TREND Function in Excel

I have a large model that makes extensive use of the TREND function in excel to generate a baseline set of numbers from a Trailing Twelve month data array. Since TREND is not a supported function I tried to use the FORECAST function but the results are not as clean as the TREND results.  Is there any other way to do that (other than manually running the trend formulas for each cell)

Amy,
Thanks for the continued attention to my question.  Because the output of the TREND function is used to calculate other sections of the model as well as a to create a number of forecast scenarios I need it functioning inside X2008.  I will give the SDK a try if you can point me to it.  I found a link you had mentioned in another thread but it no longer works.  Also, do you by any chance know if TREND will be supported in SP1?  I am surprised, considering this software package is used for dashboards, there is not more support for the statistical functions of Excel.  Again, thanks for your help and have a great day.

  • Download functionality in EXCEL and PDF format to the  Webdynpro iView

    Hi Expert,
I am using NW 7.0 ehp1 sp3. I developed some Webdynpro RFC model application for the product catalog of the material related data.
Now my requirement is to provide the download functionality in EXCEL and PDF format to all of these Webdynpro (java) iView.
How we can achieve this requirement? In which part of the webdynpro application we have to write the code?
Someone can help me very clearly in steps to achieve this?
    Thanks,
    Kundan

    Hi,
I don't think it is possible to redirect the html stream of the Web Dynpro iView to a PDF / Excel document, since it essentially would mean you have to call the Web Dynpro application again, maintaining the state and context of the iview itself
However, using (for instance) the JExcelApi (Excel) or iText (PDF) you could create documents using the data displayed in your Web Dynpro iView, which has the added benefit you could design and layout your PDF / Excel documents in a more suitable layout for printing (most WD applications look horrible when printed)
    Cheers,

Can anyone recommended an app for excel spreadsheet. One that I can username iPad that can do the same functions as excel of desktop,or laptop ??

Thanks for the advice. Just don't want to waste money on apps trying to get the right on. Not looking to do too much, just add filters maybe create a pie chart. Will the app you mentioned give added sums at the end of the spreadsheet like it would on the windows version?

  • What is the purpose of User-Defined Functions under Excel Service Application?

Hello, I have done a lot of research and have concluded that we cannot use VBA present under Excel sheet code in sharepoint.
Today I was reading on excel services in sharepoint. I came across User-defined functions under Excel Service Application settings. I believe that User defined functions refer to the Calculations and VBA (am I wrong on this?).
If true, then, does this bring hope that we can use embedded VBA code present into excel sheet in SharePoint also?

    Hi Nachiket,
When you set  ‘Allow External Data’ to None, it disables all external data connections for the trusted file location.
When you set  ‘Allow External Data’ to ‘Trusted data connection libraries and embedded’, it enables connections that are embedded in the workbook file or connections that are stored in a trusted data connection library.
More information, please refer to the link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219699.aspx
As your description, when you tried to set Allow External Data to None, the external data also was displayed, it may be caused by data cache or time delay.
    I hope this helps.

  • Disable export functionality to Excel

I'm would like to disable the export functionality to Excel (to many statistics are done on excel spreadsheets with outdated data, trying to force users to make use discoverer for their queries instead of exporting the data and manipulate the data in excel) How can this be done? Is it possible to assign export possibilities to certain roles so only a limited user group can export to excel (or other filetypes like csv) while it is disabled for other groups?
    thanks for your input.
    Marc Willemsen

    Hello all,
Thanks for your thoughts. I had indeed found the option to alter the UIX templates and disable to possibility to export to all users. Problem is that we have a limited group of users who totally legitimized use the additional features of excel to work with data (hence the request to block export possibilities for selected rules), for others it is just the easy way out since they know excel much better than discoverer. The result of the easy way out is all kind of 'vague' analysis based on data which is no longer in sync with the database. Based on your thoughts it's clear to me there's some serious education and demonstration to be done in the user community. First hurdle will be to convince the senior DBA to keep the export possibilities to Excel enabled ;-)
Once again, thanks all for your efforts!

