Transcoding in Lync and CUCM scenario

Hi Guys,
I am reading the blog below and find some point is quiet confusing,
blog.unplugthepbx.com/2011/04/11/integrating-microsoft-lync-and-cisco-unified-communication-manager-part-4-remote-site-scenario/
One of the goals that the author tries to achieve is:
"A voice call from Lync to Cisco across the WAN should be RTAudio across the WAN and be converted to G711 at the mediation server in the site with the Cisco phone"
I am wondering the call flow based on it, from the article it suggests:
Lync (local)-----mediation (local)-----WAN------(remote) mediation(transcodes RTAudio to G711)-------cisco phone (????).
But when the call comes out of the remote mediation server, how can it reach to the remote cisco phone?
I myself think the call flow should be like below:
Lync (local)-----mediation (local)-----WAN------CUCM-----(remote) cisco voice gateway---phone. But if it is the case, where the transcoding happens???
Can someone please give any advise, thanks.
Regards
Jim

If all you want to do is to ensure RTAudio is used on the WAN, then go ahead and put mediation servers in each site.  However, if your ultimate goal is to reduce WAN utilization, then there's a better way (but it is relatively complex).
You don't really need to deploy mediation servers at each site to get calls to transcode to Cisco.  Lync clients are able to talk directly to Cisco using G.711, avoiding the need for transcoding at all, and you can keep the majority of calls off the
WAN by using Media Bypass.
The way I typically do things with CUCM with remote ISRs is setup trunks to each ISR (one each for Chicago, New York and Detroit), and use media bypass to keep most of your voice traffic off the WAN.
Make sure you've configured all your subnets in Lync and assigned them to sites
Create a PSTN gateway pointing to your CUCM. This will handle signalling.
Create trunks off the PSTN gateway for each of the ISRs, using different ports. Set each trunk's
RepresentativeMediaIP to the IP address of the ISR. This ensures that media bypass will work at each site.
In Lync, set the trunks to use Media Bypass
For call routing, you have two options:
5a) Setup standard voice policies for each location to use the ISR in that location for all calls and assign them to your users (works great if everybody typically stays in one place)
5b) Use location-based routing to ensure that calls will route out the local ISR no matter where the user is currently sitting.  Fairly easy to setup, but hard to manage and troubleshoot because its all done in Powershell.
With a bit of fiddling, you can ensure that all PSTN calls and Lync-Cisco calls within the local site will route out the local ISR, avoiding the WAN entirely.  Inter-site routing gets a bit more complicated, but if you really want to minimize bandwidth,
you can transcode calls to use G.729 via Cisco for the most efficient bandwidth utilization.  This does come at a cost of increased processor utilization on your ISR and potentially reduced call quality with all the transcoding, however.
Doing it this way does take more work, but if your ultimate goal is to reduce voice utilization of the WAN, I encourage you to check it out.

  • Can not foward into voicemail from outside call on CUE and CUCM 8.6

    Dear Team,
I have CUE Utility and CUCM 8.6.
I can call from local, if user busy or go out office then call will foward to voice mail.It is ok.
But when i call from outside to my phone(direct line), then call can not foward to voice mail on CUE.
    Please help me some solution.
    Thanks.

    Hi nam,
A couple of things to check. Have you set the Forward Busy/No Answer "External"
on the DN config page in CUCM?
Are the calls coming in using a codec other than g.711?
Best Practices for Deploying Cisco Unity Express
    • Each mailbox can be associated with a primary extension number and a primary E.164 number.
Typically, this number is the direct-inward-dial (DID) number that PSTN callers use. If the primary
E.164 number is configured to any other number, use Cisco IOS translation patterns to match either
the primary extension number or primary E.164 number so that the correct mailbox can be reached
    during SRST mode.
    • Each Cisco Unity Express site must be associated with a CTI route point for voicemail and one for
AA (if licensed and purchased), and you must configure the same number of CTI route points as
Cisco Unity Express ports licensed. Ensure that the number of sites with Cisco Unity Express does
not exceed the CTI scalability guidelines presented in the chapter on Call Processing, page 8-1.
    • Cisco Unity Express is associated with a JTAPI user on Cisco Unified CallManager. Although a
single JTAPI user can be associated with multiple Cisco Unity Expresses in a system, Cisco
recommends associating each dedicated JTAPI user in Cisco Unified CallManager with a single
    Cisco Unity Express.
    • Calls into Cisco Unity Express use G.711 only. Cisco recommends using a local transcoder to
convert the G.729 calls traversing the WAN into G.711 calls. You can configure Cisco Unified
CallManager regions with the G.711 voice codec for intra-region calls and the G.729 voice codec
    for inter-region calls.
    • If transcoding facilities are not available at the Cisco Unity Express site, provision enough
bandwidth for the required number of G.711 voicemail calls over the WAN. Configure the Cisco
Unified CallManager regions with the G.711 voice codec for calls between the IP phones and Cisco
Unity Express devices (CTI ports and CTI route points).
    • The CTI ports and CTI route points can be defined in specific locations. Cisco recommends using
location-based call admission control between Cisco Unified CallManager and Cisco Unity Express.
    RSVP may also be used.

