Trailing spaces problem with OracleDataAdapter

Hi,
I have a char(60) column in the database which i cant change to nvarchar. I am using a ref cursor with the ODP.NET dataadapter to populate the dataset. The dataset has defined this column as a string. When I fill the dataset, the data for this column contains trailing spaces (to make it 60 characters).
Situation: Stored Procedure returns a ref cursor that is used to fill the dataset using a dataadapter
Problem: Trailing spaces in all char columns
Attempts:
1) Returning Trim(column_name) from the SP. This time the dataset column gets null values. Doesn't the trim work with the dataadapter.
2) Tried returning length(trim(column_name)) from the SP. The dataset got all 0 values
3) Tried returning length(column_name) from the SP. Returns 60 because the column is char(60)
Any idea what is going on? Is this a bug? Is there a solution ?
Thanks
Nishith

Got it !!! :D
My query in the SP was SELECT TRIM(column_name) ... so it was trying to populate it into the "TRIM(column_name)" column of the dataset which is not there ... no have changed it to SELECT TRIM(column_name) as column_name ... works :)
But is there an easier way ?

  • Trailing spaces problem during file content conversion

    I have developed a proxy to file scenario.And am using file content conversion for creating the file. The file is to be a fixed length file.
    File Structure
    <Header>
    <Item>
    <Item Trailer>
    <File Trailer>
    Each tab in the file has the last character mapped to spaces.
    Eg: Header00000001  2006011700000000020060<blank   space>
    Item00000001        2006011700000000020060<blank   space>
    The problem is that during file content conversion. XI does not preserve trailing spaces at the end of the line i.e.if a particular line in the file ends with space. It terminates the line at the last non-space character (in this case at 060).
    However we are required to maintain these trailing spaces at the end of each line.
    I have tried preserve white space in data type that does not work.
    I know that xslt mapping may solve the problem but I am looking for a workaround with my current graphical mapping.
    Looking for suggestions !!
    Thanks,
    Rashida

    Hi,
    I have the problem quite opposite to this where we are getting the trailing spaces at end of each record which should not come.
    File structure is
    <Record>
    - <Data>
      <Content>11/09/2007@210@ZACSL007@GBB-56436@PS01@29@1044@19@646@0</Content>
      </Data>
      </Record>
    ............. n records
    <Header>
      <File_Name>UK01</File_Name>
      </Header>
    Record structure in communication channel used is
    Header, Data
    Data.fieldFixedLengths     1024
    Data.addHeaderLine     0
    Header.addHeaderLine     0
    Header.fieldFixedLengths     0
    Header.fixedLengthTooShortHandling     Cut
    Data.fixedLengthTooShortHandling     Cut
    Header.endSeparator     '0'
    Actually if the length of record is less than 1024, rest of the length is being filled with spaces which should not occur.
    Many advanced thanks.

  • Space problems with the SAP Database MS SQL 2000

    Hi,
    Actually, I have a size problem with the database, I have MS SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack4 on a Windows 2003 Server environment that is my DataBase Server of my ERP ECC 6.0. On the other hand I have a storage where I have 229 Gb of free space used only for the database files of the SAP data and the SAP log file.
    But when I check the DB space allocation on trx. DB02 I saw this:
    3 Database files and 1 transaction log:
    The 3 database files are: PRDDATA1 (size 15,313 MB used 15016 MB) , PRDDATA2 (size 14106 MB used 13984 MB), PRDDATA3 (size 14472 MB used 14352 MB) and the log file is PRDLOG1 ( size 1000 MB) all of them with no limit option and growth by 10%.
    So I went to the SQL Enterprise Manager and I saw that my Database PRD properties and I got this information:
    My database size is 44892.48 Mb size with only 1330.36 Mb of free space and that is alarming.
    So the question here is how ,if I have a storage where the sap data is storing with 229 Gb of free space, can I make the database files grow up in order to use all the available space of my storage.
    Can you help me please because it is critical being my productive system?

    I'm creating a Swing program, with an InternalFrame-type interface. One of the frames contains a .gif file background and then primitive G2D objects are drawn on top of it.

  • DB disk space problem with upgradation from oim 9.1 to oim 11.1.1.5

    Hi All,
    Aim: we have to upgrade oim9.1 to oim 11g, with new data cente ( we are doing this in DEV env)
    constraint: DB diskSpace is 30 GB
    As part of upgradation, we have to import the existing oim 9.1 Db to new DB, Here we faced the size problem, our Dev DB data size is 100GB (which is going to import into new DB), but new DB disk space is 30GB only.
    Which tables, do we need to truncate, so that It should not effect upgradtion( we should not miss, oim objects other than User/log inforamtion)?
    Do OIm11g(11.1.1.5.0) has any constraints over DB size with 30 GB?
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks.

    The UPA tables are audit related. I doubt you could truncate any of the others and not affect something else.

    Hello joy,
    So, still looking for solution. I suggest you a sloution and it works well only if as you mentioned (in your previous post) that file causing error is temp file. So, get rid of this better you create new temporary table space and drop old one and then delete the old files manually.
    But this will work only for Temp Tablespace not for normal tablespaces and datafiles. Prepare new temporary tablespace at different location from the previous one, try to make it on different disk beacuse it may be due to corruption of physical medium too.
    Try this. If it works... you are through... otherwise i have no other options...
    Please update.....

