TRIALSP11 Application server Shutdown at SAP LOGON

This is my first adventure with SAP or ABAP..
1. I installed and followed the SAPNW2004sABAPTrialSP11 install instructions.
2. The installation instructions went fine from the
/people/manfred.lutz/blog/2007/03/16/new-blog-series-abap-trial-version-for-newbies
3. SAMMMC has MSG_SERVER.exe and DISP_WORK.EXE both green when I stared the SAP Logon.
4. After I start the SAP the waiting for response shows up.
5. SAP GUI comes up with a error saying application server shutdown.
6. my disp+work.exe goes to stopped state.
7. Error message says componet is 710, version 10, return code -17, counter 1.
The Log is attached. Any help is rewarded.

Problem with application server shutdown when connecting

Hi Friends,
I am new to J2EE applications.
I developed a web application that uses jxl and mysql for reading excel sheets. The host I am working on is supposed to be the server. The application I am running is working absolutely fine, by creating a directory and saving the excel file in my webapps folder and inserting the data to the database. But the minute I send the file from client system, there is a sudden shutdown in my server.
I am sending the jsp and java code related to this application and related log file..
I guess the main problem is with sending the exact path from the remote client, rest all is fine including excel and database interactions.
I commented the database interaction class just for now as I don't think there is a problem with it.
I am using Tomcat 4.1, MySQL 3.23

The VERY FIRST message in the server log gives you a hint as to what the problem might be. The server thinks you have spaces in your PATH to the application server. Therefore, the solution is to kill the server however you need to (task manager, whatever) and then reinstall it in a path that doesn't contain spaces. That's the low-hanging fruit here; if that doesn't work, well, then we will have to find some other solution.

How to access application server path in sap

Could you please help me how we can navigate application serverpath; for example in my job the file is placing at this directory /usr/sap/interfaces/WAP/100/MM/OUT/SOFTCONQAG/ARCHIVE in application server, How can I go to that path to check weather file is avilable or not.

Random application server shutdowns

Running 9.1_01for Communication Suite 6. All is working fine except I'm experiencing random shutdowns of the application server which causes Convergence not to work. Any ideas on what may be the cause of this?

Oracle Application Server Shutdown

I am having a few sites that use Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server.Both are on two dedicated machines.
Database Server Particulars:
OS : Spark Box with Solaris 2.6
Database : Oracle 8.1.5
Application Server :
OS : Spark Box Solaris 2.7
Application Server : Oracle Application Server 4.1.8
The sites that uses these server once in a while in a random fashion becomes unvailable.When we check the status of the database it is fine,but the server with the OAS would be in shuting down.
I am not used to OAS and would like to solve the issue.Is there a way that i can troubleshoot this issue.
Any help would be warmly welcomed.

Grid control 10.2.0.5 upgrade and application server shutdown

Current: 10.2.0.3, doing upgrade to 10.2.0.5
OS: Redhat 4
During the installer checks, Oracle is telling me the oracle application server will be shut down temporarily. What oracle application server? I did not know one gets installed when you install grid control. I thought that it just uses the http_server.
What is it shutting down? I stopped the oms with opmnctl stopall, prior to running the installer. I believe that was in the readme.txt

when you click on the tab "Application Servers" on the far upper left site of the GridControl (right next to Hosts, Databases, ...) then
you will see of which components the Oracle Application server exists (HTTP-server, OC4J, WebCache, ...). Therefore the HTTP-server is just
part of the application server - and if the application server gets shut down it's meant that all components wil get shut down...

Reading a document from application server / opening in SAP session

We have list of documents available in the DMS server....(XLS,DOC,PDF)
1. How to get the list of file names ( available in the DMS server ) into the internal table.
2. i need to open these documents by clicking - into the same sap session itself. (it should not open in windows)
Please Note : Many of our forum friends earlier to open the file in windows.

Hi,
You can show any doc that is uploaded in DMS using the URL of the doc . the doc will be shown in a container. You can refer the std prog . SAPRDEMOPIVOTINTERFACE.. or some thg like that ( i dont remember the exact name ) .
You need to pass the Class name . object type and object name to find the URL. Check transaction OAER and enter class as SSOFFICEINTEGRATION , type as OT and name as SSOFFICEINTEGRATION.

the Linux Version (Technology Preview SAP NetWeaver 04S) contains the ABAP and the J2EE stack itself. It is a technical demo for evaluation purposes. There are no additional components shipped with the installation media. Besides, some of the components you mention only run on Windows, the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio for example.
Nevertheless you should be able to install SAP J2EE components (e.g. Portal) into you N4S Linux Testdrive. Just download the CD/DVDs from http://service.sap.com/swdc and try it out. I've already seen a Portal on top of the old NW4 (Netweaver 04) Testdrive.