  • Is there a way to script finding users in Unity and CUCM

I currently get a list once a month of all users who no longer work for our company. As we roll out more VOIP installs the list grows and the old way of doing things needs to change. Currently I search one by one through CUCM and Unity to see if the user is assigned a phone. I would like to be able to pull a list of all users from both Unity and CUCM put that into a spread sheet and then compare my attrition spread sheet to that spread sheet therby speeding up the process of determining which users might be assigned a phone.
Note company hires warehouse workers and they come and go frequently and are not assigned phones but, they along with users with phones are all dumped into a spread sheet so I have no way of know who is who.
    1. I have a spread sheet with names on it both people with and without phones
    2. I would like to download a list so I can compare the two and determine which ones have phones
I am open to other ideas and suggestions to make the laborious task easier.
    Thank You in advance

Seems easy enough on the face of it - unless there's something I'm not getting - are you talking Unity or Unity Connection (folks often just say "Unity" as shorthand for either) - if you're dealing with Unity then you'll have to dance with ODBC which isnt' the end of the world but doing it from "script" is going to be a challange.  If you're talking about Unity Connection you can also use ODBC but you have the option for an HTTP REST search for users by name.
So it's just a matter of searching by name and getting matches back (names are not guranteed to be unique of course, assuming you mean name as first/last/display name and not alias).  It can kick out all matches I suppose and include the extension number.  Unity and Unity connecton _always_ have extension numbers (it's required) so I'm unsure what someone "without a phone" would look like in Unity/Connection - that's a bit odd - how do they check messages?  And without a phone why do they have a voice mail account?

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 and CUCM 9.1.2 - Exch not recognizing called extension

I think I'm almost there in getting Exchange 2013 SP1 UM working with CUCM 9.1.2...I've got two issues at the moment that I need a little help with.
    1) When I dial my VM pilot (6040) from a UM enabled extension it prompts to enter an extension. When I dial the same extension and let it ring to VM, Exchange picks up and says "the person you are trying to reach does not have a valid voice mail box
    on our system".
    2) This just started happening this afternoon, when I dial my VM pilot (6040) exch3 picks up as thats what I have my route pattern pointing to. If I enter the extension of a mailbox on exch2, I get stuck in a endless loop.
I've followed this post as a guide but it hasn't resolved my issue.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11914031/exchange-2013-um-and-cucm-86
My Exchange environment looks like this:
    Site 1:
exch1 - CAS/Mailbox, used for mainly utility type work, journal, dedicated SMTP flows etc
    exch2 - CAS/Mailbox, part DAG13
    exch3 - CAS/Mailbox, part of DAG13
    Site 2:
    exch2dr - CAS/Mailbox, part of DAG13
    exch3dr - CAS/Mailbox, part of DAG13
DAG13 is stretched between two sites, there are no users at our DR site so CUCM is pointing to Site 1 for UM. Each site has an internet facing CAS-only server for OWA/EAS etc.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'd love to get rid of Unity.
    EDIT:
I just found this event in the event logs:
The Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging service on the Mailbox server received a diverted call with ID "d51600-3a3140c5-9b8-c1414ac@EXCH3-IPADDR" for extension "4099" on UM dial plan "CUCM" from UM IP gateway "CUCM IP",
but no UM-enabled mailbox for the corresponding extension could be found. Please check the extension and make sure that the corresponding mailbox is enabled for UM and associated with the correct UM dial plan.

9.1.2 I think it is, we upgraded to avoid the known DNS bug
I cant see how to PM you either
The crux of it was outlined below with some tweaks
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2014/04/30/step-by-step-integration-between-exchange-2013-um-and-cisco-unified-communication-manager.aspx
As we have multiple combined role servers, our trunks are set up as follows:
    1. 1 x CAS Trunk - contains all CAS Servers on port 5060
    2. 4 x MBX Trunks - contains Maibox Server with ports 5062-5068
On top of that, we had to Allow "Redirecting Diversion Header Delivery - Inbound (and Outbound)" on the CAS Trunk but DISABLE it on the Mailbox Trunks
Also, make sure that you are using Telephone Extension Dial plans in Exchange 2013 (Despite them being unable to be associated with a 13 Server - EX13 answers for all calls anyway)
Lastly, the MS documentation is a little strange - it says that as your last step of UM migration, you should point your Call Manager to 2013 - I don't agree with that statement, EX13 routes calls back to 2010 UM Servers perfectly fine, so treat it the same
as any other CAS based service - point to 2013, and it will handle the rest

