Trying to diagnose high "Network Wait" in my application

Hello,
I developed a simple standalone application that starts 4 threads. Essentially each thread is a database write operation by calling a stateless session bean (SLSB). The SLSB has a method that make use of Toplink Essentials JPA which is responsible of persisting the objects in the database. I am using an application diagnostic tool. This tool is showing high "Network Wait". For example 50% of the time is being spent on "java.net.SocketException" and finally in the following call "java.net.SocketInputStream -> socketRead0".
1. What is the reason for SocketException?
2. Could it because threads are trying to write at the same time?
I would appreciate if you could share with me any thoughts.
Thanks,
Mustafa

50% of the time is being spent on "java.net.SocketException" and finally in the following call "java.net.SocketInputStream -> socketRead0". That means that 50% of the time there is nothing to read. You would expect at least that, more like 90% IMO.
1. What is the reason for SocketException? What SocketException? Did you catch one? What was the text? Where was it thrown from?
2. Could it because threads are trying to write at the same time?Could what be because ...?

I'm getting the following message when I try to access My Network  or PC Health Check via the BT Desktop Help screens.
    Unexpected error
BT Desktop Help encountered a technical issue trying to diagnose the problem on your computer.
We advise you to restart BT Desktop Help and try again. If restarting BT Desktop Help doesn't resolve this issue then we recommend you restarting your computer.
Any suggestions how to gain access or resolve this problem ?

I've just had the same problem after updating today. I've tried the usual uninstall; reboot and clean installation and it still falls over when doing any kind of job with it e.g. PC Health Check. Looking at the dates in this thread and those about the same issue in previous threads, I think BT have only just releaed this update. I guess BT and hasn’t properly tested it. I shall uninstall it and consider a fresh install in a few weeks when perhaps they may have got it sorted out. A bit ironical since this new release was partly intended as a bug fix in itself!

  • High roll wait time, gui time and processing time

    Hi all,
We are having a performance issue with the system at the moment. After running ST03N and STAD, we have determined that we are having abnormally high roll-wait, GUI and processing times.
Here are some results from STAD:
    CPU time: 2956ms
    Processing time: 4417ms
    Roll wait time: 1319ms
    GUI Time: 2859ms
Can someone direct me towards finding the problem?
If you need more information please let me know. I would post a screenshot if I was able to.
    Thanks,
    HL

    Hi,
Regarding Performance Of SAP system it will not be possible to Come to conclusion with the one Single data.
GUI time is basically the time spent in front end i.e Your Network load or such time
Coming to CPU time Can you see ST06 what is the CPU Utilization of your system?
Roll Wait time is the time Spent in buffer if you can share us the OS and Memory configuration.
We can Try to tune the Roll memory ( extended memory tuning) so that we can try to reduce the Roll time.
If possible try to find the Top Dialog Response Time Transaction Is it Standard or for Z Programs.
    https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/docs/DOC-14387
Go through this link you might get clear idea of performance.
    Thanks & Regards,

Why do I keep getting an "authentication failed" message when trying to join my network?

You may have to shut your computer off and pull the power adapter from both your ISP's Modem and your Router and wait 5 minutes and restart them in the following order.
1st your ISP's Modem and wait a minute to get your signal and lights.
2nd do the same with your Router and again you have to wait the minute.
Last restart your computer and boot in OSX use Safari.

Support problem. The adviser tried to diagnose the failure of an application called JOTNOT PRO to update. He said he'd phone back at 8pm. I pick up his call at 8pm. Electronic voice: thank you for calling apple. We are now closed" So now I have 2 problems: the adviser had got me to reset so bye bye wifi passwords and settings. And then when he phones back as we agreed he's not actually on the phone, it's just a voice saying Apple Support is now closed! What on earth is going on at apple support I wonder.
Anyway, the original problem: an application called JotNot Pro fails to update. The error message says something like "you cannot update this cos either you bought it with a different Apple ID or somebody else bought it."
    Neither applies. Can anybody help?
PS. This is my first approach to the support community so please bear with me!

You might have better luck contacting the app's support or developers.

    Hi sunnylordz,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you have no service on the iPhone. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. There is one step you did not mention trying that i think is worth trying.
If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
Remove the SIM card. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or if it's too big or small for the SIM tray, contact your carrier for a new one. Then reinsert the SIM card.
    Cheers,
    Mario

  • Error 0x800704b3 when trying to map a network drive

    Hi there,
I have the following error when trying to map a network drive in my home network:
"\\iomegahmd can not be reached" and the error code is 0x800704b3.
I already looked into the services, and my strong assumption is that the problem is that the service "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" is not statrted and it is disabled. When I try to start it, there is an error message:
"The system could not find the path specified".
I've also checked the dependency components of the service "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper":
    Ancillary Function Driver for Winsock
    NetBT
    TCP/IP-Protocol driver
    NetIO-Legacy-TDI Support driver
in the device manager if they are running, but they are all running. The start is set to "System".
Under the TCP/IP Internet version 4 properties of the wireless device, under Advanced -> WINS Ive set Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, but it didnt help either.
What else could I try, so that I can map network drives?
I should also mention, that the problem persist since some week ago. Before it, it was properly functioning. Also, on the other computers in my networks I do not have problem accessing the same network drive.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dime

    > I should also mention, that the problem persist since some week ago. Before it, it was properly functioning.
Its difficult to say whats wrong in your case. My first idea is: set the system to early time point before this error appeared.
I would also recommend to disable all the security software and check if you come across the same problem.
If you still face the issue, then follow the link to fix the corrupted user profile.

  • Trying to add Windows Networked HP PhotoSmart C3100 to MacBook

Hi, re-born Mac user here...first time posting to discussions group. Purchased a MacBook last Saturday, also got the HP PhotoSmart C3100 printer at our Apple store. Installed the HP software on the Mac...no issues. However, the printer will permanently reside on a Windows network at home connected to an XP box. I installed the HP software on that PC, with no issues. I run wireless-G from my MacBook to my Windows LAN to already print to a Brother HP Laserprinter. I followed instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html on how to do setup a network printer on a Windows network for a Mac : Applications : Utilities : Printer Setup Utility (the C3100 IS listed there...but I assume that appeared from my local USB connection..so I proceed on....) : Add : Windows Printing : Workgroup..Select : Printer Model HP : Scroll to find the C3100....but there isn't one....even after installing the HP software on the MacBook. There are some gimp drivers for older series', but nothing for the C3100, even after a successful local install.
I've looked at several posts here for printing (universal drivers and gimp...but none are for the C3100 (prob too new?).
My question: I went through the same procedures noted on ifelix.co.uk to try to install a "network version" of the HP C3100, but since I don't see a C3100, what should I do now ?
I'm thinking I should see a "Have Disk" button like in XP, but was wondering what my next step should be ? Can I pick "Other"...and roam around on the Mac Library and drill down to Library...Printers.....HP...Photosmart ? There is a non-greyed out file there , libHPUtils.10.dylib , but I don't even want to try this MS-style thing being so new to the Mac world.
Anyone have some ideas or suggestions ? Thanks so much for your help, in advance ! It's so much fun to be reunited with the MacOS after a 7 year separation !

    Eric,
As far as I know, resetting the print setup will clear any preferences or caches. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe the hp installed drivers will remain on the system and available. I have both a system supplied and HP vended driver for the printer I'm using with this machine so I can't check it now, but I'm almost certain you won't have to re-install the software.
I have multiple connections to a printer setup on a few machines. For instance, I have one profile for IP printing and another as Bonjour/rendezvous. The limitations for that type of print setup have more to do with the printer than the OS. Some HP printers do make you go through the arduous hp setup process each time you switch the interface (USB, ethernet, wireless). Some printers just work. The main reason you want to use HP software is for special features (scanning, copying, duplexing, photosharing, email, transferring data from printer attached cameras or memory cards, etc).
There's no real reason to not keep as many profiles as you use in your print center. You can rename the printers in the print center based on the interface so that you don't get confused. It's possible that you can bypass a setup routing for a PhotoSmart by just adding it twice. You may need to set something else as a default printer during this procedure.
Desktop printers are good. If you don't want the clutter you can also just drag the printer from Users/you/Library/Printers/ into the dock or into the sidebar of the finder for quick access.
BTW, if you are trying gimp, did you try the latest release of gutenprint (5.0.0 release) http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/
    Good Luck,

  • 10.2.0.3 high concurrency wait event

I have a new 64bit windows 10g 10.2.0.3 VM server doing nothing but spinning its wheels. I intalled Oracle on it Friday and when I checked it tonight I see it is getting high concurrency wait events. Looks like every 10 minutes concurrency goes up to about 35.0 (?seconds) and then goes back to 0 - up and down every few minutes. Just enough to hit the warning threashold.
I need this machine for a peoplesoft install on Monday morning.
Anyone have any ideas what this could be? I kinda know what concurrency is but not sure if it could be from hardware or software.
Didn't see any patches/bugs but I will continue to look.
    Help, Kathie

What are the wait events as described in v$system_wait and v$session_event?

  • SharePoint 2010 crawl sql Network wait

    Hi
Using 3 tier sharepoint 2010 farm (1app server and 2 WFE). All servers 2008r2, sql 2008r2.
Suddenly we get a strange network wait on during crawls on one spesific contentDB in SQL:
Any ideas how to fix this? Can it be related to throttling on the webapplication? We did set throttling back to default values, didnt change anything though.

Don't inject the Windows 7 version of the driver into your WinPE image. Depending on what version of ADK you are using determines what version of the driver you will inject into WinPE.  If you are using MDT 2013 with ADK 8.1 you are using WinPE 5.0/5.1
which is basically Windows 8.1. Make a selection profile explicitly for your WinPE drivers to inject. Only include the drivers you want in the WinPE image. And match the architecture of the network and storage drivers (Windows 8.1 versions).

  • High Database Waits of type "other"

I justed added cpu patch 19 to my 11.1.0.7 windows 2008 database. Now I have a large amount of database waiting of type "other". See below.
Investigate the cause for high "unspecified wait event" waits. Refer to Oracle's "Database Reference" for the description of this wait event.
Action Investigate the cause for high "unspecified wait event" waits in Service "SYS$USERS".
Action Investigate the cause for high "unspecified wait event" waits in Module "DBMS_SCHEDULER"
Could stale statistics cause this and if so what is the correct way to gather system statistics. Do I unlock sys schema , gather data dictionary stats, and then lock sys schema?
Other thoughts what might cause this?
    Thanks,
    Kathie

    Hi,
    You should run the following.
    DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SYSTEM_STATS (
    gathering_mode VARCHAR2 DEFAULT 'NOWORKLOAD',
    interval INTEGER DEFAULT NULL,
    stattab VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
    statid VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
    statown VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL);
    dbms_stats.gather_system_stats(gathering_mode=>'start');
    dbms_stats.gather_system_stats(gathering_mode=>'stop');
System statistics will start gathering afetr you run the command with start option. System stats gathering will stop and may show them locked after you run stop.
NOWORKLOAD: Will capture characteristics of the I/O system. Gathering may take a few minutes and depends on the size of the database. During this period Oracle will estimate the average read seek time and transfer speed for the I/O system. This mode is suitable for the all workloads. Oracle recommends to run GATHER_SYSTEM_STATS ('noworkload') after creation of the database and tablespaces. To fine tune system statistics for the workload use 'START' and 'STOP' or 'INTERVAL' options. If you gather both 'NOWORKLOAD' and workload specific (statistics collected using 'INTERVAL' or 'START' and 'STOP' ), the workload statistics will be used by optimizer. Collected components: cpuspeednw, ioseektim, iotfrspeed.
INTERVAL: Captures system activity during a specified interval. This works in combination with the interval parameter. You should provide an interval value in minutes, after which system statistics are created or updated in the dictionary or stattab. You can use GATHER_SYSTEM_STATS (gathering_mode=>'STOP') to stop gathering earlier than scheduled. Collected components: maxthr, slavethr, cpuspeed, sreadtim, mreadtim, mbrc.
START | STOP: Captures system activity during specified start and stop times and refreshes the dictionary or stattab with statistics for the elapsed period. Interval value is ignored. Collected components: maxthr, slavethr, cpuspeed, sreadtim, mreadtim, mbrc.
    interval
Time, in minutes, to gather statistics. This parameter applies only when gathering_mode='INTERVAL'.
    Regards
