Transaction Help ? JMS and db2 database without appserver

We have a Queue and db2 database.
need to read the message from queue and write it to the database in a standalone application without appserver. Now question is how to have a single transaction for both the jobs?
Please advice!!!

If you want to receive a JMS message and write to a database in the same transaction, then it sounds as if you are asking for the ability to enlist both transactional resources within the same XA transaction and then perform a two-phase commit of the two resources. If you use an application server then this is easy to configure.
Even if you don't want to use an application server (or some other container offering similar services), you will still need a transaction manager, but will need to enlist the transactional resources yourself. Possible but not easy. If an application server is too heavyweight, then look for lighter-weight alternatives.

    Hi Jesse,
The Citadel database is not a relational database.  It's highly optimized for storing lower-rate (non-waveform) channel-by-channel, or "trace" measurement data.  Another option you can consider is using DSC and Citadel on the server then writing a utility to export the data from Citdael to an SQL database.  --That would solve the problem of having to write a logger application from scratch.  You would only have to write the relatively simple application to export the data from Citadel and import it into a relational database.
You could accomplish this two ways.  First, DSC includes a set of VIs that will retrieve historical data from Ciatdel.  You could use LabVIEW to parse this data and write it to a table in a relational database.  Second, Citadel actually includes a locally accessible ODBC interface.  (You can query Citadel using an SQL query from the local computer).  You could query Citadel using this interface, then write the result to a table in a relational database.
To view Citadel in its native format or query a Citadel database using ODBC from a remote comptuer that comptuer would need to have a licensed DSC RTS installed.

  • LabVIEW for Linux and DB2 Database

I am trying to write an application in LabVIEW under Linux that will
take all my data and dump it into DB2 database. I was going to use the
SQL Toolkit that National Instruments supply but they dont have a
version for Linux. Does any one knows a way around this problem to
communicate with database from LabVIEW in Linux. Thanks a lot!
    Arkadiy

I did not implement it yet, but made tests which let me think that the
system is absolutly easy to implement:
Acquisition system (AS, Windows) creates data and sends it to Database
    system (DS, SGI IRIX).
AS: Labview5.1, Internet-Toolkit (I think this is on Linux as well), but
not SQL-toolkit (to exansive for my needs).
DS: Usual Unix-System. MySQL Server running, database for acquired data,
    User acount for AS.
AS sends a data-file via ftp to DS, connects via telnet to DS and runs a
small script to insert the datafile into the database.
Seems complicated, but in fact is very easy to implement. I will look if
I can find some of my test files, if that helps.
    Greetings, Gilbert
P.S.: If you go for this solution, I will be interested if and how it
    works.

  • Transactions accross iFS and 'normal' database

I want to do a combined transaction where file operations are combined with normal table data transactions - for instance I would like to delete a file and at the same time insert a row in my log-table (this is just an example :-)).
The documentation is quite unhelpful here as it gives me no description on how to do this. Has anybody out there tries this ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Is there a way to do something like this? I need to update a field in another schema on the same database as IFS, based on a action that happens in IFS.

So what I whish for is that I can somehow have a shared transaction spanning across the iFS and the normal database with full two phase commit.

  • Time Zone issue with 7.0 and DB2

    Hi,
We are having a time zone issue with weblogic server 7.0 and DB2 database. I would really appreciate if somebody provides a solution for this issue.
Our db2 DB is located in PST time zone and weblogic server is located in EST time zone.
When we access current timestamp from db2, we are getting PST time converted to EST and EST time zone attached with timestamp value.
I tried to use resultset.getTimeStamp (1,<calendar>), unfortunately this method is not supported in the DB2 driver version I am using.
We want to get same value as returned by db2 with db2 time zone not weblogic server time zone.
And also when we add new record with timestamp column through web service, regardless the time zone value sent by web service client ".Net" ,
Weblogic server converts the java.util.Date value to weblogic time zone and stores in the db.
For example, client sent 17:00 hours CST, but when it gets stored in db through weblogic ws, weblogic converts 17:00 to 18:00 EST and stores in database as 18:00 hours without any time zone. When we read this value back, we are getting it 18:00 EST only not 17:00 CST.
This is fine as long as writing and reading by same weblogic server. If another weblogic server instance in PST time zone read this value, it takes as 18:00 PST.
Due to this our application always shows timestamp hours differently.
Could some body help me to fix this problem, we are getting this problem in production after we moved our DB2 location to different time zone.
    Thanks
    Balaji

  • Best Practice to Setup an application to work with both oracle and db2 db

    Hi,
We have an application that currently supports both oracle and db2 databases . It is currently using JPA with eclipselink as backend mechanism and we want to move to ADFBc as our backend . So what is best practice to do this?
I came across an old post in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/adf-methodology/UlJZSTu14Io that states to create two different model projects to support oracle and db2 .
Is this still the standard ? Is there a way that we could work around rather than creating multiple projects?
How do i get the view controller to work with multiple model projects if this is the case?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the response .
The problem is i would have the same schema on both the databases (both in oracle and db2) .
I don't see a scenario where i want both the application model projects at the same time . What i meant is , Application will either be deployed with Oracle DB or DB2 but not with both on a production environment .
So is there a way where i just change the connection parameters alone rather having two different models ?
If i have to use two model projects ,  would it be possible say i built the view controller for Oracle , and use it for DB2 if i make sure the BC objects names are similar between model projects and switch just the model jar based on the deployment environment ?

