Transaction Database Configuration option

Hi:
When I tried to install Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 with Transaction Database Configuration option, the assistant process got me the following error message ...
Invalid entry size (expected 152702976 but got 152703068 bytes) ....
It's appear that this happened when assistant is trying to clone the EXAMPLE01.DBF datafile ...
Does any body know any clue or hint to fix it ??
Thanks and Regards

prob. a known bug.
Check on metalink or set up a GP database and retune it.

  • Questions on OBIEE reporting against transactional Database

    Hello guys
    I have a situation where I have to bring in 5 tables from transactional database to do reporting on.. I looked at the tables, there are not typically dimension or fact tables. Each table contains information very specifically, at the same time all tables have numeric values that needed to be aggregated at the lowest level of that table..
    I can join all these 5 tables together knowing the key columns. However, this is basically joining 5 tables with fact measures... Since this is transactional database which we don't own, so I can't create views nor changing the table structures..
    I wonder how would I be able to configure such model in OBIEE?
    Any thoughts?

    Thank you for the reply..
    The specific situation I have here is:
    I have 4 tables that I am polling directly from the4 store's cash register (Oh yea, real real time), they are customer, receipt line, receipt header, inventory,
    The physical join is: they are customer-----> receipt line<-----receipt header <------------inventory...
    In the BMM layer, each of these 4 tables have columns that should be measures, such as customer.customer credit limit, receipt line. quantity, receipt header. reciept tendered, inventory.quantity on hand... They are more measure columns from each table, but I am just listing one from each..
    In this case if i set the aggregation rule on each column, then the BMM model won't a star schema anymore because every table can be fact..
    I thought about adding all the measure columns into 1 logical fact table, which then the logical fact will have 4 LTS: customer, Re Line, Re Header, Inv.. This will be fine if I am only dealing with 1 store... However, in reality there will be 50 stores with the same exact tables/structures but on different servesr. Therefore, the logical fact will end up with 4*50 = 200 LTS each has fragmentation defined "store number = NYC or something else"..
    Just wondering if combining all the measures in one logical table is the only way to model this design or not? What would be the best thing to do if in this situation I have to report against multiple data source of the same tables in 1 subject area?
    Please let me know your thoughts..
    Thank you

    Just don't install the sample schemas. See the installation guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10831/installation.htm
    Using the Database Configuration Assistant
    When you install Oracle Database with the Oracle Universal Installer, the sample schemas are installed by default if you select the Basic Installation option. Selecting the sample schemas option installs all five schemas (HR, OE, PM, IX, and SH) in the database. If you choose not to install the sample schemas at that time, you can add them later by following the instructions in section "Manually Installing Sample Schemas".
    Choose a custom install and don't install the sample schemas.
    All other schems/tables installed are REQUIRED by Oracle

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
    In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
    TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
    and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
    Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
    database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
    "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
    me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
    Database Cache" option for our application.
    Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
    data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
    I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
    "In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
    installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
    Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
    access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
    #CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
    "For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
    processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
    In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
    for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
    We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
    count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
    Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
    Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
    Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
    Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
    Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
    "In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    ==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
    installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
    Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
    access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    ==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards

  • [Solved] if(Transaction specified for a non-transactional database) then

    I am getting started with BDBXML 2.4.14 transactions and XQuery update functionality and I am having some difficulty with 'node insert ...' and transactions failing with 'Transaction specified for a non-transactional database'
    Thanks for helping out.
    Setup:
    I have coded up a singleton manager for the XmlManger with a ThreadLocal holding the transaction and a query method to execute XQueries. The setup goes like this:
    environmentConfig = new EnvironmentConfig();
    environmentConfig.setRunRecovery(true);               environmentConfig.setTransactional(true);               environmentConfig.setAllowCreate(true);               environmentConfig.setRunRecovery(true);               environmentConfig.setInitializeCache(true);                environmentConfig.setTxnMaxActive(0);               environmentConfig.setInitializeLocking(true);               environmentConfig.setInitializeLogging(true);               environmentConfig.setErrorStream(System.err);
    environmentConfig.setLockDetectMode(LockDetectMode.MINWRITE);               environmentConfig.setJoinEnvironment(true);               environmentConfig.setThreaded(true);
    xmlManagerConfig = new XmlManagerConfig();               xmlManagerConfig.setAdoptEnvironment(true);               xmlManagerConfig.setAllowAutoOpen(true);               xmlManagerConfig.setAllowExternalAccess(true);
    xmlContainerConfig = new XmlContainerConfig();               xmlContainerConfig.setAllowValidation(false);               xmlContainerConfig.setIndexNodes(true);               xmlContainerConfig.setNodeContainer(true);
    // initialize
    instance.xmlManager = new XmlManager(instance.getEnvironment(),                    instance.getXmlManagerConfig());
    instance.xmlContainer = instance.xmlManager.openContainer(                              containerName, instance.getXmlContainerConfig());
    private ThreadLocal<XmlTransaction> transaction = new ThreadLocal<XmlTransaction>();
    public XmlTransaction getTransaction() throws Exception {
              if (transaction.get() == null) {
                   XmlTransaction t = xmlManager.createTransaction();
                   log.info("Transaction created, id: " + t.getTransaction().getId());
                   transaction.set(t);
              } else if (log.isDebugEnabled()) {
                   log.debug("Reusing transaction, id: "
                             + transaction.get().getTransaction().getId());
              return transaction.get();
         private XmlQueryContext createQueryContext(String docName) throws Exception {
              XmlQueryContext context = xmlManager.createQueryContext(
                        XmlQueryContext.LiveValues, XmlQueryContext.Lazy);
              List<NamespacePrefix> namespacePrefixs = documentPrefixes.get(docName);
              // declare ddi namespaces
              for (NamespacePrefix namespacePrefix : namespacePrefixs) {
                   context.setNamespace(namespacePrefix.getPrefix(), namespacePrefix
                             .getNamespace());
              return context;
         public XmlResults xQuery(String query) throws Exception {
              XmlQueryExpression xmlQueryExpression = null;
              XmlQueryContext xmlQueryContext = getQueryContext(docName);
              try {
                   xmlQueryExpression = xmlManager.prepare(getTransaction(), query,
                             xmlQueryContext);
                   log.info(query.toString());
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   if (xmlQueryContext != null) {
                        xmlQueryContext.delete();
                   throw new DDIFtpException("Error prepare query: " + query, e);
              XmlResults rs = null;
              try {
                   rs = xmlQueryExpression.execute(getTransaction(), xmlQueryContext);
              // catch deadlock and implement retry
              catch (Exception e) {
                   throw new DDIFtpException("Error on query execute of: " + query, e);
              } finally {
                   if (xmlQueryContext != null) {
                        xmlQueryContext.delete();
                   xmlQueryExpression.delete();
              return rs;
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Test version="0.1">
    <Project id="test-project" agency="dda">
    <File id="large-doc.xml" type="ddi"/>
    <File id="complex-doc.xml" type="ddi"/>
    </Project>
    <Project id="2nd-project" agency="test.org"/>
    </Test>
    Problem:
    All the queries are run through the xQuery method and I do delete the XmlResults afterwards. How do I get around the 'Transaction specified for a non-transactional database' what is the transactions doing? How do I get state information out of a transaction? What am I doing wrong here?
    1 First I insert a node:
    Transaction created, id: -2147483647
    Adding document: large-doc.xml to xml container
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    Working doc: ddieditor.xml
    Root element: Test
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    insert nodes <Project id="JUnitTest" agency="test.org"></Project> into doc("dbxml:/ddieditor.dbxml/ddieditor.xml")/Test
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    2 Then do a query:
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    doc("dbxml:/ddieditor.dbxml/ddieditor.xml")/Test/Project/@id
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    3 The same query again:
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    doc("dbxml:/ddieditor.dbxml/ddieditor.xml")/Test/Project/@id
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    4 Delete a node:
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    delete node for $x in doc("dbxml:/ddieditor.dbxml/ddieditor.xml")/Test/Project where $x/@id = '2nd-project' return $x
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    5 Then an error on query:
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647
    doc("dbxml:/ddieditor.dbxml/ddieditor.xml")/Test/Project/@id
    Reusing transaction, id: -2147483647

    Ok got it solved by increasing the locks lockers and mutex's I allso increased the the log buffer size:
    environmentConfig = new EnvironmentConfig();
                   // general environment
                   environmentConfig.setAllowCreate(true);
                   environmentConfig.setRunRecovery(true); // light recovery on startup
                   //environmentConfig.setRunFatalRecovery(true); // heavy recovery on startup
                   environmentConfig.setJoinEnvironment(true); // reuse of environment: ok
                   environmentConfig.setThreaded(true);
                   // log subsystem
                   environmentConfig.setInitializeLogging(true);
                   environmentConfig.setLogAutoRemove(true);
                   environmentConfig.setLogBufferSize(128 * 1024); // default 32KB
                   environmentConfig.setInitializeCache(true); // shared memory region
                   environmentConfig.setCacheSize(2500 * 1024 * 1024); // 250MB cache
                   // transaction
                   environmentConfig.setTransactional(true);
                   environmentConfig.setTxnMaxActive(0); // live forever, no timeout
                   // locking subsystem
                   environmentConfig.setInitializeLocking(true);
    environmentConfig.setMutexIncrement(22);
    environmentConfig.setMaxMutexes(200000);
    environmentConfig.setMaxLockers(200000);
    environmentConfig.setMaxLockObjects(200000); // default 1000
    environmentConfig.setMaxLocks(200000);
    // deadlock detection
                   environmentConfig.setLockDetectMode(LockDetectMode.MINWRITE);
    In the docs by Oracle it is limited information given regarding the impact of these settings and their options. Can you guys point in a direction where I can find some written answers or it hands on?

