Trouble using web service results

I am trying to consume a .NET generated web service. I successfully generated the
web service based on the WSDL and Apex could see all of the methods/actions.
However, when I make a call to this service, either via the web service test module,
or from the "report on a web service" I don't get a result set that I can use because
all of the < and > are escaped with & lt l; and & gt ; .
I also created a manual reference to one of the methods. Here is the call:

This issue I appear to be having is that when this result is put into the collection and
then converted into XML everything between <GetFacilitySiteAsXmlResult> and
</GetFacilitySiteAsXmlResult> is considered a single string. Therefore using XPath
queries to get the FsID and Common Name doesn't work.
I talked to the developers of this service and they believe this is a character set issue.
I confirmed that my DAD is using UTF-8. So it would appear as though Apex and the
Web Service are on the same page here. The developer followed up with the following:

the string "]]>" in content, when that string is not marking the end of a CDATA section.
In the content of elements, character data is any string of characters which does not
contain the start-delimiter of any markup and does not include the CDATA-

To allow attribute values to contain both single and double quotes, the apostrophe or
single-quote character (') MAY be represented as "'", and the double-quote character (")
as """.Do I need to do something else in order to read and parse this result set as XML
properly?

Novice Help with Creating Opportunities Using Web Services 2.0

Hello,
I recently took over our CRM integration services and was asked to push some data via our custom portal.
We use our portal to automate the creation of new opportunities in our Oracle CRM System.
The code was developed using Web Services 1.0
I was recently asked to add data to the "Parent Opportunity" field upon creation of a new Opportunity. Now I may be mistaken and if I am I will be very pleased, but it seems to me this field isn't available in 1.0
If I am mistaken and there IS a way to push data to the "parent opportunity" field using 1.0 Please completely disregard what I have typed below.
Upon looking at the WSLD for 2.0 I see "ParentoptyID" as an available field.
I took it upon myself to try and move this process over to 2.0 but I have hit a few major stumbling blocks. Here is the working code for 1.0:

What changes might I need to make in order to make this function correctly using Web Services 2.0?
Currently I get the following errors- For every line of input.ListOfOpportunity(0) I get: '..cannot be indexed because it has no default property.'
Another example of an issue I'm running into is: 'SetValue' is not a member of 'nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.ListOfOpportunityData'

We were able to make this work by re-modeling my code after a code sample I found that creates new Activities.

Hi,
I'm using Application Express 4.2.1.00.08 and I'm having problems creating a report on web service result.
This is the tutorial I'm using: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e13363/web_serv.htm (yes, I realize it's intended primarily for APEX 3.2).
I am able to create the web service, but when creating a report on web service result, I get the following error in the last step:
ORA-20001: Unable to create form on table. ORA-02263: need to specify the datatype for this column.
I have tried creating a report on the same web service result on apex.oracle.com (Application Express 4.2.1.00.08) and I don't get the error, and I am able to create the report.
The same thing happens with another web service, so I'm puzzled.
What could be the problem?

I wasn't able to solve the original problem, but I was able to recreate the process manually, using APEX_WEB_SERVICE.PARSE_RESPONSE function, documented here:http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21676/apex_web_service.htm#autoId10

Displaying Web Service Results in a Report

have a web service registered with APEX (GET_DAY_OF_THE_WEEK).
It tests fine from the Web Service References Panel.
I am trying to follow the steps in the Oracle Database Application Express
User's Guide [Release 2.2 Part Number B28550-01] under the Displaying Web
Service Results in a Report topic.
When I get to step 6 = "For Result Tree to Report On, select the portion of the
resulting XML document that contains the information you want to include in the
report." ... THERE IS NO PLACE TO -->"...select the portion of the resulting
XML document that contains the information you want to include in the report".
Is this a bug? Is there a workaround?

Hi,
I'm having a similar problem - I have a work_date column and I want to use a date picker to select tasks performed between 2 dates.
For example, on Page 3 I have a username,client_name and task fields. I have 2 date pickers, one for start date and one for end date, and a submit button.
I want to be able to select '01-AUG-10' from the start_date, then '31-AUG-10' from the end_date, then redirect to a page (Page 41) when I click the button to run this:
select username,client_name,task,work_date
from replicon where
username = :P3_USERNAME and
work_date between to_date(:P3_START_DATE,'DD-MON-RR') and
to_date(:P3_END_DATE,'DD-MON-RR')
order by work_date
but I'm getting this error:
ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected
The date format is "DD-MON-RR', and the work_date column is a "DATE" data type.
The button items are "P3_USERNAME","P3_START_DATE" and "P3_END_DATE" with the same values (&P3_USERNAME etc), and the button redirects to page 41.
I can't see how I can pass the username, start_date and end_date from Page 3 to Page 41. Am I using the correct ITEMS, or is it the query?

How to get the list of values for a dynamic parameter using Web Services SDK?

I am struggling to get the list of values for a dynamic parameter of a report.I am using Java Web Services SDK ... I tried to use PromptInfo.getLOV().getValues() method but it does not work.First of all ... is this possible (to get the list of values for a dynamic param) using Web Services?Second of all, if this is possible, how should I do it ... it seems it works fine when running the report from CMC. It asks for DB logon info and after that it provides a list of values.Thx 

Your assumption is correct. We are trying to get the LOVs from the Crystal Report. I was not aware that this is not supported by Web Services SDK.We used Web Services SDK to integrated the Crystal Reports in our web application. We implemented some basic actions for reports: schedule, view instances, run ad-hoc reports.We encountered this problem when trying to run/schedule reports with dynamic parameters (a list of values from DB). We were unable to get the LOVs.Please let me know if you can think of an alternative to look at.Thanks a lot,Catalin

Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports

Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.

By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.

