Transferring My Contacts to iMac

I did my move from Windows Vista to Mac 10 days. I have my iPhone contacts (about 400) sync'd with Outlook and I would like to sync them with whatever is the best in my new iMac. I am new to Mac so I am not familiar yet with the applications I got with my computer. I installed Office for Mac Student and Home edition but it does not have anything like Outlook.
What will it be the best way to transfer all my contacts to Mac so I can syn my iPhone without loosing any information?

I was referring to this copied from your original post.
All my contacts got deleted by mistake from my imac during a sync with .mac.
Were the contacts deleted from your .Mac online address book also - in addition to being lost with the Address Book application on your Mac? If not lost with your .Mac online address book, you can recover your contacts lost with the Address Book application on your Mac.
If you had a backup copy of your Address Book contacts on your Mac - using the Address Book backup feature, why did you need to re-enter all contacts?
Out of interest if i got a new computer how do I transfer contacts from the iphone to it ?
You have plenty of options. If you purchase a new Mac, all new Macs include a Migration Assistant to migrate data from an existing Mac to the new Mac.
If you have a .Mac account and keep your contacts synced with your .Mac online address book, you can transfer your .Mac online address book contacts to the Address Book application on your new Mac.
The Address Book application on a Mac includes a simple backup Address Book feature. The address book backup file on one Mac can be used to import the contacts with the Address Book on another Mac - and the same for iCal calendars.
All Address Book contacts can be exported as an individual vCard file for each contact which can be imported into the Address Book on a new Mac.
The iPhone sync process for contact information, calendar events and bookmarks is a bidirectional sync process. Although something went wrong with this process with your iPhone, this is the exception rather than the rule. You can sync your iPhone with a new Mac for this data - as long as at least one contact is entered in the Address Book application and one calendar event entered in iCal on the new Mac.

Hook the phone to the computer, open the Computer icon and look for the iPhone folder. Copy the images. Not difficult at all. Sync your contacts with Outlook through iTunes. Not really so difficult.

In Contacts, I don't have any duplicates, but in iMessage contacts on iMac in Mountain Lion, the contacts it provides for a new message are all doubles. Why and how can I fix?
I also notice that each contact says iCloud in it twice, but when I go to iCloud.com, there are no duplicates either. Help..

    mdd770,
    Try Contacts>Preferences...>Accounts...remove {-}/re-add {+}your iCloud account.
If that is not successful, follow the steps listed in iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Contacts.

    Hello Tehuti2,
There are a few ways to transfer contacts from your computer to your iPhone.  I found an article that provides steps on how to import a vCard to iCloud.com:
    iCloud: Import a vCard

If your PC fits the following specifications, you can setup iCloud to automatically sync contacts with your iPhone:
    Microsoft Windows 7 or 8
iCloud Control Panel 2.1.2 or later
iTunes 11 or later (for iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match)
    Outlook 2007 or 2010 or iCloud.com
Safari 5.1.7 or later or Internet Explorer 9 or later (for iCloud.com and Bookmarks), Firefox 16 or later or Chrome 23 or later (for iCloud.com)

    I hope this helps!

  • Can Airdrop move Contacts from iMac to MacBook Air?

Can Airdrop move Contacts from iMac to MacBook Air?

Yes and no. AirDrop is used to send a file from one computer to another. A Contact isn't a file so AirDrop isn't the best way to move contacts from one computer to another. If you own both an iMac and MBA and want to keep the two computers synced, the easiest way is to create an iCloud account on both computers. Any calendar event, to do, contact, or note you create on one will sync to the other. If you just bought a MBA and want to move data to it from your iMac you should use Apple's migration assistant. Personally I think the easiest way to migrate is to perform a backup of the old computer to a USB external drive using TimeMachine and then connect the TimeMachine to the new computer and use Migration Assistant.
But can you exchange contacts using AirDrop? Yes. Select the contact(s) you want to transfer, export them as vcards to a temporary folder. Then AirDrop the folder to your MBA. Now run Contacts and then drag the vcards onto the Contacts program icon in the Dock.

I am not able to open contacts on iMac osx maverick.

Hmm, have you tried restarting it? if so< try holding down shift while you turn the computer on untill the gray loading bar appears. this is safe mode. When it loads try to run it from there. If it does not open, you have to test it in a new user. If it still does not work there it is a system wide issue and must be reinstalled. *not erase and reinstall*

  • I lost contacts on iMac. I still have them on iPhone4 and/of iPad. How do I restore them on my iMac?

I lost contacts on iMac. I still have them on iPhone4 and/of iPad. How do I restore them on my iMac? I think I also have everything in the iCloud, but I am afraid that after syncing tonight I have lost everything.... I want to restore on my iMac....HELP!

Download the free app My Contacts Backup to your phone.   This will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email.  Send this email to yourself, open it on your iMac and double-click the attachment to import the contacts into Address Book.

After transferring my contacts to my iPhone, I can no longer send or receive text messages from some of them. Even if they text me, I cannot send a reply!

Same problem persists also here. Have crosschecked with friend, all same settings, have deleted the contacted, created again, still that number does not receive my SMS (no question on iMessage). Can not even reply her message. This problem persists with few numbers, nothing common, different phones, different countries, different operators. All others, with different operators, in different coutries receive my messages. Even other people can send their SMS to her.

  • I am transferring from a desktop iMac to a MacBook Pro.

I am transferring from a desktop iMac to a MacBook Pro.  We transferred all the data from the desktop to a second log in, and now I want to move all of my email accounts from the second log in to the first log in.  I went into the Apple store to get help, but that was hours ago, and it's still working on it.  Is it possible it will take hours to transfer 60,000 emails?  It appears to be downloading them from the server multiple times, because I have deleted some and they pop back up again and I have have marked them all read, and now a LOT of them are marked unread.  I use a gmail account.  Can you shed some light here, or do i have to go back to the Genius Bar?

We transferred all the data from the desktop to a second log in, and now I want to move all of my email accounts from the second log in to the first log in.
Can you explain this further. To another user account on your iMac? Or to your new Macbook?
Is it possible it will take hours to transfer 60,000 emails?
Yes. If you open the activity monitor in mail you can see this process occuring. "Updating cache directory, indexing, etc.).
From the menu bar Window > Activity
"It appears to be downloading them from the server multiple times, because I have deleted some and they pop back up again and I have have marked them all read, and now a LOT of them are marked unread.  I use a gmail account."
Is the problem of unreads showing back up when you mark as unread on one computer and check the other, or is it on your new macbook pro.
