Transfer content from iPod to computer

My desktop crashed and had to be reformatted.  As a result, I've lost my iTunes Library.  Unfortunately...I didn't back it up onto disc.  I know how to transfer purchased music into the new Library, but what about all my pictures, videos and CD's?  Help!!!!!!!

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

How to transfer pictures from ipod to computer?

Hey, I've just read your answer regarding Photos folder in an G5 iPod, I hope you can help, 'cos you know it well! I imported photos from my PC to this folder, and then deleted them out. The problem occured when I realized that I might have also deleted some default running files in the Photos folder. Since then, I have met the error message "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" whenever I opened the Folder. I'm unable to import photos now. Would you possibly show me how to fix it? Thanks a lot,

See here for photos taken with the iPod: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
If these were photos that you synced to the device via iTunes, then you'll need to download third party software to help get them off your iPod.

  • How to transfer Music from iPod to Computer/Windows/Mac

I want to transfer iPod music to my mac, because iPod memory is not enought to use, whether I need a tool to help me to transfer music from iPod to my mac, because apple devices is not allowed to direct transfer music from ipod to mac, whether you have some good idea? Please help me!!!thanks!

1.The first thing you want to do is connect your iPod to your computer via the white USB cable.
2.After your iPod is connected, open My Computer, or just Computer from the start menu and look for the iPod drive. It should be in the (F:drive. You will see the iPod logo in the listing of disk drives.
3.If you are using Windows 7: Open the iPod drive and click on ORGANIZE. Then folder and search options tab. Then View and Show hidden files and folders.
If you are using Windows XP, open the iPod drive and click tools then Folder options then View tab then click show hidden files and folder. Finally click Apply.
4.Now you should have a new folder called ipod_control. Open that folder up and you should see the following: Calendar, Contacts, ipod_control, notes, photos, ect. If you are trying to save all of your music then the ipod_control folder is the only one you need to worry about.
5.Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders (should look similar to these: F00, F01 ...) onto your computer. You can do this by creating a new folder on your desktop and dragging the files into the folder.
6.Open iTunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music
You can now transfer music from your iPod to this new computer with out losing all of your music.
    Hope it can help you.

    It's not that straightforward.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Itunes deleted from computer, need to transfer songs from ipod to computer

hi, my computer recently crashed, and deleted all of my songs from itunes. they are not in itunes or my "my computer" drive. all of the songs still are, however, on my ipod. (i unfortunately did not back them up on a CD) iwhat i am wondering is how i transfer the songd from my ipod nano back onto my computer on itunes. thanks!!

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do I transfer music from ipod to computer?

I know it sounds like a ridiculously simple question, but I have music in my ipod that I would like to transfer to my computer (Windows XP) so I would be able to burn them onto a CD. How do I do that? I appreciate any help!

  • Transfer songs from Ipod to computer? Any way possible at all?

    Hi all,
I'm in a huge bind, I recently had to reformat my hard-drive and lost all of my songs, but I updated my touch before the format and now that is the only way possible to get those songs back onto my computer. • How do i transfer files FROM ipod TO computer?!?!

I had to restore windows on my comp, which meant i lost all files on my comp, an i had no backup of my music. Please tell me there is away to transfer music from my ipod to my computer

You have to hook the iPod up then choose to not sync it to your "new library". Enable iPod "disc use" in the "Preferences\iPod" menu, then navigate thru the iPods folder structure to the actual MP3s. They'll be in numbered folders, but you can cruise through them with Explorer. Copy them back to your hard drive, then tell iTunes to "Add to Library" wherever you put them.
Make sure they play first, then resync your iPod. Not sure if this will work for MP4 files (downloaded from iTunes store), but know it works for MP3s.

  • HT4527 How do I transfer songs from ipod to computer / itunes account?

I have a bunch of music on an old external HDD so I can get away from all those CDs, but recently I have changed computers and now a bunch of my songs show up as 'unable to locate'.  I want to manually manage my ipod and get the songs I have on it now in my new computer / itunes account.
    HELP!

I have exactly the same problem and have no idea how to do it. I am too scared to try random things in case I lose all 800 of my songs on my iPod!!!
I don't really know how these posts work so I'm assuming that someone will (hopefully) post the answer on here so that I can find out how to transfer my iPod songs to the library.
    Please help,
    Kate
