Triple address when replying

I have a curious problem. As far as I can tell, this only happens when replying to email sent to me from cox.net. When I reply, the address of the person gets listed three times in the To: box. It will look something like this:
"[email protected]> <[email protected]" <[email protected]>
My email still gets to the person. As far as I know, they only receive one email from me, though I haven't asked them whether they are getting triple responses.
My internet provider is cox.net.
Any idea what is going on? TIA.
Al

Al,
this is a long-standing bug in Mail (I reported it to Apple back in April 2007 and it was subsequently marked as a duplicate of another bug).
It seems as if nobody sees a reason to fix this as it seems to be cosmetic only (messages get delivered correctly).
IIRC, this happens with headers in the form
From: <[email protected]>
(no full name, and using brackets).

  • How to include Reply-To addresses when reply to multiple emails

When reply to multiple email messages in Mail, I follow the instructions by Aral Balkan(http://aralbalkan.com/1136),
But the problem is, it only reply the "From" field address for multiple emails. The "To", "CC" and "Reply-To" field addresses are not included. How can I manage to reply to all Reply-To addresses for multiple email messages in Mail?

Did you ever get a reply to this question or did you manage to solve the issue in any way or shape? I am experiencing the same so eager to hear a solution.
    Thanks!

  • Using specific email address when replying

I have a little problem. I have four email accounts in my mail program and I, more than often, forget to switch my "from" email address to the one that correlates to the right "to" email address.
For example, I have a University email account. When I write emails to fellow students and faculty I accidently send it from my personal gmail address and many times that makes my email turn into spam when it gets to the University server. This keeps people from getting it.
In preferences I have it set up to send new mail from account of last viewed mailbox. This is what gets me into trouble.
Is there any way to assign an email address to respond to other email addresses (i.e. make my university email address be used in the "from" section when it's responding to another university "to" address)?
    Thanks in advance
    Tim

Well on the bright side, it usually only takes a few weeks to develop a new habit
I'll keep this thread in mind and if I ever run across a way to do this I'll let you know

  • Wrong "To:" Address when Replying

    Hi,
I've set up a new IMAP account in Mail 6.6, and created two aliases by adding them to the appropriate, "Email Address", field in Preferences > Accounts.
As a test, I sent an email from the new account using one of the aliases as the, "From:", and the main account address (ie. the account to which the alias is attached) as the, "To:".  It arrived just fine, and shows as being from the alias, as expected.
However, if I choose to, "Reply To:", or, "Reply-To All:" from within this received email, the, "To:" field contains the address the email was received by (the main account address) instead of the address the email was sent from (the alias).  Additionally, the, "From:" drop-down menu is the alias—though I think this is expected behaviour.
I opened the same email in Mutt, and performing a, "Reply", or, "Reply-To All:", causes the correct, "To:", address to be generated by default: the alias.
I've viewed the headers and the, "Return-Path:", and, "From:", addresses are the alias, as would be expected.  I can't find any reason why Mail would not choose the alias as the Reply-To address.
    Is this a bug?

Go to Settings>Store and sign out of the wrong iTunes account and sign into the one with your correct email address.

Problem with replies in Maverick's mail.  Originating emails send fine.  When replying to an email (various addresses) the reply is hung up and can not be sent.  Option becomes put in draft, delete, etc.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  Mid 2013 iMac.

I don't know how rare this is.  I went a week or so without a problem, and now it's starting to recur.  Also, in some instances, an email will look unsent (remain in the outbox on the Treo), but it has been sent, and recipients are replying while I'm trying to figure out what is going on.  Further, it will send the same email over and over during this madness.
This is a show stopper.  If there isn't a software fix soon, I may chuck this phone in the garbage.
Post relates to: Treo 800w (Sprint)
UPDATE:  The problem comes and goes.  The next day, no changes to the treo, everything workeds.  Now i'm suspecting the sprint server, and how it/the phone responds from failing to send while roaming.  I've since turned off roaming, and haven't had a problem for several days.

When replying to an ad, via email, posted on Craig's List , for example, it attempts to use my old email address I had with IE, then fails to connect with the ad's author. How do I get it to only use my gmail address with Firefox?

  • Mail address scrambled when replying

    Hi,
A user in our company has the following problem on his Mac running Yosemite.
When replying to specific users the address of these users is changed to an undeliverable address.
The users' normal address looks like [email protected], but replying makes the address change to something like this:
    </o=Company name/ou=Exchange Administrative Group /cn=Recipients/cn=f6d0033310534960a6fb8f49d8653620>
Sending to this address results in an non-deliverable reply.
It only happens with users whose mailboxes are on the same mailserver this user is on, but in a seperate addressbook (we're a hosting company). /the server is Exchange 2013 (latest SP and updates).
Right now this user corrects the mailaddress each time he encounters this, but he would like this be solved.
Anyone who has a clue where the problem might be?

No one who has this problem as well? The problem occurs again after a couple of days after fixing the addresses.

  • Outlook hangs when replying to a message from a specific email address.

