Trouble with war file contianing web.xml

I have a problem with my ISP. I have to send a war file to upload my files. It includes my web.xml file, but it seems that it's ignored when i visit my site. Can somebody help me with this. When I run the web.xml file on my own computer it works fine.
I create my war file at the moment with the command jar cvf name.war -C d:\directory .
It also look like a good deploy of the site because everything gets into the right please.
Tnx for the help already

Well when I go to my site and I go into my small Content Management System I press a button and it should call on a page under de alias admintool. In my web.xml file it will redirect the request to the proper class file. This doesn't work. I also add a form-login-page option into my web.xml file. So that when I call on a page it should redirect to a login screen. But that doesn't work also. It doesn't redirect, it's goes straight to the page that should be secure.

  • War with WAR files :-)

    HI All:
    I believe there are lot of issues with the current WAR file packaging which hinders its usage in many many practical scenarios.
    (1) Once I package an app in a WAR file, all the jars and classes inside that are merely becoming useless to external world. Suppose I want to develop an application using the classes inside the WAR file, is there any way to do this without unpacking t he WAR / duplicating the jars. FOr example, suppose I have deployed APP_A as app_a.war, now I am developing a new shell script. Can I write,
    set CLASSPATH = app_a.war??
    As far as I know it is a NO. Then am I supposed to duplicate the jar files / classes outside. That is too bad.
    (2) How is an end user supposed to modify a WAR file's web.xml. Many app servers, dont have a way to "introspect" the WAR file and open the web.xml in a GUI for modification. Suppose , I have my init parameters in web.xml, that should be modified by deployer, currently he has to manually explode it?
    (3) How do I dynamically add classes to WAR file? Suppose based on the installation parameters, I generate a class file dynamically for my application (which is deployed as WAR), how do I update the WAR with new class files?
    I am horribly lost due to these limitations. Please help.
    -Sanjay

    OK... Not much to read anyway :-))). it is merely NOT possible with the current spec of WAR files. Only way is to use just the WAR directory structure instead of packaging it. I think JAR inside WAR should ideally be accessible via:
    my.war!my.jar, I would say....

  • How to chage the welcome file in web.xml using creator?

    Hi guys,
    I want to set the welcome file in web.xml to index.html but every time I run my project in creator, creator replaces index.html by faces/index.jsp. I need the index.html to check if the browser enables cookies & javascript and then I redirect to index.jsp. If I change the web.xml in a common editor, build the war-file with ant and deploy the project with tomcat, everything is fine. but how can I change it in creator?
    thanks in advance

    Sorry, that doesn't make much sense.
    The XML you gave is a configuration file for txt2xml utility. It doesn't represent the output format.
    Are you a user of this utility?

  • Java property file in web.xml?

    I'm having trouble getting a web app to work resonably closely to how I expect:
    I have a property file that is accessed by the package of java classes ( under
    WEB-INF/classes). In the classes ( package com.th.lifeinsruance ) i have a property
    file which is referenced in the java code as com.th.lifeinsurance.xx.properties.
    It seems the only place that wl6.0 is prepared to look for this property file
    is under the /weblogic6.0 dir ( i.e totally outside the web app!!). I would guess
    that I'm supposed to register this property file in web.xml for the app however
    the only examples refer to DataSources and so on ( to set a resource). Is this
    correct? Does someone have an example of a java property file being read correctly
    in its package with the .class files?
    Many Thanks
    Mark

    I've some other solution for the same problem which is working fine for me.
    1) make a jar file only consisting of the properties file
    jar -cvf DescriptionBundle.jar  DescriptionBundle.properties
    2) copy the jar file to the /dist/Portal-inf/lib folder
    3) Use the following code to get the ResourceBundle
    Locale locale = null;
    Locale locale = null;
    locale = Locale.US;
    servletReq.getSession().setAttribute("myLocale", locale);
    ResourceBundle bundle = ResourceBundle.getBundle("DescriptionBundle", locale);
    if (bundle == null) {
         logger.warning("bundle is null");
    for (Enumeration e = bundle.getKeys(); e.hasMoreElements();) {
         String key = (String) e.nextElement();
         String s = bundle.getString(key);
         servletReq.getSession().setAttribute(key, s);
         logger.info("Key is" + key + "value is" + s);
    This solution doesn't suit  the title of the topic but is another way to access the properties files.

