Translation and XLIFF

Hi,
Couple of questions :
Is there a way to find out which "trans-unit id" in a XLIFF-file represents which object in HTMLDB ? ( page, item etc.)
and another one :
How can i prevent some templates or item / report-attributes being translated (they somehow appear into the XLIFF-file)
An example is a column-link in a report where the link text is a value from report result, e.g. #DEWNKNR#
this show up in the XLIFF-file as
<trans-unit id="S-107-5831153584421849-1001">
<source>#DEWNKNR#</source>
<target>#DEWNKNR#</target>
</trans-unit>
or perhaps i missed some "translatable"-checkbox ?

We've thought about interjecting comments in the generated XLIFF file. The reason why we haven't, to date, is these files most often are processed by other programs. We face this same challenge even in Oracle with the translation of HTML DB itself. The XLIFF files are processed by other programs, and comments are exactly that comments directly in the XML. A language specialist would never see the comment directly. And unfortunately, the XLIFF specification doesn't lend itself well to comment attributes.
In your case, though, it sounds like you're translating directly in an editor, where comments would be beneficial. We'll continue to review this in future releases of HTML DB.
The TEMPLATE_TRANSLATABLE column in this table identifies a translatable attribute which is a candidate for exclusion in the generated XLIFF, and we key off that to determine the value of the translation flag for that specific element. This value does not signify to exclude something from translation. It is almost exclusively used for templates. It has no bearing on the COLUMN_LINKTEXT attribute.

Bursting with translation and security attributes?

I've been lurking on the forum for a while and despite not always finding a solution, existing threads normally pointed me in the right direction - so thanks :)
I'm working on EBS 11.5.10 with the latest Bi-Publisher 5.6.3 (5472959) and bursting (5968876) patches installed.
I have successfully done the following individual AR Invoice Bi-Publisher tasks:
1. translated an invoice RTF template by attaching an xliff file to the data definition,
2. applied security attributes to the template to restrict updates on the resulting PDF,
3. burst a custom AR invoice print and emailed the resultant pdf's.
The PDF generated by the combined Invoice print correctly applies the translation and security attributes; however when I run the "XML Publisher Report Bursting Program" to the XML file the resultant burst PDF's do not apply the translation or security attributes. I assume this a limitation of bursting control files? If so, is this on the list of future enhancements to Bi-Publisher?
Here's an example of my control file document entry, I have included locale and pdf-security entries - these don't cause an error but equally don't generate the desired result (p.s. I know I'm emailing on a PRI filter - it's just a test):

You would have happened to try applying the security stuff in the application for your template? Try that and see if the pdf properties get set.
If that doesn't work your left with two options:
1. create a java concurrent program and set the properties manually.
2. Log a tar.

Are you sure you don't have to create template config for the locale? i suspect that's why it's not applying the xliff translation. Also, your NLS_LANG needs to be set to FRENCH for the approriate template to be applied. If your logged-in as english your french format template will not be applied, neither will the translation. As an example you can query vl table and you'll only get american (us) but if you alter your session you'll get the translation for that language when your query the table.

try it out and see if that works. Note: This will only work if your session NLS_LANG is set to FRENCH.

How to migrate translation file XLIFF to server

Hi,
I was trying to translate one of my layouts. The layout is in English. I used Tools->Translation->Extract text to get .XML file. In this file, I made the translations manually in <target> tags. When I preview it on my m/c, its working fine.
Now, I want to move it to my server so that I can run it fom apps. I am not sure how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you are using EBS, you need to go to Template manager, find this template, and add language translation, and upload this xliff file
You can preview, if the data definition has sample xml file
When you run concurrent manager program, you will see option for language, now select your language and the report will show in that language.

11i General Ledger : Translation and Revaluation issue.

I'll post the problem as descriptively as i can.
* The client has an Equity account under the natural code of 7341. He has not defined the GL : Owner's Equity Translation rule.
* The currency rate table shows that the rate type used for this natural code is Period
* Functional currency is USD
In August 2006, the client had made an entry to this account to the value of AUD 24,713 which was converted at journal entry point to USD 18,977. The entry was subsequently reversed in September 2008 and the USD book shows a '0' balance after it, which is correct. Just before the reversal the balance was USD 21,332 (taking into account subsequent revaluations till Aug 2008)
Client performs monthly translations and revaluations. In August 2006, the entry was translated to LKR books with a value of LKR 1,929,634. After which monthly revaluations which happened in the functional currency books also got translated and hit the LKR books till September 2008.
The total USD reversal in USD books as stated earlier was USD 21,332. This comprised of an initial entry and subsequent revaluations that were translated LKR books at different historical rates. But the reversal was translated to LKR books only on the closing rate as at September 2008. Leaving a small LKR balance of just over 100k.
Is there anyway that the client can perform the translation in such a way that after the reversal the closing value of the LKR books is also '0'. Please note that he is not willing to change the classification of the account from Owner's Equity.

Instead of reversing the Original Journal, Pass a reversal entry nullifying the effect of the Original Entry.

10.5.7 Translator and mds processes running at 100%

Hi,
Since 10.5.7 installation I've had a couple processes that decide to operate at high CPU load with no apparent cause. With no applications running I've had Translator and or mds operate at 100% CPU load, making most other operations impossible.
I am aware that mds is linked to Spotlight and placing my system disk into the Spotlight privacy list seems to temporarily solve the mds problem. However, the Translator issue is different. Once it starts drawing high CPU load it will not stop. I've tried to quit the process and it leads to a OS freeze. With or without trying to quit it, it leads to having to do a hard reset as soft resetting or shut down is also frozen.
I first installed 10.5.7 from software update. After seeing issues I tried other's suggestions to use the combo update. This seemed to work momentarily, until the same issues started popping up again. Anyone have similar issues? I don't think I'm the only one ... I hope!

Translator is linked to the Address Book and sync services with MobileMe... I've had it crashing since 10.5.5 Doesn't seem to actually do anything as all my data is synced correctly. Go figure! Here're a couple of lines from this morning's system log.

I have another questions here.. I can see the step called Maintain Fixed values, Translation and User defined routines in LSM Workbench, why is it used, when its used and where???

Right click with mouse in Word 2013 does not give the list with translate and synonyms etc

since i upgraded to windows 8.1 right click on words in word 2013 does not open the regular list where you can tap on synonyms and translate.
it does work if i touch the screen.
i moved to mouse mode but it does not help
can anyone help...

I have tested in my computer and it worked well.
Normally when we type a wrong spelling, right clicking the word does not give a list with translate and synonyms.
Check to make sure your spelling is right.
if the issue persists, Start Word in safe mode to check the issue:Hold "Ctrl" key and click into the program.
It is also recommended that you do a repair for your Office suites in
Control panel>Program and features>Office>Change>Repair

Google translation and navigation issue

I recently created a website for a lawyer. Instead of creating 2 sites (1 in english and 1 in German) we went the cheaper route and just used Google translation to keep it simple understanding it isn't a perfect translation. However, when it translates the there is a few tabs in the navigation that get screwed up. I suspect it is something in my design that I am missing. Can anyone tell why this would be happening?

First of all, uninstall it with the uninstaller.
Then:
Install the ENGLISH version.
Change the language in the CC app to Korean.
Install the Korean version. (DON't uninstall the English version)
Change back the langauge in the CC app to English.
When your OS is running in English, InDesign will run in English with Korean functionality added, if your OS is running in Korean it will take the Korean User Interface, so let your OS run in English.
Every installer language will add needed plugins for the work with that language. E.g. If I install Hebrew, I get RTL functionality in German version, only if I would change the OS language it would change the language of InDesign, InDesign takes always as UI language the language of the OS if available, if not (in your case you have uninstalled English before), it takes any version which is available in the order of languages specified in the OS.
If you need to run your program in a different language than the OS but you have installed it in the language of the OS it becomes more difficult. You would have to use some system tools which are able to force a program to open with a different language. Most of those tools are freeware.

hi everybody, i am trying to learn how translate and next_day function works in oracle.
i have the following query
select translate(to_char(sysdate,'yyyy/mm/dd'), 'A0123456789','A') FROM DUAL;
when i execute it, the result is //
my question is why is that, i thought it suppose to be AAAA/AA/AA
translate suppose to replace any character in the string 'A1234...' with A
but this is not happening. can somebody explain how is this working?
also i have this query
select next_day(to_date('06/23/1998','mm/dd/yyyy'), 'friday') from dual;
when i execute it, it gives me 6/26/98 which is a thursday and not a friday. again why is this?
when i execute this query, select next_day(to_date('07/10/2000','mm/dd/yyyy'), 'friday') from dual;
i get 7/14/2000 which is correct. any ideas on this?

