Transition to iCloud - Contacts - disappointed at myself and Apple...

I have to stress that the non-automatic transition of contacts from MobileMe to iCloud is a very very poor show from Apple.  Massively dissapointed in myself for not reading the information regarding moving to iCloud more carefully and even more at Apple for not providing an automatic transition for crucial parts of MobileMe...
The loss of my Contatcs in MobileMe although not a total disaster it is a massive annoyance.
Apple should certainly be able to restore a users Mobile.Me account to a point prior to the iCloud move.......

There is an "automatic transition for crucial parts" of MobileMe.
Regardless of whether the transition process worked properly in your specific case, you should have been maintaining regular backups of your MobileMe data anyway. As stated in the MobileMe Terms of Use, you are responsible for backing up your data offline.
Apple also say's "Prior to moving from MobileMe to iCloud, you should back up your contacts, calendars, and bookmarks."
If you didn't take Apple's advice, and haven't been making backups, that's nobody fault but your own.

What you have experienced, though annoying, doesn't necessarily mean someone has hacked your account, though if you were finding that you were blocked because the sending limit had been reached that might indicate that you had been hacked.
What can happen is that when people receive emails which appear to come from their own address but they haven't sent they naturally tend to be concerned: however it's most unlikely that anyone has hacked their account, they've just been targeted by one of two common spammers' techniques: both arise because it's all too easy to forge the 'from' address on messages to be something other than the real one.
There are two methods. One is that the sender has forged the 'from' address to be the same as the 'to' address (so other people will see it coming from themselves, not you), presumably in the hope of confusing spam filters. It's harmless, if extremely annoying. Delete it (never ever answer spam or try to unsubscribe from it), and you don't need to be worried about it.
The other problem is that a spammer is forging your address as the 'from' address on a whole batch of messages. The first thing you hear about this is when you start getting bounce messages because the spam has been sent to non-existent addresses and is being bounced to you. There's no point at all in responding to it. It's infuriating but normally stops after a bit as they move on to another forged address.
There isn't really anything you can do about it: closing the account isn't really worth the hassle unless you are totally swamped, because you will have to tell everyone your new address. Apple can't really do any more than they already are about spam. However changing your password on general principles is a good idea.

  • Someone deleted my iCloud contacts from the website and now they are off my computer and phone. Can i get them back?

The contacts are NOT backed up in itunes

Nobody has access to the website but you, and iTunes does not and never did backup iCloud.
Start again and tell me what has happened, no conclusions please.
And do you have a backup?

  • HT204053 icloud backup with multiple devices and apple ids

Wondering if I have the appropriate set up to ensure all my data, purchases, apps, etc. is properly backed up to my icloud (personal email account)?  Here is my current set up.  PC: itunes - personal email; iPhone: icloud & store purchases - personal email; iPad: icloud-work email and store purchases-personal email.  So will store purchases on my iPad still go to my personal icloud?  (Note I can't change the iPad: icloud log in - iPad owned by work so required setting)
Also, does icloud copy any data from my PC other than itunes?  Not sure if the set up questions when I icloud on my PC are related to my PC or to the various devices.  For instance, "Mail" is an option - which mail account is this?
Any clarification on these questions would be much appreciated!

    My iphone 5s = apple id 1
    Husband iphone 4s = apple id 2
My ipad = apple id 3
Son #1 ipad mini = apple id 4
Son #2 ipad mini = apple id 5
For iCloud.. Not quite, you want the same ID for iCloud on your phone and iPad so you have the same info on each. (so perhaps ID 1 on both.
But if you want to share your music (assuming lets say its your ID 1 that has the iTunes account), you should all use ID 1 for iTunes.

  • ICloud Contact and Calendar Services on Snow Leopard, etc.

