Triggering pop-up event through drag & drop?

Hi everyone, I'm a newly registered member of this forum.
I've roughly browsed though this forum to seek a solution for my problem, but I can't seem to find a suitable solution (perhaps i should continue looking).
Scenario:
Anyway, I'm facing some technical challenges in flex as I'm relatively new to it.
I'm trying to create a web application, where users use drag & drop to input information.
I visualize this process:
User selects icon from a list
User drags the icon onto target area
User releases icon over target area
Pop-up appears with a form for users to input information.
Users input information and submits
Information is stored in the database.
Present knowledge:
Because I'm new to Flex, I tried to break this down and learn by components:
I'm able to:
Create a drag & drop effect
Create connection to database using HttpService
Main Problem:
I'm able to use the drag and drop functionality but I cannot trigger a pop-up event when the icon is dropped onto the target area.
Sorry if the problem seems a little insignificant due to my lack in knowledge.
I'm just a student trying to learn. Hope that someone can help me out here, or provide me with relevant links to learning resources.
Thanks in advance,
Jord

Hi,
thanks so much for replying, but I would really appreciate a little bit more help.
I vaguely understand the concepts of DragEvent.DRAG_DROP, but I'm not really familiar with the syntax of how to cause allow a pop-up to appear.
This is how my script look like:
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.events.DragEvent;
import mx.containers.Box;
import mx.managers.DragManager;
import mx.core.DragSource;
import mx.collections.ArrayCollection;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
[Embed("IconAssets/1.gif")]
[Bindable]
public var personalAsset:Class;
[Embed("IconAssets/2.gif")]
[Bindable]
public var investment:Class;
[Bindable]
private var iconValue:uint;
private function iconDrag (event:MouseEvent, value:uint):void
var dragInitiator:Image = event.currentTarget as Image;
var dragSource:DragSource = new DragSource();
dragSource.addData(value, 'value');
var dragProxy:Image = new Image();
dragProxy.source = event.currentTarget.source;
DragManager.doDrag(dragInitiator, dragSource, event, dragProxy);
private function dragOver(event:DragEvent):void
var dropTarget:Box=event.currentTarget as Box;
if (event.dragSource.hasFormat('value'))
dropTarget.setStyle("borderThickness", 5);
DragManager.acceptDragDrop(dropTarget);
private function dragAway(event:DragEvent):void
var dropTarget:Box=event.currentTarget as Box;
revertTarget();
private function dragAccept(event:DragEvent):void
var value:uint = event.dragSource.dataForFormat('value') as uint;
The trigger for the Pop-up should be placed here.
revertTarget();
private function revertTarget():void
fStatement.setStyle("borderThickness", 1);
]]>
</mx:Script>
I'm not sure whether I'm correct to state (in bold, italic, & underline) above that the event trigger for the pop-up should be within that particular function.
The difficulty I'm facing now is that the (structure of the) popup should be written in MXML and yet I have to place them in the ActionScript.
(I sense that I have a fundamental misconception of how this works,so please correct me to the best of your knowledge.)
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone is able to provide me with an example/sample of how this should be done.
With Thanks,
Jord

• How to drag drop a calendar item to a time in next week ?

Hi
creating a event through a big menu is fine ... but a very elegant and quick way is to select the cells and write the event. similarly, drag-drop a event is super easy way to re-schedule an event to another time. when i have 20-30 events to re-schedule from current to next week, drag-drop is best.
however, i am unable to do that. when i drag drop, i cant drop it to next week (i am using weekly view to be able to select any time of destination day for drop - the bi-weekly or monthly views don't allow choice of destination time)
this could be implemented in two ways :
1. in current weekly view, if the drag crosses the boundary, calendar shifts to the next (or previous) week. and then i drop the event.
2. there can be a option to see upto 2 weeks in columns just like 1 week view. i understand that the columns will be too tight but the fullscreen option makes it very usable.
or, you can suggest your own work-around.

instead of using target, try using currentTarget...
event.currentTarget.startDrag();
event.currentTarget.stopDrag();

• Drag Drop Event

Hello All,
Can I trap the Drag and Drop event of a file from desktop through Scripting for Adobe Bridge.
Thank you all in advance.
Regards
Farzana.

