Disable export functionality to Excel

I'm would like to disable the export functionality to Excel (to many statistics are done on excel spreadsheets with outdated data, trying to force users to make use discoverer for their queries instead of exporting the data and manipulate the data in excel) How can this be done? Is it possible to assign export possibilities to certain roles so only a limited user group can export to excel (or other filetypes like csv) while it is disabled for other groups?
thanks for your input.
Marc Willemsen

Hello all,
Thanks for your thoughts. I had indeed found the option to alter the UIX templates and disable to possibility to export to all users. Problem is that we have a limited group of users who totally legitimized use the additional features of excel to work with data (hence the request to block export possibilities for selected rules), for others it is just the easy way out since they know excel much better than discoverer. The result of the easy way out is all kind of 'vague' analysis based on data which is no longer in sync with the database. Based on your thoughts it's clear to me there's some serious education and demonstration to be done in the user community. First hurdle will be to convince the senior DBA to keep the export possibilities to Excel enabled ;-)
Once again, thanks all for your efforts!

  • Disabling Export Function

We would like to disable our sales reps' ability to export bulk records (ie. leads, contacts, accounts) into excel so that we can prevent them from sending mass email blasts/spam to our customers. Is there a way to disable the export function for specific
    security roles?

    hi Della,
export to excel is a privilege and can be removed from the security role. Please note that security roles are cumulative. So if a user has one role that allows him /her to export, then he will see the export button.

  • Export functionality doesn't work properly in reports post upgrade to EHP1

    Dear Experts,
We have recently upgraded our BI system to EHP1 SP 7. Pre-upgrade the export functionality (to excel or pdf) was working fine, however post-upgrade in few reports we have encountered some issues.
In a couple of reports the exported excel is blank, in some reports, few web items are displayed properly but others not and  in some reports exported excel or pdf is as it was pre-upgrade.
Could you please suggest any note or any solution which could fix this issue?
    Thanks!
Edited by: IlaSAP on Apr 14, 2011 10:01 AM

After further analysis I find that the issue happens with only those reports in which export to excel/pdf is done using a webitem which is hidden in web template. If the web item is made visible the data is exported to the excel/pdf and if hidden again it again results in blank excel/pdf.
Please suggest any solution to this issue.

  • Which functions and features in Numbers are NOT exported correctly to Excel?

I wish to know EXACTLY which functions I use in a Numbers sheet WILL FAIL to export correctly to an Excel or Neoffice spreadsheet.
For instance, I created a Numbers spreadsheet using prolific use of the IFERROR function. However, when I EXPORT to XLS, all the cells that used the IFERROR function were replaced by the literal value of the cell. My IFERROR formulae were not EXPORTED as I had expected.
I note that some formulae were converted correctly in my EXPORTED spreadsheet: eg MAX, MIN, AVERAGE.
I understand that IFERROR was a function introduced recently to Excel, ie in the 2007 version. Consequently, I suspect that Numbers exports to a pre-2007 version of Excel. If so, which version?
I have found this list that shows which functions are compatable amongst various versions of Excel:
    Excel Functions: Compatibility Reference (2010, 2007 & 2003). (n.d.). Retrieved from https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsHau4_IeCfwdG45c0VhcjBBUGNreVo2ZzN NRU1BT0E#gid=0
This list shows that, for instance, IFERROR exisits inb both Excel 2007 and Numbers-09. So why is IFERROR not exported?
Curmi, J. (n.d.). Summary of function in excel and numbers-09. Retrieved from http://curmi.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/functions-in-excel-and-numbers- 09.pdf
Some examples of my use of ISERROR in Numbers are as follows:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
I use the above function to  carry out the calculation ONLY IF  a cell is non-blank and contains a number.
    More questions
What are the rules that Numbers uses to convert to Excel?
Is Numbers converting to the 2003 version of Excel? ... or an earlier version? ... which version?
Why desn't Numbers advise me there were conversion errors or simplifications made?
eg: "Cell A33 Function IFERROR was exported to the cell value for Excel"
Is there a preference that I can select which version of Excel that Numbers will export to?
In the meantime, I must abandon Numbers and use NeoOffice!

