Trying p2v import of virtual machine image, server pool not chooseable

I'm trying to import a virtual machine image via p2v from an OEL 5 bare metal image. I go to resources, virtual machine images, Import, choose p2v, and then on the General Information page, it asks for Server Pool Name. The name of my one and only server pool is not in the dropdown. The dropdown only contains "Select Server Pool". I tried to fill in the rest and hit Next but it failed me on the Server Pool name.
How can I get the server pool name to show up in that dropdown?
There is one server pool, one server, and one vm already on that server.
thanks,
Peter

It's a bug, I had the same problem. I used this and it worked (copying and pasting from an old thread with the solution):
Workaround:
VM Manager -> Server Pools -> Select Server Pool Name -> EDIT -> Check the box of “Enable High Availability” -> Apply -> Ignore the “Shared storage is not mounted, or the file system is invalid. The file system should be OCFS2 or NFS.” error message. Leave unchecked the box of ”Enable High Availability” -> Apply again:
“The server pool updated successfully.”
Now you can retry the import.

  • How to import a virtual machine to a Hyper-V server by programme on Windows server 2012 ?

    Hi
As we know, Hyper-V of Windows server 2012 can support importing a VM without exporting it first manually now.
So I try to code a programme to do it.
I use the method "ExportVirtualSystemEx" of  "Msvm_VirtualSystemManagementService". referenced by
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd379583(v=vs.85).aspx
But the error said that "You can import a virtual machine only if you used Hyper-V to create and export it."
Since we can import an unexported virtual machine in Hyper-V of windows server 2012 manually, so is there any API to support to do it by programme ?

    Hi vincent
Thanks for your infomation. It is really useful for us.
I 'd like to know How to adjust path ?

I  try to fix this error referenced by

I ran the commands as bellow :
    $report = compare-vm -path 'J:\HyperV\VM2008R2_1\Virtual Machines\6D2B5BF6-0BC0-4B1C-86BA-5A28DAB3DFCF.xml'
    $report.Incompatibilities | fl

But this web page don't mentioned how to fix the "Virtual Hard Disk file not found" error.
and I don't want to fix the VMNetworkAdapter issue by disconnect it.
So could you told me how to modify the virtual hard disk file path and VMNetworkAdapter to make sure that I can import the virtual machine successfully?

  • How to Uninstall a failed Virtual Machine Management Server (x64) installation ?

    Dear Technet Team,
I cannont uninstall the Virtual Machine Management Server (x64). Already tried it with the Installation Image. The Uninstalling process suddenly crashed without no error. I delete everything so far DB as well because it was never in use. So how can
I uninstall the Management Server. I did not install it a Cluster as well.
By the way i tried it with wmic but there i got "no instance available" error. I am stucking with this quite a while. I messed it up really hard so i think i must manually delete all regestry keys because i already delete some. Is there a way to
    uninstall it Forcefully ?
    Thank you!

    Hello, I'm asking for help.
I got this error with these logs:
The System Center Virtual Machine Manager service terminated unexpectedly. It has done 3 time(s).

Looking forward for help. Thank you

Please review the eventlog: Application and Services Logs > Microsoft > Virtual Machine Manager > Server
This should give you an insight why Virtual Machine Manager is crashing.
Alternately you can enable Debug logging for Virtual Machine Manager to get more information.

I do not manage to find the function to change a letter into exposing. I have MUSE DC 2014.2 and the menu does not display this possibility. I tried to import it IN design but that does not function either?

I'm not clear on exactly what it is you're asking, but if you're referring to changing opacity, you can change the opacity setting for the States of a menu item via the States panel and Control Strip.

  • P2V a Citrix Virtual machine (offline)

I am wanting to P2V a virtual machine. If you are wondering why not do a V2V I can't add the Xenserver hosts to SCVMM 2012 since the Xenserver I am running is 6.2 (which isn't supported with SCVMM 2012 SP1).
There are a couple that I would prefer to do an offline conversion (such as a domain controller) but it complains that it can't find the drivers for the NIC.
I have tried copying the folders under the XenTools directory on the VM to the "Driver Import" folder (I created a folder within that folder) but it still complains that it can't find the drivers.
Does anyone know the correct way to get this to work and get the Citrix PV Drivers in SCVMM so I can attempt an offline convert? The VM's are all 2008 R2

Did you find a solution to this? The drivers I am having an issue with are the SCSI drivers and the Ethernet PV drivers. I am trying to convert a domain controller.

  • Server 2012 cluster - virtual machine live migration does not work

    Hi,
We have a hyper-v cluster with two nodes running Windows Server 2012. All the configurations are identical.
When I try to make a Live migration from one node to the other I get an error message saying:
Live migration of 'Virtual Machine XXXXXX' failed.
I get no other error messages, not even in event viewer. This same happens with all of our virtual machines.
A normal Quick migration works just fine for all of the virtual machines, so network configuration should not be an issue.
The above error message does not provide much information.

    Hi,
Please check whether your configuration meet live migration requirement:
Two (or more) servers running Hyper-V that:
    Support hardware virtualization.
    Yes they support virtualization.
Are using processors from the same manufacturer (for example, all AMD or all Intel).
Both Servers are identical and brand new Fujitsu-Siemens RX300S7 with the same kind of processor (Xeon E5-2620).
Belong to either the same Active Directory domain, or to domains that trust each other.
Both nodes are in the same domain.
Virtual machines must be configured to use virtual hard disks or virtual Fibre Channel disks (no physical disks).
All of the vitual machines have virtual hard disks.
Use of a private network is recommended for live migration network traffic.
Have tried this, but does not help.
Requirements for live migration in a cluster:
Windows Failover Clustering is enabled and configured.
    Yes
Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) storage in the cluster is enabled.
    Yes
Requirements for live migration using shared storage:
All files that comprise a virtual machine (for example, virtual hard disks, snapshots, and configuration) are stored on an SMB share. They are all on the same CSV
Permissions on the SMB share have been configured to grant access to the computer accounts of all servers running Hyper-V.
Requirements for live migration with no shared infrastructure:
    No extra requirements exist.
Also please refer to this article to check whether you have finished all preparation works for live migration:

how to upgrade virtual server machine in server 2012 r2, Please help me for this Issue .

