Transfering/downloading photos and music

Hi there every one could some one please help me, how can i transfer/download photos/videos or music from my external hard drive to my I Pad.

You need to import them to iTunes and then sync them from iTunes to your iPad
These support pages should help:

AppleTV was not designed as backup/storage and there's no simple way to recover photos.
DO NOT sync with a new iTunes library or the photos/music will be wiped.
You either need to apply some form of 3rd party hack to enable additional features on AppleTV 1 including network file transfer, but this relies on use of the command line in most cases. You may not be familiar with that. Google relevant terms as we cannot really provide details.
Second option is to dismantle AppleTV, remove the drive and connect to a Mac using a PATA 2.5" drive caddy. Google would help you here. Files however will not have their original names.
I always maintained that I felt there should have been some kind of data recovery option as this kind of thing happened every day or so to someone.
This kind of thing shows the importance of having backups, and preferably with a backup offsite too in case the backup was stolen or destroyed. I had a hard drive failure some years ago and lost photos as I'd not done a backup for a few weeks. Some people are more organised than others with backups, but with Time Machine it's fairly straightforward for most, though it's perhaps a little frustrating you can't backup FileVault encrypted accounts whilst logged in, if you're in the habit of leaving a computer logged in for days on end!
If your music was from iTunes store you could try explaining the issue, and they might at their discretion offer a redownload of previous purchases that are still on catalogue. If you ripped them from CD you could do this again.

Since I am impatient and can't wait for 90 minutes for an answer, I have decided to lose everything on my iPod and try to remember all the songs I had on them. But if anyone can help me prevent this in the future, that woud be great!

  • Transfering Photos and music between computers

I original purchased a macnotebook and now have an Ipad and Imac. I had thought cloud would allow me to share my photos and music at home between devices? I can't seem to get my Imac and Notebooks to share wirelessley? Could anyone give me any tips on how to get them linked up?
    Thanks. Nick

You might want to explore the concept of "build and export cache" in tools/cache.  Not all data is written to the file, some is held in an XMP file, which has same name as file.  You want them both to transfer at same time.
To see if you have XMP files click on view/show hidden files.
    Don't know much about collections.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • TS4036 how do i backup photos and music from my computer to icloud

How do I backup photos and music to icloud to download to my iphone4s or ipad.  Not having any luck transferring by direct connect

You can redownload music purchased from iTunes as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.  Music from other sources can only be accessed from iCloud if you subscribe to iTunes Match.
Photos can be transferred by putting them in a folder, then selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  Or, you can transfer them over wifi by using an app like PhotoSync.  To stream them with iCloud, you have to set up iCloud on your computer as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html, enable photo stream, then add photos as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2606.

  • How can I transfer my photos and music from my iphone 4 to my new iphone6

How can I transfer my photos and music from my IPhone 4 to my IPhone 6 ?

if the music was downloaded via iTunes you will be able to access it from iCloud when you set up the new device. other music that was synced to the iPhone would need to be synced to the new iPhone from the computer that you used to sync the iPhone 4.
photos can be transferred via the following method.
plug iPhone 4 into iTunes on computer. select back up to computer.
Plug in the iPhone 6 and press restore. when setting up the iPhone press restore from iTunes. plug into computer and a complete copy of the iPhone 4 will be put onto the iPhone 6. except for the music...(you will have to download your apps again from App Store but you can find them all under the purchased tab on App Store. you won't have to pay for the apps again)
please note this will delete the current memory on iPhone 6

I have iTunes on my iPad. I have a new iPod nano. How do I connect iPod to iPad to download iTunes and music library?

    Hi Divine Inspiration,
You wouldn't connect the iPod to the iPad for data transfers. Music is stored and shared either through a computer or iCloud.

  • I have OS10.5 and an iPhone5 how do I get my apps, photos and music?

