Transaction in DB2
I am using properties file to get all queries to my jsp pages in xMII.
I am using Transaction location to access the transaction in that.
But it is showing error in console that Transaction not found.
But it is working fine in Oracle.
Please help me to find a solution.
Thanks in advance,
Vivek Kumar

Hi All,
Can some one recommend a reliable jdbc thin driver which supports distributed
transactions for DB2 on windows and solaris.
What is the reliability of the db2jcc driver (Universal driver) which comes with
the DB2 (8.1) installation.
Also want to know the same(driver) for the informix on windows.Hi,
just wondering, what are anyones thoughts on the best
example driver to be working from - hme, le, ae, etc ?
I have started with psli, 'cause i didn't have the
source to the others at the time, but would like to
know anyones thoughts on which are 'best'.
Thanks in advance,
S.If you want an example to implement your own ethernet driver based on the GLD, then
I recommend looking at my drivers (particularly afe) located at
http://garrett.damore.org/software/ethernet/
The other sample drivers are "monolithic" drivers, which can be good for understanding the
DLPI and writing generic STREAMs devices, but I wouldn't write a monolithic NIC driver
without some compelling reason. (There is a roughly 2:1 code size difference between
monolithic drivers and GLD drivers.)

In Oracle, how do you find out if there are any in doubt transactions
In DB2, its

Determine if writing to a local or remote trail
I have recently been tasked with taking over the GG implementation at my company and am hoping there is a simple answer for my question.
I am concerned we are not following practice and writing directly to a remote trail file but I am not sure how to prove this.
What is the "give away" or how can you tell if you are writing to a remote file directly or local trail file?
This is on an 11.2.0.3 Oracle database. The network call is due to the fact that you are using a remote trail versus local trai for the Extract. The parameters RMTHOST and RMTTRAIL are telling the Extract to connect to that host (even though it's local) over the port specfied by MGRPORT. This in turn causes the Manager to take the call over the port and then pass it off to a process called a Server Collector. If you just used the parameter EXTTRAIL in the Extract and created the trail as an EXTTRAIL rather than a RMTTRAIL, then there wouldn't be any network for the Extract to negotiate, it would just write the trail out locally on the server (even though it's also doing that with the remote trail since you've got the RMTHOST as the local server anyway).
A Pump (not the same as Oracle Datapump) would normally handle this if the target db server were different than the source.
And even if you do add DB4 to the mix on Box2, you can also add a Pump process that reads the same trail that the Replicat is reading and you wouldn't need another Extract.
I'll map it out as if you have this setup:
Box1 has DB1 and DB2
Box2 has DB4
Extract1 for DB1 on Box1 writes to Exttrail ./dirdat/et
Replicat2 for DB2 on Box1 reads from Exttrail ./dirdat/et and delivers transactions to DB2
Pump4 for Box2/DB4 on Box1 reads from Exttrail ./dirdat/et and writes to Box2 to Remote Trail ./dirdat/rt
Replicat4 for DB4 on Box2 reads from Exttrail ./dirdat/rt and delivers transactions to DB4
With a configuration like this, you can always add more Pumps on Box1 to read from Extract1's local Exttrail ./dirdat/et and send those to other target servers. In fact, Pump4 can also write to mulitple target servers at once, although it would be best to have 1 Pump write to 1 target server, again to reduce Abends due to the network. -
Can u send oss notes 192658...
hi friends, can any one post the OSS Notes 192658, for basic (parameters)setting for bw.
thanks in advanceSummary
Symptom
You want to set the Business Warehouse System (BW) basis parameters. The BW basis parameters must be set optimally for the BW system to work without errors and the system to perform efficiently. The recommendations for BW systems are not always the same as those for R/3 systems.
Other terms
Memory Management, EarlyWatch, GoingLive, Release 1.2B, Release 2.0A,
Release 2.0B, Release 2.1C, Release 3.0A, Release 3.0B, Release 3.1
Release 3.5
Reason and Prerequisites
The recommendations for BW systems are not always the same as those for R/3 systems. This note describes the differences between the parameter settings of a BW system and an R/3 system. Therefore, this note supplements Note 103747 for BW systems (Performance 4.0/4.5/4.6: Parameter recommendations). As with the recommendations in Note 103747, the recommendations here are intended as initial settings before you start using the system productively. After you start using the system productively, you must adjust individual parameters as required and adapt them to the actual requirements.
Number and type of work processes
This note does not contain any recommendations about the number and type of work processes. You can receive work processes tailored for your system from the recommended remote services. However, if you have not received any recommendations from the GoingLive services, you have to set up a minimum of six dialog work processes and three batch work processes.
This note is valid only for BW 1.2B, BW 2.0A, BW 2.0B,
BW 2.1C, BW 3.0A, BW 3.0B and BW 3.1, BW 3.5.
For NetWeaver 2004s or BI 7.0, see Note 1044441.
Solution
Support by Support Services *
To ensure that the system performs efficiently after you start using it productively, we recommend you use the support services, for example, the GoingLive check for BW systems or an EarlyWatch contract for BW systems. With a GoingLive check for BW systems, you should schedule two sessions for 4-6 weeks before you start using the system productively and one session 4-6 weeks after you have started using the system productively.
TO AVOID LONG WAITING TIMES FOR A SERVICE SESSION APPOINTMENT, BOOK IN SUFFICIENT TIME BEFORE YOU START USING THE SYSTEM PRODUCTIVELY. TO DO THIS, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL SUPPORT.
This note supplements Note 103747 (Performance 4.0/4.5/4.6: Parameter recommendations) for BW systems. It describes the different parameter settings of a BW system and an R/3 system.
Recommendations given in Note 103747 for R/3 systems that are different for BW systems:
1a. Export/import buffer
BW 1.2B:
This buffer is frequently used in BW systems so the export/import buffer must be set to at least 10 MB. If you work with large hierarchies, you have have to increase the size of this buffer considerably. You should be able to store at least 5,000 objects in the buffer.
rsdb/obj/buffersize 10000 or higher (10 MB)
rsdb/obj/max_objects 5000 or higher (entries)
rsdb/obj/large_object_size 10000 (10 MB)
BW 2.X: The buffer should be set to the size recommended for R/3 4.6 systems (see Note 103747).
BW 3.X: The buffer should be set to a larger size than the buffer for BW 2.X.
rsdb/obj/buffersize 40000 or higher (40 MB)
1b. Export/import buffer SHM
BW 3.X ONLY (OLAP cache):
Parameter name Value Description
rsdb/esm/buffersize_kb 40000 or higher Size of exp/imp SHM buffer (kB)
rsdb/esm/max_objects 10000 Maximum number of objects in buffer
2. Program buffer (abap/buffersize)
Depending on the size of the main memory, the program buffer should be between 200 and 400 MB. Unlike in R/3 Systems, a higher number of program buffer swaps is less important in BW Systems and is often unavoidable since the information stored in the program buffer is significantly less likely to be reused. While the response times of R/3 transactions is only around several hundred milliseconds, the response times of BW queries takes seconds. However, by tuning the program buffer, you can only improve the performance by milliseconds.
Therefore, if the available main memory is limited, you should increase the size of the extended memory. However, the program buffer should not be set lower than 200 MB. If the available main memory is sufficient, the program buffer in BW 2.X/3.X systems should be set to at least 300 MB.
3. Extended Memory
BW users require significantly more extended memory than R/3 users. The size of the extended memory is related to the available main memory but should not be lower than 512 MB.
4. Single Record buffer
BW 2.X & 3.X: The buffer should be set to the size recommended for R/3 4.6 systems (see Note 103747).
Limits for BW 2.X:
See Note 414220 for information about setting the parameter rtbb/max_tables, rtbb/buffer_length.
You must not exceed certain limits.
Limits for BW 3.X:
See Note 480710.
5. Recommendations for the 64-bit R/3 kernel
In addition to the recommendations from Note 146289, set the following parameter specifically for BW:
em/blocksize_KB 4096
6. Maximum runtime for a work process
Set a higher runtime than is usual for R/3 systems:
rdisp/max_wprun_time 3600
7. Connection to the front end
To avoid connection terminations, set the gw/cpic_timeout parameter to a sufficiently large value:
gw/cpic_timeout 60
8. Further CPIC/RFC settings
gw/max_conn 2000
gw/max_overflow_size 25000000
rdisp/max_comm_entries 2000
Because of the high RFC load, see the recommendataions from Note 74141.
9. Oracle Database Interface
Set the parameter dbs/ora/array_buf_size to a sufficiently large size to keep the number of array inserts, for example, when you upload data or during the rollup, as low as possible. This improves the performance during insert operations. Depending on the size of the available main memory, set the parameter dbs/ora/array_buf_size to a value of 1000000 (1MB).
dbs/ora/array_buf_size 1000000
10. Internet Communication Manager (ICM) Parameter
icm/host_name_full <fully qualified name>
You use this parameter to specify
the fully qualified host name of the
of the host on which the ICM is
running. If this parameter is
not set, the system queries the
system for the host name.
With several host names, this
parameter can override this value.
SAPLOCALHOSTFULL <fully qualified name>
General timeouts:
icm/keep_alive_timeout 3600
This parameter refers to the
"keep-alive-feature" of HTTP1.1
rdisp/plugin_auto_logout 3600
The user context is closed only after
this time interval
Kernel Release 6.20
icm/server_port_: PROT=<xxxx>,PORT=<xxxx>,TIMEOUT=3600
Defines keep_alive_timeout per port
binding
Kernel Release 6.40ff
icm/server_port_: PROT=<xxxx>,PORT=<xxxx>,TIMEOUT=60, PROCTIMEOUT=3600
icm/keep_alive_timeout = 60

12. Essentials for parameter settings
- Save your old profile before you make any changes. If the instance does not start with the new parameters, you can use the old profile.
- Check all parameter settings before you use them (program sappfpar, in the test system, and so on).
- Take into account limitations due to the architecture of the operating system (for example, shared memory limitations). Errors and terminations may occur if you do not take these limitations into account.
Bear in mind that concrete recommendations for parameter settings using TTC can only be given during a session service. ***********************************************************************
WARNING:
If the settings in the R/3 memory areas (R/3 buffer, R/3 extended memory and so on) are too small, unnecessary performance problems can occur. If the settings are too large, errors can occur when you start the R/3 instance or runtime errors can occur. The optimal settings depend on the hardware (CPU and RAM), the R/3 release and the operating system release.
The Solution Support remote services GoingLive and EarlyWatch provide recommendations tailored to your system.

Multiple db2 instances with informix in a single transaction
Hi All,
Can somebody tell how this can be achieved.
I do have 3 db2 instances in three physical mahines. Within a transaction I will
only be writing to a one instance but will be retieving data from the other two
instances. In the same transaction I will be writing to a Informix database as
well. All the systems are on windows.
The application server is Weblogic 7.02.
For DB2 the driver is db2jcc driver which does not support XA transactions. And
for informix we do use the driver which comes along with the informix installation
which is a XA supported driver.
We do have seperate TXDatasources created in the Web logic server and EJBs are
used in the project.
As welogic can give the XA features only for one none XA driver. How about implementing
the above scenario.
Waiting for a early response.Hello Sebastien,
Thanks for your response!!!
Let me make it bit more clear. In deploymewnt descriptor,we define jndi name for any resource and do a lookup on that resource from the code.
Let us consider that resource as JDBC data source for our discussion.usually you define any jdbc data source under a JDBC resource provider.
So my question is,in a single transaction can you access multiple data sources defines under multiple JDBC resource providers.
Ex:A datasource "x "defined under resource provider "A"[say DB2 jbdc provider] and a datasource "y" defined under respurce provider "B"[say mysql jdbc provider].
Thanks -
Is HS Generic Connectivity(db2/400 odbc) supports Distributed Transaction?
hi,
Is HS Generic Connectivity(db2/400 odbc) supports Distributed Transaction?
I am getting an error as follows
"ORA-02047 cannot join the distributed transaction in progress" when i am trying a transaction, which is inserting in to db2/400 and updating in Oracle.
if it does not support this, what is the best way
to do such things using generic connectivity.
(eg. by committing each sql statement ?)
my db is oracle 9i 9.2.0.4.0
remote db is db2/400 connected with client access ODBC.
Thanks
BAHi,
one of the restrictions of generic connectivity is, that distributed transactions are not allowed.
See manual: 7-6 Oracle9 i Heterogeneous Connectivity Administrator's Guide
- Generic Connectivity agents cannot participate in distributed transactions; they
support single-site transactions only
So you can only commit after each statement or you have to use the GATEWAY -
DB2 Transaction log Problem after set db manuell to Rollforward
Hello,
I have a problem when set the db2 manuell in rollforward mode. After I set the command db2rfpen ON E35 my database (E35) is in rollforward mode.
Now I can see with command "db2 rollforward db E35 query status" the Last committed transaction
but the timestamp of the Last committed transaction is 2106-02-07-06.28.15.000000 UTC
but we do not have year 2106!!
did someone have similar issue or a solution for my problem??
Is it possible to manuell update the table via SQL? But I dont know which table i should update..
Thanks in advanced.
RobinHi,
following output of db2 get snapshot for all databases because db2 get snapshot for database E35 does not work..
there I think the timestamp is also ok. Thanks for your help!
regards
Robin

The Datasource configured has "Support Global Transactions" option Checked and One Phase Commit selected.
Any help or pointers in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Nithya SubramanianHi Anuj,
I tried the Option 2 given in the thread which you have mentioned.
Our DataSource is targeted to the managed server so we just restarted the managed server.
I am still getting the same error of
"Cannot call Connection.commit in distributed transaction. Transaction Manager will commit the resource manager when the distributed transaction is committed."
Are there any other alternative approach to fix this issue?

I am installing ECC6 for DB2 on RedHat AS4 platform. During import ABAP phase(running3, waiting1, completed15, total19), I have a strange error. System tell me that DB2 transaction log full. It seems unreasonable. System should know data volume during data import. I increased DB2 log file size when I got the error, and now, import ABAP is still in progress. Does anybody know why I got this error? Thanks so much.
Hello
there should be an SAPINST-Dialog similar to
"SAP System > Database Import"
where you can enter
Number of Parallel Jobs
In newer installations you started in "Default Mode" you need to review your summary dialog and mark the corresponding dialog for respecification.
Then you can specify your desired number of parallel Jobs
Best regards

Z/os db2 (type 2) transaction isolation from rr to cs, general questions
Let me preface this by saying I'm pretty uninformed when it comes to database transaction isolation and what it really means to my application. I've done some homework on the differences between the read committed (cs) and repeatable read (rs) but still a little fuzzy.
App stats: Mainframe z/os db2 v8 (type 2 driver), WAS 6.0.x.x The app runs with about 80000 concurrent users (using about 150-200 JDBC connections in the pool).
I found this which held some good information: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=48&threadID=586570 but it leaves me with some questions still.
Our Mainframe dba is saying he sees a lot of locking (not dead locks, just locks) and it is eating up the MIPS. He told us to set our transaction isolation level to cs to reduce the locking db2 does. But I don't know enough about this to make a good decision. The general consenus I've gotten from various forums (spring, hibernate) is that using CS will cause more problems than it will fix.
The only sql error I see in our logs is due to an insert or update to a FK being invalid. I suppose this could cause some locking problems but would this cause deadlocks?
If anyone can provide some links to explain this, I'd be really appreciative. Or if you have any first hand knowledge -- even better.
Thanks for your time.I am also not an expert and haven't used DB/2 on z/OS but am using it on OS/400. I think your DBA is confused.
From what I have experienced setting commit control to CS causes more locking than RS. From what I can determine (which has been through trial and error so it may not be totally accurate) CS causes the database to exclusive lock all records in the cursor while RS will use shared locks. I do know from painful experience that if you set all your transactions to CS you will experience frequent update problems due to record locks. We had to go through and set everything to RS and, once we did, our concurrency problems were nearly eliminated. There are some instances that you have to use *CS, however, such as when a stored procedure returns a cursor, but the compiler will tell you about this.
Another thing that doesn't make sense is locks are typically implemented as data structures in memory and do not require much if any processor time. I don't know the specifics of DB/2 implementation but Oracle uses simple semaphores, so I would assume IBM does, too.
Also, from my experience, there appears to be no way around DB/2 locking. Having come from an Oracle background I find the amount of locking DB/2 does totally frustrating. It's not as bad as SQL Server but can become problematic at times. That is just my $.02 anyway. -
Update deactivated when DB2 transaction logs fill.
Hi All,
We are running SAP on DB2 Version9 on AIX platform.
We notirced that when transaction logs get full, the Update workprocess gets deactivated. This happens in any usage type that we have.. SRM, ECC , BI.
In the workprocess log we find this
C &+ ABAP location info 'SAPLSNR3', 2480
C &+ SAP user 'P1245690', transaction code 'WRF_WSOA2'
C &+

