rows there is no way to calculate what size they will be.
An alternative is to place the DataGrid into a Canvas and
then set the DataGrid's rowCount to equal the number of records in
its dataProvider. This will expose all of the rows and created
itemRenderers for every row. Because the DataGrid is in a
container, the container will then get a vertical scrollbar.
The problem with this is that the DataGrid's header will
scroll out of view and if you have a lot of records, could take
some time to render. If you like this approach, you can make a
second DataGrid which sits above the first, has no records, just a
header while the DataGrid inside of the Canvas has no
header.