  • Component material to be used for both MTO and MTS scenario

    Hello All,
What is the setting required at IMG or at Master data level, in order to use the component for both MTO and MTS scenario.
    Detail description of problem:
In the system already MTS process is exist. And now business wants MTO scenario, in order to have sales order specific stock.
So i have made the necessary configuration in requirement class (special stock - E in account assignment field) and the basic requirement is working fine. Meaning when i create prodcution order manually using transaction CO08 with reference to sales order i am able to create it. And no problem in executing GR for the prodcution order. Also noticed that after GR the stock is under the salesorder created.
But the problem is when i try to do the goods issue for the component to the prodcution order, system is expecting sales order specific stock for components too.
But business wants to use components from unrestricted stock as of Make to stock scenario.
Please guide me how to achieve this? This is critical to business so expecing quick recommendations from experts.
    Best Regards,
    Krish

    HI
For  your component if you dont set indi/collective requirement indicator as 2 collective reqmt MRP 4 view then only system will not allow you to use r special stock E  for sales order
if you want to make all stock avaliable and PR and PO not sales order wise then maintain above indicator as 2 in MRP4 view.

  • Proxy Media: Transcode Source File and Export Read File...

Hello, I'm new to FCPX. I have a Panasonic HC-X920. When I shoot things I copy the entire folder tree to my hard drive and import from there, rather than directly from the SD card.
I learned that FCPX "re-wraps" the truly original h.264 MTS files to "Original" h.264 MOV files. Not a huge deal, as there doesn't appear to be quality loss, and the MB/s rate is slightly higher on the MOVs. Ideally I'd be able to use the MTS files but FCP is Quicktime-based and I've decided I'm not worried about it.
    Anyway,
My computer can't handle playing back 1080p 60fps h.264 footage. In order to have playback on an FCPX timeline, I have to transcode to either Proxy or Optimized media. Optimized, of course, takes up a ton of space, so I'm curious about using Proxy. But I want more info first.
I'm most curious about question #1, but here are two questions:
    1.
Let's say I transcode everything to Proxy Media upon import. When I go to share/export a final file from my timeline, which of the following does FCPX do?
    (A) Export the timeline using/reading from the lower-quality Proxy media, ignoring the Originals.
    (B) Automatically replace the Proxy media with the Original media files, and export the timeline using/reading the Original media files while ignoring the Proxies.
(And if B is the answer, is it reading the Original MTS or Original MOV? I'd assume MOV, right?)
    Does this question make sense?
I'll mostly be editing home movies with this, so it's not imperative that I be able to see what I'm editing in vivid detail and I can use Proxy for that to save disk space. But I DON'T want my final exports to be based on that lower-quality transcoded 422 Proxy Media; I want the proxies to be view-only, and I want the final exported quality to be based on the quality of the Original media.
    My other question:
    2. (probably not a big deal either way)
When FCPX transcodes to Proxy and/or Optimized, is it reading from (A) the "Original" MOV files it created upon import, or (B) from the "truly original" MTS files?
    Thanks!

Tom Wolsky, thanks for your answer.
    1. Where do I switch playback to original, in the Preferences? I'm attaching what I see in my Playback preference window. I don't see a place to switch this, am I doing something wrong?
    2. That's what I suspected, thanks for clarifying.

  • Oracle BPM / SOA Suite and Big and Complex Scenarios

    Hi people,
I have worked for a company that in the past chose Oracle BPM (ALBPM at the time) and one of the big problems that the company had was in relation about big processes and complex scenarios.
This company is for the e-commerce area and our processes can have many instances at the same time, for example, a process to all the "order flow" can have thousands, maybe millions instances at the same time.
So we choose to abort the BPMS option in the past and now we back to talk again about BPMS and one question is always made by the company board: if we use BPM again, the new versions can be support all the our volume data?
To be honestly, I don't have this answer so I like to know if any people here has a paper or report about Oracle BPM 11g and big scenarios with many instances. If anybody has a case too, it will be relevant.
Another and the final question: how does the oracle bpm engine treats the case when my engine reboots and before that the engine had many instances active? The istances will be lost?