Please provide support for the above request.
It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

Ejbmodule error while building the external service app using web service

Hi,
I am new to SOA. I have developed an external service application using web service. While buiding the project i am getting the ejb module error which is mentioned below and the remaining five internal projects are getting deployed successfully. Can anyone help me out in resolving this issue.

Invoking a scenario using web service

Hi Experts,
Could anyone pls suggest how to pass variables from SOAP to ODI 11g(11.1.1.6.3)
Here we are using wsdl utility to invoke a scenario using web service and trying to pass a variable like the below
The scenario is triggered successfully without passing a parameter.
But when i try to pass a variable like the below,am getting error
Variables name='PROJECT_CODE'
Variables value='JI-2015'
In ODI 11g, i have generated a scenario with a variable PROJECT_CODE as a declare variable and tried triggering from both the environments
From ODI 11g:
When I try to trigger the scenario from wsdl, in that variable step(in operator), I got error as ODI-17546: Specified variable not found in the Repository
But in the work repository SNP_VAR table I could still see the variable name under VAR_NAME column.
From ODI 10g:
When i try to do the same from odi 10g, the scenario execution is success.
But the variable had taken only NULL value instead of taking the value which i passed from wsdl.
Could you pls advise where am going wrong

What is the best way to deploy application that uses web services?

Hi all,
I'm having some problems figuring out the best way to deploy our app now that we've switched over to using web services.
I'm fairly new to Java and web services. From what I understand, JNLP and WebStart are methods to deploy Java clients to users and not for creating war files and the like.
Here's a little background:
We have a large PowerBuilder/Oracle application. The db consists of over 500 tables and the client consists of several thousand PB components. A user creates "transactions" which contain a series of "sub-transactions" within. Most of the data is collected and stored locally in the client in a series of datastores. When the "finalize" happens, the records are validated and sent to the database.
We are in the process of moving each of the subtransactions (currently in the PB client) into subPROCESSES on a java project. We are using the JAX-WS framework to develop the web services in Netbeans. These web services aren't much more than remote xml as the messaging technology. For writing data back to the database, we are using the Java Persistence API to function outside of an EJB container but will shortly be migrating to the Glassfish application server to use several of the EJB container frameworks including the EntityManager.
We haven't attempted any type of deployment and are unsure of where to start. Any suggestions would be so helpful and appreciated!

It is for launching rich client GUI based (AWT, Swing, SWT..) applications onto the end-user's desktop.
There are some parts of JWS that might seem peripherally useful to the installation of a web-app., but it is really not a 'good fit'.

OutofMemory Error while sending file to database using Web services

I have a file of 30MB to be written to the MySQL database. I am doing this in Axis web services and it gives me the following error:
(I am using Tomcat as the application server and Apache as the web server, Axis 1.3 and MySQL standard 5.0.21 version. I have set the minimum and maximum heap size and it works well without using the web service (just uploading and downloading from the database using a simple java program). Another thing to notice is that I can send a file of almost 10MB size to the database using web service without any problem. But it doesn't work with the 30 MB .)

Sorry for the delayed response here, forget to add it to my watchlist. I didn't catch if you were using Java 1.5 or not. Prior to 1.5 the default maximum heap space was 64MB which with the overhead of the appserver might be your problem.
Take a look at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/vm/gc-ergonomics.html and the java -Xmx <size> command line option to change the default (I believe the size argument is in bytes, but don't hold me to that). I think you can pass that as a command line option to the startup script, but you should check the doco to see if it needs to be wrapped in some other arg etc.,
I seem to recall running into this same problem a few years back when I had a servlet doing some intense graphics processing on the fly and setting this option fixed the problem.

HotFix 2 breaks web service results of type xsd:anyType

I have a client that accesses a number of web services that
return results as type xsd:anyType (the results are complex XML
hierarchies that change according to db values). Before HotFix 2,
in in my ResultEvent.RESULT event handler, I could get access to
the result via the ResultEvent.result property. But since HotFix 2,
the ResultEvent.result property is always null for web services
results of type xsd:anyType (for other result types,
ResultEvent.result is correct).
This is a major nuisance!! I assume this is a bug, so can
anyone suggest any workarounds while I wait for Adobe to fix it? I
can access the result as a string via the EventResult.message.body
member. And from there, I can parse the XML, and perform an
XML-to-ValueObject conversion... does that sound reasonable? Does
anyone have an examples of XML-to-ValueObject conversion code to
help get me started?

Report that uses web services as data source, prompts for database logon

I have a crystal report that uses web services as a data source. When I deploy the report to Infoview it prompts me for a database username and password. Since I am not using a database it should not prompt me for these. I tried various options in the CMC->database settings for this report but it still prompts me for the database logon info or tells me that the database logon information is incorrect.
The report work fine in the Crystal Reports Designer.
Does anyone know how I can prevent this report from prompting me for the database logon info ?

Using web services with flash cs3 and actionscript 3.0

Hi,
I want to use web services under flash cs 3 and by using as
3.0.
It was possible with as 2.0 to do it easily thanks to the
webservice Connector.
But I can't find how to use web services under flash and as
3.0.
I thought web services took part of the many improvements
flash cs 3.0 contain, but obviously it does not:(

How to use web services in JSF app

I am unsure if this is the right forum for this question. Let me know if it is not - and where I should go.
Anyways, I'm building a JSF web app, in which there is a datatable page displaying some business data. The app is going to be deployed and run in the customer's web server, but the data to be displayed is from the business solution provider's database. Currently the provider supplies web services to retrieve the data. So, my task is to call these web services from my JSF page, get and display the data.
I've never used web services before. Can someone give me a quick start, as what I need to know to use these web services, and how to use them in coding terms. I googled the web quite a bit and finally decided to turn to SDN forum.
