Transation log is full in QAS server

Hi gurus
Need ur help. os windows 2003 database sql2005 sap ver ECC6.0. Transation log is full in QAS server. How can i shrink the transaction log of qas server. for that should we have to take full backup of database. please give me the step of shrink transation log file .

Pls follow the steps
1. Back up the transaction log file to make most of the active virtual log files inactive. Therefore, the inactive virtual log files can be removed in a later step. To do this, run a Transact-SQL statement that is similar to the following Transact-SQL statement.
BACKUP LOG <DatabaseName> TO DISK = '<BackupFile>'
Note In this statement, <DatabaseName> is a placeholder for the name of the database that you are backing up. In this statement, <BackupFile> is a placeholder for the full path of the backup file.
For example, run the following Transact-SQL statement.
BACKUP LOG TestDB TO DISK='C:\TestDB1.bak'
2. Shrink the transaction log file. To do this, run a Transact-SQL statement that is similar to the following Transact-SQL statement.
DBCC SHRINKFILE (<FileName>, <TargetSize>) WITH NO_INFOMSGS
Note In this statement, <FileName> is a placeholder for the name of the transaction log file. In this statement, <TargetSize> is a placeholder for the target size that you want the transaction log file to be. The target size must be reasonable.
For example, you cannot shrink the transaction log file to a size that is less than 2 virtual log files.
3. If the DBCC SHRINKFILE statement does not shrink the transaction log file to the target size, run the BACKUP LOG statement that is mentioned in step 1 to make more of the virtual log files inactive.
4. Run the DBCC SHRINKFILE statement that is mentioned in step 2. After this operation, the transaction log file should be similar to the target size.

The process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters' error for Log Reader Agent and SQL Server Assertion 17066 & 3624 errors in SQL Logs

One of our SQL Server started creating SQLDUMP file and and on investigation I found the error longs are filled with Errors 3624 & 17066. There is transnational replication configured on one of the databases is the LogReader Agent is failing error "The
process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters' on XXXXX".
Not sure if both these Assertion & Logreader Agent errors are related. Before I remove and put the replication, I wanted to check if anyone has experienced the same issues or aware of what the cause.

You need to determine if this error is a transient one or a show stopper one.
It sounds like your log reader agent has crashed and can't continue.
If so your best bet is to call Microsoft CSS and open a support incident.
It also sounds like DBCC CHECKDB was running while the log reader agent crashed.
If you need to get up and running again run sp_replrestart, but then you might find that replicated commands are not picked up. You will need to run a validation to determine if you need to reinitialize the entire publication or a single article.
I have run into errors like this, but they tend to be transient, ie the log reader agent crashes, and on restart it works fine.

Archive The Log When Full Disabled

Currently I'm having problem in setting up auto archive log for "Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Application Server - Applications > Debug", because the option is disabled (I've disabled the log to setup the properties).

Generally , you need to enable logging then you can choose the action after the log size is reached .
If this machine is domain joined , you can edit the domain policy on DC :
computer configuration \windows settings \security settings \event log
The Retention method for event log policy settings determine the wrapping method for the application, security, and system logs .

How to monitor Log Backups for MS SQL Server

Hello all.
We are running Solution Manager 7.1 on SP Stack 10 and have downloaded the latest template content.
When configuring the templates for DB monitoring, we noticed that although there is a metric that monitors the age of the last DB backup, there is no such metric to monitor the age of the last successful Log backup, or even a metric to alert us on a failed backup / log backup.
Has any of you ever had to create a custom metric to monitor either the age of the latest successful log backup for MS SQL Server, or a custom metric to alert on failed backups / log backups?
If yes, could you provide some instructions on how to create such a metric?

I had a similar idea to check the DB log file for failed log backups. The problem is that when I opened the log file from the dbacockpit, I found no errors/warnings for the days that our log backups did not run or failed. Here is a small part of that log to show you what I mean. In this example, the log backup was not running from 25th of July until the 28th of July when we fixed the log backups again, after receiving a disk space warning (log disk drive was almost full):
The last successful log backup is mentioned in the log: "20140724091524    Backup    Log was backed up"
Then as the days go by, there is no backup failure entries whatsoever to look for them in the log:

Until finally on the 28th we restored the log backup functionality:

So, I find it difficult to deduce an appropriate string to look for in the log, in order to generate an alert when my log backups are not working.
Any suggestions? Am I looking at the wrong place perhaps?

Client Deletion, Transaction log getting full.

Hi Gurus,
We are trying to delete a client by running:
clientremove
client = 200 (*200 being the client we want to remove)
select *
The transaction log disk space allocated is 50GB, it is getting full (in simple mode) and client deletion never completes. The size of the table it is accessing is 86 GB, and i think 200 client will be occupying around 40-45GB. Client 200 has 15.5 million rows in the table.
I am i giving proper command ?is there any explicit commit i can include or any workaround for deleting the client and not hammer the log file.

Backup the active transaction log file and Shrink the file directly.

