Transfer iPhotos between Macs computers

I would like to transfer my iPhoto photos from my Mac to my moms without losing the places or faces that I've already assigned.  How can I do that?

Just the Photos?
You'll need to use link the machines together and use  iPhoto Library Manager to move the Pics/Albums/Events plus all metadata. No other method will get the Faces.

  • I just received an OEM copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 with my Canon Pixma Pro 100 Printer.  What exactly is OEM.  Is it a full version?  Can I transfer files between different computers?

    @

OEM means "Original Equipment Manufacturer", or in your case, Canon (not Adobe) is providing the software. It is identical to what you can buy from Adobe. It is the full version (that's the only version of Lightroom that exists)
Transfer files between different computers ... this is not a function of Lightroom. Lightroom neither helps nor prevents you from transferring files from one computer to another.

  • IPhoto betweens Macs (copy posted on MobileMe thingy as well)

    Copied:
Any insights before making a feature request?
Most of my images are on a dedicated drive on Mac Pro.
MobileMe makes for lovely, superb and incredible syncing with my iPhone.
On the other hand using iPhoto on MacBook Pro allows me to "share" but I am an awkward user.
I don't want to "share" I want to sync iPhoto between Mac Pro and MacBook Pro as easily as I can sync between Mac Pro and iPhone.
    Doable?
    (or feature request?)

There're an application that will keep both of your two iPhoto libraries on the two Macs synced so they contain the same photos in each. However, both libraries must be the same version and the synced photos will not bring with them their keywords and other metadata. It's called iPhotoSync
    Here's how it works:
    1 - it compares the databases and/or album.xml files of Libraries A and B.
2 - the files in A that are not in B are imported into B by copying the original files from A into B's Import folder.
3 - it then does the same for B.
4 - metadata is not copied.
5 - it can be password protected to prevent unauthorized use.
It can be used to just copy from A to B and not sync both ways if desired.
So connect the two Macs together (best to not be wireless) and have iPhotoSync running on each.
If you want to have the metadata information included then you'll have to use iPhoto Library Manager as Terrence suggested and manually select the events or albums to move from A to B and then the same for B to A.
    Happy Holidays

  • I'm able to transfer iPhotos from Mac to MacPro but data I've added to photos does not transfer. What am I missing? Tried using Thunderbolt, AirDrop, Flash drive with no success.

I'm able to transfer iPhotos from Mac to MacPro but data I've added to photos does not transfer. What am I missing? Tried using Thunderbolt, AirDrop, Flash drive with no success. Do I have to use iCloud for 800 vacation photos or re-enter all the data after transfer?

There is no support for mirroring or syncing iPhoto libraries or Aperture libraries.  You can however export partial Aperture libraries on one mac and merge them into other libraries on a second Mac.
To transfer your edited photos open your photolibrary in Aperture and and collect the edited photos in an album. Then select the album and use the command "File export > Album as new library". This will export all edited photos as a new Aperture library. Copy this library to your other Mac and import it with "File < Import > Library to your other photolibrary on that computer (assuming you are having the same Aperture version on both macs). When merging the new library into your Aperture library, opt to keep the newer versions from the imported library.  iPhoto 9.5.1 will be able to open these merged Aperture 3.5.1 libraries.

  • How can I sync Mail database between MAC computers without using IMAP

All, I know this has been asked several times in several forums but I wish to ask it again with a slight twist. The normal question is can I sync  Apple mail database (folders) between two MAC computers. The answer is always use IMAP, but unfortunately IMAP is limited on space to store historical emails. I keep mailboxes (on_my_mac) with thousands of emails and attachments that take up a massive amount of space, well beyond any IMAP server allowances. I keep these in order to search conversations that span over many months and sometimes years.
I use GoodSync to sync my normal folders from my MAC Book Pro and my Mac Pro desktop so that I can have the same information (in real time) when working from home on my big machine or at the office using the laptop. This is great except I can not sync the email. I use Outlook 2011 but would prefer to use apple mail if I can sync the two computers (Sync'ing Outlook 2011 is even more impossible).
I also do not want to start and stop my email clients to make this happen and worry about which MAC is running mail and what direction to copy the entire folder structure just to have to follow that up with a new re-build of the index.
Has anyone came up with a viable solution this this problem. Also keep in mind the amount of data - Cloud based solutions are dependent on Internet connection speed (days of initial transfer time and hours to sync) and if I am on my laptop without internet connection, say on an airplane, I would be out of luck so I need the information local on each computer.
Hopefully someone has some ideas, or maybe Apple can take a request for enhancement to Mail to support syncing multiple computers.

