  • Can I activate with a phone number from another state?

Hi, I'm thinking buying the phone but wanted to know if I can or how I can activate it with a number from another state. I travel between Hawaii and Nevada a lot and was thinking about getting a local number in Nevada for the iphone. However, all my billing adresses from credit cards have Hawaii addresses. I also don't have any kind of address in Nevada. Anyone know if this can be done?

    reading the OP's statement...
The OP lives in Hawaii and wants to activate a iPhone with a Nevada phone number which the OP does not have yet. The OP also has not billing address in Nevada or any Nevada address. Now while AT&T will give you a out of state number and they will carry a out of state number with you. iTunes is set up to give you a local number, upon activating a new phone iTunes is not designed or equipted to let you choose which areacode you would to start your AT&T account.
*You are correct but not in the case of what the OP is asking for*... The OP does not currently have this number, so once again for the correct advice is below
+iTunes will not allow you to request a number from another state that is different from your billing address, you will have to call AT&T first to setup the account, then activate within iTunes+

  • IMessage and Facetime won't activate phone number

    Hi guys.
    Here's the story.
I had an Unlocked iPhone 4, bought in Brazil and using a brazilian carrier, till recently, and both iMessage and Facetime worked normally, using my apple ID or my phone number.
After I was robbed, I got an iPhone 4S, factory unlocked, bought in the United States, and started using it with my brazilian carrier sim.
I restored my iPhone 4 backup, to maintain all my notes, calendar, photos, etc.
But now I noticed that facetime and imessage are not working with my phone number. They just keep shoping the message "Waiting for activation" or something like that, with my phone status as "Verifying".
I tried removing and re-inserting the sim, rebooting the phone, activating and deactivating imessage and facetime, but they just won't verify my number...
Also, when I check my phone on iTunes, the "Phone Number" field states "N/A". With my former phone the number would show on the iTunes screen.
Can someone help me? I am running on iOS 5.0.1., no jailbreak and using my brazilian Apple ID.
Hope someone can help, I tried several online tutorials, such as the timezone one, or the DNS router, and none worked.
    Regards,

I just activated a new iphone 4s and restored from a backup of my former iphone 3gs - had the same problem - Waiting for Activation on both facetime and imessage. I tried all the usual fixes, reset all, hard reset, turn facetime/imessage on and off, and on and on. 2 hours on phone with tech support to no avail.
I just found the fix on my own - no clue if it will work for everyone. But it's ridiculously easy and worth a shot so you don't waste hours and hours resetting/synching as I did.
All I did was go into settings>phone>my number - erase it by touching the ">". Then re-enter it making sure to input with the "+" and country code. For example in the US: +1(508) 569-9901
No hard reset necessary. I went into settings>facetime and imessage, immediately after inputting my phone number again and the dreaded "waiting for activation" message was gone. I tested sending a message - came thru to the other party fine and facetiming another device (my mom's ipad some distance away) and it rang thru with everything working properly i.e., video/audio.

  • My iMessage will not activate with my phone number when I recieved a new apple ID.

I made a new apple ID because my old one would not let me download any new apps from the app store.
Everything works great with my new appleID EXCEPT it will not let me use imessage with my phone number.
I have tried network resets, turning on/off the restrictions, everything.
Plus... if and when i get iMessage to verify with my phone number.. How do I connect my Macbook, iPad, and iPhone to all sync with my NEW apple ID and get my iMessage working on all three of them with my phone number?

  • 2 iPhones in my house, both on the same Apple ID. Just got iPad mini, want to use iMessage with my phone number, but iPad only picks up other more recently added number (not mine) when I go to message settings. Is there a way to default to other number?

Hi guys, so we have 2 iPhones in my house, both on the same Apple ID so that my mum and I can share everything. I have just got an iPad mini, and would like to use iMessage on it with my phone number, but the iPad only picks up other more recently added number (not mine, my mums) when I go to message settings. Is there a way to make the iPad default to other number?

  • How do I fix my iMessage to work with my phone number?

Two days ago, my iMessage randomly decided to stop working. I am abroad in Asia right now so I have been using iMessage to keep in touch with friends and family at home (US) when I am connected through wifi.
My issue is that under the "Send and Recieve" in the iMessage settings, my phone number is not listed. Originally, it was greyed out and not selected but after going to an Apple store here and rebooting the settings, the phone number disappeared all together. I have turned off/on wifi, airplane mode, imessage, facetime, date/time, etc. I know the Apple ID is registered with my phone number because when I choose to sign out of my Apple ID and the sign back in under the iMessage settings, my phone number and email are selected to be used. But when I click Next, only my email is shown.
I will be abroad at least a few more weeks and would really like for it to work here again. I'm afraid it won't work when I'm back in the US as well. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Correct, my cellular data is currently off. I don't think this will solve my problem because I was able to use iMessage before without my data and only on wifi. If nothing else works, I will try this. But I would like to try to find a solution that doesn't require me using data.

