Trying to find software
I am trying to find out the kind of software I need, and if it is available for my IMac, to track the students I tutor (dates, times) along with travel expenses (miles, gas, tolls). My Imac runs on the OS X 10.4.9. I have read the topics and I am not sure if this is the right place, but hopefully someone can help.

From the pictures I found, there should be two ports on the back - a firewire 400 and a serial port. But I'm not clear how many variations of this duet there may actually have been (there is also a duet 2 I saw, but that is clearly distinct from the duet).
If your ports look like that, regardless of the cable, that port on the right is a standard firewire 400 port. The one on the left looks like a standard serial port to me.

They actually have those at the stores usually, so you could take the duet to an Apple store, tell them what you believe you need, and then make sure with them before you actually buy anything. -

Your account information shows you are running iOS 4.2.
If you have an iPhone 3G, this is the latest version of iOS you can run on it.
If you are using an iPhone 3GS you will need to update via iTunes as is described in the Article you were linked from. -

I'm trying to find out how to export my apple contacts to the Salesforce software and they need to be in a csv format and I don't know if this is possible and how to do it if it is?

The file or clipboard contents will be in Tab Separated vars, so you'll have to open with a spreadsheet program and save as Comma Separated Vars format. -
I am trying to find an app or software to burn iMovie 11 slideshow to a dvd. I have a MacBook Pro with Mavericks. There are a lot of DVD Creator apps at the App store. Looking for a recommendation of what to use and tips. Thank you.
I've been using "Burn" for years and it has been the only DVD burning software I have ever used for the mac. I have never needed to look at other apps. Unless you want something that has more bells and whistles such as Roxio's "Toast" : http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/pro/overview.html
There are thousands of quality free apps out there for the mac that are not part of the App Store. All you have to do is read reviews online, do a little search, the Apple forums are full of recommendations from experienced users that have been here for years... -
I am trying to find out how to assign files with particular extensions to the appropriate software. At the moment when I create a file using Word it is apparently given the extension .docx but Word doesn't recognise its own files. How do I allocate the extension .docx to Word? There used to be a way of doing it, I think under "Preferences" but I can't seem to find it.

ConnieNo, you aren't missing anything, Photostream isn't on the iCloud.com webpage. You can reset Photostream from there though by clicking on your name on the main page and choosing the advanced option.

I'm trying to find an external drive for the MacPro that will allow me to password protect the external drive in case it is taken. Any suggestions on a very reliable one that is 2TB or a third party software that is compatable with the need I describe?

File Vault on Snow Leopard only encrypts home folders you select, and doesn't work well with Time Machine.

I'm trying to install software from Yamaha keyboards to connect my keyboard to my computer. I insert the CD and nothing happens. Yamaha told me to "find your CD drive" and open the software. How do I find the CD drive?
When you insert a CD/DVD in the optical drive, does an icon appear on the desktop? If not open Finder Preferences and check the appropriate box(s).

My IPAD has not been used in almost two.... I have tried to update software but when go to Settings, General I can not find Software Updates where it should be between About and Sounds, what can I do? Nothing has been updated, tried through ITunes on PC and said I needed to update to ITunes 10.1 and can't do this either, please help me. Can't find ICloud either!

Thanks, I found it, but it says my apple account needs to be registered with a school. I do want to try out the course manger product. Do you know of any idividual or "try out" pathways for the course manager product?

i have had e mails back over the last question i asked over my wifi problem.
the e mails i recieved had nothing to do with resolving this matter i am banging my head against a brick wall .
still no wiser about why wifi stopped working trying to find some idea why my i pod suddenly stopped working is a joke .
as i stated before will never buy another i pod ever .
this was my pride and joy always looked after it never dropped it or got it wet it just lookes like apple have left it behind
i plugged my grand sons i pod in to my i tunes on my computer and it asked if i wanted to update it to4.1 or something like that, it will not do that with mine