I assume that this is a POP system then.
There is no reliable method of syncing the Mail database between 2 Macs. Just how many Gigabytes of Mail do you have?

  • Transfer iPhoto between Macbook and iMac

I just managed to transfer my iPhoto contents from MacBook to iMac and thought I would share this.
I needed to do this because my Macbook hard drive is full and I have plenty of space on my iMac.
Connect MacBook and iMac with Ethernet network cable (I found this the fastest way but you may connect via your home network wifi connection as well)
In MacBook, Open Finder and on the left pane under Shared, click on your iMac.
show items as Columns by clicking on third icon on the top pane.
Make a folder somewhere on your iMac by right clicking on white space. (I made a folder under Pictures)
Click on this new folder (which should be second column in the view) and third column will be empty as there are no items in this new folder.
In MacBook, Open iPhoto application, on the left pane click on Photos which will show all your photos in the view.
Now adjust the size of this iPhoto window and above Finder window so you can see them next to each other.
To test, just drag one or two photos from iPhoto window to Finder window in the third column (which is empty as there are no items in this new folder)
If successful, drag other Photos or Videos as required and test by opening this new folder on your iMac. that's it. hope this helps.

I'm afraid your explanation of what you've done is not clear.
Did you copy the Library from one machine to the other?
    or
Did you back up the Library to another Library?
    The distinction is important:
In your title you ask about
synchronize iphoto between MacBook and iMac...
If you mean one direction copying - that is, backing up Library A to Library B, then you'll have no problems.
However, if you try +bi-directional copying+ - that is changes in Library A reflected in Library B and changes in Library B also reflected in Library B you will corrupt one or both Libraries. No syncing software can parse the Library database to do bi-directional copying.
Is there something not working if you have the iPhoto library stored as a folder instead of a package?
    No.
Isn't it easier to have the iPhoto library as a folder instead of a package to synchronize it with another Mac using rsync?
iPhoto is a consumer application designed to be manipulated in the GUI.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is a Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
So, by running it as a Folder you facilitate this.

  • How to share/transfer files between household computers?

My wife and I would like to share photos, documents, music, etc. between our computers in the home.  Is there an easy way to do this using Time Machine?  Is it possible to just copy & paste (or drag & drop) a file from one computer to another?
This is a simple question, I think.  I just don't know how to do it.  THANK YOU.

Not with Time Machine. Use File Sharing and Home Sharing. Select Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "sharing."
iTunes- Setting up Home Sharing on your computer

  • Slow transfer speeds between Mac Pro and Shared Drive on Windows Domain

    Hi Guys,
Getting really slow transfer speeds when I try and transfer a file from a Mac Pro to a shared network drive on one of our Windows 2003 Servers.
The Mac Pro is logged on to windows domain. This data is transferring via our hard network, not via wireless. Not having any other transfer speed issues on any other PC's.
For example an 8mb file took around 45 mins.
Hope you can help. Many Thanks.

I saw this at a site where they were using DFS with Server 2003. When the few Mac's they had connected to the actual server and uploaded the file it was okay. But when it was sending the file via the \\DFS_node\share_name the Mac took heaps longer for the same file. Watching the Activity Monitor > Network monitor you could see gaps with the data transfer, as if there was some pausing between packets. A pcap showed that there was constant DNS requests coming from the Mac, even after the connection to the share was made. The same wasn't happening when the connection via SMB was directly to the actual file server. As there was only a few Mac on site they left it with the direct connection but were getting an MS specialist in to look at it. Never heard what happened with that one but you may want to try monitoring the packet transfer to see if the data movement is contstant or breaking. I'd also recommend getting Wireshark to monitor the transfer. You can compare upload to download and maybe even the transfer from the Mac to an MS workgroup share.