11g ADF is not certified with 10g SOA Suite. What I mean by this is that your 11g ADF will need to run on WLS 10.3.1 and SOA Suite 10g will eith run on oc4j or WLS 9.2.
ADF is just JDeveloper, you deploy to WLS 11g (10.3.1).
This is the most detailed 10g SOA Suite guide I know for 10g
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10291_01/core.1013/e10294/toc.htm
note that it is for 10.1.3.3, you just need to subsitute for 10.1.3.5 (latest release)

  • UCCX and CUCM Upgrade

Hi All - We are planning to go for CUCM direct upgrade from 7.1.3 - 9.1.2
    Also for UCCX from 7.0.1 SR5 ---> 8.5.1 --> 8.5.1 SU3 --> 9.0.2
During upgarde of UCCX 8.5.1 on UCS Machine it will ask to eneter CUCM AXL user Credentails which is in 9.1.2, So we need to know is that correct way by doing so since UCCX is 8.5.1 and CUCM 9.1.2
Also i checked few PDF'S where i can get below info.
These Unified CM versions are supported - 8.0(1), 8.0(2) and all SUs, 8.5(1) and all SUs, and Unified CM 8.6.2.22033 and later.
Does it mean CUCM 9.1.2 is compatible with UCCX 8.5.1 and 8.5.1 SU3.

  • Central Contract, MDM Catalog, and classic scenario

    Dear SAP experts,
We are in SRM 7.01 with backend ECC 6.05 deploying classic scenario. We are using Central Contract Management in which we negotiate contract in SRM and later distribute it to ECC. We also plan to use SRM-MDM Catalog.
We notice that if we are using classic scenaro, the contract that is used as reference is the contract number in ECC (the one distributed from SRM). So at first we assume that if we want to push the contract data to MDM, we should have pushed the ECC Contract number. However we find out that actually SAP block the ECC Contract coming as distribution from SRM to go to MDM.
Our second option is to use distribution of contract from SRM to catalog. It does using SRM contract number. We create SC and then we pull the catalog item from the catalog (which contain SRM contract number) and then we order. However we end up with 'error in process' in which the system try to create a PR instead in the ECC (meaning that the contract number cannot be read).
We're puzzled with this. How can we use the combination of central contract, MDM catalog and classic scenario? Can we use the combination?
    Best regards,
    John

    Maria
If you want the contracts to be in SRM and do not want them to send to Backend, then check this out.
Create a Vendor list for those items in SRM by assigning the local contracts to the vendors.Activate Vendor list for sourcing.
Then local contract data should pick as SOS from the vendor list.
If you can create contracts in Backend for stock material then SC would pick the backend contract as SOS in classic scenario.
Let me know if the above works or not.

  • SRM, ROS and SUS scenario question

    Hello Experts,
We are in the process of implementing MDM, ROS, EBP and SUS scenario in our present project. I went through the documentation. I have couple of questions.
    1. Do we need to have seperate clients for ROS and SUS. What is the best practise.
    2. Since we have SUS, once I transfer BP from ROS to EBP, check the portal vendor box, I would like to know how the registration code will be sent to supplier. Do we need to create the userid in EBP or with the receipt of registration code supplier will be able to create his first initial userid? Also how we can implement this with CUA and EP as part of landscape?
    3. Also since we have MDM, how the new BP information can be migrated or mapped in MDM and how new BP can be sent to backend system? I understand there is BP monitor to check and approve the changes, but how the new BP will be transferred? Do we need to develop new XI message for this? if Yes, from where that can be managed? from EBP or MDM?.
I searched through help.sap.com for any documentation but no success.
    Thanks in advance
    Vijay.

    Hi,
    1.Refer the foll thread:
Re: Supplier Registration without SUS or XI?
2.For supplier registration,SUS is not mandatory. You need to configure ROS for this scenario. The extrenal vendors will register in ROS and then be replicated to R/3.
You can use EBP only for Supplier registration.
SUS,ROS and Bidding engine make up the SRM server 5.5/EBP component of SRM 5.0.

  • A2A and B2B Scenarios

    Hello Friends,
Can any one explain what is A2A and B2B Scenarios and please explain what is asynchronous and synchronous communication.
    Thnks&Rgds,
    Dinesh

    Hi Dinesh,
    1. A2A integration involves configuring your system landscape, designing your integration scenarios, configuration of the scenarios, handling messages. In which you communicate at application level.
    2. B2B Integration
Its something in which two business are integrated like: we develop scenario like legacy system to  MDM using XI.
Now two businesses are communicating. See the link:
    http://resources.ecommercetimes.com/search/keyword/ecommercetimes/Definition%20B2B/Definition%20B2B
    3. Asynchronous communication:
Means you will send the data but no response will come from the receving end called Asynchronous communication. You will just send, disadv: your data may lost.
    4. Synchronous:
Every time sender will send the data, receiver will give a response say acknowledgement to the sender that data received.
Adv: if data is not going to receiver it can be delivered again.