I haven't seen such an event available to the scripts. I have an event handler and when I turned on my own logging to output all the events that I see, I didn't see any drag/drop events when I tried that operation. That doesn't mean there isn't someother way to do this, but it wasn't obvious to me through normal event handling.

• Media not copying into event when drag and dropped

When I add media files into an event by dragging and dropping the file into the project the file does not get moved/copied 'Macintosh's HD Projects' folder.
Is there a setting somewhere I can change so dragging and dropping behaves the same way as when I use CMD+I to import a file?
I am using the most up-to-date version of FCPX in Mavericks.

How are you determining this? And what version are you using? Media doesn't get copied to project folders; it get copied to Original Media sub folders in event folders. Or it gets left in its original location with aliases pointing to the actual media.
If you're using 10.1, try dragging to the single-star event icon in the Library list pane and then look inside Original Media..

• Drag & Drop kills Tree Change event

I have a tree that I am dragging from to a HorizontalList.
Anyway, I have the actual drag and drop working fine. However, my
tree has a handler for it's change event so that when the selected
item changes, a web service lookup is initiated. After the drag and
drop the tree appears to have a different item selected, however
the change event does not fire. Also if I manually click on the
same row that already appears selected, the event fires and my
lookup is kicked off.
It's like after the drag drop the tree's selected item
appears selected VISUALLY but the tree does not know it is the
selected item.
HELP PLEASE.
P.S. - I am using Flex 2.01 by the way.

The trick is not to use the tree drag* properties of the
control and instead use the DragManager to do custom drag and drop.
This allows to listen to mouse down events and evaluate
whether to useDragManager.doDrag() to initiate a drag.

• Mail doesn't attach files through dragging and dropping the files!

Help please,
Mail doesn't attach files through dragging and dropping the files on OS X ML, it crashes for a while !!

Open Disk Utility and Repair disk permissions on the First Aid tab.
Then, Restart and boot into Recovery Mode by holding down cmd-r on restart until you see a gray screen. When the Mac boots, you will be presented with some options. Choose Disk Utility and select your Hard drive volume (Macintosh HD is the default name). Then, on the First Aid tab, click Repair Disk (not permissions).
If that doesn't help, you could try installing the 10.8.2 combo updater from the Apple Downloads site:

• Autoscolling on mouseMove without Drag & Drop

I would like to create a JPanel that automatically scrolls in the direction of the mouse cursor in the same manner as the automatic scrolling that can be done with Drag & Drop. The difference is that I don't want the user to have to press the mouse button - I want them to simply place the mouse in a region of the panel near the border.
Does anyone suggest how I can do this? I tried using a custom DragGestureRecognizer that would recognize a mouseMove into the border region as a dragStart, but the DragGestureListener that handles the dragging ever only gets dragEnd events (which I take to mean that some JDK code in the middle somewhere is noticing the mouse button is not down so cancels the drag). I've tried having a separate thread that wakes up whenever a mouse enters the region near the border (instead of doing the drag gesture thing) that contiuously scrolls the view until the mouse exits the region, and it sort of works, but the visual effect is a choppy scroll two steps forward, scroll one step back kind of look. I'm guessing I have a multithreading issue where two threads are trying to draw the screen at slightly different views.
Any other suggestions or sample code on how to do such a thing would be appreciated.

By searching through these forums I've been able to piece together a solution. I won't show my ugly unrefactored code with bad dependencies, but the description should suffice:
First, I created a JPanel subclass that defines for itself 8 regions near its edges (north, south, east, west, northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest). This class also contains a timer. The constructor takes in the vertical and horizontal JScrollBar of the JScrollPane that will eventually contain it (ugly, I know, but I haven't refactored it yet).
The class has a mouseMotionListener that detects wether scrolling should be done and if so in what direction. It does this by comparing the mouseEvent location to the varoius regions.
When the mouse enters a scroll region from a non-scroll region, the timer starts. If it enters a scroll region from a different scroll region, scroll direction is recalculated. If it enters a non-scroll region, the timer stops.
When the timer fires (it fires periodically until stopped), an actionEvent handler in the class increments or decrements the scrollbars as appropriate.
Sounds rather simple, but it took me countless tries at various things to get it to work.