  • New Line Space problem with iWeb 3.03

    I've just updated to iWeb 3.03.
    Now I find that for all new text on my site, the line space is crunched. It looks as normal in iWeb, but then the spacing closes up, on Safari or Firefox. This happens independently of how I space the lines, whether using Line multiples, or as point sizes, whatever. The problem has only occurred since I updated.
    Example - the bottom half of this page. I've attempted to update it several times, retyped, reformatted, I have huge line spacing on the iWeb page, but it's still crunched, online.
    http://www.trynka.net/trynka.net/Bowie.html

    Oh, and I should have mentioned, the site is hosted on a Linux server. The reason I think it's an update issue rather than a server issue is that every existing page, with the earlier version, works fine.
    I am guessing I could reinstall the older version of iWeb, but it seems a clunky workround, that's if the older version will open the newer files.

  • Image Space Problems with Dreamweaver 8

    I am having a bad issue with Dreamweaver 8 on Mac OS 10.4.8.
    It concerns images that have an assigned horizontal spacer of say,
    4 pixels. The images have a CSS class assigned to them that adds a
    5 pixel black border. In previous Dreamweaver versions, and within
    the Mac Browsers (Safari, Netscape, etc.), the black (CSS class)
    border is correctly along all four edges of the image. However,
    when viewed in Dreamweaver 8, the black border is now 5 pixels away
    from the image's verticle edges.

    I have tried this in DW8 on the Mac, and I'm not able to
    reproduce it.
    There must be some horizontal padding inheriting into that
    <img> to get what
    you are seeing.

  • HD space problem in iMovie projects

    I'm having hd space problems with one of almost two identical iMovie projects. I'm looking for a way to reduce size (or free up space with in the overly large project.)
    Both projects were imported same...firewire from camera.
    Both are about same length...approximately 1.25 hours.
    Both have approximately same number of clips and are at the same stage in the process...some minor editing...no titles or transitions in either.
    However, one project is 14gb in size, the other is 54gb. This is obviously causing space issues with my 160gb hd. (I rarely have a project over 25gb...even with lengthier projects with titles and transitions,)
    When I view trash info for larger project in iMovie, it shows 12gb, but when I delete, space is not cleared from hd. Project size remains at 54gb.
    The only difference in projects...with larger project I copied some files from a third iMovie project that I've since deleted.
    Any thoughts on how I go free up space or reduce file size?
    I've restarted computer, deleted iMovie pref file, ran disc utility.
    I'm running latest version of Tiger (10.4.11) on eMac. iMovieHD version is 6.0.3

    I suspect that when you copied those files from the third iMovie project you brought over portions of the clips that had been edited out. For example, if you have a 20 minute clip in iMovie that you trim down to 5 minutes, the project still retains the entire 20 minutes, even though you are using only 5 minutes of it in the project. This is true even if you empty the trash. As long as any part of the clip remains in the project, the entire clip remains in storage. This is due to iMovie's nondestructive editing feature. You never lose any part of a clip that you trim off. Some or all of the clips that you copied over from the old project may have been edited that way such that you thought, for example, that you were bringing over a 5 minute clip, but actually brought over 20 minutes of material. Thus your project size is larger than needed.
    One way to get rid of the space caused by the extra 15 minutes would be to export the clip to Full Quality quicktime movie, and then substitute the Quicktime movie clip for the original clip in your project. The quicktime movie will contain only the 5 minutes used in the project and not the extra 15 minutes that the original clip carried with it. This would limit some of your ability to re-edit the new Quicktime movie clip, because you will not be able to modify or eliminate any special effects or titles that that are contained in it. Likewise, the 15 minutes that you eliminated will be lost. So keep that in mind if and when you delete the old clips. Before you export the old clips to a Quicktime movie, you want to eliminate any unwanted editing that they may contain. If these old clips contain a lot of special effects that might account for their larger size as well.
    Keep a copy of the old edited clips until you are certain that your new project is exactly the way you want it.
    Hope this helps. If your problem is not the above, hopefully others will be able to offer some helpful comments.

    when the above xml file is read and populated into ITAB, for element vendorname-2 which has a space in first position , that space is ignored.
    This is being used for a FB01 posting and vendor is paid based on Name1+Name2 printed on cheque and due to the space ignoring problem, the vendor name is displayed wrongly thus causing problems.
    I appreciate if someone could guide me thru and help me in solving this problem.
    How to preserve the leading or trailing space.
    g_selementvalue = g_childnode->get_value( ).
    when i check g_selementvalue, space is ignored.
    i will be greateful if someone could guide me through.

    mean ? I think it means, that the Shuttle somehow sets itself to null ?! but i dont understand why...
    There is no computation or anything that deletes the shuttle, the page is quite small, there is not much more than the shuttle and the validations and computations to give default value and transforming the shuttle items into a collection to continue working with the IDs.
    I dont check whats the problem

  • Prepared Statement 8.1.7 problem with spaces

    I have a char field that is char(10). It has characters like '39' stored in it. That is of course space filled.
    When I try to use that field in a select statement where clause in a prepared statement it does not return any rows.
    However, if I define the column as char(2) it works. If I define the column as varchar2(10) and put '39' in it (2 length) it works.
    What is the problem anyone? I am using Java 1.3.1, and the Oracle JDBC thin client newest .jar file (12) for Oracle8.i
    I have seen others have this problem but no solutions?