  • Unlink phone number from Apple ID due to facetime

Apple ID used for many years shared by family. Bought many songs and apps to be used on wife and kids iphone ipod touches.  NOW with facetime I want to be able to remove my phone number from that Apple ID and create a new one JUST FOR FACETIME.  Keep the original id just for purchases; sharing apps with family. Problem is our ipads use the original id and seem to be assigned my phone number and email.  I do NOT want my wife and kids getting my facetime calls and texts!!  I have created the new id but cannot seem to remove my phone number from the old id.  DO I need to completely reset my iphone to do this?  Do I also need to reset the kids ipads?

    Hi, Dranon.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps for removing your phone number from your Apple ID.  I also would recommend signing out completely of iMessage and FaceTime on any device that uses your Apple ID.
    Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.

  • Associating Skype's user name with the phone number!

Hello there, I always love using Skype but I haven't been using it that much recently due to the rise of other video chat apps like FaceTime. I think one of the struggles that Skype users face is the need to know their friends exact user name or email address. In my opinion, adding the ability to associate Skype user name with a phone number (like Whatsapp & FaceTime) would make it much more convenient and will help Skype to spread to more users especially with the availability on all phones OS.

    Hi jjthexer,
here, I'll throw in a frame you can use by adding the meat of the script into it:
    # The path where you store your csv file that includes the user-information
    $path = "C:\ExampleFolder\example.csv"
    # Load the Csv file into PowerShell
    $users = Import-Csv $path
    # Now do for each of those
    foreach ($User in $users)
    # Step 1: Check whether the user exists
    # Step 2: If it exists, add telephone number to AD object
You'll need to figure out how to fill out the foreach loop yourself (there are plenty of learning ressources here on technet to do so on your own), or wait until someone else cheats and tells you more ;).
Noticed that I changed the "Get-Content" into "Import-Csv"? It alters the way you receive the data. Suffice to say, Import-Csv is cooler when dealing with Csv files. Try out these two commands (after declaring the path variable to your csv file) to see the
    difference:
    (Get-Content $path)[1] | FL *
    (Import-Csv $path)[0] | FL *
Another thing you used is the add-pssnapin command. What this does is load the Quest Commands to access the Active Directory. For it to work, you need to have these installed. There is a Microsoft native command set that is available on all computers that
have an AD Management Console. Either of those will work, if you meet the stated prerequisites. Both are best placed at the head of the script. Here are the two commands again for reference:
    # Load Quest AD Cmdlets
    Add-PSSnapin quest.activeroles.admanagement
    # Load Microsoft AD Cmdlets
    Import-Module ActiveDirectory
Hopefully, that info will be of some help to you :)
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • I replaced my iPhone with a Galaxy 5 and am not receiving all of my text messages. The sales person told me to remove my phone number from iTunes to stop this from happening. Is that true? What does iTunes have to do with text messages?

I replaced my iPhone with a Samsung Galaxy5 and I am not receiving all of my text messages now. The rep at the store told me to go to iTunes and take my phone # off of the account and that would fix the problem. Is that true? What does iTunes have to do with text messages anyway?

Frequently asked questions about Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5622
An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services. You don't have to create a new account for each service—just use your Apple ID.
How do I change my Apple ID Name or personal information?
You can change your Apple ID Name at My Apple ID. Click on Manage your Apple ID and sign in with your Apple ID name and password. Click Edit and enter the new information, then click Save Changes. Changes take effect immediately. You can also use My Apple ID to change your personal information, such as your mailing address or email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.

i've backup in itunes with another phone number activation , now i want active with new phone number without losing old backups , what can i do for this problem ??

If I get this right, you've ported your phone number to AT&T with the purchase of the iPhone. That is considered opening your own account under your name. Your brother's account is not ported to AT&T unless you used his SS# instead of yours. Your brother still has his account under Verizon Wireless, all you did was use your cell phone number to when you opened your own AT&T account.
If you don't want to use your Verizon Wireless phone #, my suggestion is to call AT&T customer service and explain that you want a new phone number instead of the ported Verizon number.

  • If I set my phone to receive Imessages with my phone number ONLY, will that prevent someone else from having them sent to their device?

If I set my phone to receive Imessages with my phone number ONLY, will that prevent someone else from having them sent to their device?

If I'm correct, as long as someone is logged into your Apple ID, they can receive your messages. If you think someone else is using your Apple ID, change your password.