I recommend doing a fresh install of Server 2012 R2 on the bare metal, enable the Hyper-V role and migrate the VMs over using these steps:
    Shutdown the VMs on the current 2008 or 2008 R2 Hyper-V host(s)
In Hyper-V Manager, delete all snapshots and saved states of all VMs.
Set all the VM vNICs to use static MAC
    Export each VM
On the new 2012 R2 Hyper-V server, import the VMs

  • Log into a virtual machine on server 2012 r2 datacenter from a windows 8.1 client login

    Hello,
I have set up a VPN on Windows Server 2012 r2 Datacenter using Hyper-V. Everything seems to be functioning ok using the Hyper V platform. I would like to know if it is possible to connect to a virtual machine on the VPN from a Windows 8.1 client using the
widows login and if it is then how to go about it. If I could have some links to tutorials etc I would be greatful. I have not been able to find anything and I have been looking for days. I would really appreciate some assistance. Thanks in advance.
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
I am sorry to say that I am not quite sure of your requirement. Is the Windows Server 2012 R2 computer a host server in Hyper-V? Did you mean that you want to RDP into a Hyper-V VM from a Windows 8.1 client? If yes, you need to allow Remote Desktop Connections
in guest OS. The network adapter type must allow communication with host machine and network discovery mode and the services supporting network discovery mode must be turned on.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • An error occured when trying to start the virtual machine

I am getting an error whn trying to start an hyperv vm. The error is shown attached. any idea?

    Hi,
Please confirm you dismount that guest VM disk first and did you install the AV soft on Hyper-V host? If yes, also please try to disable the AV soft then try to start the
    guest vm again.

  • Virtual Machine Image

    Hey guys
i was wondering if theres a guide to making a complete VM Image of my KDE Archlinux installation on the hard disk /dev/sdc on my pc, so  that i can run it in a virtual machine without having to resetup everything

    Hey guys
ok ive read the wiki and i do understand abit more now about disk cloning
But im wondering how id go about achieving my goal
    basically
    I have windows 7 on /dev/sdb
    and archlinux on /dev/sdc
I want to make a clone of /dev/sdc, an image, and put it /dev/sdb, and then convert that image, or find a way to use in VirtualBox in windows 7 without curropting my windows 7 MBR or installation
so what would be the best way to achieve this
basically what im asking is like. when you use dd and save the image as .img.gz , do you restore it the same way in a virtualbox, since VM would have different partitions etc. or can i save the file as a .vdi and would that work
so like how would i get that dd image to work in virtualbox

  • Virtual PC - Create new virtual machine snap in button not appearing

I was asked to move this question here so here it goes...
I have installed virtual PC and have the XP mode image working on Win 7 64 bit on a Dell Optiplex 990 i5.  However when I choose the Windows Virtual PC manager and the Windows explorer window opens, I don't see the create virtual machine option, just
'burn' where it should be.  How do I get the snap in option to appear to create a virtual drive?  The window appears with the title Virtual Machines.
I have tried enabling the windows 7 aero UI thinking the classic windows appearance was somehow blocking this but that had no effect.
I tried re-installing the virtual pc setup directly from the website but it give me the message that it's isn't suitable for use.  I tried un-installed and re-installing but get the same where the explorer window is missing the snap in.
Again, the XP mode image works properly and starts and shuts down without any issues.

Below is the fix for the virtual machines folder for WinVPC when the folder
here “%username%virtual machines” is missing the
    “Create Virtual Machine” option.
Making changes to the Registry is potentially dangerous, always have a backup before proceeding.
The fix is pretty simple, copy and paste the following lines into notepad and save
to a *.reg file, then double-click to run it (you shouldn’t need to reboot for
the fix to take effect, close and re-open the window:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
    Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
    Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

  • Windows O/S running in the virtual machine has frozen does not want to shut down

Our old Windows-based PC is a virtual machine on our iMac (it is accessed using VMWare Fusion 2). The Windows XP Home Edition O/S froze when booting, and cannot be shut down by sending a Ctrl-Alt-Del or Force Quitting VMWare Fusion. Putting the iMac in Sleep mode or restarting it makes no difference.  The virtual machine is still in a suspended state, and there appears to be no way of either getting it to finish booting the Windows O/S or shutting it down.  Any ideas as to how to unfreeze it?  At this point in time, all I want to do is get back into the Windows side, rescue any data files I need, and stop using the virtual machine.

VMware Fusion issues should be posted in the VMware Fusion forums:
    http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/desktop/fusion?view=discussions
That said, you can "Force Shut Down" a virtual machine by holding down the Option key, then clicking on the Virtual Machine Menu.  "Shut Down" becomes "Force Shut Down".
More than likely what you'll need to do is hold the Option key, then choose "Force Restart" to get Windows to boot again.  Then use "Force Shut Down" to power off the VM, if a normal shut down does not work after that.  Do NOT close the VM window, or put the Mac to sleep as this will initiate another suspend procedure.

  • Trying to set up time machine but it does not show my disc plugged into airport.  Time capsule setup never shows disc .

Trying to set up time machine but cannot get it to find my disc plugged into Airport.

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple.   See:  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.