I believe the XSL to be correct because when I change it to a count it works and when I go into BI Publisher 11g and create the query in the data model and then create a summary from it, the summary is created.
    Can anyone help?

I went back to basics and created reports (via EXCEL templates) like I was asking based on good old EMP and DEPT and I found exactly the same problems I was mentioning. I looked at the templates provided but they were not calculating totals, like me they were selecting them and then just displaying them on the page.
Anyway, I have narrowed it down to the fact that when you do aggregates like sum(.//SAL) this works if you have a salary for every value. I did an outer join with DEPT so I did have empty rows and why I still experienced the problems.
Basically XSL does not like adding (including using the sum function) values that effectively have nulls in them which is why I get the cast/constructor errors because it is trying to turn a NaN value to a number and does not (or cannot) do it.
You need to either have a value in every row of your column (maybe possible by selecting nvl in your query) and make sure that you check the "create empty nodes" checkbox in the data model of BI Publisher.,
the other solution is an xsl solution where you would have to make sure that you only added non null values and for that you would have to investigate xsl blogs.
It is, by the way, why my count worked because it is just counting that the record exists it does not care what the element content is or isn't.

  • Functionality missing - excel opening pdf file launches adobe reader

When i opened a PDF file in excel or word it used to launch adobe reader instead and show me the file. Yesterday i installed internet explorer 8 and now this functionality has disappeard.
Anybody knows how to get it back?

    Hi and thanks for replying.
Well, there used to be something running on the background that opens pdf files in adobe, even if you tried opening them in office applications. And i dont know how it works but now it's gone.
Problem for me is not the opening thru another program itself, but the functionality being there and now being gone with the installation of internet explorer 8. Also, for some people, like my father, opening something thru adobe reader is very different then opening something thru excel.
I hope this helps and some1 can point me to the background process to see if i can update/implenent something in ie8.

  • Using Concat function - in Excel Source

    Hi,

What should i do to execute the excel function in ODI?
    Thanks in Advance

Probably, you have mistake in Excell syntax, try to concutenate columns by Oracle (set 'target' radiobutton in mapping and use '||') and we will see...

  • Smartview / Supporting Details Functionality / VBA Excel

Question Summary*: Within Excel, using VBA, is it possible to control the "*_Supporting Details_*" functionality (read / add / delete children, paste values command)?
    Detail*:
--- Within Excel, using VBA, I am able to control the POV parameters using something like this:
    X = HypSetPOV("Sheet1", "Entity#" & theE, "Project#" & theP)
where theE and theP are variables I've preassigned --- works flawlessly
--- Within Excel, using VBA, I am able to load / show the "*_Supporting Details_*" form using something like this:
    Application.CommandBars(1).Controls("Hyperion").Controls("Supporting Details").Execute
I then manually (takes too long) enter data to the form in order to itemize --- within a specific GL expense account --- the budget line item.
--- Request: I have a pre-completed Excel worksheet with all the details. I want to be able to read / add / delete children within a specific line item (SUPPORTING DETAILS) using VBA.
Can someone provide a specific example?
I've tried using HypGetChildren, but is this the wrong method? From documentation, this method appears to be associated with member children, not* SUPPORTING DETAILS.
I'm using this for Supporting Details nodes (children and siblings) --- it is required that I enter "Supporting Details" children (can have anywhere from 1 to 20 children) for this GL expense item (row).
    Here's my set-up...
Oracle Hyperion Smartview Version = _9.3.1.5.0.025_
MS Excel Version = _2003 (Service Pack 3)_
Declarations Made = _\SmartView\bin\smartview.bas_ (successfully able to use - call - these methods and functions)
Form Structure Row = One GL Expense Account (called "Meals Expense")
Form Structure Column = Twelve --- with each representing a month (Jan, Feb, Mar...)
Form Structure POV = Many --- and these are already set, I do not need help setting the POV programmatically
Thank you for your consideration and guidance.

