Translation for dynamic columns

Hello,
I am new to BIP and I am researching if it's possible to support translation for the a column splitting(crosstab) report that the column heading is not known until the runtime? Fortunately, I can seed the translation for these column headings in a TL table but I just would not know which columns will be displayed and the sequence of these display columns until the runtime.
Thanks,
Calvin

Thank you very much for the reply but I am still a little unclear how to implement your suggested approaches.
1) pass the correct translations to the report as part of the data set
I intend to design 3 tables. Table 1 is the main one and Table 2 and 3 store the column headings and translation.
Table 1: REPORT_ROWS(REPORT_NAME, ROWNUM, VALUE1, VALUE2, VALUE3...VALUE10).
- REPORT_NAME + ROWNUM: PK columns
- VALUE1-10: Depending on REPORT_NAME, different columns will be populated.
Table 2: REPORT_FORMAT(REPORT_NAME, LABLE1, LABEL2,....LABEL10)
Table 3: REPORT_FORMAT_TL(REPORT_NAME, LANGUAGE, LABEL1, LABEL2,....,LABEL10)
I can get translations from Table3. But how do I get the labels displayed as column headings in the BIP?
Isn't the column headings in BIP defaulted the table column name of Table 1?
Should I change the design of these tables?
2) and 3) how to do I pick the right translation at the runtime in the dataset or in the table?
My understanding is the xliff file is based on strings on the report template. In this case, these strings are derived at the runtime.
Therefore, the xliff file approach is not applicable. Is this a right assumption?
Many thanks!

    Hi poojith,
    thanks for your response,
    how can I use this message pool in my code. I know the message pool has been used for warning messages and can be called in the application as wdcomponentAPI.getmessagemanager.reportWarning (.....)..
    but in my case it is a checkbox group where fields will be fetched from a database dynamically when we run the application
    for (int i = 0; i < abcprp.length; i++) {
              ICheckboxGroupElement theElement =     wdContext.nodeCheckboxGroup().createCheckboxGroupElement();
              strName = abcprp<i>.getName().toString();
                    theElement.setFieldNames(strName);
    wdContext.nodeCheckboxGroup().addElement(theElement);
    I have got more than 50 fields which I will get from the above code..
    can somebody pls explain me in the above scenario hw can we use the translation

  • Cannot use alias for dynamic column name in SELECT statement

    Hi,
    I want to retrieve values from several tables by using dynamic column & table name as below:
    DATA: tbl_name(30) TYPE c VALUE '/bic/tbi_srcsys',  " staticly initialized for this example
               col_name(30) TYPE c VALUE '/bic/bi_srcsys'.  " staticly initialized for this example
    SELECT (col_name) INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE it_values FROM (tbl_name).
    The internal table "it_values" does not contain a field named "/bic/bi_srcsys", instead it has another generic field "value" so that the above code can be applied to other tables. I tried to use alias (AS) as below:
    SELECT (col_name) AS value INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE it_values FROM (tbl_name).
    But this cannot work. I know that there are other ways to solve this problem, such as by using a single field in SELECT .. ENDSELECT and subsequently appending it to the work area and internal table as below:
    SELECT (col_name)  INTO (lv_value) FROM (tbl_name).
      wa_value-value = lv_value.
      APPEND wa_value TO it_values.
    ENDSELECT.
    Just wonder if there is any other more elegant workaround, because I might have several other fields instead of only one?
    Thanks.

    Hi Suhas,
    thanks for the quick reply.
    Sorry that I have not well described the structure of the internal table "it_values". This internal table contains several other fields (key, type, value, etc.).
    I guess that the following code
    SELECT (col_name) INTO TABLE it_values FROM (tbl_name).
    works if the internal table only has one field (value) or the field "value" is in the first position, right?
    In this case, I need to fill the "value" field of internal table it_values (ignore the other fields like type, key) with values retrieved from (col_name) of the DDIC table.
    Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi,
    In my report i have dynamic columns and i am achieving this using <?split-column-header:header?> , <?split-column-data:variable?>
    I need to define with for the dynamically created columns.
    How do i achieve this.
    i have seen <?split-column-width:name?>,<?split-column-width:@width?> but didn't succeed.
    I tried <?split-column-header:header?><?split-column-width:@200pt?><?heading?><?end split-column-data?>
    Please advice.