I have an Intel iMac core duo with OS10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.1.  I have a 3GS which I recently upgraded to an iPhone5.  I sync my 3GS and headed to the store to pick up my new phone. The AT&T guy hands me instructions which says I need to update my 3GS (iOS5) device before syncing the new iPhone5 (iOS6). iTunes would not let me update beyond 10.6.1.  Apple, true to its word, I rec'd iOS update on Sep. 21st. So I turned on wifi and update my 3GS to iOS6.  OK now my itunes does not recognize either phone because they are both iOS6.  I never thought for a moment iTunes would not recognize my devices.  Now I'm perplexed.  I'm worried the answer is going to cost me more money.
I do have a wintel XP at my disposal which just downloaded iTunes7 onto, but of course, I have no previous backup stored.  I can't figure out how to get my apps, photos and music onto my new iPhone.   so, when I try to restore, it displays message that if I want to do this it will erase everything on my 3GS.  Funny how itunes 7 is compatible with XP but not Leopard, but that is another discussion.

Upgrade iTunes on the Mac and the OS if required so that you have the correct version for syncing with iOS6.
Alternatively, you can copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the Mac to the PC and then you should be able to sync to the PC without issues.
You'll still need to create a backup on the PC to restore back to the iPhone5.
You can also try backing up the 3GS to iCloud and restoring the iPhone5 from that backup, but that will not restore or sync any media.

  • How do I get my photos and music back into new version iTunes from my iPad?

I have the new version of iTunes (11 0 2 26) for Windows which installed over my old copy. I see none of my music etc even after it claims to have synced and backed up. How do I get my photos and music back into iTunes from my iPad? It syncs OK with calendar and contacts from Outlook and I can force copying of apps and books but why does it not show music and photos in the iTunes library? help please.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • So many problems... My MacBook Pro is full and I'm terrified I'm going to lose all of my photos and music.

Where to even begin with the problames I'm having!?  I have a MacBook Pro  OS X 10.5.8, an iMac OS X 10.5.8, a 500GB Time Capsule, and an iPhone 4s. I know just enough about all of them to basically get myself into trouble... And It seems I have done a really good job at messing everything up!
I bought the iMac and Time capsule together in 2008.  The Time Capsule didn't work properly for backups from the start (although it functions great as a router for my home network), and I spent several hours on the phone with applecare, took it to the Genius Bar etc., and it still has not ever worked as a continuous background backup.  I did somehow manage to acquire one backup of the iMac with the TC before I did a reboot of the iMac a couple years ago.  I can access the backup, but im not sure if the backup is actually on the time capsule or if it is saved on the HD.  Furthermore, I have another backup (pretty sure it's a partial backup) from the MacBook Pro, and I don't know where that one is actually stored either. The Macbook Pro is so full that it is not functioning properly and i'm afraid it will die.  I have subscribed to both Backblaze and Crashplan... The initial Backblaze backup completed on the MacBook, but I don't even have enough diskspace to download Crashplan.  I need to get both Macs backed up to an external hard drive  and I would like to save the backups I already have.  I am also trying to start my own photograghy business, so I would like everything setup so that I can manage photos from both Macs and be condusive for storing and editing loads of photos. So here are my questions...
    1. Can I (and should I) back up both Macs to one external hard drive?
    2. Can I use the Time Capsule to route wireless continuous backups from the MacBook Pro to the external hard drive or would I need to have it wired every time?
    3. Which external hard drive would be best for my situation?  Would a RAID be best or is that overkill?
I am considering this one in either a 2TB or 3TB:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
    4. Once everything is safely backed up, what is the best way to get my HD space freed up?
    5. How do I set up the drives so that I'm not using all of my internal HD space for photos and music?
    6. When I have enough space to upgrade to OS X Lion, will the cloud make a difference with how my photos are managed?
I know this has been extensive, and probably frustrating to those of you who know what your'e doing... Thanks so much for your time and patience!!