  • Problems with error-page in web.xml and page caching

    Having a few problems with error pages and web.xml with browsers caching the error pages and strange errors coming out of weblogic.servlet.intenal.WebAppServletContext
    I'm trying to set a web app up so that all http errors and all exceptions are routed thruogh predefined resources. For now, I'm simply send 400 errors to 400.html and the ServletException, IOException and RuntimeException to respective html pages.
    What I'm finding is that the error codes work fine but the exceptions are only be routed to the correct error page for the first call to the servlet after server restart.
    So for example, I have my servlet throwing a ServletException as a test case. The weblogic server log shows that ServletException is thrown, and the correct error page for ServletExceptions is shown.
    If I change the Servlet code to throw IOException in place of SevletException, the weblogic.log shows that IOExceptyion is being thrown (so the servlet has deployed successfully), however the Servletxception error page is shown on the browser.
    I'm using IE6 and I've changed the setting such that a new page is requested every time using the tools-internet options-temp internet files-settings option to "check for new versions of stored pages: Every visit to the page".
    Despite this, the servlet exception error page still appears.
    If you clear the cache from the temp intenet files->delete files IE option, the correct errror page will be shown so it appears that the browser cache is being used after all.
    everytime I delete the temp intenet files I get the correct error page on the first request after but then not after that.
    I have implemented the service method for this test to throw the exceptions - does this make a differecne?
    As a test, I have moved the imlpementation to the doGet method instead bu I now get a strange eror from weblogic comlpaining about an arrayOutOfBoundsException because eror codes in the web.xml are not supported! - see error above.
    Any help is appreciated

    After further investigation: -
    There are no problems with error pages based on error codes, only error exceptions.
    As a test case, I have a service method in a servlet throwing either one of the three exception types that servlets can throw (Runtime, Servlet & IO) the following rules apply. The exception to be thrown is hardcoded and is changed and the web app rebuilt each time. The correct web.xml has been deployed to the app server (checked through console). the webapp is being redeployed correctly - this can be seen in the weblogic log, where the correct exception is reported.
    I am using WLS 8.1, Servlet 2.3, JDK 1.4.1_02
    In all cases, the weblogic log reports that the servlet is throwing the exception as expected.
    Despite having set error-page for exception javax.servlet.ServletException, the exceptions are diverted to the error page that has been set up for http error code 500
    The error page for ServletException is therefore never reached.
    I have the browser set to request pages every time it is asked.
    Once the servlet has thrown an IOException, the only way to get the browser to report an IO or Runtime exception error-page is to clear the browser cache. Restarting the server has no effect.
    Once the servlet has responded with ANY exception, it is not possible to get it to report a ServletException (which is incorrectly reported as a 500 anyway) unless the cache is cleared. Restarting the server has no effect.
    In the case where the servlet throws ServletException, it has no root exception. The servlet 2.3 spec states that if ServletException is thrown but cannot be found in the error pages, the root excpetion will be extracted and the error page list traversed again. Knowing that the RuntimeException error page is correct shown when RuntimeException is throwm, I have nested this inside the ServletException, however error page for http error 500 is still shown.
    I don't believe this is a WLS 8.1 problem, as the console shows that the correct exception is thrown each time. this is backed up by the fact that the correct exception page is thrown when the cache is cleared regardless of what exception was previousdly thrown by the servlet. This excludes ServletException which is always incorrectly thrown as a 500.

  • Where I can find .WAR file for web UI?

    I would like to use jakarta project
    web container for webUI.How I can accomplish
    this?

    Hello, I mean tomcat of jakarta.apache.org project- it's web container but .war file is web application archive as specified in servlet 2.2 spec.
    Why? I need support for latest spec. servlet 2.2/jsp 1.2 that provided by tomcat 4.0 beta(as standalone it's working fine for me;)). I'll be more concrete
    I need sophisticated JSP rendering engine for:
    Using JSPs of developer guide:
    <
    Deploying Java Beans and JSPs
    All compiled Java Beans must be stored in the directory $ORACLE_HOME/ifs/custom_classes on the server where Oracle iFS is installed.
    The Oracle iFS product comes with a starting-point directory structure. One of the folders in that structure is reserved for holding JSPs: $ORACLE_HOME/ifs/jsp-bin. To have your JSP compile and execute properly in Oracle iFS, you must store the JSP in this folder. JSPs stored elsewhere will not be executed by the Oracle iFS JSP compiler.

    I would like to use web UI as frontend and my JSPs/servlets as extension of this application. It's easy create custom web app if I have ready .WAR file-it's portable
    between web containers and well structured... For example this schema doesn't have such constraints as location of JSPs and beans support classes location is well known-
    WEB-INF/classes for .WAR structured file, in WEB-INF/lib can be placed different ifs libs and all is clean and portable;).
    I mean webUI must not be integrated part of ifs- it must be developer tool( extensible and reusable).By the way who give constraints on JSPs/classes location: HTTP server of ifs
    or webUI?
    It's very nice that IFS has such thing as webUI but that if I can use it as dead(stable) code:(. I need write myself webUI presenting IFS document structure but why?
    Web UI is future(IE 5.5/w3 and other standards based;) so why put on it such restrictions.
    Best regards.
    P.S I can infiltrate web app from ifs- but it's not right(I can do something wrong).If I can help you somehow tell me.

  • Use of jsp-file in web.xml

    hello
    can anybody explain about , when we need <jsp-file> in web.xml
    and why we use this tag in place of <url-pattern>?

    If you want to declare a JSP in your web.xml file you use the jsp-file tag instead of the servlet-class tag. Normally there is no need to declare a JSP in the web.xml file unless you want to use init-params.
    Usually people can access a JSP directly wether it is declared in the web.xml or not. So it is not that the jsp-file tag replaces the url-pattern tag so much as the url-pattern tag is not needed for a JSP. However notthing prevents you from declaring the JSP in the web.xml and then mapping the JSP to a different url that doesn't end in '.jsp'.

  • Troubles with xmp files not loading...

    I'm having troubles with xmp files not loading with images but are present in the image folders. does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a way to fix this. Also when trying to load the xmp individually they are grayed out and unable to load. I have tried this on different machines (Macs) and still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated in this issue.

    > The information contained in the XMP file is stored in the DNG file so there is no need for a separate file.
    Aww, yuck!! That's a real drag...
    When editing lots of files (yesterday's shoot produced 8GB) I back everything up to off-line storage and then, after doing all my edits and crops in ACR, I only have to copy over the small XMP files which takes no time at all.
    So if I re-edit the DNG with ACR I have to re-copy ALL the files again to the off-line storage.
    I used to sometimes even save 2 versions of the xmp files when I needed 2 different crops of the same images, such as doing a wide screen 'cinema' crop for a corporate client's Intranet presentation of their event, as well as more standard crops to be used for their newsletters.
    Guess I won't be using DNG any more..
    Thanks for the help Kees :-)

  • Is it possible to deploy a portlet war file on web container?

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to deploy a portlet war file on web container i.e say I have a JSF or struts portlet application deployed on a portal container which I need to run as a web application.
    So, I would need to deploy the application on web container.
    Can this be done directly without making any changes and without importing jars?or is it not possible at all?
    Did anyone try this?
    Would be very nice of you if you can reply asap.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Nishant

    I'm not sure using the DVT enabler portlet will do what you want. It basically just specifies the render dependencies to bring in the dojo and dvt javascript libraries. It doesn't provide any login support itself; the javascript it brings responds to the logged-in state of the user (accessed via DISC), so something else is required to login the user.

