Transfer of applecare and ownership

hello, i just sold my emac on ebay. the question i have is how do i go about transfering ownership of the applecare agreement and, what should i do to the computer before i box it up and ship it, software wise?

Hello Eddie!
Software wise, before you ship out the eMac I would completely Zero out the HD so none of you information is able to be viewed to new owner. To do this:
1. Insert your Mac OS X CD or DVD.
2. Reboot eMac while holding down "C" key.
3. When CD is finished booting, go up to the options menu (Don't install OS even though it will be shown on screen) and select Disk Utility.
4. At the top of the Disk Utility window, there should be an option that allows you to "Zero Out" your HD. You can select a 7-way pass or 35-way pass (latter will take awhile to complete; 7-way is usually sufficient).
5. When that is complete, exit out of Disk Utility and procede to install Mac OS X on your eMac.
If you have any more questions, don't be hesitant to ask!

As this is a WW forum with different AppleCrare offerings you need to specify which Country
as in North America has AppleCare+ and everywhere else AppleCare ,very different products
So to avoid incorrect guidance suggest you specify Country

  • Applecare and Macbook

Hey, so I purchased the apple care for my computer and I had a question that I had in mind..
When I bought an ipod nano around 3 years ago, I had it under applecare and it broke about 1 year and a half after, and what they did for me was "upgrade" me to the newest one they had with the same gigabites for free. I'm now wondering if in lets say... 2 and a half years, if my computer breaks (God forbid), if I could "upgrade" to a newer model of the same computer? I'm guessing apple will have two more WWDCS and macworlds by then.. I'm also wondering if they weren't going to upgrade it for free, if I could pay a couple hundred dollars to upgrade? Thanks so much!!

AppleCare cannot be renewed. The maximum you can get under AppleCare is 3 years (1 complimentary year and 2 AppleCare years. As far as I know, they do not offer loaner machines during repair.
For additional coverage, you can check your home insurance company. Often they have options in case of damage, theft or other loss. There may also be other companies out there you can buy coverage from, but I've not heard/used any.
If you are under warranty and your repair is covered under your agreement terms, then at Apple's discretion, they can repair or replace that computer. If they choose to replace it, and your model is no longer made, they will give you a comparable one of like value, and that can include new models, depending on how old yours is.
Now, I'm not sure if you get a refurb model, but if you have AppleCare left on your old machine, it will transfer to your new machine, Apple would update your agreement.
AppleCare is a really great plain. It can seem a bit pricey at first, especially for MBP, but I've never been turned away by Apple and they never said they won't fix it because... Every Mac I own I never go without AppleCare. Also, I always sell my Macs about 3 months before AppleCare expires, so the new owner will get a machine covered for that time and know that if anything "goes" they can have it repaired free of charge.
If you resell your machine w/AppleCare within say 2 years of purchase, depending on how good a condition you kept it, the resale value is quite good, certainly much better than any other PC out there. PCs depreciate at a much faster rate than Macs.

  • How to solve a engagement made by a store manager not respected by Applecare about transfer of Applecare plan

Hello, can someone advise me. I bought a new MacBook Pro since my former one (brand new) has been stolen. In the shop, the manager did call AppleCare and did promise me that I could transfer my AppleCare plan from the stolen MacBook to the new One. But even by providing that strong commitment, AplleCare refused strongly to switch the plan, after my purchase. So, I did call the store again, but the manager was not reachable, and the colleague told me that saturday was not an easy day to allow the store and AppleCare to communicate togother!!! Do you know if there is a customer protection policy at apple? The store people were very nice, but there is obviously a serious distorsion between AppleCare and the commitment of the store manager.

I think that you were misinformed. I am not familiar with being able to move an extended warranty from a stolen device to a new device as an Apple policy. However, if you wish to pursue this, call the Apple Care phone number for your location and ask that the call be escalated to Customer Relations.

  • Transfer of AppleCare Protection plan - possible?

I bought the iPhone EDGE soon after it was released.
I then got the AppleCare Protection plan, which essentially adds one more year to the existing 1-year you get with the iPhone.
I just bought the 3G iphone, the EDGE is in the box, and will probably just sit there forever.
The "first" year hasn't even expired yet from the EDGE.
Can I transfer my AppleCare Protection Plan over to my new 3G, to extend it one year?
It makes no sense to buy another plan - because again, the EDGE first year hasn't elapsed yet.
    Can someone chime in...
    THANKS

You can go type Applecare transfer into the search bar on Apple.com and find out all about it.
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/applecareiphone.html
It looks like it will transfer to a new owner, but not a new iphone - but I didn't read it all.

  • Need advise how to transfer my AppleCare to another Apple id?

    Hi all,
pls advise on how I can transfer my Applecare to another Apple id?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you mean by "transfer AppleCare to another Apple ID". Can you please explain further. Have you sold a device covered by AppleCare and wish to transfer the plan to the new owner? Or what, exactly, do you wish to accomplish?
    Regards.

The hard disc of my laptop has crashed and i lost all the data. Now I want to take back up of my I phone and transfer contacts , messages and music etc back into my laptop , how can I do that. Also let me know how I can transfer the contacts into Windows contacts from I phone. Pl help

Your content will only be where you put it.  It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone: File>Device>Transfer purchases.
You can import your pics taken with the iphone as you would with any digital camera.
You can e-mail the other pics to yourself, they will never be of the original quality.
You can out a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer.  You should get the option to merge the data when you sync.

