Transform/Distort jumping marquee

Mac 10.4.11 Photoshop CS4. When I use the Transform>Distort tool (usually zoomed into a corner section) and try to make small adjustments as I have been doing for years smoothly, it now jumps around. If I want to square up a digital camera image of a painting that has minor distortions, I set guides all around and use this method to to drag into a squared format. Now, the dragging of the point on the corner marquee jumps back and forth making it very difficult to accurately place the new position of the point. I have checked to see if Snap is on etc. but am coming up with nothing.

There's the Free Transform Tool.
Click a corner then hold down Command/Ctrl, Option/Alt, and shift then move the mouse to allow free transformations. The click-modifier-move order is important.

  • Can I Free Transform/Distort An Object Like Photoshop?

I need to distort an object much the way one would in Photoshop with Free Transform - Distort. That's the one where you can drag the corners wherever it suits your fancy.
The closest thing in Illustrator I can find is Effect - Distort & Transform - Free Distort. But this is a lot tougher because I just get a tiny picture of a grid; you distort the corners, and hope for the best.
Is there a way in Illustrator that will allow me to do this with the actual object?
    Thanks.

  • Please help - free transform distort...

    Hey.
No matter what I try, I can't get to distort objects using the free transform tool. I know I have to click/hold/drag the anchorpoint first, I've read all the help files, tutorials and sp forth, but none of the modifier-keys has any effect while I'm doing that. I'm a fairly experienced user, and - to put it mildly - about to kick in my screen over not getting something simple as this to work?!
I'm on a Mac, using CS4. And pretty pissed off...

Make sure Bounding Boxes are visible (View menu.)
    Select the object.
Get the FreeTransform tool. Mousedown on a BoundingBox corner.
THEN press and hold the modifer keys.
    Then drag.

  • Transform box "jumps away" on mouse click

When I work with many smart object, I often move them around using ctrl-T (Transform tool). But sometimes they're smart objects which almost jump out of the canvas the moment I click on them or when I try to resize the box, it gets squished at the moment when I hold down the mouse. Sometimes the objects jump so far out of the canvas that I can't reach them anymore.
This doesn't happen when I completely disable OpenGL. But it still happens when OpenGL is activated, but extended drawing is disabled.
This is maybe the ony problem I have with OpenGL, but it's an ultra-annoying problem. It's impossible to work with Photoshop when this bug kicks in.
Now the question would be: Does anyone else have this problem? And what can be done against it apart from disabling OpenGL?

There are a lot of Nvidia 8600m GT in laptops that are defective. I used to own one and took it back. The GPU chips are defective and over heat. There was a fix out that updated the bios and also some driver fixes that turned up the speed on the laptop cooling fan. Google the 8600 and you will get a lot more information.

Well I got a laptop with an nVidia 8600m GT card. I would rather not disassemble my laptop and change my graphics cards to operate a program I already spent a fortune on buying it.
This card has 512MB and I think it should be able to handle this when I work on a small 160x600 banner (that's where the problem happened last time).
The drivers for this card are another issue: They're about lets say 20 different versions of which some work, some don't work so good, and the newest one is unfortunately a big bunch of sh*** so I have to use an older one. Choosing the right one was a hard task, the one I have right now is the only one that doesn't freeze my computer every 2 days or so. So if I touch that driver again I risk the whole stability of my work station.
In my opinion, it's one of the many openGL bugs adobe should take a look at. I use many other applications that use openGL (like blender3d, games) and there never have been any problems. And I have seen many other people having photoshop openGL bugs in other areas.
It cannot be that there are maybe just 4 graphic cards overall where photoshop runs okay and on all other 500 remaining graphic cards they're bugs.
But thanks for your effort anyway!

  • Transform Effect jumps around when Collapse Transformation is enabled

I created a reflection on one of my vector based animated layers. Then decided to apply reflection with Transform effect.
It all held true before I assigned "Collapse Transformation" and my Transform effect is going awry. Basically because there is zoom out with the camera and scale as well.
Transformation's Anchor points and Distance are note keeping up with the movements and reflection is jumpint all over the place.
Where should this Transformation effect be applied. On the first level when I created my PreComp1 with all the layers (and then PreComp1 is getting nested within other PreComps) or at the very end at the Final PreComp for render I should apply this effect.
It seems to jump around in any case...