  • Having trouble with wav files and sample rates

    Hi ,I am having trouble with wav files and sample rates .I have been sent multiple projects on wav as the main instrumental ; I wish to record in 48.000kHz .Now comes the problem.When I try to change the project to 48k It seems to pitch up the track.I can't have them send the logic/project file as most have outboard synths,different plug ins etc.This particular case the producer has recorded the synth task in 41.000 kHz .My successful outcome would be to be able t create a project file in 48 kHz .And NOT pitch up whne I add the instrumenta wav file .Any help would be gratefully recieved,this is my first post so any mistakes I may have made go easy

    You'll have to convert the actual synth audio file file that the producer gave you to 48kHz. You can do this in the audio Bin in Logic.

  • Include another xml file in web.xml

    I was able to use XML Entity to include another xml file in web.xml for older servlet specifications, i.e.:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
        PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
        "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd" [
      <!ENTITY my-web SYSTEM "my-web.xml">
    ]>
    <web-app>
      &my-web;
    </web-app>This allows me to share my-web.xml among various web applications.
    How do I achieve the same thing for servlet specification 2.5, which does not have a DTD but rather an XSD?
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
      xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
      xmlns:web="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"
      xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"
      id="WebApp_ID" version="2.5">I am using Glassfish V2UR1. I know about $domain-dir/config/default-web.xml, but for reasons I won't get into I cannot put things in there.

    Hi Maksim. I understood that. It's just that I would prefer some method that doesn't require the developers to do something like extracting a file from the EAR file, changing the file and then putting it back in. As you probably know, some developers could handle it and some will most certainly make mistakes.
    When they do they come to my group and say "my app doesn't work" and then we have to spend time figuring out why.
    Plus, once the developers get used to doing things the automated way they're going to have a hard time remembering to do a manual step each time they do a build.
    I have heard that there may be some way to do something similar to this on Visual Administrator. I'm going to investigate that too.
    Thanks!
    David.

  • Problem with mime type in web.xml file

    Hi everybody,
    I actually got a problem with mime types on Weblogic 6.0 under Linux.
    I read the documentation so I added the next lines in the web.xml file in

    <mime-type>
    application/vnd.ms-powerpoint
    </mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    Why can't I retrieve a .doc or .ppt files with an internet browser correctly
    ? I get only text/plain ...
    Can someone help me ?
    Regards,

    I am having the same problem with doc and xsl. I have added this
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>xls</extension>
    <mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    <mime-mapping>

    <mime-type>application/msword</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    to my web.xml. I even restarted the server. I still see doc and xsl in binary.
    Is there some other setting that needs to take place?
    I am using WL6.1 with fixpack 1.
    I can see the doc and excel files in the browser if I don't go through the weblogic
    server. That just confirms it's not my browser.

  • Trouble adding alias to the web.xml file (External Facing Portal)

    I'm trying to implement the external facing portal. I don't really have any real custom content to add to it but have just created an iView that contains a webpage that's contained within a copy of the light framework.
    I'm having trouble adding or accessing the alias that I've created to go to this iView.
    I can test my iView by adding it to the master rule collection under one of the predefined aliases in the web.xml (e.g. portal/anonymous etc) but when i define my own (e.g. "ext" etc) and then go to http://portal:<port>/irj/ext I'm just getting an error:
      The requested resource does not exist.
      Details:   Go to main page of this application!
    This is what my entry in the web.xml file looks like:
    <web-app>
    <display-name>The Java iView Runtime</display-name>
    <listener>
    <listener-class>
    com.sapportals.portal.prt.session.HttpSessionHandler
    </listener-class>
    </listener>
    <servlet>
    <servlet>
    <init-param>
       <param-name>
          portal/anonymous
       </param-name>
       <param-value>
    anonymous=1,proxy=0,low_bandwidth=0,include_in_url=1,include_application_name_in_url=1
       </param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
      <param-name>
       ext
      </param-name>
      <param-value>
    anonymous=1,proxy=0,low_bandwidth=1,include_in_url=1,include_application_name_in_url=1
      </param-value>
    <init-param>
    </servlet>
    My master rule collection seems to be correct, since I can test the iView etc by adding it to a predefined alias. I've tried closing all browsers etc. Nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas what this could be?
    Thanks!
    I'll award points for any help.
