Tricky question, sum two rows...but more to it

Tricky one to explain...
ID TransType_ Balance Amount Principal
_1___CHR______-200_________________
_1___ADJ_______200_____200_________
_1___PMT______________-200_____200_
_2___CHR______-300_________________
_2___ADJ_______300_____300_________
_2___PMT______________-300____-300_
I have multiple rows for each unique ID, as you can see. What I want, is one row per ID WHERE balance = 0. So, I need to SUM the balances for each ID, where Trans Type = CHR and Trans Type = ADJ...and this should give me a total of 0, for the accounts I am interested in. It's a tricky one to explain, not sure if this makes sense to anyone else..Any suggestions appreciated...
Oracle 8 database...PL/SQL developer....

Hi,
Here's one way:
SELECT    id
FROM       table_x
WHERE        trans_type     IN ('ADJ', 'CHR')
GROUP BY  id
HAVING       SUM (balance)     = 0
Shamrock wrote:Tricky one to explain...That's one reason why you need to post useable sample data, and the results you want from that data.
ID TransType_ Balance Amount Principal
_1___CHR______-200_________________
_1___ADJ_______200_____200_________
_1___PMT______________-200_____200_
_2___CHR______-300_________________
_2___ADJ_______300_____300_________
_2___PMT______________-300____-300_ As you've noticed, this site normally doesn't display multiple spaces in a row.
Whenever you post formatted text (such as query results) on this site, type these 6 characters:
\(small letters only, inside curly brackets) before and after each section of formatted text, to preserve spacing.
I have multiple rows for each unique ID, as you can see. What I want, is one row per ID WHERE balance = 0. Your table has multiple rows for each id, but you only want one row of output per id.  That sounds like a job for GROUP BY.
So, I need to SUM the balances for each ID, If you weren't already thinking of GROUP BY, then SUM should make you think of it.
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all tables, and also post the results you want from that data.

  • SUM two ROWS in the SAME Table

    Hi,
    I have a problem with this issue. I want to sum two rows from the same table, but I don´t know how to do that. I tried to do it with CTE, but always I get the same error "Ambiguous". I would like to ask you, if there is other manner to get that
    data (sum two rows) and if it is possible to see examples about it.
    Thank you  in advance

  • Line of text in two rows in a check box

    Greets
    Ive been working in a poll, and i use a check box in some part, but de question its to long to put it in
    i have the same problem with the text box, but with the command
 it can be possible to put a long question in two rows, but that command line doesnt work with check boxes
    there are any form to make a long question of one row, into a two row question in check box component??

    There is a multiline button example you can adapt for checkboxes on my blog.

  • 2x2 table. 4 empy cells. Can hide rows but not columns. grayed out. argh!

    Only one sheet with a single table with 4 cells.
    I don't see any merged cells.
    Is there any other attribute that prevents columns from being hidden?
    I realize that one cannot hide all the columns or all the rows.
    I was given a spreadsheet months ago with this problem.
    Couldn't figure it out so worked around it by creating a new one and copying over the data.
    Still have the original, so I have pruned it down to a 2x2 table that still has the problem!
    Sure would like to know what is going on.

    You can take a table down to a single visible cell, but no further.
    This worked for me to show only cell B2:
    Expand the 2 x 2 table using the handle at the lower right to include more than two rows and more than two columns.
    Click the header tab for column A and choose Hide Column.
    Click the header tab for Row 1 and choose Hide Row.
    Grab the handle and drag it up and to the left to collapse the table to a single visible cell.
    This was done with a new sheet after placing data in the top left block of four cells. YMMV, of course.

  • I manually added two rows in error. How do i delete them?

    Help, I manually added two rows, but cannot find out how to delete them without deleting all the responses!

    Hi;
    You can delete a single, or multiple rows in the Response Table by clicking on the row (or selecting multiple rows by clicking on the first row and then Shift+Click on the last row you want to select) and either using the right click context menu item "Delete Row/s" or clicking the arrow that appears when you mouse over the left side of the row/s and selecting "Delete Row/s" from the menu:

    Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    Do they launch OK while in Safe Mode?

    How can I build a sum of two rows in a CNiReal64Matrix?

    You could copy the two rows that you want to add into two CNiReal64Vectors via CNiReal64Matrix::CopyRow, then add the two CNiReal64Vectors via CNiReal64Vector::Add or CNiReal64Vector:perator+.

  • Multicolumn lsitbox select 1or More rows but user cannot edit

    I would like to know if it is possible to create a multicolumn listbox that a user can select one or more rows BUT cannot edit any entries (ie. is indicator?).

    The key thing to remember about a listbox is that although it looks like a table, it's really a numeric input. The strings you see in the "table" are set via the strings[] property node--which in the case of a multicolumn listbox is a 2D array of strings.
    Use this property to set the contents of the control at runtime and you don't have to worry about a user changing it.

    YouTube does not use Adobe Reader. Videos do not use Adobe Reader.
    Adobe Reader is used only to show files in a special format called "PDF".
    What you are having problems with is probably Adobe Flash Player.
    So, if you are trying to solve problems with Adobe Flash Player by downloading Adobe Reader, or even Adobe Acrobat, it isn't going to help you in the end. Is that what is happening (we can't really tell without screen pictures, but it seems a likely guess).

  • Merge Two Rows of a table to One row but into two columns

    Hi
    I Am struck in writing a query to merge two rows into two columns of one row.
    Here is the Sample data i am working with,
    Col 1     Col 2     Col3 Col4 Col Col6
    5000     573-3000 2     0     Phone
    5000     573-3036 1     0          Fax
    5000     893-5703 3     0     WOrk

    I bought PSE13 on Amazon. Got shipped two disks but my Mac doesn't have a disk drive. I have an Adobe account but it has no record of my PSE purchase from Amazon, of course. I have the serial number on my box. Can anyone point me to how I can download this software? Or do I have to return my Amazon purchase? Thanks.