Whenever you have a question about a function, start by looking at the [SQL Language manual|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/functions204.htm#sthref2476].
Under "Translate", the very first paragraph looks like it was written in response to your question:
"TRANSLATE returns expr with all occurrences of each character in from_string replaced by its corresponding character in to_string. Characters in expr that are not in from_string are not replaced. The argument from_string can contain more characters than to_string. In this case, the extra characters at the end of from_string have no corresponding characters in to_string. If these extra characters appear in expr, then they are removed from the return value."
I find it helpful to write the 3rd argument of TRANSLATE directly under the 2nd argument, to make it clear with what each character of the 2nd argument is being replaced:
select translate ( to_char (sysdate, 'yyyy/mm/dd')
            , 'A0123456789'
            , 'A'
FROM      DUAL;makes it clear that (for example) '5' will be replaced with nothing (that is, removed) because there is nothing directly below '5'.
On the other hand:
select translate ( to_char (sysdate, 'yyyy/mm/dd')
            , '0123456789'
            , 'AAAAAAAAAA'
FROM      DUAL;makes it clear that '5' will be replaced with 'A', because there is an 'A' directly below '5'.
Notice in the last example, there's no need to include 'A' in the 2nd argument.

Desktop version lost translation and keyboard problems

I have started last week with Story Plus and installed the desktop version (Build 1062) in german. Worked fine until sunday this week. It seems that there has been an update to 1063. After the update the deskop version lost the german translation and i do not know how to switch back to german again. The online version is still german.
I also encountered some other problems:
* Sign out is not working: First click, nothing happens. Second click the app crashes with a windows error (desktop version)
* ALT GR + Q is not working. On a german keyboard this gives the @ (problem in english desktop and german online version)
* Typing problems after using ALT GR (german online version) If i press ALT GR+Q to get the @ sign, it will not work and typing is not working anymore. If i switch to an other browser tab and back to Story, it will work again. This problems just happens in my german online version.

We have identified the issue and will work on the fix. Meanwhile if you face this issue, the workaround is to press 'Ctrl' key.
* Zoom (Adjust to Width) does not auto adjust if i hide the left panel. Instead the menu items loses it's selection tick.
Yes, zoom level does not update automatically. You will have to choose the 'Adjust to width' option again.
* I have created a second project and shared it with a friend. My friend got an email and can access it, but in my project list i still see "none" in the share column. This worked in the past (1062) for an other project.

Hi Jian,
In my recent implementation completed, business only had one currency to deal with i.e. USD. Data was coming from ECC and we loaded all the data in LC instead of USD using transformation *NEWCOL(LC). Next, you can maintain a rate of 1 in the rate model and run the currency conversion.
This will generate the same data values against USD. So, your statement " if we load LC and than convert it into USD, the data vulu will de double." is incorrect. In the system, you will have same set of values against LC as well as USD.
I suggest that you configure Currency Conversion for future reqmts if any.
Regarding BCF, balances from previous year (Balance Sheet Accounts) will need to be carried forward as opening balances to next year else your BS won't give true picture.

Currency Translation and Account Transformation Business Rules Together?

Hi I am fresh out of college and working on a BPC project. I have this working but fear down the road problems.
We are using currency translation and struggling with getting our NetIncome to write the correct value to the Current Year Retained Earnings when it converts from LC to USD; USD value did not match Net Income in P&L.
Initially, we did the Account Transformation first in our default logic only on LC, then FX runs and creates the corresponding USD value which does not match the Net Income.
It looks like the logic is correctly summing the YTD value but it converts using the AVG rate for the period (as opposed to multiplying each month by that monthu2019s average rate) creating a variance.
Weu2019ve moved the account transformation to run after FX and have it also running on USD. This currently works but seems like a workaround, and as we configure the remaining CTA rules will we run into problems?
Have any experts run into this issue before and what should I do?
