Incomplete swf import

Hi.im trying to import swf files produced by an external party into an existing captivate project. There are 3 files varying in length from 3-5 minutes. On each attempt to import the files captivate seems to import successfully, but when viewing the file in capticate edit or preview mode the swf has been cut off and is only approx 70% of the original.
So for example the first 5 minute swf (in original form) is now only 3 or so minutes when imported viewed in captivate - with the end section cut off.
The files are basically powerpoint presentations converted into swf. I cant get the original ppt files.
Any suggestions?
thanks
Gav

I am having the same problem however the solution provided did not work for me.
I have inserrted an .swf file as an animation, when I play the slide the entire video plays (approx 45.5 seconds) .  When I preview or publish the .swf is cut off around the 23 second mark.
Technical details:
Captivate 4
inserting a .swf file
Windows 7
64-bit OS
Suggestions?
Thanks!

  • SWF import to AE suddenly not working. HELP! Urgent!

I have been importing SWF's fine in to AE CS5 then all of a sudden, it seems to have stopped allowing imports.
Existing swf's remain in the project folder but show as missing.
If I try to import a new swf, even into a new project, it is greyed out and there is no file format
I have all the latest updates to AE cs5 (10.0.1) and flash etc it's on OSX 10.6  and it's been working since then - just seemed to have stopped.
I have installed some plugins and scripts but again was all working before and After.
    Tried unistalling and reinstalling
Help!? BIg important project. Dealine looms!
Many thanks in advace for any help

"But in the case of After Effects and Flash, all of my Flash geeks have learned not to even think about giving me their SWF files. We work together to figure out how their stuff gets into my stuff and it's usually a movie or a series of vector artwork I can manipulate."
I can't even begin to explain how wrong you are. Flash IS a vector format and it's without doubt the best way to import animations to AE.
If you are exporting videos from Flash you have lost: built in transparency, Tiny file sizes, and infinite scalability
I know that there have been problems in the past but CS5 flash and AE really does work seemlessly together.
My VERY annoying problem came from an importer script that had an error in it which changed the Adobe importer.
    The solution...
"Yar, hardly ever solves anything on a Macintosh, dunno why people bother with that."
Unistall and reinstall - replacing the broken importer and never using the dodgy script again...

  • Swf import with xml etc.

    Hi,
I've got an swf photogallery but it pulls it's data from an xml and I was wondering how I would import this?
The idea is that when someone clicks photo gallery in the menu it goes to a seperate page where to photogallery automaticly loads. If someone could explain me how to do this I would be very greatfull.
(right now when I just import the swf, it does nothing at all)
    Jason.

  • .swf imported in Flash Catalyst shows only the Flash Shockwave icon

I have scoured the FC forums and watched all of the Adobe TV episodes
on importing .swf files into Flash Catalyst but I am still faced with the following problem.
I have a basic animated .swf file that I created in Flash CS5.  I am trying to import that .swf file into a Flash Catalyst project but when I do I only see the blue border around the asset when I click it in the layers panel.  In the top left corner is a small round Flash Icon ( I believe it is the Flash Shockwave version - Blueish Gray). Nothing shows when I "Run" the project nor when I added the .swf file in the local folder from where Flash Catalyst runs the project.
I tried re-publishing the original Flash file in different version of Flash player, but to no avail.  Not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if I have imported incorrectly or what.
Even though I cannot see the .swf file imported into Flash Catalyst, I still tried to add an interaction to play on Application Start, but nothing there either.
At a loss and looking for some direction.
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Cheers!

    Erik -
It's a  pleasure to help someone!  I just got through this as you can see.  Only problem is I just hacked it with no precision, so for example I moved a lot of files to the server to make them accessable and then it played.  But near as I can tell, I'll tell you the story.
There are two things going on.  When you play it locally it's different from when you play it on the web. You are correct, you should see the first frame of the swf  in your animation.  To get it to play (assuming it is set to play)you  then have to control+enter to preview (on windows). The assests are laid out locally in the file structure displayed in the url bar.  no?
Part of it is that there may be several things going on here... All I can do is tell you all the numerous problems I had, made worse because I had 3 different work-stations...
I had problems when I had several swfs floating around in the  library and I think similar names: Eventually I just did a clean export  of the swf (the first one was from Flash... 3?  4?  and Catalyst is  cs5... )  and such to just do the work-flow in one motion.  I had too  many work-stations going on. So that part I finally did cleanly, and when that was settled, I could handle the file issues.
The swf: It does have to be in the same folder, and not in a sub-folder.  Also, all the contents from DEPLOY TO WEB - just drag it into your site folder defined by dreamweaver or whatever and put it on the server at the same level, NO russian dolls (no file folders within folders).  With Dreamweaver, when you upload a swf, you select the MAIN file and supposedly DW pulls files - it does, but not all of them, such as supporting swfs.
I would have thought that DW would do it correctly automatically : It seems to want to: but there are still kinks.
If you're like me, you recognize that catalyst is a powerful creative stage, but this stuff is just annoying and really easier just man-handled with precision once and forgotten about lol.
I heard also some grumbling on swfs that are just too huge or have aspects that don't import well, but it doesnt' sound like a problem in this case.
Do update me  - I'm around this weekend, would love to see you succeed on this.
    Cache,
Thanks for your replies. I have put the .swf file in the  same "local" directory as the main.html for the FC Project I am working  on and no luck locally. However, does the .swf file have to be in the  local directory of the FC project prior to it being imported into FC for  it to work locally?
Also, when I was watching a video  tutorial about inserting .swf files into FC, the graphics/content of the  .swf that was inserted could be seen in the design view of FC. My  imported .swf only shows a small, round flash icon in the corner and  nothing else.  This doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't one be able to  see the graphics/content of the imported .swf so that  it can be  properly placed in the design? That is how it was in the video tutorial.  If this is also due to the location of the imported .swf then Adobe has  not made that clear in anything I have read or seen.