    1. Can I (and should I) back up both Macs to one external hard drive?
You can (if it's large enough), but see below.  You should probably create a second partition on the drive for the second Mac. You can also back them both up to the TC.
    2. Can I use the Time Capsule to route wireless continuous backups from the MacBook Pro to the external hard drive or would I need to have it wired every time?
    There are several options:
Since you have an iMac, by far the fastest, easiest, and most reliable way to back it up is to connect an external HD directly to it.
It's slower, but you can also back it up to the TC.
The laptop can be backed-up to the same drive as the one connected to the iMac, over your network.
Finally, although I wouldn't recommend it in this case, you could back up either or both to an external HD connected to the TC.
    3. Which external hard drive would be best for my situation?
Most likely, a good quality external HD. If you're going to use Time Machine, see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #1 to be sure you get one large enough.
Would a RAID be best or is that overkill?
In most cases, overkill.  For redundancy, duplicate backups made on a separate HD, with a different app, is a bit safer than a RAID.  See FAQ #27 for some suggestions.
I am considering this one in either a 2TB or 3TB:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
That link doesn't work for me -- it redirects to the main page.  I have one of their Mercury Elite Pro multi-interface drives, and it works fine.  Most anything they sell will be fine, as long as it's large enough.
    4. Once everything is safely backed up, what is the best way to get my HD space freed up?
Even before you do that, check for hidden large stuff on your Mac that you don't need.  See Where did my Disk Space go?  There may be some things there that will gain you a few GBs, at least.
Also, obviously, delete anything you don't need, especially video, photos, music.
Do you have duplicates of the same files on both Macs?  If so, deleting one might save a lot of space.
Then, you need to consider where you're going in the future.  Backups alone won't gain you any space -- the essential part of a good backup strategy is to have (at least) two copies of everything important in (at least) two different places.
So most likely, you need to move some big stuff, such as your iPhoto and/or iTunes libraries, or a large video collection, onto a different external HD, and let Time Machine (and/or other backup app) back it up along with your Macs.
    5. How do I set up the drives so that I'm not using all of my internal HD space for photos and music?
Be sure to format them for a Mac (most come pre-formatted for Windoze).  See #1 in Using Disk Utility.
Depending on what kind of data you want to move, you can just drag and drop, then delete.
    And/or see:
    Moving your iTunes Music folder
    Moving your iPhoto '11 Library
Moving iMovie '11 footage to another drive
    6. When I have enough space to upgrade to OS X Lion, will the cloud make a difference with how my photos are managed?
    I don't think so.
What's on your TC now?  Anything?   If not, you might want to erase it and start backing up immediately, so you have at least some protection until you get the external HD(s).   See To erase everything on the TC's internal disk in #Q5 of Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
Then see #Q1 there for setup instructions.  If there's a problem, post back with details, or check Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Also don't hesitate to post back if this isn't clear, or you still have questions.

  • Migration assistant with photos and music on an external drive

I have an I 7 ready to turn on, I will be transferring from a mac mini. I have 100 gigs of msic and about 80 gigs of photos that my mini access for I tunes and i photo. Will the migration assistant copy the photos and music from the external hard drive? My guess is it will but I wanted to hear it from someone else.
    Thank you
    Joe

I just move my iphoto's from a iMac to a Mini. I just used the import in the iphoto application, and it worked fine. I found migration to much work to use. Still have not moved itunes yet, but it doesn't have the import like iphoto, has export, so have not looked into the move yet.

  • Can I use my iPod to move photos and music from one computer to another?

    Hi,
Is it possible to have photos and music on my iPod from one computer, and then copy those from my iPod to another computer? (like with an ordinary USB-unit)
And another question: Is it possible to download movies onto my iPod? If yes, how? (owner of an iPod 30GB)
    Thanks!

Did you set it to copy full-resolution photos??? If so, enable your iPod for disk use, open my computer, click on your iPod, and open the pictures folder. You can just drag them from there. If you didn't, use a program such a CopyPod Photo (google it) to copy photos from your iPod. Note that the files will only be the same resolution as your iPod screen (320x240) and not worth using for anything else. If you want to use it for sharing, definitely go with the full-res option. It is at the bottom of the photos pane in the iPod screen in iTunes.