    Update to problem
    I have the latest (classes12.zip) JDBC drivers from Oracle.
    We are running Oracle 8.1.6 and converting to Oracle 8.1.7.
    This works the same with both.
    Example, I have a column (char(10)) with trailing spaces. i.e. '39 '.
    When I perform a Prepared Statement with that column in the where clause, it returns no result rows.
    When I perform a standard statement with that column in the where clause, it returns rows.
    When I define a column char(2) and use it in the where clause it works fine.
    When I define a column varchar2(10) and load it with data like '39', it works fine.
    When I define a column varchar2(10 and load it with data like '39 ', it does not work.
    When I execute this same Prepared Statement through the jdbc:odbc bridge it works fine.
    I cannot change the definition of the columns as they are foreign key data. What is the problem here? Any help is appreciated.
    If you need further information please feel free to contact me.

  • How to find string with trailing space

    Hi,
    I need to search a word instead of string from another string.
    I tried below code and expected that FIND will not search 'weeds' but it seems FIND ignores trailing spaces of string zstr and thus finds word 'weeds'.
    DATA: zstr type string value 'we ',
              lv_string type string value 'These are weeds',
              result_tab TYPE match_result_tab.
    FIND FIRST OCCURRENCE OF regex zstr IN lv_string
                          IGNORING CASE
                          RESULTS result_tab.
    Please consider that zstr is runtime variable with no fixed length.
    If anybody has the solution, reply back fast !

  • Strange Problem With Extra Spaces

    Hello,
    My development staff is experiencing a very strange problem with our JSP pages which display the values from a JDBC result set. We have two environments here: development and production. We have been creating pages in development which work out fine in our development environment. But when we move the page into production, each value which results from the ResultSet getString() method is having multiple blank spaces appended to the end of the value. So, for example, a 5 digit zip code field is really showing up with a length of 8 or 9 because there are extra spaces added to the end of the value.
    We are able to work around this problem by using the trim() method, but this is getting quite tedious to do to every single page in the site. It is very annoying because the problem does not exist in the development environment.
    So you figure there must be a difference in our development and production environments. But there really isn't. Here is the details for both environments:
    OS: Windows NT 4.0
    Web Server: Apache with Tomcat setup as a plugin
    Database: Sybase ASA 6.0.3
    JDK: 1.3
    Apache and Tomcat were installed from the same download on both servers. Sybase was installed from the same CD on both servers - and the JDBC Driver (SybDriver) was copied from one server to the next.
    Sorry for the long explanation - but does anyone have any idea what could be occurring? Why are the extra spaces being appended to the production pages and not the development pages?
    As always, thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    -- Chris

    Hello Paul,
    Thank you for taking the time to analyze this case.
    The data in the system comes from two different sources. The first source is a nightly feed from a legacy system. The second source is user input via the JSP application. The records that were inserted from the nightly feed have an accurate length() value (meaning there is no untrimmed spaces trailing along.) But the values coming in from the application have extra spaces appended to them. In the development environment, however, both sources provide properly trimmed data.
    If I enter an 8 character last name into the web form in the production app, the value which ends up in the database upon submission will have 2 to 3 extra spaces. I know that this sounds strange - and believe me, it is boggling everyone here. I suspect this problem has to do with the Tomcat installation - even though it was installed identically in each server.
    I think we are just going to have live with using the trim() for every database submission. As always, thank you for the help, and all ideas are always welcome.

  • Problems with spaces in directory or file names and Word.exe

    Hi
    I'm trying to open a file with Word from my java aplication, and I have a problem with some file/directory names.
    I have this
    String cmd = "c:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office10\\WINWORD.EXE" + " " + path;
    try {
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    } catch (Exception errorea){ }
    Here is what happens:
    if path is something like this: "c:\people\info.doc" , there's no problem, Word opens the document, but if path contains blank spaces somewhere, it doesn't work. For example:
    path = "c:\Documents and Settings\info.doc"
    path = "c:\Hi everybody\info.doc"
    path = "c:\tests\test results.doc"
    with the above examples it doesn't work :( Word tries to open "c:\Documents", "c:\Hi" or "c:\tests\test".
    Can anyone help? thanx a lot ! : )

    No, the exec method runs the Word.weird, it shouldn't, and it wouldn't on my system going by the test I just made, but I'm running linux & not windows, maybe the command line parsing is different for some reason.
    The problem is that
    Word starts and then Word says that it can't open the
    file because the name or the path to the file is not
    valid.You still should use the overload that takes a String array.

    Hint: use the variant Runtime.exec(String[] args).
    Create a command array, with each token in a separate argument. The entire filename with spaces goes into one argument.