    Thanks,
I applied your suggested ISERROR transformation to examples such as:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
However, a caution for young players....
Certainly, the ISERROR function exports to .xls. However, it behaves differently in NeoOffice.
Items 1 and 2 function identically in the case of say, ranking a row in which some cells are blanks.
Item 3, when translated using ISERROR to =IF(ISERROR(C32-C88+1),"", C32-C88+1), results in "" (ie error is raised) in Numbers but yields figure 0 in NeoOffice when there is a blank in either of the cells.
I  recall from programming school in the mid-1970s that using GOTO statements and On Error branch statements were not admissible as routine programming steps. In fact, we received an automatic fail grade if we used a GOTO or GOTO like construction. So, I have found a more programmatically elegant way to solve my problem: eg:
    =IF(C88="","",C32-C88+1)
Curiously, earlier I found/suspect this does not work equivalently in Numbers and NeoOffice:
    =IF(ISBLANK(C88),"",C32-C88+1)
When you try using ISBLANK you always get an intuitively unexpected result because ISBLANK ONLY gives TRUE when there is absolutely nothing in a cell. A Formula reference in the cell, even if the function result yields "", gives FALSE... because, according to the definition of ISBLANK the cell contains a formula.
As I tell my students, ALWAYS lookup the HELP on any function you use. ALWAYS test the function to see how it performs!.... and lesson 3: Always test your spreadsheet on different systems.... then hope!

  • Is it possible to disable Export connections functionality (Connections view) in SQL developer?

    Hi,
because of some security reasons, there is a need to disable export connections functionality in SQL developer.
Is it possible to do this somehow?
    Many thanks,
    Dejan

    Not that I know of.
Even if we did, they are still stored in a file that most of your users would be able to access.
You can however disable the ability to save passwords.
And exporting connections now do not include passwords by default, although you can include them if you supply an additional password.

  • How to disable/enable the export function?

    Hi,
I created a customized form from template and tried to disable the export function in the menu(File->Export).
How can i do for this?
    Thanks and best regards,

    HI,
If you are creating a e-business form from standard template and if your block is multi record block, then the Export option is automatically enabled.

  • Export function disabled in QuickTime 7 Pro

I created a slideshow in iPhoto and exported to a .mov file. Because I want to play this on my iPod Touch and iPad, I purchased QuickTime 7 Pro so I could export to the correct format. However, when I open the .mov, the Export function is grayed out...anyone know why this is happening?

I repurchased the song and after re-exporting from iPhoto, I was able to convert the .mov to .m4v using QT 7 Pro. Thanks for the help!
P.S. Wasn't asking to do anything illegal...I just didn't understand why the song was protected if I had purchased it (although 5 years ago)

  • Excel export (webui crm -- excel) wrong format of house number

    Hi,
in an excel export  (webui crm ---> Excel)  is displaying the wrong format.
If the house number contains a special character such as "/" then the house number displayed in the date format in Excel.
And if in the field house number is a number and a letter such as "9 a", then the house number is displayed in time format (9:00 am) instead the house number.
Does anybody know, how can I solve this problem?
    Thank you in adance.
    Best regards, Jasmin

    Hi,
There is no error from the CRM functionality. If you SAVE the excel, instead of opening it directly and then " open with "
word pad or notepad, you can see the phone no.s and fax no.s are properly transported to excel. There is a default format setting of
excel from the Microsoft, so you are getting the default format after opening the excel.
    Steps:
    1.Export to excel.
2.Choose the BP,PHONE and FAX columns holding the 'CTRL'key.
3.Right click on the chosen columns and choose "format cells".
4.Under the tab "number" choose 'number' and and reduce the decimal
place to '0' and click "OK".
5.Now you will be able to see the expected format.
If you are using IE then the excel file that is being generated should be an XML file which would help with the formating issue. But when there is a problem in the generation of the XML file a CSV file is created instead.
The kind of problems that can cause this could be :
    - Wrong version of Excel (professional needed)
    - Error in encoding (note 1560243 corrects this)
    - Active X Settings on browser are not properly setup or disabled
    - Other problems (some fixed in note 1457261)
    I hope this helps.
    Br,
    Lloyd

