Transferring LP's to a computer (iMac G4)

Does anyone know how to do this? Are instructions available anywhere?
I have a computer and a turntable and a long cord, but so far no luck.

You can run your signal into the computer's line in and record directly onto GarageBand. (assuming you have the preamp - ie you need a real audio signal as would come from a tape deck or CD player. I haven't tried it myself, though; maybe the volume control in GarageBand can boost the signal sufficiently?) The best option is to create a "new basic track" which will have no processing effects. Then you can edit and clip or whatever and export to iTunes. The resulting file will be a large aiff that you have to name of course, but once in iTunes it can be converted to any format (mp3, etc). Its not the best solution and you can't fix popping or anything, but its cheap and you don't have to go software shopping.