    Dear Mike,
Thanks so much for your quick response -- this helps a lot.
Follow-Up Question: Could a modified request be accomplished (as follows)?
Modified Request*: Rather than programatically reading / deleting child nodes within the Supporting Details form, is there a way to programatically add a child node and paste values within the Supporting Details form in the same fashion that I'm able to load / show the Supporting Details form.
Load / Show Supporting Details Form:
    ---- This works --> Application.CommandBars(1).Controls("Hyperion").Controls("Supporting Details").Execute*
Click on the Add Child button Programatically:
    ---- This does not work --> Application.CommandBars(1).Controls("Hyperion").Controls("Supporting Details/AddChild").Execute*
Click on the Paste Values button Programatically:
    ---- This does not work --> Application.CommandBars(1).Controls("Hyperion").Controls("Supporting Details/PasteValues").Execute*
Click on the OK button Programatically:
    ---- This does not work --> Application.CommandBars(1).Controls("Hyperion").Controls("Supporting Details/OK").Execute*
Thanks for your help and consideration.

  • Lost functions for excel

I receive files from my boss and I need to edit them using my computer. The problem is that I use Numbers, and he uses Excel. Formulas and functions get lost and get miscontrued during the process, so it inevitably leaves me sending back the file with missing or incorrect formulas. Are there any drivers or extensions I can download to help me out with the converting from excel to numbers? I hate sending back unfinished work.

    Jerry,
Perhaps I misread the OPs text.  I focused on the line:
he problem is that I use Numbers, and he uses Excel.
Which leads me to believe the problem is in importing and export between Excel <--> Numbers NOT between version of Numbers.

  • Substitute Function in Excel: Replace text with instance number in BO

    Hi,
I have a column where data is merged from three other columns each text separated by "-". Ex: Services - Phoneline - New Customer.
What I wanted to do is to just get the last text which is "New Customer" separated. I used "Length(<columnValue>)-Length(Replace(<columnValue),"-",""))" to get the number of instances of "-" in the text as it varies from 1 to 3.
I use to do it in excel using substitute function where I have the facillity to use the character instance number. I don't know how to do this in Business objects.
    Please help...
    Thanks

Col A is a list of the capabilities and the formulas are in COL B of this sheet.  [....] The problem that I am experiencing is that for some of the capabilities I am see correct count totals for some while others are not for instance, "Account
Management" shows correct while "Security Awareness Program" is not. I have copied the text for each of the capabilities from the main sheet into Col A to reduce keystroke errors. I have also copied those strings into some of the problematic
formulas instead of using the cell address to see if the results change.
Good troubleshooting techniques.  Unless someone gets lucky with a wild guess, I suspect we cannot help without having the workbook to see the situation for ourselves.
You can upload an example Excel file (devoid of any private data) that demonstrates the problem to a file-sharing website.
Then post the "shared", "public" or "view-only" link (aka URL; http://...) in a response here.
The following is a list of some free file-sharing websites; or use your own.
    Box.Net: http://www.box.net/files
    Windows Live Skydrive: http://skydrive.live.com
    MediaFire: http://www.mediafire.com
    FileFactory: http://www.filefactory.com
    FileSavr: http://www.filesavr.com
    RapidShare: http://www.rapidshare.com
I suspect that the problem has to do with either a mismatch in spacing or the presence of non-breaking spaces (HTML &nbsp) or other non-printing characters, notwithstanding your efforts to eliminate that possibility with your copy-and-paste experiments.

Where do we change the properties? The "problem" is that the download feature in OBIEE is not as robust as you might think. What I mean is you get the basics (the file actually downloads), but you don't get all the formatting you had in the OBIEE report. The solution to your particular problem is to "trick" Excel into thinking that it is a text, by a method like below:
