Trying to drag photo into iMovie project, It shows the correct picture in the time line but plays the adjacent picture in the viewer ?

trying to drag second set of photos into project. It shows the correct picture in the time line but plays the adjacent, previously imported, picture in the viewer

I notice that in the photo then has a tick in top left corner.
Please describe in other words - or add a screen photo so that I get it.
Howto trash the iMovie pref files - they are two or more.
• Delete iMovie pref. file
iMovie pref. file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iMovie3.plist
com.apple.iMovie7.plist
com.apple.iMovie8.plist
com.apple.iMovie9.plist
com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
and find
com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

When I drag photos into iMovie, the image quality is degraded.  Can I somehow prevent the degradation?

    Hi
A very common origin to jumpy picture is
    • Recorded material in one frame rate e.g. 29.97fps (NTSC) and iDVD set to do a 25fps (PAL) project - OR the other way around.
It delivers a DVD but a very bad one.
I do convert all my material to same fps as the DVD I want to do (e.g. PAL) - before any editing etc.
I use JES_Deinterlacer or Compressor to do this and the result is so much better.
JES_Deinterlacer is free on Internet and makes a Great job - Professional alternatives comes at an astronomical cost and the quality is not hardly no better.

  • A number of imported photos from iphoto in imovie project all show the same image whilst the preview before dragging them in is correct. What could be the problem?

A number of photos from iphoto used in imovie project all show the same image when playing back. The previw when clicking and dragging them and also the pictures in the storyline. Yet when playing the clip a previous immage keeps on appearing. What could be the problem?

You created a mess and there is no solution - with the actions you have taken those photos are gone unless you have access to them from some other source - they existed in two place - in your iPhoto library and on your backup drive - you have traded the backup drive and restore an earlier iPhoto library so all you have is what you have

  • Cannot insert photos into iMovie project

Suddenly I am unable to drag/drop photos from the iPhoto window in iMovie into my current project.
I click on the Photo button and thumbnails of my photos appear. I click on a photo (it is highlighted in blue) and drag it to the desired location within my project. When I drop it between clips (the green "Add" button appears) it just doesn't appear in the project.
I have tried several times to drag/drop the photos (from within iMovie and from an opened Finder window), restarted iMovie and restarted my computer but I still cannot add photos to my project.
Any suggestions? Is it the software or my computer?

Chic, Welcome to the discussion area!
I'm not sure why you posted in this area since your question has nothing to do with wireless networking nor the AirPort Express (AX).
I suggest that you go to the appropriate iMovie discussion area and post your question there.

  • Trouble adding photos into iMovie project

In one particular Project, when I try and add still photos, when I drag them into the project window I see the green line and the green 'plus sign', but then the pictures are not actually added...why is it doing this? It works in other Projects, so I'm wondering if it's just a glitch.

I had this problem last year (August-Sept 2007), and I'm having it again now (August 2008). When I import jpeg photos from iPhoto to iMovie, they turn black and are not accessible in iMovie. In addition, this time when I imported several photos, the replay of the iMovie became jerky. When I threw out the photos, the movie became smoother, the way it was originally. There seems to be some sort of bug that has not been fixed in over a year.

  • Dragging photos into iMovie '08 quit working

I have been working on making a movie that is basically a slide show with music using iMovie '08. I drag the picture into place from iPhoto and all was going well until this morning.
When I drag the photo, it looks like it'll work, but bounces back into the iPhoto window. Even if I try to drag a photo that work yesterday, same problem. All photos are .jpg
HELP!!! I need to finish before my daughter's wedding next week!

When things go wrong with iMovie (any version), the first thing I would try is to delete (trash) iMovie's preference file. It's in your User>Library>Preferences folder and is named "com.apple.iMovie.plist" or similar. With iMovie '08 the name is probably "com.apple.iMovie7.plist". If not look for any .plist file containing the iMovie name. The '09 version uses iMovie8 in the .plist name. Be sure to close iMovie before trashing the .plist file.
Don't worry, when next opened iMovie will create a new version with the default settings. You may need to change some settings to suit your own preference.
The preference file can sometimes become corrupted, causing iMovie to behave oddly.

  • Dragging photos into imovie

scanned photos show up in my library but imovie won't allow me to drag them in. any ideas?

What format are they in? Try converting them to JPEG. You can do this in the Preview app.

  • Trouble Importing Photos into iMovie

I am trying to import photos into iMovie and am having trouble. They look like they are importing OK, and when the import is through (the red bar has finished loading) the picture disappears and the clip becomes blank. This is happening when I import from the finder, from iPhoto, or from FILE>Import, and with lots of different photo sizes, none seem to work. My iMovie project file is located on an external drive with tons of space. I have plenty of space of the startup disk, so I don't know why this is happening, and it was working fine a few days ago. Any ideas?

  • Help! can't drag photos into or within imovie

I have a couple hundred pictures in imovie already.  everything was working fine, and now I am unable to drag photos into the project.  it shows the green line and the plus sign as if its adding it but nothing happens.  it has been freezing and i have tried restarting it which worked initially but not anymore.  I can add music and videos, just not pictures. I also realized that I cannot drag the photos around within the project now. I have to present this on Monday! I make a slideshow/movie every year and this is a brand new MacBook so I can't believe I am having problems when my old computer worked fine!

    Any of the Following:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Unable to drag a photo into imovie 08 no photo settings available

Hi - any help appreciated - I'm unable for some reason to drag a photo into my project. It's the first time I've used iMovie 08 but am quite a proficient mac user. Photo Library is visible and I can select photos no problem. The photo settings dialog box doesn't appear and if I drag over to the editing window it doesn't appear (but there is a green plus).
Photos are on an external drive, don;t know if this is anything to do with it.
    Thanks in advance
    Hayley

My photos are on an external drive too and have no issues. That doesn't rule out the external drive as a problem for you but hopefully confirms for you that you should be able to get it to work.
What happens if you drag the photo or a photo from either your desktop or from the iphoto application itself.
Have you tried closing imovie and re-launching it.

  • Can't import photos from new "Photo" into iMovie 9.0.

Since upgrading to the new Photo app, iMovie 9.0 only recognizes Photo Booth.  Previously I could drag and drop selected photos into iMovie, but now can't import them that way or through the Photo Browser in iMovie.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for your insight.  Over the course of about a week, I did persistently try to upgrade to iMovie 10 but, despite the help of the Apple Support Community, could not get all my projects to migrate properly from iMovie 9 to 10.  Many of them Many of the 300 short projects come in a jumbled mess.  So I'm stuck with iMovie 9, which, in turn, means Photos won't connect properly when working with iMovie.  At least I know to stop trying and I'm able to go back to iPhoto without suffering any repercussions.

  • Trouble inserting photos into iMovie

I am trying to import some photos into iMovie that I copied from a website. When I try to insert them from a file on my desktop, where I saved them, I only get a portion of the photo. I went back to the folder and opened each picture outside of iMovie and they are complete pictures of high resolution. When I insert them, they turn out to be a part of the photo in low resolution. Ideas?

You might also try dragging the folder into iphoto and see if they will import there. Then access them from within imovie. If iphoto won't see them then you will need to convert them like was already suggested.

  • Import non-iPhoto photo into iMovie

How do you import a non-iPhoto photo into iMovie? I cannot figure out a way to do this.
I use Adobe's Lightroom for all of my photo needs and would like to avoid iPhoto if possible.

You can drag and drop a photo into your project from the Finder. JPEG or PNG will work best.

  • How do you import photos into imovie?

How do you import photos into imovie?

If you can open a Finder Window to your photos, you can drag them in to an iMovie project from the Finder.
Some third party apps might support drag and drop, but I haven't got Lightroom to test it. If drag and drop from LightRoom does not work, try exporting from LightRoom into a Finder folder and drag them in from there.

  • Can't find some albums when trying to insert photos into other programs

I am having trouble finding albums (and thus pictures) when trying to insert photos into a Word document or upload to mySpace/ facebook etc.
After choosing 'insert<picture<from file<pictures<iPhoto Library' , I have the option of looking into the year-month-date or by album. Since I have a better memory of the 50+ albums I have created rather than their dates, I choose "Albums". This list only contains about half of my albums (with folder icons) and it appears outdated...ie one of the albums no longer exists in iPhoto and has been changed to a folders with several albums in it.
I'm wondering why this is happening or how i can update the album list. I realize i could use the year-month-day thing but that is too frustrating.

    Hi chantreya,
iPhoto 5 now stores the Album information in a data xml file. The Albums folder within the iPhoto Library folder is no longer used. At some point, usually after a rebuild, you will no longer have that folder in the Finder.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
    Do this for each album.
    Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.
One important thing to know is you can set up a graphic program to be an external editor (when you double click an image in the library} such as PhotoShop or PS Elements. You set up that within iPhoto Preferences. Just make sure you save the image flattened and with the same name. The edits will then be relected in iPhoto when you hit "save".