  • Exporting Data to Excel

Hi guys! I'm pretty stuck atm so any help would be most gratefully received! I am now at a point where my program is controlling everything properly and reading the data from the logger correctly.
I am using 8.5, using the DAQ assistant sampling at 10Khz reading the samples of the buffer at 1khz, across 8 channels and plotting this to a waveform chart. So far so good..
My problem lies in exporting this to Excel, I started using the write to spreadsheet vi but this never properly worked and straight to excel would make life a whole lot easier!
    1) I'm expecting roughly 50,000 data points (5 seconds at 10kHz) off each channel, but is this more than Excel can handle? Anyway round this or do I need to take every 10th value or similar?
    2) I am only getting roughly 50 data points for each channel! What is going on here? I have tried converting the DDT to an array, autoindexing and then reading this outside the while loop. I have tried convert DDT to array, then using buil array function inside the while loop then exporting this. All to no avail!
    3) My values are roughly of the order or 0.00001 or lower, I can only get Excel to write values to 0.0001 decimal places, can i change this at all??
I am trying to use the Excel Vi's supplied under the report generation pallett. So my problem is I'm expecting thousands of data points, I'm getting maybe a few hundred 0.0000 with the occasional 0.0001 thrown in for fun!
    Thanks
    Jon

    Hi Jon,
in this vi I cannot find any writing routines... Maybe they are hidden in one of those missing subvis...
    Cleaned up the attachment nevertheless

    Did i miss any step...?
How to resolve this problem please help me....
    Thanks & Regards
    Sowmya.....

    Hi Sowmya,
I do had a similar issue, but I avoided that problem temporarily by commenting the following code.
        l_conv_out = cl_abap_conv_out_ce=>create( encoding = 'UTF-8'  ).
    attach the first file
    l_conv_out->convert( exporting data = l_xml_out IMPORTING buffer = l_content  ).
Once this is done, you can export the data to Excel and open it and see too...But this is a temporary solution only. Implement this solution to get to understand more flaws of this.

  • How export report into excel sheet automatically using SSRS 2010?

    Hi,
I have created many reports using SQL Server Data Tool 2010 and at my work, we are using active batch to ran reports every month.

  • Export function not working in Internet Explorer

so i've got a report displayed in IE, but when i go to export to any file format, IE opens a new tab and that's it. depending on certain settings (like adding the server to intranet zone), i can get the new tab to say nothing or "Blank Page".
i've tried adding the server to the safe zones, i've played with some tabs settings, i enabled the "run active x" options...
finally i reset all settings of IE to their defaults. i still can't figure out what i'm missing. if i copy the url to another browser the export works fine, as expected. on another machine i found this "rsclientprint 2008" addon so i downloaded
that but i still got nothing.
on a working machine, when i click the export button, a new tab opens with the name of the reporting server in it, it thinks a bit, then that tab closes and i get the "open or save" message in the original tab. on the one that's not working, it
opens the new tab, DOESN'T show the server name and that's the end of it. so it seems like it can't connect to the server on the export function. (but report creation works just fine)
anyone know of anything glaring that i'm missing??

good call - i'll try that now.
the app i had installed before was Classic Shell so that Windows Explorer's (win7) left hand pane doesn't jump around on you when you double click.
i just completely uninstalled the application and rebooted. still nothing.
going to do a repair while classic shell is uninstalled. brblol
    UPDATE:
so i couldn't run the IE installer (per MS suggestions) because i have a newer version. so i tried the fixer that i found here:
