Trouble Setting Up Mail

Hi,
I should be receiving my MacBook Pro in a couple days and want to set up Mail. My college's e-mail, however, doesn't work on MacMail. Is there a way to MAKE it work? I go to a PC school (unfortunately) and I want to use the Mail feature on my Mac. Another option is to have all my e-mail forwareded to G-Mail and set G-Mail to my Mac Mail, but I want the original sender's name to appear, not my own e-mail address. Is there a way to do that? Any tips? Thanks.

Hello Bill.
The Mail.app supports accessing an Exchange Account.
An Exchange account allows you to connect to your Exchange server via IMAP, and if you enter text in the Outlook Web Access Server field, Mail filters non-email related content from the server. (You can get the text you need to enter from your mail account provider.)
For Exchange to work with Mail, Exchange administrators need to configure the Exchange server for IMAP access. Some system administrators may refer to an Outlook Web Access Server as an Internet Information Services (IIS) server.

I am trying to set up Mail, but I am having some difficulties with the information I need to add. For example, what is account type (POP, IMAP, Exchange), description and outlook web access server?

POP3 and IMAP are two common protocols for receiving e-mail. Exchange is an e-mail server common in corporate environments.
Whatever is supplying you with e-mail service should have resources available for you to help you with this issue.

  • Having trouble setting up Mail with a POP account

I am trying to set up Mail with my Universities webmail service, and according to their tech page I need to set it to POP. I also made sure that I have the incoming and outgoing mail servers correct, and i've made certain that I am entering my username and password correctly. But when it loads and trys to get my mail it says that the password I supplied is incorrect, but I know that's not true. I am absolutley sure that both the username and password are entered correctly.
Does anybody know how I might fix this?
p.s. my girlfriend is having the exact same problem, so it isn't just me entering something wrong

I know you said the usernames/passwords are correct but, (if you can), login via webmail using those same strings, see if that works.
Write the text to a note and copy and paste from there so you are sure you've not input something wrongly.
Failing that do a quick keychain first aid too.
If that don't work then I'm out of ideas, (for now at least).

  • Trouble setting POP3 mail service.

I am able to use my Gmail account without any trouble however I would like to also use my POP 3 email account. Currently I am able to receive email using my POP 3 account but when I try to set up and send an email message, I get the following error:
"Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding".
I am assuming that I have a setting incorrectly configured but I don't know what it might be. Again, I receive email just fine but am unable to send. Any suggestions?

i had the same problem (received fine, couldn't send). my internet provider AND verizon had given me the wrong outgoing server settings. i eventually found the correct one here in these forums. give us a little more info.
Charter is easy as that is what I had. In fact if you choose the phone to set up the email automatically it should work fine.
If you choose to set it up manually, unless you have a Charter business account, DO NOT use charterinternet.com settings.
UPDATE, I checked the Charter Web site and the settings for sending mail are correct in the list above.

  • Having trouble setting up email accounts in the mail app?

    Hi Apple community,
I am having trouble setting up my email accounts with the osX mail application. I have two accounts, an outlook and my college email through google. When I try to add the outlook account the prompt says that it cannot connect to the server and when I try my college mail i get the following prompt.
"Trying to log in to the Exchange server “autodiscover-s.outlook.com” failed. Make sure the email address and password you entered are correct, then click Continue."
Please note that my college account is run by gmail and ends in murraystate.edu
    Thanks, Will.

    Hey will,
okay for your college email. Heres what you do.
Try adding your email and wait for the message to come up
Trying to log in to the Exchange server “autodiscover-s.outlook.com” failed. Make sure the email address and password you entered are correct, then click Continue."
Once it does, you will notice 2 extra boxes One says username and the other password. You will notice that the username will not have @murraystate.edu
Add this and continue and this should now be added as an email account and should be able to receive emails as normal.
For your outlook emails, I would recommend using the following article to set it up. It is fairly straightforward.

  • Having trouble setting up e-mail on new iPhone 4s. I would like to sync with my outlook mail, contacts

I am having trouble setting up my email and syncing my outlook calendar wiht my new iphone 4s.

How do you connect to the internet?
Most of the time, the problem lies here. You can try a couple of things. First, try only 3G or carrier data. Then, try only wifi. If that still doesn't work, your only other option is to try a different hotspot.
I had the same problem before when I updated to iOS 4.3. I thought it was the update at first. I usually have the carrier data turned off because my plan doesn't have an unlimited provision for it. I forgot that I also switched ISPs from DSL to a visibility unit package - meaning I had to setup my laptop so that I could get wifi from it. I realized this when I visited a friends house that I knew I could connect properly before.
My problem was with my laptop. It seems that Little Snitch blocks the ports being used for mail and push notifications. I haven't figured it out exactly since I still can't get email when I'm using my laptop connection. But, it works fine when I'm using ONLY 3G or both/wifi only if connected to a different hotspot.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do you access "trouble shoot" for mail.  My AOL account is set up on the mail icon but it some how defaulted to another Wi fi account and could not receive email.  We reset the the Wifi but somehow didn't complete the process.

How do you access "trouble shoot" for mail.  Our AOL account is set up on the mail icon but somehow it defaulted onto another nearby Wifi account while everything else that was running stayed on our router.  We were unable to receive email on the AOL account and were directed to trouble shoot.  We reset the Wifi account but somehow didn't save it correctly.  Now we cannot get back in to reset it again.  Direction??

    Hello
I don't really understand your question. The Mail application cannot independently access a different wifi network from the one your computer is using.
Are you trying to troubleshoot your wifi (ie, you can't get into your own wireless network), or the Mail program (you can't get email)? Are there any error messages you see when you try to do one or the other?

  • I am having trouble setting up a 2nd exchange server e-mail in entourage

I am having trouble setting up a 2nd exchange server e-mail in entourage on a new macbook air.  Trying to set up exactly the same as on iMac but keep getting error message.  Any suggestions?

You need to first set up a new account with the information provided by your university. They should supply you with an email address and you should be able to provide your own password. They should also provide you with the name of the incoming mail server to use as well as the name of the outgoing mail server. They should let you know whether to set up the account as an IMAP account or a POP account (with the servers to match).
If you already have all this information at hand, setting up the email account should be fairly easy. What have you tried thus far?

  • Troubles setting up a virtual mail server

    Hi,
I'm having trouble setting up my email server. It has an Domain name (eg. ftp8.mydomain.com) but not really a Host Name. I guess you could use the same as above (ftp8.mydomain.com), no?
Next, enabled virtual hosting and enter a few domains (eg. thisdomain.com, thatdomain.net, yourdomain.org). I created 3 accounts, 1 for each, for now.
Ran some test. I can send out to other email accounts not on this server. I can send and receive to the same machine (eg. [email protected] to [email protected]).
But I can't receive email from accounts not on this machine.
    What's missing?
    Thanks for any help.
    Frank

    Frank,
    The MX for sofa.on.ca is (sofa.on.ca. 86400 IN MX 1 mail2.dpimac.com.)
The MX record resolves to 216.183.93.88 (mail2.dpimac.com. 86400 IN A 216.183.93.88) which appears to be an OSXS machine. It's running Apache 1.3 -- is this a Tiger or Leopard server?
May I suggest you take a look at this -- maybe it can help you: http://rduonline.com/notes.mgi
Look through the section on setting up VH mail accounts in the SA -- this is where most folks make mistakes.

  • I have trouble setting the trash mailbox behavior. I have set it to delete every month but it has been keeping the trash mails for only about 10 days. Please help.

I have trouble setting the trash mailbox behavior. I have had it set to delete the messages once a month. But lately it has been deleting my messages every 10 days. I have tried choosing different options to set the trash mailbox behavior but has not been successful. Is there anything I can do? Please help.

    Thanks for that advice @randers4.
I linked through and submitted my info as a "topic not covered" in the iCloud section. After entering the serial number of my MBP it turns out I wasn't eligible for technical support (though I don't think this is hardware related support) and the final suggestion was to take my computer into an Apple store. I called my local Apple reseller and asked for assistance. The customer service rep was very nice but unable to help, so suggested I call Apple Support on 1300 321 456. I did so and, again, spoke to two very polite and helpful customer service people (I was transferred to security services). I didn't have to be on hold to speak to either rep for more than a few seconds! After trying a few different things, he worked out what was happening...
So, to cut a long story short, to solve the problem in my OP, all I had to do was log out of iCloud in my System Preferences and log back in using my current Apple ID. [Edited to add that I had to sign out of everything I was currently signed in to with my Apple ID before logging out and in again.]
    Problem solved!

  • Setting up "Mail" on iTouch (new update)

I downloaded the new update along with the new widgets etc. However when i go to "Mail" I only get Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Mac mail, and AOL mail. Could anyone please explain to me how to setup the mail for hotmail? I am having some troubles setting it up. For example, under the setting "Incoming Mail Server" the Host Name, User Name and Password, how do i fill these up? And the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" How do I fill the heading of those out? Seems kind of ignorant adding so many e-mails but not hotmail even though it's one of the most popular emails around. Anyways any help will be appreciated. Thanks
    Nik

    POP3 Server: pop3.live.com (port 995)
    SMTP Server: smtp.live.com (port 25)
Note: Make sure to mark the box that indicates that your "outgoing server requires authentication" since in most email clients, this is not checked by default.
Username: Your full email address (including @hotmail.com or @msn.com)
Password: Your Windows Live ID password
Important: Our POP3 service requires that you use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with the POP and SMTP connection and use SMTP authentication.
This got the system working on my itouch after upgrading to a live plus account. However I cannot choose which emails to retrieve and it;'s only showing me emails from 2007. If anyone can assist I'd appreciate it.

  • How to set-up mail on mac?

I'm a newbie to mac's, only had my 2012 macbook pro 13'' for around a week. Getting used to pretty much everything but having some trouble with the mail. I want to use the mail on mac rather than go into the browser on msn hotmail which I did previously, but, for some reason I cannot seem to get my mail set-up the same way on mac mail as I had it in hotmail.
I want it so like on my hotmail, I can have folders and use the function where you can direct mail to a specific folder, e.g. if you get mail from university, it will go to a 'uni' folder. On msn hotmail you set-up a folder called 'uni' and then on hotmail once you get a first message that you want to go in the 'uni' folder you can right click on it, select 'move to' then tick a box saying do this for all future messages from this sender.
However, I can't seem to do this on my mac? I want it so that it takes the same folders I already have set-up so that everything stays in sync.
    Thanks for any help.

because of the POP3 thing it doesn't seem to sync with both mail mac and hotmail. Does anybody know if I could set something up that makes me recieve messages to my hotmail account, but, then automatically goes to an account that works on mac mail.
    Example;
Apple emails my hotmail account, then my hotmail account automatically forwards it to my icloud email which is on mac mail which if i set-up rules can organise them into folders.
Just that I have had my hotmail account for a long time and that's my account I have set-up for everything and would be too much of a pain to let people know my change of email and companies etc I have my hotmail set-up with.
    Thanks.