  • How to sync iPhoto between Mac machines?

I have an iMac 27" and a MacBook Air.
I am wondering if there is a way to sync all the photo in iPhoto between my iMac 27" and MacBook Air?
    Please give me a tip...!
    Thank you!

I just got back from vacation in Spain, and I had brought my camera and my Macbook Pro with me.  But I keep most of my photos on my Mac mini at home.
SyncPhotos worked beautifully.  I installed it on both my laptop and my home mac, waited a little while for it to index/find all my photos, and then used the manual sync feature to move all the photos over to my home Mac.
Because of the smaller HD size in the Macbook I prefer to keep photos on my home Mac only.  But sometimes I want to sync my camera or my phone/iPad to my Macbook.  Now with SyncPhotos I can do both.

  • Slow Data Transfer Speeds Between Macs.

    Hello Can anyone please help?
When I transfer data between my MacBook and iMac it is taking ages and never used to be this slow a couple of months ago.
A 1 GB file is taking 2 hours. I am using an Airport Extreme 802.11n router on 5GHZ Wide Channel and when I check my connection using Network Utility it says 270 MBit/s.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Shaun

I am having a very similar issue. I am copying iTunes music to a USB flash drive formatted to FAT32.  It is very slow - not as slow as you have indicated, but still very slow. Someone mentioned it could be Spotlight indexing the USB drive. I am going to turn indexing off and try again - although it is taking a long time just to stop the current copy that I had in progress.

  • Transfer files between macs

What's the best way to transfer files between an iBook G4 and iMac on my home network?  TIA for your assistance.
    Mike

    'Best"? in what way?
Do you want the fastest? easiest? cheapest?
Is this a one-time thing? or something you expect to do frequently/repeatedly?
How much data are we talking about? kilobytes? megabytes? gigabytes?
In all honesty the easiest way is via a USB drive - stick it in the iBook, copy the files to it, remove and insert in the iMac. Done.
Maybe easier than that is to boot the iBook in Target Disk Mode and attach it to the iMac via a FireWire cable (assuming your iMac has FireWire ports - you don't way which model you have). In this way the iBook will just mount on the iMac's desktop and you can copy the files at will.
Stepping up the complexity chain a little you could enable file sharing on the iBook and mount its disk over the network on the iMac (or vice versa). This is probably the slowest option but that might not matter if you only have a small amount of data to transfer.
    There are other ways, too.

  • Very slow transfer speed between 2 computers in the same network

    I recently bought a new laptop (Lenove G510) with win 8.1 pre-installed.
When i download files of the internet, my speed is ok, for wireless, but when tranfering files between computers (The other computer is a win 7), the transfer speed is really slow (2-4 MB/s). The transfers takes forever, and are relly unstable. It bounces from 1 - 4 Mb/s all the time and will not stabilize.
The same applys when streaming to other devices (Media Center). The video being streamd will just go frame by frame, and it is no fun watching...
Why is my transfer speed in local networsk so slow?? How can i fix this?
I use AVG Anitvirus, and I have tried disabeling it before transer, whitout results...
I have also updated BIOS, Chipset and the driver for the wireless network card...
I can also mention that when I turn my computer on, the internet connection is lost to all other devices... I then need to reset the router, and then the connection is fine again. This was never a problem before I got Windows 8.1, and is not a problem while the computer is turned of.
In advanced, thansk for any replys/tips
    Regars, Morten

  • Rad and write iPhotos between 2 computers

Can I read and then write photos from iPhoto from a desktop iMac to a MacBook Pro laptop?  If so, how?

There's also an application that can make sure both libraries contain the same photos. It named  SyncPhotos.
    Here's how it works:
    1 - it compares the databases and/or album.xml files of Libraries A and B.
2 - the files in A that are not in B are imported into B by copying the original files from A into B's Import folder.
3 - it then does the same for B.
4 - metadata, keywords, titles, comments, etc., is not copied.
It can be used to just copy from A to B and not sync both ways if desired. It will work with 2 libraries that are different versions, i.e. between an iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09 library.  It's pretty much automatic after you get both computers connected and setup.