    This may do it

  • Table -- sum of rows and columns?

    I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion to how I can easily generate the sum of each row and column in a two dimensional table? This is what I've got so far:
    public class SumRowsColumns {
        public static void main (String[] args) {
         int[][] table = new int[2][3];
         // gets the values
         for (int i = 0; i < table.length;
              i++) {
             for (int j = 0; j < table.length;
              j++)
              table[i][j] = Terminal.lesInt(); // Terminal is a class that can read the terminal input
         System.out.println("\t\t\t\tSum:");
         // prints the values
         for (int i = 0; i < table.length;
         i++) {
         for (int j = 0; j < table[i].length;
              j++) {
              System.out.print("\t" + table[i][j]);
         System.out.println();
         // sum of first column
         int sumColumn = 0;
         for (int i = 0; i < table.length;
         i++) {
              sumColumn += table[i][0];
         System.out.print("\nSum:\t");
         System.out.println(sumColumn);
    Example of output:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    6
                                    Sum:
            1       2       3
            4       5       6
    Sum:    5This is the output I'd like:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    6
                                    Sum:
            1       2       3     6
            4       5       6     15
    Sum:    5     7     9One way of getting the sum for all the columns is to make a for-loop for each one of them, but there has to be a better way. I could apply the same hack to get the sum of the rows, but I still wouldn't know how to get the layout I want.

    After many hours of frustration I finally solved it (for-loops can be confusing, man) after I got a hint from a post in another forum: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?postid=624021#post624021
    A more logical name to the integers actually helped a lot too. And here's the final product:
    public class SumRowsColumns {
        public static void main (String[] args) {
         int[][] table = new int[2][3];
         // gets the values
         for (int row = 0; row < table.length;
              row++) {
             for (int col = 0; col < table[row].length;
               col++)
              table[row][col] = Terminal.lesInt(); // Terminal is a class that reads the terminal input
         System.out.println("\t\t\t\tSum:");
         // prints the values and sum of each row
         for (int row = 0; row < table.length;
              row++) {
             for (int col = 0; col < table[row].length;
               col++) {
              System.out.print("\t" + table[row][col]);
             int sum = 0;
             for (int col = 0; col < table[0].length;
               col++) {
              sum += table[row][col];
             System.out.println("\t" + sum);
         System.out.print("\nSum:");
         // sum of each column
         for (int col = 0; col < table[0].length; // table[0].length is the length of row 0 (the number of columns)
              col++) {
             int sum = 0;
             for (int row = 0; row < table.length; // table.length is the number of rows
               row++) {
              sum += table[row][col];
             System.out.print("\t" + sum);
         System.out.println();
    }

  • Report two rows for a given group item

    All,
    I need to generate a report that will list credits on one line and related debits on the next line. Kind of like the following:
    Account Name_____Amount
    Cash ................. 1000.00 ...... (this line would reflect positive entries, or deposits)
    Cash .................... 20.00 - ...... (this line would reflect the negative entries, or withdrawls)
    Is there an easy way to do something like this?
    We're running the desktop edition of Discoverer 10g.
    Thanks,
    Gary F.

    Hi Rod,
    The plot thickens...
    The report I'm working on will read through a table of invoiced items, much like the following:
    Bill_Charges Table
    Company
    Year
    Month
    Week
    Bill_Code
    Retail_Amount
    Discount_Amount
    Based on the Bill_Code, I need to aggregate the Retail_Amount, and the Discount_Amount.
    The data can look like this:
    ABC Company, 2009,08,01,102,100.00,10
    ABC Company, 2009,08,01,103,90.00,15
    ABC Company, 2009,08,01,104,100.00,5
    ABC Company, 2009,08,01,105,100.00,5
    The report will then need to report two rows for all Bill_Codes in the 100s range, first the Retail_Amount, and then the Discount_Amount directly below it, in the next row, as seen below:
    Company Name . . . . . . .Billed Amounts
    ABC Company................$390.00 (This would be the sum of the Retail_Amount column)
    .................................. $35.00 (this would be the sum of the Discount_Amount column)
    My gut feeling is that this will need to be a pivot table, but I'm so rusty on pivot tables that I'd need more than just a squirt can to limber me up.
    Any help you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for all you do for us,
    Gary F.

  • Need help with Expressions to get the sum of rows between dates

     Date              Total
    8/06/2010     $2000
    8/10/2010    $5000
    8/28/2010      $2500
    9/10/2010    $5000
    9/16/2010   $2000
    9/25/2010   $7000
    9/28/2010     $2500
    I need sum of rows based on month. I have tried  following syntax. It did not work, which is returning $0.  Appreciate any help i get.
    =sum(iif(Date.value>="8/01/2010" AND Date.value<="8/30/2010",Total.value,0))

    Hi RG K,
    According to your description, you want to calculate sum of total based on month use expression, but the expression does not work. If that is the case, please refer to the following steps:
    In design surface, right-click Insert and click Text Box.
    Right-click inside of the text box, then click expression.
    In Expression text box, type the expression like below:
    =sum(iif(Fields!Date.Value>="8/01/2010" AND Fields!Date.Value<="8/30/2010",Fields!total.Value,CDec(0)))
    In this expression, the data type of total is Decimal, so we need to convert 0 to Decimal use CDec() function. If data type of total is Double, we need to use CDbl() function.
    The following screenshot is for your reference:
    If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
