Trying to update iphone software
It's been a long time since I've updated my phone so I tried to download the latest software update on itunes but due to my poor internet connection I ended up having to download the newest upgrade from a website via direct link. the website I used is http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/10/09/iphone-os-3-1-2-firmware-update-direct- download-links/
After I downloaded the update I clicked on it and all it does is start itunes. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to get this file to work?!?
An even cursory search of this forum before posting would have revealed numerous similar threads and probably have saved you time.
Disable all firewall and antivirus programs before downloading.

ITunes not recognising network connectio to update iPhone software

Correct, and read the other 100 posts about this today. You and the owners of a couple of other million i-devices are all trying to update at the same time and you're encountering a traffic jam.
Some have said changing DNS servers helped, or maybe it is snake oil.

I have a macbook pro, and am trying to update my software. I recently bought an iphone 5, and my software is to out of date to sync my phone with itunes. I currently am running 10.5.8 and I need to update to atleast 10.6.8. Just wondering if I need to purchase it from apple or if there is an easy/free way to update it.
you need to purchase it: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard. It is only on a disk, not in download form.

I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S, 16 GB to the most recent version (8.1?). I don't know what I was updating from, because I can't access that, but it was whatever was installed on it (I got it about a year ago, so probably 6.something).
It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync with my macbook plus, which is what I have always sync'd it to. (I backed it up and sync'd it right before I tried to update the software.)
Since it originally froze almost 3 hours ago, it shows a white screen with the apple on it and a line underneath. When I try to sync with my laptop, it says it needs me to enter a passcode on the phone, which I can't enter because the screen is frozen. So I'm unable to access the iPhone portion of iTunes.
I have tried to turn it off, with no luck. I have tried rebooting my laptop and syncing, but I still get the same result.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I really wanted to wait to update the software, but I was having internet connectivity issues for the past 3 weeks, and Sprint suggested updating the phone's software.

I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.
Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock. -
hi..i just bought an iphone 5 yesterday 32GB..and now when i am trying to update the software..it says the following: unable to check for update/an error occurred while cheking for a software update...please help me..is it a problem in my new iphone??or it's just an temporary error in the apple software center???

Yes. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim card need not be activated, but it must be valid & present. If you want to update, you need to get a sim card. -
Trying to update my software (iPhone and iPad) it says my iTunes software needs to be updated, but it is already is. I try this over and over again. I've already reinstalled iTunes and have shut down and restarted my Mac several times. How can I fix this?

You can't do anything. You have encountered the activation lock. Unless you have some sort of contact with the previous owner you have bought a very expensive paper weight.