My users are a mix of Outlook 2007 and 2010 and we have an onsite Exchange 2010 SP3 environment. They can receive email and send new messages to the vendor's email address, but when anyone reply's to a message from that vendor, Outlook times-out. They have
to kill Outlook and restart it. Again, this only happens when replying to an email from this specific vendor. I've confirmed this by having this vendor send me just a plain test message with no attachments and I received the email promptly. When I reply to
the message, Outlook hangs and eventually times-out. I tried playing with the Outlook Account Settings/Server Timeout settings but that didn't help.
No issues have occurred if we use OWA and reply to the same email address.
Not sure if this helps, but the vendor email address ends with .ca

    Hi,
Please take your time to collect some information for troubleshooting:
Does this issue occurred on all outlook clients?
Please try to disable any anti-virus software to check this issue.
Are there any 3rd part mail scanning software?
    Thanks,
    Best Regards.

  • When I send an email from one email address, the reply is always received in another email account?

When I send an email from one email address, the reply is always received in another email account?
    Thank you,
    Alain

In Mail preferences under composing tab, check to see what you have for sending new messages from.
You can also check the account settings and make sure you have the correct SMTP server for each account and the correct settings for each. Also check the box to use only that server for the account so it doesn't switch to another accounts server without asking if there is a failure with one.

  • How do I select a sender when replying/forwarding email on z10?

    Current setup:
I have a Gmail and two other accounts. All mail from two other accounts is forwarded to Gmail.
I set up all three accounts on Z10.
When composing a new email, I can select any of the three accounts as a sender.
When replying to / forwarding a message, the sender is always set as Gmail, regardless of which address the message was sent to.
    Question:
Is there any way to select a sender for reply/forwarded message on Z10 from the list of email accounts?
Please do not offer to switch off forwarding; I am not going to check three emails on other computers I use to work with emails.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Currently, you can't change the sender when replying or forwarding. It will use whatever account the mail came from on the device.

  • When replying to a message in iMail, the message isn't being marked as "replied"

I am running OS X Lion 10.7.4 on a new MacBook Pro (mid 2012). I am noticing that when I reply to a message in iMail, often times the message is not marked as being replied to. This stays true if I forward the message also.
    Any thoughts?
    Mike

There is a way to turn off reply quoting.
Tools menu > account settings > composition and addressing and turn off "Automatically quote the original message when replying."
There is no option to just drop components of a message selectively, either you quote it in the reply or you do not.

  • When using yahoo mail on firefox, when replying to emails the first letter has started to not record/appear. not an issue with my clicking, rather firefox recording the letter/digit. this does not appear to be an issue on Safari or Chrome.

first digit typed when replying to an email on yahoo mail on firefox is not appearning. not an issue on safari or chrome browsers.

I believe that our “Werbung problem” adds an additional second hyperlink to the pop-up window. This second link is activated whenever you trigger a saved hyperlink to a Mail.com site.
I had the same problem and eliminated it by deleting all bookmarks, hyperlinks and automatic links that take firefox to a mail.com address. So I just deleted all bookmarks I had saved for mail.com. I also changed my home page link because it also went to my email at mail.com. I then did a warm boot, opened firefox and re-saved my bookmarks and homepage to the desired addresses. Good luck.

  • Getting rid of code when replying in Mail and closing original message

When replying to an e-mail, the To/From/Subject lines get expanded with several lines of code. Is there a way to prevent this?
Also, is there a preference that tells the original message to close upon reply?

Thanks V.K. I read your previous post, and that's where I learned about deleting in the previous recipients list. The only thing I sync with is my iPod Touch, but I haven't done that since deleting the addresses. If I do as you suggest, won't I lose all my mail and address book information?
no, that would only clear the previous recipients list. it won't touch the address book. but if you got it fixed then you don't need to do that.
That would be worse than having to deal with the wrong address situation. Also, when I deleted the addresses, I used the keyboard delete key. I think that's the problem, as I went back and deleted something using the "delete" button on the recipients list page instead, and it worked the way it's supposed to.

  • Cannot change From when replying

[Originally part of a discussion in the Admin Forum but moved here as looks like a Client specific issue]
Users have full proxy rights to a Workgroup mailbox. When logged in as themselves they can write a NEW mail and change the From field to the Workgroup address. Mail then goes out as if sent from the Workgroup mailbox and has the Workgroup address in the Reply-To field. But when REPLYING to mail that originally came in to the workgroup address it is not possible to change the From field (It doesn't matter whether the incoming is in a shared folder or forwarded to the individual).
I think this was reported in GW2008 as a possible bug, has it still not been resolved or is there a workaround?
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Turn off selection of text when replying to message.

I have asked this before and received a solution but I am using a different computer now and I can't find the old answer. It was under tools/options/advanced. I want the entire message I am replying to included in the reply and not just any text that happens to be selected. (I wish this was possible for printing also but it wasn't the last time I asked.)
I am using TB 24.5.0 on Win 7.

Tools > Account Settings > Composition & addressing for the mail account
    * Select: Compose messages in HTML format
    * select: Automatically quote the original message when replying
    * select: 'start my reply above the quote' or other option
    if you have a signature:
    * select: place my signature 'below my reply (above the quote) or other option
    * select: include signature for replies
    * select: include my signatur for forwards
    * click on OK to save changes
There is the option to reply quoting only specifc sections of the email.
If you preselect/ highlight any text in the email and then use Reply, you are instructing Thunderbird to only quote highlighted text. This is also the same for printing.