  • Open/Transfer/close Dataset and delimiting

Hi people hi have a situation regarding open/transfer/close dataset and delimits.
I have a submit program that calls any other via variants. It works fine with using list_to_memory, convert to ascii, and open dataset. I can download the report in excel format to an application server.
Problem is that the reports arent delimited properly in the excel report. Usually there is a vertial line "|" placed after each column and it would be eazy to mauiplate it during viewing the actual file.
However I want this done automatically. My question is, is there a way to delimit the list before/during using open/transfer/close dataset?
My solution before was to convert the vertical lines to a comma and just save the file as a CSV file. Problem here is the data could be affected as comma is being used normally. So the excel report would get messed up.
Hope I get some help soon. Thanks guys and good day.

Lets say you have fields A, B, C and D to be transfered to the dataset. You can use the below logic.
    concatenate a b c d into l_text separated by '$'.
    transfer l_text to dsn.
Now, when you open the text file in excel it would ask you whether the file is delimeted or fixed width...if you select delimited..in the next screen you would be able to select the delimiter.

  • Transfer Open items and balance of one GL to new GL Account.

    Hi,
I have an account which has around 10000 postings in it.However this account is not open item managed.I want to switch to Open Item Management for this account, but SAP does not allow as there are postings made to it.
I searched forum for solution on the same, and I got to know to transfer the postings and balances to new account.
The problem I have is I want all open items to be present in the new GL I create. With f-04(transfer posting with clearing) I will have to transfer each and every posting individually. As I said there are almost 10000 entries in this account. Is there any way I can transfer all open items and balance at once in the new GL?
    Pls guide

If you want to transfer all the items to the new gl, you have to transfer it manually or use a LSMW or BDC to transfer the open items

  • How to transfer my mail and contacts to my new iMac???

I recently upgraded from a power pc Mac Mini, to the 20 inch iMac. I used the Target disk mode to transfer my pictures and some other stuff...BUT i really couldn't see how I would transfer any mail that was still in my mailbox on my old computer to my new one. and what about the Address book. I actually dragged it to the desktop of the iMac, but not sure what to do with it from there. Is it the same version as the one in Leopard? or if I open it will I mess up something in my new program? As you can see, I'm not too good at this!
    Thanks for your help.
    Christine

    chrstene,
The folder you want are in your old user folder on your old computer.
You can still use the migration assistant but do it manually. Connect via the Firewire Target Disk Mode and you will see the HD on your desktop... Open it up...
The folders you want are inside your home folder, Library folder...
    1. Take the entire Mail folder
    2. Take the entire Safari folder if you want all your old bookmarks, etc...
    3. For the Address Book, open up the Application Support folder and drag over the entire Address Book folder...
Make sure you put them back in the same location on the new computer....

  • How can I transfer some books and music from one ipad to another without having to sync and erase the lot?

I am trying to transfer some music and books from my ipad to my mothers ipad.   I am using a laptop that I have had to install itunes onto.  When I sselect the music I want to put onto my mothers ipad I get the message 'are you sure want to sync this ipad to this computer as it will erase all date on the ipad and replace it with this'...well something to that effect anyway.
When I plug my ipad into it it also states that syncing will erase all data and replace it with what is on itunes as my ipad is linked to another computer (im in Hobart and my usual computer is in brisbane)
Is there a simple way for me to add music and books on a usb stick to mothers ipad without having to lose everything taht she currently has on there?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated
    Cheers

Backup with this User Tip, restore the library to the new computer using the same tool, keep the backup up-to-date in future. Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer need to access protected content on it.
As to your issues with compilations albums select all the tracks, set the Album Artist to Various Artists and on the options tab set Part of a compilation to Yes. See Grouping tracks into albums for details.

  • I have a mid year 2007 24 inch iMac and will be purchasing a new 27 inch Retina iMac, what is the easiest way to transfer the data and files from my old machine to the new one?

I have a mid year 2007 24 inch iMac and will be purchasing a new 27 inch Retina iMac, what is the easiest way to transfer the data and files from my old machine to the new one?

    Following up on this thread,
I have a new iMac on the way and my current is from 2008, never had a problem but I am sure there are internal issues that I would prefer not to transfer.
I have no issues other then the slowness in certain programs and that is the main reason to buy a new one.
Programs like numbers and pages seem to take a longer time to open after I update to Yosemite.
I only use 272GB of 500 GB, my memory is 4GB and I am upgrading to 8Gb and bought the 4.0 processor.
    Question:
Is there a way to manually transfer items or would that be a waste of time in that if there are issues they could be anywhere and would transfer anyway?

  • How do I transfer all music and videos from one computer to another?

I need to transfer my music and videos that are in itunes from my laptop to my new desktop, and I dont want to lose anything because when I update my ipod it will be takin off, right? Please tell me how I go about doing this, thanks a bunch!!

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the to computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. You can also use your iPod as a hard drive and move the folder with it though that would be considerably slower than computer to computer. Here are a few links that may help you out:

This article describes moving your music to another drive on the same computer but could be adapted to moving between networked computers: Moving your iTunes Music Folder
Also If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to iTunes on a different computer. Change the setting before connecting it to your new PC:

Hello, thank you for your prompt answer. I did have an idea that Home sharing might be the answer but could not quite figure out how to do it. I have enabled home sharing in my iTunes account, put in username and password, clicked on creat etc. But the homs sharing icon doew not appear in the left side of iTunes. So I got stuck. Any further ideas?
