Trouble creating forms from remote database

Hi,
We are having problems with connecting to remote databases with portal. We can create reports fine from the remote databases but when we try to create forms, it gives the error:
'This Table does not exist or you do not have the required privileges (WWV-13020)'.
We've created a link to the remote db, and synonyms for each of the tables. I don't understand because it seems we can build reports and other components...just not forms.
If anyone has any ideas as to what the problem could be, any assistance you may provide is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Sarah,
It could be dull, but anyway - make sure that you granted all the required grants (INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE) in addition to SELECT to the application schema.
Also, at which step of the wizard you recieve this error?
Thanks,

Dmitry - we're having the same problems...
I've had our DBA team grant us every possible privilage we can find - but I still can't create a form from within the portal to a remote database. The wizard lets me put in the table name, ex. asset.wban_trans@drsrch, and does come up with the proper columns on the layout page of the wizard, but when I click the "Finish" button I get the following errors: Line/Column Error
733/21 PLS-00454: with a returning into clause, the table expression cannot be remote or a subquery
733/9 PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
841/16 PLS-00454: with a returning into clause, the table expression cannot be remote or a subquery
841/9 PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
The form is then listed in my applications list, but if I try and run it I get the following error:
Error: An unexpected error occurred: ORA-04063: has errors
ORA-04063: package body "PORTAL.FORM_0305092506" has errors
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called (WWV-16016)
Thanks for any help....

    I haven't seen the ora-03116 problem.
What version of Portal are you running? Are the databases at the same version? Does your table have longs or anything strange in it?
Can you query the table via the synonyms and link in sqlplus as the application schema? This is a good test because it eliminates Portal.
You should try setting up synonyms etc for the emp table. If you still get the problem then Oracle may be able to replicate it. If not, then there's sth funny about your table maybe.
I agree with Vishnu about creating everything in sqlplus. I create all my links and synonyms in sqlplus. They are all public. I have 2 synonyms: one takes you over the link the other takes you to the right schema. It's flexible and it works.
data database: D grants to P (local schema) on table T
public syn T = D.T (sys) (get the right schema)
portal dbase : public db link to data database connecting as P
public syn T = T@dblink (sys) (over the link)
P is a schema created in both databases.
Test is: P in portal dbase can "select * from T" and gets the right data.
I never, ever refer to a schema when defining a form. ie. never P.T or D.T or whatever. I always refer simply to a synonym. For the above my form would be defined simply on the table T.
    Hope this helps

  • Trouble Creating Forms in Dreamweaver

    Hello,
I am having trouble creating a form in Dreamweaver for my website.  The form is fairly basic, just some contact/comment input required.
I created my webpages using Fireworks CS4 and exported them as HTML and Images.  The basic format of my website is to have a rectangular block in the middle of the page, where the form elements are supposed to be entered.  However, it seems that I cannot simply add a textbox or textarea to the middle of my page.  If I try, everything gets shifted around very strangely.
How can I leave the format of the page intact, but add in the form elements (name, email, comments)?
You can see the page here: http://www.wafflesnjoe.com/preview/contact.htm
    Thank you

Thanks Murray, I had a feeling that that's where I'd be headed.
Is there a more seamless way of transferring webpages from Fireworks to Dreamweaver, such as CSS and Images, that would make it easier for me to work in Dreamweaver?
Would you recommend building websites in Dreamweaver, and not bother with Fireworks?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a newbie.

Subject: Trouble Creating Forms in Dreamweaver
I'm not very familiar with Dreamweaver, so this may be a basic question to ask.
The trick is to be familiar with HTML, not DW, since HTML underlies everything that DW does, and that you want to do on a web page.
To add a form to a page without disrupting the layout of the page, you have to a) select a layout design that constitutes good practice, and b) build the layout so that it accommodates the form.  I know that's not a very satisfactory answer.
First of all, unless you are fairly familiar with HTML, your layout will not be easy to implement because you will need to constrain the form and its elements to fit vertically within that central area.  This is not so easy because you have no way of controlling how large or small I (as a visitor) am displaying my text in my browser.  Thus, that form's content is going to expand or contract vertically causing the boxed area to need to expand or contract accordingly.  This is layout 101 for an experienced developer, but may just push you over the edge if you have no HTML under your belt.  So, I would discourage you from trying to use this design.  Is that possible?

    Hello,
this forum is dedicated to APEX Listener, a web server alternative for AEPX. I guess you actually wanted to post in {forum:id=137}. I'd recommend to open a new thread there and mark this thread as answered.

    hi
what are the apps version local and remote database???
Snapshot too old errors occur because Oracle can 't reconstruct a consistent
image of a block for the purposes of a consistent read.
I feel at remote database, you are using UNDO, it will be rather easy to iincrease the undo retention time or increase the undo tablespace size.. if you are dealing with roll back segments, you may have rollback segments whose optimal values are too small...
increase roll back segments size and select again then

  • Xmltype data can't be copied from remote database

    Hi,
I got the following same error when copy table with xmltype from different env:
    table localXML(xml xmltype);
    insert into localXML select * from remoteXML@romote;
    1. run from db tools:
... Physical database connection acquired for: local
12:07:41 [INSERT - 0 row(s), 0.000 secs] [Error Code: 22992, SQL State: 99999] ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
    ... 1 statement(s) executed, 0 row(s) affected, exec/fetch time: 0.000/0.000 sec [0 successful, 0 warnings, 1 errors]
    2. run from sqlplus
ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
The above script runs well if two tables are in same database.
Did any one have solution on this?
    Thanks.
    John

The standard workaround for this one is to create a synonym or such on the be called object and then do the insert selecting via the synonym. Search google for ORA-22992 and "asktom" and see if this workaround for LOB's also works for xmltype (CLOB) columns/tables.
What's your database version and how was the remoteXML table created (DDL) ???

