  • [SOLVED] Delete recursively all files with certain extensions

    Hi all,
I am trying to recursively delete files with specific extensions. Many of these files have names containing spaces. The following, that I found googling around, didn't work:
find /media/TSUNAMI -name '*out' -or -name '*aux' -or -name '*log' -or -name '*.blg' -or -name '*.toc' -or -name '*.bcf' -or -name '*.swp' -or -name '*blx' | rm
find /media/TSUNAMI -name '*out' -or -name '*aux' -or -name '*log' -or -name '*.blg' -or -name '*.toc' -or -name '*.bcf' -or -name '*.swp' -or -name '*blx' -type f -ok rm '{}' ';'
    find /media/TSUNAMI -name '*out' -or -name '*aux' -or -name '*log' -or -name '*.blg' -or -name '*.toc' -or -name '*.bcf' -or -name '*.swp' -or -name '*blx' -exec rm -f '{}' \;
find /media/TSUNAMI -name '*out' -or -name '*aux' -or -name '*log' -or -name '*.blg' -or -name '*.toc' -or -name '*.bcf' -or -name '*.swp' -or -name '*blx'| xargs /bin/rm -f
    find /media/TSUNAMI -name '*out' -or -name '*aux' -or -name '*log' -or -name '*.blg' -or -name '*.toc' -or -name '*.bcf' -or -name '*.swp' -or -name '*blx' -exec /bin/rm -f '{}' \;

and I think that it was the following that deleted all the files (except the directories):
find /media/TSUNAMI -name '*out' -or -name '*aux' -or -name '*log' -or -name '*.blg' -or -name '*.toc' -or -name '*.bcf' -or -name '*.swp' -or -name '*blx' -type f -delete
What am I doing wrong here?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
PS. While writing this I realized that I fogot the dot in out, aux, log, and blx
PS2. I'm experimenting around and don't mind deleting all the files if I do a mistake

The implicit "and" operator binds stronger than the "or" (-o) operator. Therefore
    | -name a -o -name b -delete |
    will be grouped like this:
    | (-name a) -o ( -name b -delete ) | .
You want to group it like this:
    | ((-name a ) -o ( -name b )) ( -delete )   | ,
so you need to add some manual grouping:
    | ( -name a -o -name b ) -delete |

  • Xdg-open is opening files with no extension in wine notepad

xdg-open is opening files with no extension in wine notepad. This is really annoying. How can I change it?

Click on "Browse" button at the "Open With" dialog and navigate to the location, where acrord32.exe is located. Preferebly, it should be this location "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" unless you have installed at some customized location.  I'm assuming you have installed Reader 9. Once you add Adobe Reader in the open with list, it would continue to appear next time onwards.

  • Opening files with no extension

Adobe Reader is installed on 2 different PCs running Windows XP, PC1 and PC2.
Both PCs need to open .pdf files with no extension, because an application renames files, let's say "file1pdf", as "file1", without altering the contents.
On PC1 if I try to open a file, let's say "file1", I see a list of available applications including "Adobe Reader".
On PC2 if I try to open the same file I don't see "Adobe Reader" in the list of available applications.
Adobe reader is installed on both PCs.
How can I add "Adobe Reader" to the list of available applications to open files with no extension on PC2?

Try "Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro" on the Mac App Store.
    According to an app description,
"The Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro automatically converts Apple Loops installed with Logic Pro 9 and X to uncompressed audio formats (aiff and wave).
With the Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro, musicians using other major DAWs (e.g., Cubase, ProTools, Ableton Live, and Studio One, etc.) can now easily use the rich set of apple loops of Logic Pro in their music productions."

  • Trying to create MPEG-2 with .mpg extension

A client requires an MPEG-2 file with .mpg extension, less than 10 Mbps bit rate, twin channel mono audio.
Can I create this in compressor from a .mov?
If I choose multiplexed audio and then manually change the extension from m2t to mpg will this work? (the client will playback in a solid state mpeg player)
Also - I am working in PAL and they require a 1024x576 pixel file: when I select 16x9, will this give the correct setting (assuming my source material is anamorphic)?

Since the client asks for MPEG-2 with .mpg extension, I guess they really mean .mpeg as gogiangigo mentions. In other words, they want an MPEG-2 Program Stream.
Compressor 3 User Manual: page 60:
    • m2t: Represents MPEG-2 transport stream.
    • mpeg: Represents MPEG-2 program stream.
Compressor 3 User Manual: page 183:
About Elementary, Transport, and Program Streams
There are three common MPEG-2 stream types that are used to deliver MPEG-2 encoded video:
    • Elementary streams: These streams contain only one MPEG-2 content channel and no audio. Elementary streams are required if you intend to use your MPEG-2 encoded video as a DVD Studio Pro asset.
    • Transport streams: These streams can contain several MPEG-2 content channels and associated audio. All the channels are multiplexed together, allowing the receiver to choose which to play back. Compressor supports creating single-channel transport streams that can optionally include associated audio. Transport streams can also recover from interruptions during playback, making them ideally suited for broadcast and streaming applications where noise or network congestion can lead to interruptions.
    • Program streams: These streams contain only one MPEG-2 content channel and its associated audio. Program streams require an error-free delivery method and are primarily used for storage or processing within a computer. By default, the Compressor MPEG-2 encoder creates elementary MPEG-2 steams. You can configure the MPEG-2 encoder to create transport or program streams and choose whether they should include audio in the Extras tab. See “Extras Tab” on page 197 for more information.
Note: All the Stream Usage settings except Generic output elementary streams. If you select any of the other Stream Usage settings and then configure the output to be either a transport or program stream, the Stream Usage changes to Generic. See “Stream Usage” on page 185 for more information.

  • Recover files with wdseml extension

The folders of my profile were corrupted without apparent cause.
These folders and their contents (looking directly with the MS-Explorer at Windows7) does not corresponds to the content displayed at Thunderbird folders, which displays or none or only some messages. Furthermore, any mozmsgs folders contains files with names large and unintelligible (as !%26!AAAAAAAAAAAYAAAAAAAAAAvE%2B1bgVJRKvZbGQVKNZEPCgAAAEAAAAEvN9Wl6jMtPvq8AQlPK8hwBAAAAAA%3D%3D%40gmail.com, for example).
I deleted the indexes files (msf), but the problem persisted! I tried recover from ImportExportTools 3.1 extension. Unfortunately, also without results!
How can I do to keep my message files? I have archived messages since 2004 and would not want that to happen.

    Thank you Matt!
I ended up discovering that these files are files visualization of windows7 to search the archives of the Thunderbird.
However, I also discovered that I missed the messages corresponding to these files. The corresponding files from Thunderbird simply disappeared. I tried several tools such as undelete / unerase and these files appear as neither deleted files. Somehow they were erased and overwritten.
I found that files with the extension wdseml can be renamed to eml and read like a message, but the attachments were lost.
I believe some updating Thunderbird may have caused this, since a recent update occurred. The date of this update is the same date of multiple files still present (see the MS-Explorer), precisely the date given by my lack of posts.
This tragedy upsets/saddens me much. I ended up losing almost 50,000 messages, all stored and organized by topics since 2004! At least I can recover the text of these messages, even without its attachments.

  • How can u open a file with .exe extension after it was unpacked?

Thank you Linc Davis for THE ARCHIVER, I was able to unpacked the program. However, after it was unpacked, I clicked the file wtih .exe extension and I got a message that this file will not be extract with this program. Is there another way to open file with .exe extension after it was unpacked by THE ARCHIVER...??? Any assistance is highly appreciated.

.exe files are Windows executables and do not run in OS X.  You would have to install Windows to use it.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    6. Last is Q.  Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs.  It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.