A solution to the problem on Snow Leopard and Leopard is Soho Organizer, support for contacts and calendars, plus a few other features ...
    A word on iCloud...
October 19, 2011 We just released SOHO Organizer 9.1.8 which adds support for iCloud calendars and iCloud contacts. Simply choose SOHO Organizer > Preferences > Accounts and create a new a account for iCloud calendars and/or iCloud contacts. Your calendars and contacts will show up in SOHO Organizer and any changes you make in SOHO Organizer are instantly reflected in iCloud and other devices that sync to iCloud. You can delete any MobileMe accounts you've created in SOHO Organizer at the same time you create the iCloud accounts. If you're a MobileMe customer, then you'll first need to follow Apple's instructions for "moving" your MobileMe calendars and contacts to iCloud. There are two important things you'll want to know about BEFORE doing this. First, you'll no longer be able to use MobileMe for syncing other types of information like notes from SOHO Notes (more on this below) between computers. Second, your contacts that were previously stored locally on your computer and used by Apple's Address Book application will be moved to iCloud. Apple has chosen to implement iCloud contacts as a CardDAV server which is great news since your contacts are now stored in the cloud using CardDAV just like your calendars are stored in the cloud using CalDAV. This basically eliminates contact syncing via Apple's Sync Services technology. Now any of your applications or devices can just access and sync to the contacts in iCloud directly. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you move your MobileMe data to iCloud, you'll no longer be able to sync data between your computers using MobileMe. This presents a problem for SOHO Notes since it uses Apple's Sync Services technology which uses MobileMe to sync between multiple computers. As you've probably heard, Apple will permanently shut down MobileMe on June 30, 2012. However, if move to iCloud today, it effectively shuts down MobileMe for you today. This means you won't be able to sync SOHO Notes between multiple computers. We're currently working on an iCloud syncing solution for SOHO Notes that will support syncing notes between multiple computers and devices but we don't yet have a release date for it. We think it's still probably two to three months away.

My iPod touch 2nd generation does not sync my contacts. I only have iCloud contacts in my address book. How can i sync that?

I do not fully understand you question.  To use iCloud on an iOS device requires iOS 5 and the 2G only goes to iOS 4.1.2 and thysyu can't access iCloud, including contacts.
Maybe you could sync the iCloud contacts with anopther program and sync that program with the 2G iPod.
The following smple states the following for Contacts:
iCloud: What if my device or computer doesn't meet iCloud system requirements?
    Contacts
If you want to check your iCloud Contacts, you can do so by visiting icloud.com from a Mac or PC (as long as it meets the browser system requirements for icloud.com).

I have one paid mobileme account, few days ago I have done transition to iCloud and all my iDisk, contact... gone. Today I tried login to iCloud application on my windows pc (64bit) but I can not, it said "this apple id is valid but is not iCloud account". I can login on website icloud.com but can not login into iCloud application installed on pc. What's wrong?
I have tried another free apple ID and logged on. That's funny when I can login with free account and can not login with paid mobileme account!!!!!!

By the way - the only reason I downloaded iCloud is because Apple deleted the backup option from iTunes.  Since iCloud doesn't work, I guess we have no way to protect our iTunes music collection.  Absolutely stupid.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple ID and iCloud email address don't need to be the same, you can't change an iCloud email address.
Also check your Mail rules and filtering, the verification mail may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted altogether. You may also wish to contact your mail provider to see if their spam filters are removing the email before it gets to you.

  • TS3988 Hi both myself and my wife are on the same account so we receive each others contacts and I messages. How can I get my wife a separate I'D but keep her on the account so she can still purchase items on the account thanks Gary Eveling

Hi. Both myself and my wife are on the same account meaning same credit card. The problem with this is we both receive each others contacts and see each others I messages.
How can my wife have a different name so we are separate on such things as contacts and I message but she can still purchase items on the account.
    Many thanks
    Gary Eveling

You entered your wife's seperate AppleID? Check you can login with the same AppleID here: http://appleid.apple.com/ on a computer.
Some of the photos in that link apply to setting up iCloud on a device from new, not when setting it up later. It won't look the same (the dark gray background) for you as you're setting it up now.

You can both share the same Apple ID for purchases but i suggest one of you use another email for the use of iMessage, Facetime etc.
It is easy to do, the easiest way is to set up an iCloud email directly from your iPhone. Once set up one of you will use this for iCloud services but both still use the existing Apple ID to make purchases.

  • How do I sync my address book contacts on my iphone and clear all other contacts on my phone (issue with icloud?)