  • SWF import in Captivate / problem synchronizing

    Hi All,
I tried to import a SWF movie into a newly created captivate
movie. In FLASH I have a framerate of 8 ps, which means my movie
should last about 25 seconds. Now, when I import it into Captivate
the movie only lasts 6.9 seconds and my animation goes nuts. (
Tweens are not very nice when they flash by in 0.2 seconds :-) ).
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or how I can prevent
Captivate from shortcutting my swf-movie ?

    Hi sdanckaarts
Captivate normally operates at 30 frames per second. So it's
no surprise that you are seeing what you are. You are taking
something designed for 8 frames per second and running it at 30.
Hence looking a bit like it's had about four shots of espresso!
You have a few choices. Increase the Flash frame rate to 30
frames per second, re-publish and re-insert in Captivate. Or reduce
Captivate to 8 frames per second. Or maybe a little on each end.
To change Captivate's frame rate, click Edit >
Preferences... > Project node. (Captivate 3) or Project >
Preferences... > Project tab (Captivate 2).
Cheers and best of luck in getting the result you want...

  • Interactive swf-Import fails....

    Hi!
This might be a silly question.....But I am confused.
I created a little interactive game in flash and imported the game into my captivate projekt (Captivate 4). But after publishing the game will not start (it should start with a mouse-click on it).
    I double checked everthing, playerversion (8), AS-Version (AS2), fps (15).....
Is it posible that it will just not work? Is there a work-around? Create a widget??? Where do I insert my code?
    I am sorry to ask..
    Greetings from Berlin,
    Lilly

    Hi Lilly,
I am reall sorry to hear that you have encountered issues importing your interactive swf files into Adobe Captivate. Unfortunately the only suggestion I can make it to post this question to the Advanced Adobe Captivate Users forum,
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_captivate/adobe_captivate_advanced
I am sure some one there can help you out.

  • SWF Import Glitches

I have a swf file created by exporting from 3D Max via Swift 3D.  The SWF file looks great! No problems. When importing into Flash 5.5 via File > Import, there are glitches in the animation, sections dropping color, etc.
What can I do to have a clean import of my swf into flash?  It's only 60 frames long and the file size is about 1MB.
Note:  Contacted Swift3D and they were able to duplicate the problem in Flash 6. But the problem is on Flash's end because the SWF created works great.

I've solve it myself. Just two days before deadline. Thanks to those who were considering giving me their feedback or suggestions .
And for those who are curious what I did to solve it.  I simple rendered separate objects from 3D Max using Swift3D and output them as swf instead of rendering everything in a single swf. Then I layered them correctly in Flash. No more glitches.  My only guess is Flash did not like so many objects close together in the swf and was dropping colors.  Separating them made flash happy.

  • No more swf import with Premiere Pro CC 7.1 ?

    Hello,
After upgrading Premiere Pro CC to 7.1 I am not able to import swf files, and previous projet with swf files consider them as offline. Is it just a bug with my install or did this feature has been avoided ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Best Regards,
    Sébastien

    Hello,
Thank you for your help and all your answers. It was very helpufull to import SWF directly inside Premiere Pro and to add other video elements around the SWF in the timeline. SWF is a small file, it is very fast to export SWF in Flash, and so to update and Premiere Pro timeline if we need some change in the SWF animation.
I am using this workflow for cartoon for children. My graphic designer for this cartoon is only able to use Flash, and it is a good way beacause we are also able to create a SWF export in an html page. Video Export in Flash is really bad, for example it is unable to export embeded clips so you have to only use graphic symbol and never clip symbols (but same problems if you import SWF in Premiere Pro or After Effects). Flash video export is also bad compared to presets used in Adobe Media Encoder Premiere Pro and After Effects.
So, because now Premiere Pro CC 7.1 is not able to import SWF, the best way to export SWF to video for me:
    1. Import SWF in After Effects, create a composition
    2. Export the composition with Adobe Media Encoder, for example H264 around 25Mb/s like AVCHD
    3. Import these videos files in Premiere Pro and replace our SWF with the video files instead.
    Best Regards,
    Sébastien