• Drag & Drop in Picture Control

How can we implement dragdrop control in picture control?

Hi Sree ram,
Four events are triggered in conjuction with drag&drop operations for picture control.
ONDRAG,ONDROP,ONDROPCOMPLETE,ONGETFLAVOUR.
Register the events using set handler method and handle them in thier respective methods.

Translation: So, the new library is completed. But it contains only one third of the originally imorted photos, and all the custom folders are gone, but when I open the library in the source list I can drag the photos back on the desk. SUPER!
Unfortunately, with the repair another problem arises. Suddenly, some photos no longer can be viewed. Once I click on a photo, instead of the enlarged a black exclamation mark will photo pop up.
Help! What can I do now?
Click on the Create button.

• Shared library aggravation -- flags and drag/drop broken

I've got a MacBook Air. My wife has a MacBook. Both are running OS X 10.7.2 and iPhoto 9.2.1 (most recent update of iPhoto '11). And shared photo libraries are driving us nuts.
My wife wanted to grab a few photos from my iPhoto library. I figured this would be simple... enable sharing in the preferences, click the shared library in the source list, and "it just works." Nope. To be clear, I'm talking about libraries shared over a network, using the setting in iPhoto's preferences. There are several oddities with the way shared libraries work that are just awful. I really hope I'm just doing something wrong.
1. Flagging. iPhoto will let you flag photos in a shared library... but they don't appear in your flagged photos in the source list. You can't create a smart album from them. You can't create a album from them. You can't create an event from them. You can't search for them. In fact, near as I figure, you can't really do anything at all with those flagged photos in the shared library, other than toggle the flag overlay.
So, iPhoto lets you flag photos in the normal way in a shared library, but doesn't collect those flagged photos in the normal way. This is probably the worst possible scenario. My wife happily flagged photos in a large albumn of mine for an hour. Then, she couldn't understand why those photos weren't collected in the Flagged section of her library's source list. She would have to go back through all 1,700 photos to find the ones she wanted again. She. Was. ******.
2. Ratings. Same as above. iPhoto will let you rate photos in a shared library, but that rating seems to affect only the rating overlay image. Disconnect from the shared library, and your ratings disappear (so do your flags).
3. Drag/drop is broken. You can drag/drop images from the shared library to the local library. But you cannot drag/drop from the shared library to the desktop (or elsewhere in Finder). This differs from the standard iPhoto behavior, where drag/drop from iPhoto to any folder works.
These things are problems. They're problems because shared libraries look just like the local library. When the user interacts with them, they should act like the local library.
Do shared libraries work similarly for others? Are my wife and I just "lucky" here? Or are these bugs in iPhoto?

Sorry, I was a bit ranty last night.
I'll ask a more specific question: do you see the same behavior when you connect to a shared library? That is, can you toggle the flag overlay and set ratings, both of which appear to do nothing and do not persist after disconnecting?
Our iPhoto libraries are large (>10k photos each) and have been upgraded across multiple versions of iPhoto. I'm wondering if there's something broken on our specific Macs, or if this is really an iPhoto bug.

• Effect on Sprite breaks drag&drop mechanics

Hello,
I've a problem with applying effects to a number of SpriteVisualElements.
I had set up a grid of said sprites and could drag and drop them around using the startDrag() and stopDrag() methods.
I then decided to use effects to somehow animate these sprites when I click or drag them, and chose to play the effects in the handler of the MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP event.
Things still work, but.... some effects break the drag&drop operation.
The first time I drag or click the sprites everything works fine, but when I try to drag them again after the effect has been played once they won't drop. I can see the sprites move along with the mouse cursor as i drag them, but when I release the mouse button the sprites jump back to their starting position instead of dropping where I've just dragged them.
This happens only on individual sprites once the effect has been played on them a first time. After that the effect still plays each time (meaning that the MOUSE_UP event is dispatched), but they won't drop.
I'm also tracking the coordinates of the sprites as they are dragged, using a label I update through the MOUSE_MOVE event. The sprites' coordinates update normally the first time I drag&drop them, but then, after the effect is played for the first time, the coordinates won't update either.
This only happens with effects that affect the sprites' appearance: s:Animate (scaleX, scaleY), s:Rotate, s:Scale.
The only one that seems to work without causing any problem is s:Move. Don't understand why.
Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks a lot

Oh, I see. Thanks.
So... i should use the "normal" flex drag&drop.
There is just a problem, the documentation says:
The following Flex features are not supported in mobile applications:
No support for drag-and-drop operations
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flex/mobileapps/WSf3db6597adcd110e19124fcb12ab3a1c319-8000.htm l#WSca1097f1363f276f-8bfd51512ba1a8112c-8000
I had to work my way around this limitation one time in the past. I assumed that those lines referred to list-based controls only and I figured that maybe I could manually implement drag&drop with my custom components, which I did. It worked quite well, but unfortunately it also made the mouse cursor appear beneath my fingertip. It was very annoying and I couldn't find a way to get rid of it.
I also thought about implementing the "flex" drag&drop using TouchEvents instead of MouseEvents (maybe that was the cause of the problem, I thought), but the DragManager.doDrag() method requires a MouseEvent as argument.... and that's when I decided to switch to the more basic .startTouchDrag() and stopTouchDrag() methods.
Now, is there something else I could try?
How do other people (more experienced than me) implement their drag&drop mechanics, for starters?
Thank you :-)

• Drag Drop List to List

I have a source list and a destination list. I want to submit
the contents of the destination list via my sendformdata function
along with the other formitems.
Here are my source/dest lists.
<mx:VBox dropShadowEnabled="true">
<mx:Label text="Available Loops"/>
<mx:List id="srclist" width="300" height="150"
allowMultipleSelection="true"
dragEnabled="true" dropEnabled="true"
dragMoveEnabled="true" labelField="category"
dataTipFunction="myLabelFunc" showDataTips="true"
alternatingItemColors="[#ece8ff, #ffffff]">
</mx:List>
</mx:VBox>
<mx:VBox>
<mx:Label text="Patched Loops"/>
<mx:List alternatingItemColors="[#ece8ff, #ffffff]"
id="destlist" width="200" height="150"
allowMultipleSelection="true"
dragEnabled="true" dropEnabled="true" dragMoveEnabled="true"
labelField="category"/>
</mx:VBox>
user drags one or more items from the source to dest list.
This works great.
Now I need to pass the dropped/selected data in destlist to
myobj, along with the other form items. How?
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
private function sendFormdata():void {
var myobj:Object = new Object();
myobj.name = myname.text;
myobj.email = myemail.text;
myobj.entry = myentry.text;
myobj.entrycomment = myentrycomment.htmlText;
myobj.selectedcats= destlist.????
cfdataInsert.addData({user:myobj})
]]>
</mx:Script>
Second part of my question is that I want the value of
myobj.selectedloops to be a comma separated list of categoryid
numbers (e.g. 1,3,5). My query, that populates the source list via
the remoteobject contains categoryid,category, and description
columns. I currently display the category in the labelField of the
list, but I need to submit the categoryid to the DB.
data comes from...
<mx:RemoteObject
id="cfdata" showBusyCursor="true"
destination="ColdFusion"
source="da8.Constellation.entries">
<mx:method name="getCats" result="getCats_result(event)"
/>
</mx:RemoteObject>
getCats ColdFusion function...
<cffunction name="getCats" access="remote"
returntype="query">
<cfset var CatData = "">
<cfquery name="CatData" datasource="#DSN#">
select categoryid,category,description
from Categories
order by category
</cfquery>
<cfreturn CatData />
</cffunction>
and then this function populates the srclist with the
data....
public function getCats_result(event:ResultEvent):void
srclist.dataProvider = event.result as ArrayCollection;
destlist.dataProvider =[];
How do I pass the resulting destlist categoryids to
myobj.selectedcats ?
I don't know how the ArrayCollection organizes the query and
how to reference the categoryid in the srclist and destlists.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Don

• Urgent! Adobe killed drag/dropping workflow in CC. Help restore it!

I posted this first FR at the end of another thread, here. Due to the importance of this issue, IMO, I'm giving this FR a new thread, plus adding as second version of the same FR.
My stance is simple. Every change Adobe makes to Premiere Pro should be positive to most or all people. If a change Adobe makes is negative for most or all people, then it must be removed.
Adobe did a negative change in CC, which brings about zero positive improvements (unless proven otherwise which has not been done yet).
In CC, drag-dropping clips no longer = dropping what you're dragging! If you only have a video track source patched, audio doesn't get dragged to the Timeline. If you only have an audio track source patched, video doesn't get dragged to the Timeline.
This is contrary to the way it worked in CS6 (where it made sense): drag drop clip = same clip dropped, regardless of Timeline settings!
Please help fix this by sending the following FRs as your own or writing a FR of your own based on this new problem Adobe introduced in CC. Thank you and God bless all those that care enough about Premiere to take action!
VERSION 1 (revert back to CS6)
*******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
Drag/Dropping video with audio clip from Source Monitor or Project window to Timeline should include both video and audio... always!
How would you like the feature to work?
The way it did in Premiere Pro CS6:
A. Video with audio dragged from Project window = video with audio dropped in Timeline
B. Three drag/dropping options from Source monitor, regardless of Source Patch settings. Drag/drop:
1. Source Monitor Image = Video + Audio
2. 'Drag Video Only' button = Video only
3. 'Drag Audio Only' button = Audio only
In CC, these options no longer work properly depending on Source Patching. This makes no sense, and provides zero benefits to the editor!
Why is this feature important to you?
Because intelligent workflows matter! There's nothing intelligent or efficient about the Source Monitor's buttons working some times but not others, or drag/dropping a clip from the Project window only to find its audio doesn't appear in the Timeline. When drag and dropping clips, Source Patching should determine default clip PLACEMENT, Not WHAT gets dragged to the Timeline!
VERSION 2 (give us a choice!)
*******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature: Preferences window option to disable Source Patching's effect on drag/dropped clips.
How would you like the feature to work?
If Adobe can't/won't revert drag/dropping back to functional CS6 standards, whereby clip dragged = same content dropped regardless of Timeline settings, then please give us the option of turning off CC's new drag/dropping behavior through a new check box option in the Preferences Window: "Source patching affects Drag/dropping".
Checked = CC behavior
Unchecked = CS6 behavior
Why is this feature important to you?
Because respecting workflows matters! CS6 and prior Premiere editors had their workflows disrespected when Adobe suddenly changed drag/dropping behavior with zero apparent benefits in return. Please give us a choice in this matter or revert to CS6's intelligent drag-dropping altogether.

Because respecting workflows matters! CS6 and prior Premiere editors had their workflows disrespected when Adobe suddenly changed drag/dropping behavior with zero apparent benefits in return. Please give us a choice in this matter or revert to CS6's intelligent drag-dropping altogether.

• Can anyone tell me why iTunes don't let me drag&drop DTS files?

hello,
can anyone tell me what should I do to be able to play DTS audio files with iTunes (Windows 7).
I connected my PC (via optical output) to a 5.1 receiver and everything is ok until I try to drag&drop DTS audio files to iTunes and try to playing them, with VLC ther is no problem playing those files.

so basicaly, even if I'm a big fan of iTunes (and all the Apple devices ), there is no way to play DTS files through iTunes . now I'm force to use other players for that, maybe in the future, Apple will take this matter in consideration and do something
DTS files also will not play on iPod, iPad, iPhone and Apple TV. I am afraid I see little chance Apple will every add support to iTunes for DTS files.
The best I can suggest is that if you have an Apple device and hence need to use iTunes, you can either convert the DTS files, or use iTunes for your other media and Windows Media Player for the DTS files. You could also set WMP to be able to play the MP3, AAC, or Apple Lossless files you have in iTunes.
Note: WMP is not really up to the job of handling AIFF, WAV, or Podcast files.
Yes it really is possible to get WMP to play Apple Lossless files. I have my entire collection in Apple Lossless and with the right addons I have WMP12 in Windows 7 able to play Apple Lossless, to put them in the right Music section, and to also automatically read the meta-tags in Apple Lossless files including the embedded artwork.
By using both iTunes and WMP you could have iTunes handle the syncing to your Apple device, and use WMP to play files.