When I purchased my iphone 4S, I had all my old phone's information transfer over to my new phone.
I organized my address book on my mac powerbook and then hoped to sync my computer's address book to my phone - in hopes of erasing all the junky contacts on my iphone and only having the my address book contacts on my phone.
I did all I could trying to make this happen (through iTunes) but it hasn't erased/replaced all of the contacts on my phone - I believe since my phone is synced to icloud.  So I'm stuck with a very unorgaized contacts list on my phone...
How can I make it so I only have the contacts from my address book on my phone?
    Thanks in advance,
    Suzanne

Also, I just noticed that syncing my phone effected my calendar in that all my events now repeat.  So instead of having one event schedule on a day, I have two of the same events scheduled for the same time.
It seems as if I can't sync my phone to my computer through iTunes and iCloud.
    Help???

  • Contacts - "On My Mac" and "iCloud" possible to sync?

Trying to sync contacts with my mac and my iOS devices through iCloud. It took me awhile to figure out what is actually happening here, even though it seems obvious now. Unfortunately I can find no way to do what I need.
Set up iCloud on iPad, iPhone, Safari on MacBook Pro, using fine. Noticed not all contacts syncing. Preferences on all devices say use iCloud, and use Mail and Contacts on all devices.
Finally noticed that on MacBook Pro Contacts, over on left page, at top left it says "All Contacts", under that "On my Mac", under that ""iCloud". Finally figured out that "On My Mac" contacts are separate from "iCloud" contacts (seems obvious). The contacts in "iCloud" are the only ones which sync with your iOS devices, and the MacBook Pro Mail program only adds contacts to "On My Mac" set. Yuck!
I can find no way to have contacts from Mail automatically add to the "iCloud" set of contacts instead of the "On My Mac" set. I cannot figure out how to get these contacts in the "On My Mac" set to sync to iCloud without some very fancy and complicated exporting, deleting, importing ALL contacts, and it is a lot easier just to type the contact info into a new card in the "iCloud" contact set, but I wish I could get iCloud to work automatically with Mail and "On My Mac" contacts, or find some setting or workaround so that I just don't even use or have the "On My Mac" contacts.
Does anyone know of some setting to allow me to use iCloud exclusively? That's why I want iCloud and Mac, to work together.
The way I often add contacts is:
In Safari, click an email link
In mail, a new email opens so I can send
click the triangle on the right end of the address in the "To" line
    a box appears
scroll down to the bottom, "Show Contact Card" (this used to automatically open the address book, but Mountain Lion unfortunately added a step here)
    A box appears
click upper right hand corner, "Open with Contacts"
    Edit card as needed
Note: this card appears with the "All Contacts" line highlighted on the left hand side of left page
It is also in "On My Mac" set
It is NOT in "iCloud" set, therefore will not sync with iOS devices
Anyone know how to get Mail to put its created contacts into iCloud to start with?

    Hi Virginia,
Try setting up your iCloud account in the Contacts preferences. Contacts>Preferences>Accounts:
Click the "+" to add your iCloud account, and when you get to this screen:
In the "Account Type" field, use the dropdown to select iCloud, then add your iCloud sign-on info.
Don't know if this will work, but my Contacts book only has "All Contacts" listed on the left-hand page - there is no "On My Mac" or "On iCloud" listed at all....
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

  • Data in my iMac address book and iCloud contacts do not match.

The data in my iMac address book and iCloud contacts are different. How can I get my iCloud data to accruately reflect that of my iMac address book? It appears to be an initial synchronization issue. New entries synchronize fine. Appears that initial entries in my Address Book are not showing up in the iCloud Contacts list. Hense, My iPhone coantacts don't match those in my iMac.
Is there a way to clean out my iCloud contacts on reload/re-sychronize it with my iMac Address Book?

Nuts isn't it. This seems to have been an issue snce dAY 1.  iT FROSTS ME THAT THERE IS NO SIMPLE QUICK WAY TO UPDATE OR CORRECT the data in both programs simultaneously.. Thats why i decided to just put everytning into the i cloud address brook, and let the one other sit and rot.
then i got smart and said, why don't I delete the outlookaddress book files. and save on confusion.
result - both addresses books  and their contents became invisible to outlook.!!!!!! and I can find no way to correct this...to go back to the imperfect world that was.
I did get the outlook contact s back from an archive - but any thing from icloud has become inaccessible from outlook.  (fortunately i can get the vcard infformation directly from icloud. but I can't access it from outlook mail.... means no replying, forwarding etc - and a time swallowing nuisance..