  • Flash CS5.5 publishing incomplete SWF

    Hello,
I have an FLA that has 20 scenes in it. When I publish it, the resulting SWF plays fine up to scene 16. At that point, I get the streaming audio, but the animation just stops. The scenes after 16 are empty.
This is a simple, voice narrated movie that is linear. The buttons at the bottom are AS2 pause/play/nextscene/prevscene. It works fine till I get to scene 16 and that's where it seems like it's just incomplete.
I noticed when it's publishing that the progress bar seems to get a bit over halfway and then the publishing dialog just disappears as if it's finished. It doesn't move the progress bar all the way to 100%.
If I do a test scene each one of those scenes publishes fine and plays fine inside Flash CS5.5. This only happens when I publish the whole thing. If I copy the timeline of scene 16 and paste it into a new movie, that single scene also publishes and plays fine. Again, it's only when it is publishing all 20 scenes.
    Anyone run into this?
I have a Mac Pro with 10 gigs RAM and OS X Lion.
    Thanks!
    Scot

OK, I found on another thread that Flash has a 16,000 frame limit in any SWF. That was my problem.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash Player on the IE browser.
1)You can use the following link to uninstall Flash Player from your computer:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe
    2) After uninstalling flash, use Internet Explorer to install Flash Player.  You can use the following link to install Flash:

  • Losing audio on .swf import

I'm using a program to create a screencast that exports a .swf. I need to import it into Premier for further editing. The video imports fine, but the audio gets completely lost, although it plays fine in the original .swf. Can I do something to fix this, or is this a Premier bug?

Thanks! Worked like a charm and saved me an annoying intermediary conversion.
Incidentally, you referred to .swf in that thread as an esoteric format. There's no question that in the video world, .swf is just that. But... it's also Adobe's format, so you'd expect it to be well supported Anyway, I'm happy with the workaround. Thanks again.

  • Multiple SWF import throwing audio off

I created seven separate SWF files in Captivate 3 that I want to compile into one video.  I created the "player" shell with seven slides so I could insert the SWF file as an animation on each slide.  When I insert the initial two files, the audio plays correctly, however, when I insert any additional files, the audio for later SWFs is played instead.  All of the files are less than 5 MB, with most below 2 MB.
    I would appreciate any assistance.
    Thanks,
    Todd

Is there a way to export a FCP movie with multiple audio tracks? Example: If i have 3 audio track of stems (voice, music, sfx) I would love for them to exist as say different channels in one file This way down the line, say I want to remove the music, i can just turn off the channel. Or import the FCP movie into a sequence and have the three audio track mono, rather than a stereo mix-down.
I take it you're looking to export to a QT file, then yes, you can most definitely do just this. But first you need to setup your sequence correctly:
With the right Timeline open, go to Sequence Settings, then select the Audio Outputs tab
Change the output number from 2 to 4.
Adjust the available tracks' Grouping from stereo to dual mono (Very important!) then close out of Sequence Settings
Now - and this is the part I always forget - you'll need to actually route the tracks to those specific outputs. Right-click in the control area of the timeline (anywhere where you're not over a lozenge, lock or autoselect button) and make sure that the extra tracks (past 1-2) are routed to the correct output. That is, right click in the space to the left of A3 and in the shortcut menu, select Audio Outputs > 3. And so on.
Now, when you attempt to Export > QuickTime Movie using Current Settings, you'll get a 4 channel QT file. Unfortunately you can't do an odd number of channels (like 3) but most folks who do this do 6 channels (stereo pairs for dialogue, music and effects).

  • Premiere Elements 7: SWF import only?

The spec sheet says only "import" but for other formats they add the word "only" to import or export, so I'm double-checking.  Can PE7 export animations to SWF?
    Thanks in advance.

    No, you can not.
    You can export FLVs though.

  • Indesign Export SWF Import into pdf poor quality

    Hello!
I'm designing an interactive pdf portfolio.
I have exported the indesign file as an SWF at 300dpi 100% resoultion.
I have then imported the SWF back into indesign and exported as an PDF (interactive) again 300dpi
When viewed in the html file . Quality is perfect, however when viewed in the PDF quality is awful. No idea whats happening to cause this issue.
    I am using CS5.5 / Version 7.5.2 & viewing the PDF in Acrobat X / Version 10.1.7
    Can anyone advise?
here is a link to the file:  http://samrowe.net/pdfswf.pdf

In you have Acrobat, to eliminate any issue of swf degradation [when placing swf in ID and exporting pdf] you can add mulimedia swf directly into a PDF.
But, even with a successful placement of swf into a PDF, you will have no control of your recipient's successful playback due to versions of Acrobat/Reader, multimedia preferences and security settings.

Well those are missing file errors - if you read it - it says
so. To resolve that you need to find where those files are and
    either:
    - put the missing files wherever the path says it is looking
    for it.
    - change the paths to the files in the actionscript to where
    they actually are located.