  • HFR: How to calculate variation over last period for dynamic columns

    Hello Everyone,
                             How to calculate the period wise variation in a report where the period columns are dynamically generated from a range function? For example, the range function in the period column is &Current:Dec. What formula can I write in a calculated row so that the value is (Current  Period - Previous period)*100/Previous period ?
    Thanks,
    Sayantan

    You can add two more data rows.
    1. Use &Current
    2. Use relativemember function, select &Current, offset -1 (If you've a subvar for previous month that's the best)
    3. Add a formula row ([B]-[C]*100/[C])

    Hi friend,
    See the link below it is having the solution of hiding the columns in smart forms
    Hide table columns in smart form?
    Create a table to display your values with 12 col and hide the columns based on the idea provided in the link above.
    I think this will solve your issue if you still have queries please revert back to me i will help you.

  • Dynamic columns

    Hello,
    we have several possibilities to show dynamic rows (table, row repeater, multi pane), is there any possibility to achieve this for dynamic columns?
    I have a table with two columns:
    - TEXT
    - VALUE
    I want to show this table in ONE line, is there any element which can realize that? I'm working on 7.02 system
    Thanks and Regards
    Christopher

    Hi Christopher,
    Can you please explain your requirement a bit more? Do you want a nested table or you want a table with dynamic columns?
    You can add columns dynamically and using cell variant in the column you can also decide what UI element you want to display in the cell?
    In this link, I have explained how to add Columns and Cell Variants dynamically into table:

    Hope this will help,

  • Special characters in SBWP dynamic columns are not showing for some users

    Hi experts,
    We have set up a dynamic columns for business workplace. One of the field displays the comments entered by the user. Some users are able to see the values entered perfectly. But for some users, if we enter special characters like @gopal, it is not displaying the value in dynamic column.
    Are there any workflow/user settings need to be changed.
    Thanks
    Gopal

    I had the same issue, you should check the link between AD and CRM, so you could make a new user in AD and connect your CRM account with it, then you should return the old AD account back. It worked for me, try it :)

  • Error with clob column: "No pl/sql translation for the blind type given for this bind variable"

    This is reports 11g
    I've got a clob column. Reports seems to recognize its type, but if I try to reference it in a format trigger, I get this error at compile time:
    "No pl/sql translation for the blind type given for this bind variable"

    Actually, Reports is in something better than Forms.
    Neither Forms nor Reports do not have "complete" SQL engine (both have only "complete" PL/SQL engine), but have their own SQL parser, which does not understand SQL commands after the database 8.0.
    But, in Reports Data Model - SQL Query Statement, we can write "modern" SQL statement (> database 8.0), because Reports sent it directly to the database, without using their own SQL parser.
    For example, in Reports Data Model - SQL Query Statement, we can write this (scalar subquery expressions, in bold):
    select empno,
           ename,
           deptno,
           (select dname from dept where deptno = emp.deptno) dname
      from emp
    order by empno;
    although scalar subquery expressions was introduced in the database 9.0.1, and in databases 8.0 and 8.1 we should write someting like this:
    select emp.empno,
           emp.ename,
           emp.deptno,
           dept.dname
      from emp,
           dept
    where dept.deptno = emp.deptno
    order by empno;

  • Sorting a Collection with dynamic columns using a custom compare function for multiple columns

    I need help and ideas on how to sort a ListCollectionView.  My problem is complicated by 3 requirements-
         1. The column values contain HTML tags that needs to be removed before sorting (use custom compareFunction to strip HTML)
         2. The columns are dynamic, so dataField names are not known at compile time (need a single compareFunction for all columns)
         3. The data is used in an AdvancedDataGrid so multi-column sorting is required
    I have figured out how to solve any 2 of the 3 requirements.  However, I am having difficulties supporting all 3 requirements.
    Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    After playing with this some more I think I've figured out a solution.  This seems to work in initial testing.  Also, there is not a need to capture the current sort column in the headerRelease event which many offered solutions suggested.  Another benefit to this solution is that keyboard initiated sorting is handled also.  Whereas the headerRelease event is only triggered by a mouse click on the column header and special handling is required if the user uses the keyboard to access the column header.
    One point that I don't understand is how ascending/decending order is determined.  Behavior seems to be different between a single SortField versus multiple SortFields.  Notice how the compareResults are handled for the different situations.  Anyone out there know why???
     private function colSortCompareFunction(obj1:Object, obj2:Object, fields:Array = null):int{
         var compareResults:int = 0;
         var newObj1:Object = new Object();
         var newObj2:Object = new Object();
          // should not be a condition that is met
         if (_dataProviderDetails.sort.fields == null)     {
              var s:Sort = new Sort();
              var f:Function = s.compareFunction;
              return f.call(null, obj1, obj2, fields);     }
         // when a single column is selected for sorting
         else if (_dataProviderDetails.sort.fields.length == 1)     {
              var firstFld:SortField = _dataProviderDetails.sort.fields[0];
              newObj1[firstFld.name] = stripHTML(obj1[firstFld.name]as String);          newObj2[firstFld.name] = stripHTML(obj2[firstFld.name]
    as String);
              compareResults = ObjectUtil.compare(newObj1[firstFld.name], newObj2[firstFld.name]);
               return compareResults;     }
         // when multiple columns are selected for sorting
         else       {
              for each (var fld:SortField in _dataProviderDetails.sort.fields)          {
                   newObj1[fld.name] = stripHTML(obj1[fld.name]
    as String);               newObj2[fld.name] = stripHTML(obj2[fld.name]
    as String);
                   compareResults = ObjectUtil.compare(newObj1[fld.name], newObj2[fld.name]);
                    if (compareResults != 0)               {
                        if (fld.descending)                    {
                             return compareResults * -1;                    }
                        else                      {
                             return compareResults;                    }
               return compareResults;     }
    Does anyone see any problems with this solution?
    NOTE:  stripHTML(String) is a simple function using regular expression to remove HTML tags.