  • Problem using template in database configuration assistant Oracle 10g

    Hi,
    I created a database using the database configuration assistant for Oracle 10g on a Windows Server 2003 box. The database I created worked perfectly, and I had saved it as a template so I could save some time when creating similar databases (which I have to do on occasion)
    When I try to use the template though, I get an error (at about 4% through the database creation) saying:
    ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
    ORA-09314: sltln: error translating logical name
    I'm creating this new database on the same server as the one I created my previous database on and NOTHING has changed on it, I did this just minutes apart and can duplicate it at will (just try and use a template)
    Heres the template file contents (KM1.dbt)
    <DatabaseTemplate name="KM1" description="" version="10.1.0.2.0">

  • How to hide Database Logon option when scheduling Crystal Report in BOE?

    Hi All,
    For security reason, we are try to hide the Database Logon option in Crystal Report Schedule page in InfoView.
    There is option in CMC which we can configure the default Database logon option so that users do not have to enter the logon everytime they view or schedule the report.  However, we are looking to hide this option completely.
    Does anyone know if there is a security setting which can hide the option from specific users?
    Thanks,
    Bobby

    Hi Bobby,
    As Jorge informed that there is no method available within CMC to hide database logon option when scheduling or viewing a Crystal Report in the Info view. This is very much true.
    But as you also mentioned that you don't want your users to enter the database logon credentials evertime they view or schedule a crystal report, there is one setting in CMC which we can do to avoid prompt for database logon credentials.
    CMC - Home - Go to that specific crystal report - Click Process tab - Click the sub-tab 'Database' and at the bottom of the page there is an option "Use same database logon as when report is run". Check this option after providing the database credentials and click UPDATE.
    Now whenever users try to view or schedule this specifc crystal report they won't be prompted for the database logon credentials.
    Regards,
    Venkat

  • Security problem in oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant

    Inside the tool Oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant there is an option by which you can make a "copy" of your Database. This "copy" is called a template and you don4t need any password or aunthentication to do it, you just need the tool to be installed in your server. Once you have a template, you can bring it anywhere and recreate the original database (including data). Again, you don't need any password or aunthentication to do it, further more, in the last step of this process you can change the password of any user (inluding SYS, SYSTEM or another DBA user). The thing about this is that anyone with access to the computer where the database is can make a template of it, take this template to another computer and recreate my database having FULL access to it (structure, data, code ...). And everything without needing any password!!!. I really thing that it is a big problem. Is there any way of preventing this operation?. How can I safely protect my database?. I thought about unistalling the product, but someone can re-install it and everything would be the same. Can someone give me an answer?
    Thanks for everything.
    Pablo Cuenca

    You must protect your database from casual browsing at the OS level. This is not a security hole, per se, since this is a known issue with any and all software. Database Configuration Assistant is not needed for this since one may copy the database without it.

  • Oracle 11g Database Configuration Assistant Hangs At 45% During 1st Install

    Platform: Windows Vista 64 Bit Version
    Downloaded: Oracle 11g Database 64 Bit
    Service Pack 1
    Greetings to all my Oracle Seniors. I have been attempting in vain to install the Oracle 11g database software package fully. I was able to complete the initial installation and made it to the second recommended action which was the Database Configuration Assistant operation. After 3 attempts, the progress bar stalled at 45%. I tried to look at the log file cfgtoologs (cloneDBCreation, and CloneRmanRestore), but it said that I didn't have permission. My pre-check cleared OK on everything. So, please direct me as to how to correct this issue.
    Thanks

    System Integrator

    Well, that is not much of an option right now. I discovered that I have to reinstall the XP Pro OS after attempting the 11g installation 4 times and the install always stalled at 69% during the initial installation. I did have Windows Service Pack 3 installed on the system. I down graded and added 1 G of additional memory and checked the pre-check with no problem. But, the install continued to stall at 69%. So, and, yet, here we are.
    Now in regards to the metalink notes, I am new to the forum, so I don't know my way around quite yet. Isn't the metalink the paid suppport option? If so, I don't have that access.

  • 11g fails in Database Configuration Assistant with ORA-01919

    I'm installing 11g on a 32-bit CentOS (redhat) box, and the Database Configuration Assistant is failing with

    I can in fact read, so I do know what's causing this particular error (and all the cascading errors if I hit the "ignore" button) but I don't know what I missed earlier in the installation process that should have created this role.
    The Database Configuration Assistant is at 46% completion when it throws up this error.
    Looking in the logs under /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/cfgtoollogs/dbca/orcl/mkplug_v3_orcl.log

  • Database Configuration problem

    I am brand new to Crystal (1 week) so bear with me please.
    I have created a crystal report from an access database. Although this access database doesn't have any security itself one of its tables is linked to a SQL server through ODBC. When i create a report in Crystal using the Access database it works great. When i publish this report to the server it wants some type of login information.
    Under Database configuration (CMC) for the report i seem to have two options.
    1)Use original database logon information from the report.
        Server = Location of my access database
        Database = ""
        User: ?
        PW:?
    or
    2) Use custom database logon information specified here.
         Select a database driver
        Server: ? Is this the SQL server or the server where my access database is contained?
         Database: ? same question
         User: ? Is this the sql user?
    I have tried both can't get it to work. What login information does it want? Does it want the sql login information? What am i missing? Any help would be great. I know this is a lot of questinons but i am stumped.
    thanks

    Hi Jesse,
    Because your .mdb file doesn't require a password, I would check if Page server can access to .mdb file first. When viewed from Enterprise, Page Server needs to be able to access to .mdb file. Where is .mdb file located? If it is on the network share, Page Server service needs to run under the user account which has access to the share. By default it is running under System Account.
    Test the report in Crystal Reports on the server(not from a client machine). If you can refresh it successfully, check what user account is logged on the server, then use the user account for Page serer service. Restart Page Server and test the report from Enterprise.

  • Database Configuration Asssistant error while installation Oracle 10g r2

    I'm try install Oracle 10g Release2 on Windos XP PRO SP2 system.
    I'm select in installation all options by default.
    Oracle software is install successfully. Then automatically run Database Configuration Assistant, that must be install example instance.
    But it show error window: "ORA-00959: ?????? 'EXAMPLE' ?? ??????????".

    Frist of all the actual error message in English would be,
    ORA-00959: tablespace <strings> does not exist
    Cause: A statement specified the name of a tablespace that does not exist.
    Action: Enter the name of an existing tablespace. For a list of tablespace names, query the data dictionary.
    In your case that will be tablespace EXAMPLE.
    How did you get this error, is this some tablespace you are trying to create?

  • Delete a specified data sorce in the database configuration

    Hi @all,
    I created  and published successfulyl a Crystal Report on a Business Objects D-System! In the database configuration of the these crystal report in the CMC, we use the option "Prompt the user for database logon".
    But it appears two data sources in the left box, where I can just modify some options, when I click on it.
    The first data source is an IP-adress of the DEV-System, which is obviously the meta-information of the Crystal Report.
    The second datasource is the AS, which I set in BW under the TC /crystal/rptadmin "Set BW source parameters".
    How can I delete the first data source with IP-adress?
    When I transport the Crystal Reports to the  Business Objects P-System, these IP-adress is still set as in the D-System and is not translated! How can I solve this problem?
    Best regards,
    Dirk

    Hi Ingo,
    I solve it by myself.
    The problem was the use of an function module. If I save the Crystal Report for the P-System, it runs and the IP-adress will be translate.
    Best regards,
    Dirk

    Are you going to use DBWizard ? Something is wrong then, your db name is in upper case which is not supported by the Wizard (point 8.2 of my article you linked).
    >
    Nicolas, your article mentions that the name is supposed to be in upper case, which mine is. And it seems like you also used an upper case name in the end: O2H91WZD. So now I'm a bit confused as to what is actually supported. I believe it's supposed to be upper case, there was no error message about the uppercase name.
    >
    Did you set the env. variables ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE properly ? Which user are you connected with ? Did you updated the tnsnames.ora ?
    Could you also post the content of the file $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initFC91DB.ora ?
    >
    ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE are correct, that I'm sure of. And, if they weren't I wouldn't be able to connect to my test SEED database. As far as ORACLE_SID goes, I did change it accordingly depending on wether I was connecting to FC91DB and SEED.
    >
    PS : what is SEED when you create database FC91DB ? What ORACLE_SID value did you set up front ?
    >
    SEED is just a test database I created in the very beginning when setting up my Application and Database server environment - just to test connectivity on both sides. It has no use other then that. When I created FC91DB I simply added an entry in my tnsnames.ora and created a init.ora file, then set ORACLE_SID accoringly.
    I can post back my tnsnames and init files once I get back to the server, thank you for input so far.
