Trying to copy names of folders AND sizes from Finder.

When I copy paste into workbook only names show up. Is there a way I can have the names and the sizes? It seems like a simple tas but I can't figure it out.
I downloaded and used Print Window but the sizes of each folder are off.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run:
tell application "Finder"
set the_string to ""
repeat with this_item in (get items of window 1)
set the_string to the_string & name of this_item & tab & size of this_item & return

set the_string to items 1 thru -2 of the_string as string
end tell
This will return the size in bytes; if a folder is empty, its size will be listed as 'missing value'.

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entireiTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Is it possible to copy the iphoto library and albums from a G5 to a macpro

I would like to copy my iphoto library and albums from a G5 10.5.8 iphoto 8 to a macpro 10.6.2 with iphoto 9. I would like all the photos and albums to appear in the macpro just as they were in the G5. I have vantecs ezshare adapter that allows you to drag files between two computers mac or windows. Copying photos should not be a problem but its the albums I want to go with the photos and appear in iphoto 9 on the macpro.

iPhoto '09 will open and convert any previous version of the iphoto library - if it is working correctly on the old system it should convert
Firewire target mode is a good way to transfer the iPhoto library - make the connection and drag the entire iPhoto library at one intact as a single entity to the new computer (put it on the desktop or somewhere so as not to mess up what you have done - depress the option key and launch iPhoto on the new system and select the library you just copies (be sure not to select the one on the old computer - you do not want to convert it - conversion is a one way operation) - it should open and convert and be ready to use - then you can quit iPhoto and place it where you want and do the option launch again to tell iPhoto where it is - and do the option launch any time you want to switch between multiple libraries

iTunes Store keeps a purchase history for your Apple ID and allows ypou to redownload purchases. Any other media add to iTunes from outside the store (CDs, etc..) are not uploaded to iTunes unless you have purchased iTunes Match. Those items you will need to add from your backups.

I am using FileUploadUIElement and I need to read filename, type and size in my Button click action.
I have seen the standard Test UI elements component WDR_TEST_EVENTS which does this in wdDoModifyView method.
But is there any way to read them outside wdDoModifyView ? In a normal custom action event?

Yes you can definately do the same in any of the custom events implemented.
You will have to create a global attribute in the component controller say g_upload type ref to cl_wd_file_upload ( mark the Public checkbox ).

Right click the folder in the sidebar and open the Properties to change the name.<br />
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) you can change the name in the Details at the bottom right.

Copy or Move folders and catalog in Lightroom 4

Hi, I am using Lightroom since 4 years. I have about 200,000 files (4.3TB) in 3 external hard drives and one catalog for all. Recently I had a problem with one ehd (I have 2 more copies luckily) and luckily it is still working. Due to this problem I have just purchased a NAS system (QNAP TS-669 Pro) with 6x3TB drives and set it up to RAID 6. Now the question: how should I proceed? Move or Copy all my Folders to new drives using Lightroom? Second question is about the Lightroom catalog lrdata and lrcat. I would also like to move them all to my new NAS system for safety, or should I leave them all in my users directory and make a backup copy to NAS? Thanks in advance

start Pages
create a new document (File > New)
paste the text from the email into the new Pages document (Edit > Paste)

Sorting folders and files in FINDER

I can sort folders and files alphabetically, chronologically, etc using LIST view, but not in any other view.
I seem to recall that FINDER used to sort alphabetically but now seems to sort randomly. I prefer to use the COLUMNS view.
In LIST view there are column headers NAME, DATE MODIFIED, SIZE, KIND and clicking on one will sort accordingly.
But these headers do not appear in the other views.

This can be done. If you want to arrange your files etc as columns...select "As Columns" from the "View" menu & then select "View Options" also from the "View" menu. It will then give you options as to how you wish to arrange your files etc.

New to XMP, but I'm looking to impliment a DAM across a marketing department split into two teams - remote but on the same network.
We have c70gb of av material from the last 15 years.
1. Is it possible to "watch" a network folders for new / edited files?
2. Can metadata be collected from the existing folder structure? I.e, for the last 15 years descriptive folder names have been used in an attempt to organise things - ergo these folder names include project names etc. Is it possible to pull these folder names out, and put them into keywords in the meta?

Hi, Thanks for the reply.I have 2 shared folders set up - 1 for each user and have given permission for each user to have full access to their own personal folder.There are our family photos on the public folders and each user has placed their own files/photos/videos etc in their personal folder.User 1 is using WDMycloud on an android phone - can see their own private folder and the public folder. All the photos are in the shared folder. All the private documents are in User 1 folder.When using the app, User 1 can go to 'Public' and see the public photos, but:When selecting 'View by date' some of the thumbnails that are on the folder are from user 1s secure folder. When user 1 opens the folder, they can see public photos in the thumbnails. First, we aren't Apple, just users trying to help users. Second, it is very common for new users to misunderstand what Migration Assistant does. It does not copy files from your previous computer to your new computer. It copies entire accounts. If you open the System Preferences and select the Users & Groups tab, you should find the account that Migration Assistant copied. Log into it and you'll find your files there.