Which version of SQL Server u are using ? SP Level ?
Frequently perform Transaction Log backup (BACKUP TRANS) to remove inactive space within the Transaction Log Files.

Content database transaction log is full

Hi guys,
i am facing some very serious issues right here, SharePoint content can't be updated because the transaction log drive for the logs is full. the following message is displayed in the event viewer
'The transaction for database wss_content_guid is full. To find out why space can't be reused see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases'

The recommended way to truncate the transaction log if you are using a full recovery model is to back up the log. SQL Server 2005 automatically truncates the inactive parts of the transaction log when you back up the log. It is also recommended that you pre-grow the transaction log to avoid auto-growing the log. For more information about growing the transaction log, see Managing the Size of the Transaction Log File (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=124882). For more information about using a full recovery model, see Backup Under the Full Recovery Model (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=127985). We do not recommend that you manually shrink the transaction log size or manually truncate the log by using the Truncate method.

So I would suggest you backing up SharePoint by either the SharePoint Central Administration Web site or the Stsadm command-line tool.

Keep getting errors from application log that indicates transaction log is full but it has plenty of space

Dealing with a 4rd party application that inserts into its log table, but watching sql profiler i see a ton of the same traffic. Its trying to insert into the table, but generates an error that mentions the transaction log for that DB is full.
Well, earlier I had reset the recovery mode to simple, from full since this is a test system and dont really care about recovery.
So the message mentions to check the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases and there the value is 'CHECKPOINT'. At least at that point in time.
There is plenty of space in the transaction log and the physical disk has plenty of space as well.
What could be causing the error that seems to suggest the transaction log is full, when in fact it is not?

What is the setup for autogrowth on the log file?

O10g se db install - application log gets full

Hi
I have installed o10g se db release 10.1.0.2 on windows server. (AMD Athlon 1.3GHz, 512 MBy RAM, windows 2000 server, sp4).
After installation the application log gets full with the error message:

Does anyone know what is the cause an how to solve the problem.

I am glad (well not glad, it sucks but I'm glad I'm not alone) to hear you are experiencing the same thing. I have literally tried everything to get this to work. I even took a brand new laptop out of the box and Adobe was the only thing I installed. I can usually follow other posts and fix issues but I am stumped and WAY aggrivated. I love the concept as does my editing team but I'm in charge of installing and updating 5 PC's and my team is now aggrivated that they can't get what they need to do their jobs. Even if you download the trials, you don't get everything you need for the whole cloud process. Not to mention we all need updates badly and really need to start using Edge Animate.

Are you running any Anti-virus software or do you have your firewall turned on? If so, disable them and try again. If that doesn't work, delete the iCloud account and then sign it back on again.
Make sure you are running the most current version of the iCloud Control Panel:

How can I get an accurate count of computers (workstations) logged in to my SQL Server database?

We license our software by number of workstations.
I have a query that I have used for years to get an accurate count of the workstations logged in to my SQL Server database. For simplicity, all users use the same login name/password. This is built in to the script that attaches to the DB. They
have access only to that DB with the exception of
USE [Master] GRANT VIEW SERVER STATE to MyUser
The query that has been working is below:
Basically this relies on the mac address (Master.dbo.sysprocesses.net_addre

ss), since both Workstation names and ip addresses can be duplicated.
Recently this has stopped working at a number of customers. Suddenly individual workstations are showing multiple net addresses for the same workstation causing a substantial overcount of users. This may be related to SQL Server 2012 - not sure.
What I need is a very reliable way to get a count of workstations logged in to my database.
If anyone can tell me why I am suddenly getting multiple net_addresses for each workstation and how to prevent that that would be one possible solution.
Otherwise if anyone can give me a rock solid way to get a workstation count other than the above that would be great. Our largest customer is 50 users by the way.

I think your count is getting skewed because of duplicate rows in sysprocesses because of parallelism. Add DISTINCT to your query:

Will not allow me to add caldav account (Calendar couldn't log in to the CalDAV server "webdav.skedge.me"error message)or I get the not a secure server message with the option to continue...but then it sticks it wont continue

I WISH I HAD NOT UPGRADED...THIS IS A NIGHTMARE. I need to sync my appointment scheduler that is embedded in my website to my ical (which was easily done through publishing with the previous version) since I have upgraded I dont have the option to publish...but can add the cal DAV account, which I tried to do but I get a "Calendar couldn't log in to the CalDAV server “webdav.skedge.me”." error message if I go through edit ccount> add other account in system prefereneces otherwise I get a not secure server warning that will not continue when I select continue if I simply try to add an account using the + sign options at the bottom left of the systems preference pop up window
found a potenital fix (that I think would work if I could understand how to do what they are telling me to do) it said to configure webdav sharing for active directory accounts...tried to follow the instructions...could not understand them (very techy instructions).
FYI to any one that may find it in thier heart to answer this...I AM NOT COMPUTER LITERATE I am a veterinarian not a computer programer...so please but things in terms I can understand...i dont know what root access or server admin means...I dont know how to edit config files or even open directories with terminal ...i dont know what pico is or how to open it on my computer.