I read the help, it states that Collapse Transormation buttons treats the PreComp as seprated layers, which preserved 3D treatiment for casting shadows and does not cut off shapes by PreComp size.
It seems to work for me that I check continuosly rasterize on each individual illustrator imported layer (inside the PreComp1), so when I enlarge the shapes they stay crisp. Then I keep on checking Collapse transformations on all consequtive PreComps and everything stays sharp.
My question is at what stage I would better apply Transform effect, which doesn't seem to work. Should it be on the PreComp1 layer with all the Continuoiusly rasterize enabled or on final Render Out PreComp where "Collapse Transformations" is checked off?
In eather way because of movement of these illustrator layers, Transform position seems to be fixe on screen, but is not relevant to shape movement whithin the PreComp1.
What previously worked for me was that I applied Transformation on each individual illustrator layer, however I did not enable "Collapse Transformations" in and consequtive PreComps. As soon as this feature is enabled everything goes awry....

  • How to free-form transform/distort image?

    Hello, everyone!
I need to fit my photo on a video of a hand-held piece of paper that is a little distorted by holding in fingers and moving.
I tracked it using planar tracker (Mocha Pro) and exported into Motion, so now I have 4-corner pinned rectangle in different layer, matching movement of 4 corners of this paper piece for all length of clip.
BUT, as paper is not just 4 cornered (but has some push distortion, imagine you hold a soft piece of paper in hand), just matching movement of this rectangle won't help, I think I need to free-form distort some parts of my photo to perfectly fit in my final render.
Is it possible to do such a simple thing? I surfed all internet, but didn't find an answer (everywhere is a TV Screen, or plain sheet of paper replacement that have just 4 corners with no distortion). All i found is just a CHV Deform FX plugin, but it costs some money, and I don't believe Motion doesn't have this function itself. Or there's another way of solving a problem?
If you don't understand what i mean, just let me know, I'll upload a video or photos to show it.
Thanks everyone who will help me, I'm f*ing about 3 days about this and even can't sleep thinking of solution...

    hi,
motion can't do this kind of mesh deformation on its own. I believe the chv plugin does have this kind of thing, but I don't know how useful it is. The only solutions I can think of are hopelessly time consuming and wouldnt look convincing.

  • CS5 strange behavior w/Transform- Distort

Since upgrading to CS5, the distort tool is also scaling proportionally: dragging one of the handles will not only distort the image (as it should) but also scales it proportionally, something it didn't do in previous versions, nor is desirable. In short, the distort tool used to behave like the warp tool but within a limited quadrangle configuration (no mesh).

It's likely this issue that was introduced by the 10.6.5 update:

  • Using "Image/Transform/Perspective" on a layer?

    Hi,
I'm new at this.  I have a shot of a big room with empty art frames on the walls.  I have rectangular layers that are shots of paintings that I want to drop into the frames, but of course the paintings layers have to be skewed to show the perspective angle (trapezoid) that matches the room.  Problem is, it seems that I can only use Image/transform/perspective on the painting files before they become layers.  This means guessing the perspective, then moving them into the background, which is trial&error at best.  It's very hard to guess the appropriate perspective when the file isn't a layer. It seems that once the painting files become layers, the "perspective" option is no longer available.  I can use "skew," or "free transform," but not "perspective."    "Skew" doesn't work, because while it will allow changing the rectangle into a paralellogram, it won't allow me to change the rectangle into a trapezoid. "Free Transform" doesn't work for the same reason.  So, How do you apply the "perspective" function to a layer?
If I knew how to change the rectangle by grabbing one of a selection's corner anchor boxes and fixing it place, that would help because I could create my own trapezoid, but I don't know how to do that.  Does anyone?
    Thanks!

I've no idea why all the transform options aren't available; they are here.
    Anyway, try this:
Drag or copy/paste the painting in. It will come in as a new layer.
Convert that layer to a smart object (Layer > Smart Object > Convert..). Reduce the smart object opacity to 50%.
Choose Transform > Distort and move the corners individually into place.
When you're happy, set opacity back to 100% and rasterize the smart object.
The beauty of the smart object in this case is that you can transform repeatedly without any additional quality loss; it will be rendered only once when you rasterize.

  • Lens distortion correction in Premiere CS6?

I'm trying to correct the distortion caused by a wide-angle lens in Premiere CS6. From what I can tell, there is no filter or transform / distort feature within Premiere itself. I followed the steps in this tutorial to open the MPEG4 in Photoshop, apply the lens correction filter, and then export the video again to be re-imported to Premiere. http://podcasts.creativecow.net/adobe-premiere-tutorials-podcast/correcting-lens-distortio n
However this tutorial is for CS5. I am seeing no adjustment or filter layer in my layers panel, as it appears in the tutorial. When I go to export the video, it seems the Adaptive Wide Angle filter or the Lens Correction filter has only applied to a single frame of the whole clip. Bummer.
Any other suggestions for fixing lens distortion in Premiere?
    Thanks!

Both these replies are a bit rude and unhelpful. I am editing in Premiere, and I am not very familiar with it. The question is about how to fix lens distortion in Premiere. Maybe there's a way to do this that I'm not aware of...? That's why I asked the question! There's nothing about it that I could find in the forums. The only fix I found didn't work—which was to use Photoshop *integrated with Premiere*. And two people tell me to use AEFX without pointing me in any directions of how to do that. Useless.
Anyway, I found some information that *was* helpful. This tutorial demonstrates that one critical step was missing from the prior tutorial, which is to convert the video layer to a smart object before applying the effect:
    http://www.protechreviewgroup.com/tutorialsinformation/tutorial-fisheye-correction-in-phot oshop-for-gopro-hero-hd/
The same person provided a tutorial on how to do this in AEFX:
    http://www.protechreviewgroup.com/tutorialsinformation/tutorial-fisheye-lens-correction-in -after-effects-for-gopro-hero-hd/
Now that these steps are taken, I have to take the footage back into Premiere. It's a workflow question. Other video editing software has this kind of stuff built-in to the effects panel.

  • Trasform Distort Creating Jagged Edge

I am trying to use Edit>Transform>Distort to draw a fence in perspective. The result is a visibly jagged edge. (See image below.)
I am starting out with a considerably larger fence picture, in the hope that oversampling would fix this problem, but even that is still giving me a jagged edge.
Is there an easy way to create this effect with smoother edges?
(Possibly worth noting: in the original fence layer, the white areas are transparent, and need to be transparent, as there will be another layer under the fence layer.)

There was a thread a while back regarding Smart Objects that also showed jagged edges after transformation that I can’t locate currently, might have been about CS4 – but if Mr.Cox is looking into it anyway the issue should be in good hands.

  • How To Apply Similar Transformation Of One Layer To Another Without Duplicating?

    Hey there guys,
    This is my first post.
I'm also new to Adobe Photoshop as well . I have a sample 3d eCover and I want to fit an image over the front part. However, I'm having a hard time transformating my image to perfectly the front layer. Is there any option to apply the same transformation of my front cover layer to my image?
    Additional infos:
    1. The front cover layer of the 3D eCover is not yet merged with the other layers. So, I can still edit it.
    2. I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6.
    Thank you.

Convert the untransformed image layer (or a duplicate of it) to Smart Object then use Edit > Transform > Distort to align the SO with the sample.
The SO is not necessary but it has several benefits:
Multiple transform sessions will not increasingly degrade the appearance.
Each time you initiate a transform session, handles will be attached to the corners and edges of the SO instead of an axis-aligned bounding rectangle.
It can be a template into which you load alternative images to instantly transform them.

  • Distort texture

Can you take a texturized shape (either an Effect or a Graphic Style), and rasterize it (Object>Rasterize), then distort it so that the texture distorts with the shape, instead of remaining flat? (for example when you want it to fit a flat plane as in perspective) I am sure I used to be able to do this in Illustrator.
Like you can in Photoshop with Edit>>Transform>Distort
    Thanks !

  • Shear filter bug

On the 64-bit version of 11.0.1, the Distort...Shear filter is not working properly. As an example, I apply a point in the middle of the initial straight line in the dialog, and I pull it to the left. Instead of applying the curve accurately, the curve is applied more to the bottom than to the top.
Here's the really strange part: it works correctly in a file I edited this morning, but it does not work in another file that I am editing. I can jump back and forth, and it will work in the one file and not in others (even on the same object copied from the working file). A system restart does not solve the problem.

Are you working on an 8 bit RGB document?  Some filters have not been updated to work on deep data (e.g., 16 bits/channel or above).
Depending on what you need from the Shear filter, and assuming you'd rather not use shallower data, you might be able to work around the issue with the Edit - Transform - Distort function.

  • Can anyone help me to edit this picture?

Like the writing in the background. How can I warp the text like that? Nor curved, just straight like in the picture.
    http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/img6/OscarsBigFigurePosterTeleFull5803sv.jpg

You might be able to do that with the new perspective warp in PS CC.  If you don't have that, this is a way I used to create that type of effect:
Make your text layer and size it so that the center section fills tha area you want in the final image.
Create a guide where you want to "bend" or break the type, according to your shape you're trying to fill.
make a vector mask that goes cuts your text layer at the guide you just created.  Duplicate that layer and transform the mask so that the far left edge is no over the far right edge of your text - don't move the edge along the guide.  Put both layers in their own smart object.  Then use transform>distort to move the corners of each of the smart object text layers to fill your shape.  Don't move the points along the guide.
This was the image that I devised this approach.  Every board went through this process to make it look lik the grain wrapped around the board.  After I finished this, I put in several request for being able to transform a layer long a datum line.  Finally Adobe release perspective warp, which kind of along the lines of what I wanted.  To make the devide at an angle, place both smart object layers in a group then transform the group to the angle you want.  This was also done with each of the boards in the below image.