  • Getting LONG RAW from remote database

    Hi,
I have a table in my local database that has a LONG RAW column . I have another table of similar structure in a remote database (so it has LONG RAW as well). I would like to transfer data including LONG RAW data from the remote database into the local database table using PL/SQL. I know it is not possible to copy LONG RAW over dblink directly. Can anyone suggest an approach to accomplish this?
The local table cannot be changed to BLOB, but I have the flexibility to change the remote table to use BLOB. So, can anyone tell me if the following solution would work. If so, can you shed some light on what PL/SQL libraries to use or can you provide me with some sample code to implement steps 3 and 4 below?:
    1. Change the remote table to use BLOB
    2. Create a new temporary table with BLOB in the local database.
    3. Copy data using PL/SQL from remote BLOB to local temporary table BLOB.
    4. Copy data using PL/SQL from BLOB to LONG RAW within the local database from temporary table (w/ BLOB) to the actual target table (w/ LONG RAW).
I think step 3 can be a direct Insert-Select from remote table (I'll try this myself), but not sure how to go about step 4.
    Thanks for your help.

There is a chapter in the Oracle Application Developer's Guide on calling external procedures
I don't know enough about VB and the available VB APIs to know for sure. I would assume that VB could be configured to generate a DLL with a C call specification. I would also assume that there was a VB API that would allow you to manipulate LONG RAW and BLOB data. Unfortunately, though, I don't know which VB API's have that functionality.

.Net is GUI.Daniel raised a very important point. Moving that document via another database doubles the network load for that operation. And doubles the performance impact on the client.
Is this in any way a sensible thing to do? Most definitely not.
Assuming that the client cannot reach the remote database containing the documents, and that can only be done via the local database, then you need to look at options such as materialised views. Replicate the remote content from the remote database to the local database at regular intervals.
As the data set is large (containing LOB documents), consider fast incremental refreshing (and not pull the entire data set across with each refresh).
Yes, you can write PL/SQL code that grabs the remote document and copies it into a local LOB and then dish that up to the client. But the impact of this on the network and performance are major concerns that need to be thoroughly evaluated first.

  • Creating forms then a database to store the info

I posted this question on the Acrobat forum, then realized perhaps I should be here. All of the different software is mindboggling to me. I am trying to find the proper platform to create forms to be filled out by customers with product problems or complaints, then the data entered would be dropped into a database for retrieval and review at the company. Other than the contact information, the questions used would mostly be Y or N, not open ended. I have Designer 7.0 but I'm not sure if this is the proper way to go. And if it is, how do I go about getting the data from the forms to a usable format. I did a customer survey a few months ago in Designer (my first attempt at using it), and tho I got back usable info, manipulating it into a database was not exactly smooth. In review the forums I found LiveCycle Forms. Should I be asking there?
I'm sure there is a good way to do this, I just don't know how to wade thru all of the potential software to find what I need. As a mainframe programmer in a former life, I know all of this is possible, I just need some direction. Thanks for any help you can offer.

following link provides a reasonable description of OLEDB
    http://database.ittoolbox.com/documents/popular-q-and-a/odbc-vs-oledb-2412
    In summary, is says
"OLEDB is the successor to ODBC, a set of software components that allow a "front end" such as GUI based on VB, C++, Access or whatever to connect with a back end such as SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, mySQL etal. In many cases the OLEDB components offer much better performance than the older ODBC.
OLEDB is a different type of data provider that came about with MS's Universal Data Access in 1996 and does not require that you set up a DSN. It is commonly used when building VB apps and is closely tied to ADO. It works with COM, and DCOM as of SQL 7.0."
So basically, is it a method to connect to the database. It does not restrict you to use a particular database product, as long as you find drivers for it - and most database providers also provide OLEDB drivers.
More info available all over the new using keyword OLEDB.

  • How do I create forms from a scan document

I work with scans and regular pdf docs which require text boxes to be placed and then text added. Some of the text is repetitive like Name and Address etc but some maybe unique like price and quantity. How do I create a form so all blank spaces or underlined spaces get a text box and is it possible to add a macro which will fill the text boxes with the repetitive stuff. Thanks

You will need the Professional version of Acrobat because this version provides the Acrobat Forms Tool and LiveCycle Designer program either of which can create form fields. You choice of product will depend upon what you want to accomplish and how well either product will meet that need. Both products can connect to SQL data bases and both can import data from properly formatted files.
You might want to OCR the scans and add tags to the elements of the OCRed document so you could use the "automatic field recognition" feature of version 8. Not perfect, but it could save work.