Sending mails with attachment stored on application server

Dear all,
i've written a ABAP report to send an email to external customers. The report is running in background every night and works fine.
Now i have to attach documents to this emails. The documents are stored in the filesystem of the application server under /usr/sap/userdata. It can be any type of file, DOC, XLS, PPT and so on ...
Has anyone an idea, how i could attach such a file to my mails?
Im sending the mails with FM SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1. Can i use this FM to attach my documents, and how can i do so?

You can use the FM' SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1 ' and pass approiate vaule for contents_txt in TABLES option. Its an internal table for any attachment.

App server shutdown

Hi,
I'm trying to find out the root cause of the unplanned application server shutdown that happened in our production system. I was browsing through the dev_w* and dev_disp files and found nothing unusual except for the log below, which I found in dev_disp.old file:

LSMW with CI on System i and an additional Windows Application Server 4.70

Hi together,
I have a really tricky problem to realize a parallel processing LSMW Workload.
In truth it isn't a problem to the parallel processing. It is a problem, how to declare the paths to the input files.
The LSMW is splittet in four steps:
1. Read data
2. Convert Data
3. Creating Batch Input File (IDOCS)
4. Start Direct Input Program
The first three points are using file in the IFS.
In the 13 points of LSMW there is point " 7 Specify Files" where I can customize paths to the real existing input and output-Files, which are stored at the IFS on System i.
For example:
Legacy Data          On the R/3 server (application server)
    Materialtexte                  /usr/sap/direct/lsmw/material/matsta_text.txt
This works fine.
Now we have added a Windows Applications Server in front of the 2-Tier enviroment to have more performance to the BTC workprocesses. Now we have two servers shown in sm51. One is the central instance (CI) and the other is the application server (AS), which is working together with the CI.
<b>Now the big bug:</b> In the LSMW transaction, you can submit the job to batch (BTC) and can't choose the server (Instance) where the batchjob should run. So, sometimes the batchjob runs on the CI (iSeries) and sometimes the batchjob runs on the application server.
But this is the problem, because the files in the IFS are only stored at IFS on iSeries. And if the Job runs at the application-server, the files is not found, and the job end abnormal.
Now I tried to find a good solution. So I want to declare a patch in LSMW, that the batchjob is running successful at CI and AS.
So I tried:
\iSeriesshareusrsapdirectlsmwmaterialmatsta_text.txt
But this is not really working, because the SAP WP can't find this file with this path.
There is a second possibility: Not to submit the batchjobs by pressing F9 in the transaction LSMW but making an extra job in sm36 for each job. Not very smart !
There is a third possibility: To duplicate the import Files to each Windows Application Server. Then it is possible to submit by pressing F9, whatever server will be used.
So my question is: What is the right way? There must be some poeple in the world who have done a migration with iSeries an Windows Application Server together? Or not?

Windows doesn't understand forward slashes, you need to use backslashes all way:
Try the following on one of the application servers:
Start - execute
notepad \iSeriesshareusrsapdirectlsmwmaterialmatsta_text.txt
If you can open the file, that's the way to go.
You'd need to check in your program, whether the job is been executed on Windows or non-windows and substitute the slashes accordingly.

How do I size application server RZ10 parameters

What are some of the guidelines for sizing application server. I have 3 app servers and a CI/DB. I have properly sized the CI/DB with parameters based on HW and expected usage.
Is there a guideline which parameters that I can reuse from the CI/DB instance?
I haven't found any app server RZ10 parameters that are only for app server.
Or can I simply copy parameters from CI/DB over to the app server and update the domain name for each app server?

Hi Weyland,
There are no specific application server parameters in SAP. You can reuse the parameters of your CI, but you probably have to increase the number of wp's and decrease the number of batch wp's on the CI.
When you are running a traditional CI, you should remove the rdisp/wp_no_enq from the app server profiles.
You should take the usage of your system into account when doing your sizing. Do you want to use one app server for batches or is the load spread equally over the servers. Do you accept users to work in the CI or not.
As a rule of the thumb, you can use the following statement for sizing:
On your CI/DB reserve the memory for the OS and the database, the rest can be allocated for SAP.
On your app server, reserve the memory for the OS (and maybe other applications) and give the rest to SAP.
Furthermore this will be an ongoing process. After a couple of weeks running with your new servers, you probably have to change some parameters. Check the amount of swaps in st02, load distribution, etc.