I have never heard of Update being deactivated for transaction log full at DB level. Update can be held up butwill it get deactivated.
Is it possible that update gets deactivated if it not able to post the tranaction data in DB?
Please let me know your ideas on this and how we can prevent this update from deactivating.
Thanks and REgards,
RaghavanHi,
If you search for "SQL0964C The transaction log for the database is full" then some of solutions ask for to execute the below mentioned steps :-
Use the following procedure to increase the size of the DB2 transaction log (logfilsiz):
1. Determine the current log file size setting by issuing the command:
su - <db2instance>
db2 list db directory # to list the database name
db2 connect to <databaseName>
db2 get db config for <databaseName> and check LOGFILSIZ parameter.
A sample output given from my test system :-
Log file size (4KB) (LOGFILSIZ) = 16380
Number of primary log files (LOGPRIMARY) = 20
Number of secondary log files (LOGSECOND) = 40
Changed path to log files (NEWLOGPATH) =
Path to log files = /db2/<dataname>/log_dir/NODE0000/
Overflow log path (OVERFLOWLOGPATH) =
Mirror log path (MIRRORLOGPATH) =
First active log file =
Block log on disk full (BLK_LOG_DSK_FUL) = YES
Percent max primary log space by transaction (MAX_LOG) = 0
Num. of active log files for 1 active UOW(NUM_LOG_SPAN) = 0
2. Increase the size of the log file size setting by issuing the command:
db2 UPDATE db cfg for <databaseName> using LOGFILSIZ <new_value>
Example:
db2 UPDATE db cfg for <databaseName> using LOGFILSIZ 5000
3. Stop the ibmslapd process.
4. Issue the commands:
db2 force applications all
db2stop force
5. Restart ibmslapd process.
Once the db issue is resolved then your update work process must be running fine. -
Transaction Help ? JMS and db2 database without appserver
We have a Queue and db2 database.
need to read the message from queue and write it to the database in a standalone application without appserver. Now question is how to have a single transaction for both the jobs?
Please advice!!!If you want to receive a JMS message and write to a database in the same transaction, then it sounds as if you are asking for the ability to enlist both transactional resources within the same XA transaction and then perform a two-phase commit of the two resources. If you use an application server then this is easy to configure.
Even if you don't want to use an application server (or some other container offering similar services), you will still need a transaction manager, but will need to enlist the transactional resources yourself. Possible but not easy. If an application server is too heavyweight, then look for lighter-weight alternatives.

Weblogic5.1, Transaction involving SQL Svr and AS400/DB2
Hi, after reading quite a few posts regarding this issue I believe to demarcate a
transaction involving SQL Server and AS400/DB2 is not impossible. But we have to
handle the rollback and other stuff on our own. Am I correct? Is there any hack around
this?
I've tried to use an EJB(ejbY) that will insert a record in AS400/DB2 and subsequently
in ejbY, I invoke another EJB(ejbX) that reside in another WL5.1 to insert a record
in SQL Server. Of course this is demarcated with UserTransaction. Technically is
this possible? This is because I've encountered some exceptions with this hack and
would like to seek some advise.
Thanks.

HSODBC - DB2 transaction isolation - uncommitted reads
Hi!
I need to be able to read uncommitted data on the DB2 side using HSODBC. We are running into contention when updates happen on the DB2 side at the same time that we are trying to read from Oracle side using HSODBC. If we set the transaction isolation level on the Oracle side will that be passed over to the DB2 side? Otherwise do we need to use DBMS_PASSTHRU, etc.?
Thanks for your help!
Dave VenusHSODBC is designed to work only with commited read.