  • Generating dynamic columns for a report

    Hi all,
          Can anybody pls. tell me how to output dynamic columns in a report. my req. is that i've to generate so many columns as there are no. of unique(a particular field value) rows in my internal table. for e.g say suppose i've 5 rows in my internal table which has 2 fields, one short text & it's corresponding value. so now my report output shud have 5 columns with the short text as the column heading & the their corresponding values below each column heading. i heard it can be done thru field-symbols. can anyone pls. guide me.

    Hi Sushma,
    This piece of code might be useful.
    The following sections will help you to understand the steps required to define a Dynamic ALV.
    Following symbol signifies:
    Þ                    Important
    Main Steps Required
    The following are the main steps that are to be performed for defining a dynamic Alv
    1.       Defining a field catalog
    2.       Defining the dynamic table
    3.       Filling data into the table
    4.       Displaying ALV list
    Defining a field catalog
    The purpose of defining a field catalog first in case of Dynamic ALV is somewhat different than in case of normal ALV. In case of Dynamic ALV the field catalog is used to define the final internal table that will hold the data, and would be used to display the final output.
    Þ It is very important to remember that the field catalog table be refreshed first, else it might give an error.
    For example:
    DATA: T_FIELDCAT TYPE LVC_T_FCAT,
    L_FIELDCAT TYPE LVC_S_FCAT.
       Refresh T_FIELDCAT.
      CLEAR L_FIELDCAT.
      L_FIELDCAT-FIELDNAME = 'LIFNR'.
      L_FIELDCAT-INTTYPE = ''.
      L_FIELDCAT-OUTPUTLEN  = 10.
      L_FIELDCAT-COLTEXT  = TEXT-002.
      APPEND L_FIELDCAT TO T_FIELDCAT.
    Defining the dynamic table.
    This table will hold the final data that needs to be displayed. To declare the table the following things need to be done.
    Declare a field symbol
    Displaying Alv List
    This is done in the same way as we do for normal Alv. Call function “REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY” and pass the field catalog table in the export parameters and the dynamic table in Tables.
    Reward Points if it is helpful.

  • How do I create a macro that allows for the columns to be dynamic

    I've created a macro in my workbook which is a very simple division of one cell by another.  However when they use the filters to add or delete columns my macro isn't dynamic so I need to some how use a dynamic column reference.  Is this possible and if so can you supply some example code.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    What BI version are you in? If you are in 3.x, you can check the resultArea variable in the VBA code. That will give you an idea on the size (height, location, width) of the result area of the query.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot generate dynamic alert for initial column in SNP.

    Hello,
    I have an SNP alert macro with a simple condition running from Initial column for 158 weeks. The alert is generated correctly for all other weeks but not for initial column.
    The IF condition works correctly because a CELL_BG() in the same alert macro is correctly changing the color of the Initial column cell.
    Is there some setting I need to make to generate alert for initial column?
    Regards,

    Hello jejeje,
    thanks for your efforts - what you describe is something users have found out on our side too - a problem remains: you can save this setting "Period from last Selection" and it brings you to the INITIAL column but: once you have scrolled forward in the SNP data view (so that the INITIAL column has disappeared) and you leave the SNP data view or select another product ... it "remembers" that you last time left the data view NOT having INITIAL column as a start column.
    So, my users say that they scroll back to INITIAL column before selecting another part or using another SelectionID or leaving the SNP data view ... and of course they hate this since they have to do this a few hundred times a day worse case.
    We had a call open to SAP on this and I told them that is about productivity and usabaliity issue moving from SCM5.0 to SCM7.0 - but they have nothing more to say than "not supported anymore" - and the ultimate solution is / will be to modifiy SAP SCM standard coding - unless somebody from SAP is reading the discussioons here and is dedicated to help their customers which pay millions every year into SAP support fees.
    Thanks for your responses and effort !