  • Connecting Oracle Reports (9i or higher) to a DB2 database

Hi all, this may just be a newbie question. In Oracle reports, is it possible to generate reports getting data from a DB2 database? I asked this because the clients of one of our projects requires us to print reports on both their oracle and db2 databases. We were thinking if we should use Oracle Reports as our standard reporting tool for this. What do you guys think?
Also any good articles, docs and info abt this topic is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time in reading this post.
    regards,
    espi

Personally, if it is feasible to do so, I would prefer to export and import specific application schemas or tablespaces rather than doing a full export and import. That's more of a personal preference thing.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about moving to a different operating system-- moving to a different Oracle version is likely a far more drastic change. That said, there are a number of things in Oracle that are operating system and/or version specific that have the potential to cause you problems, so you need to do a thorough test. Well over 99% of the features are going to behave exactly the same, but every application of sufficient complexity seems to manage to find one odd-ball scenario where something changes between releases.

I just need to bring the database up,no need any exact data
I can refresh from prod laterThen drop and recreate database. Basically and since you are not in archive mode, no recover is possible. Period.

I tried the Option 2 given in the thread which you have mentioned.
Our DataSource is targeted to the managed server so we just restarted the managed server.
I am still getting the same error of

Are there any other alternative approach to fix this issue?

  • JMS and transactions

    Dear all,
I need some clarification about JMS for my Thesis : after reading some tutorials I still am confused about JMS used with JTA transactions.
    1) If a JMS transacted session is started within a JTA transaction (let's say a UserTransaction spanned by an EJB) and the transaction rolls back, the message will be put back in the Queue, right ?
    2) Is it true also the opposite ? that is if I perform some insert/delete/update within a JMS transacted session, and the transaction is rolled back, the insert/delete/update are rolled back too ?
Thank you very much for your help
    Lucas

    Hi Lucas,
What you describe requires XA or distributed transactions. And (I'm fairly sure) XA doesn't work with Bean Managed Transactions and the UserTransaction interface. XA allows multiple transactional resources to get enlisted in a global transaction. When the app server decides all the work is done, the global transaction is committed or rolled back using a two-phase commit protocol.
So except for the UserTransaction bit, what you describe is how it works. The messages will be only sent/received and the database work will only be committed if the whole global transaction is committed. If any part is rolled back, everything will be rolled back. JMS implementations typically will set the JMSRedelivered flag along with incrementing the JMSXDeliveryCount property when messages are put back on the destination.

  • How do I send SQL statement to SQL Server and return data without using Database Connectivity Toolkit?

Hi,  I've been trying to figure out how to pull data out of my SQL Server databases and from reading some posts and doing some tests with examples, I can kind of get data connecting into my SQL server, but so far nothing that helps.  Is it possible to actually get data out of a SQL Server database without using the Database COnnectivity Toolkit?  and if so, how?  are there whitepapers and/or examples of this?  So far, I cannot find anything that works.  thanks.

I haven't ever done it before in LabVIEW and don't have the time to do much of the research right now.
That having been said, you will want to look for either a .NET library or an ActiveX control. Aside from the toolkit, you aren't going to find a native solution to LabVIEW - which means using other libraries. A quick google search returns this:

  • Recover database without controlfile and redo logs

    Hi guys,
I am doing a testing with an Oracle Database 11.1.0.7.0, I want recover a database in this scenario without using RMAN:
    -All controlfiles are missing
    -All redo logs are missing
-I have a Backup Controlfile To Trace Resetlogs (bkp_controlfile.sql)
-The database is in archivelog mode
-The database was created with OMF (Oracle Managed Files)
So I have done this steps:
    1) When the database was opened I rename all controlfiles and all redo logs
    2) Shutdown Abort
    3) I run the bkp_controlfile.sql, here I have a problem...
The database put in NOMOUNT, the controlfile was created and started the RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE, but when run ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS; appear this:
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110: data file 1:
'/u02/app/oracle/oradata/OMF/datafile/o1_mf_system_68hzcb2z_.dbf'I wasn´t expect this because I don´t want recover a datafile, I only want open with resetlogs.
    Any suggestion to help me?
    Thanks a lot.

Excelent! Thanks for your answers Markus and Hemant.
    In conclusion...
    - If we have all redo logs availables we can recreate the control file and recover the database without any problems using backup controlfile to trace noresetlogs*.
    - if we haven´t all redo logs availables, there are 2 situations:
    1) If the database shutdown properly:_ We will be able to open the database using recover database using backup controlfile until cancel*.
    2) If the database doesn´t shutdown properly:_ We won´t be able to open the database with only a backup controlfile to trace.
With all this I close this thread. Was very good experience.
If anyone would add something will be welcome.
    Thanks for all
I wish add the results of one of my tests: if I did all the steps in only one session of sqlplus I can shutdown properly the database, but if do the shutdown immediate* in a new session I can´t shutdown properly the database. Here I post the output:
