Trying to use non .mp3 file extension in enclosure url

We use an asp page to record hits on our podcasts and to keep the hosting location flexible (most of our mp3 files are stored out on Akamai currently). I'm guessing that the use of this asp page as the link in my <enclosure url=> tag is what is keeping my rss feed from working with ITunes. Is it possible to use a url that doesn't end in "m4a", "mp3", "mov", "mp4", "m4v", or "pdf"? And is this the tag that ITunes specifically looks at in order to accept the content?
I've been told that our feed works with other podcatchers but not ITunes.
If it helps, I can post the feed XML.
Thanks.

I think you have to use one of those extensions. Can you map .mp3 to .asp on your server? I know with apache I could make an extension act like any other extension, I'd be surprised if you can't do that with an .asp file. Under apache it would either be a simple symbolic link, or a rewrite command. I'd suggest to see if that is possible.
The spec is at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html about half way down the page. Mike

Hi there, I'm now trying to use the new file features in Flash 10 but I'm getting this error when I try something like

  • How do I specify quicktime plugin for use by mp3 files on ppc mac

In the Applications section of Firefox Preferences I find no way to specify that the Quicktime PLUG-IN is to be used for mp3 files. Although this action option is a provided for other kinds of files, that action option is missing for MP3 Audio file (audio/mp3) and for MP3 Audio File (audio/x-mp3).
I can specify that the Quicktime PLAYER should be used, but not the plug-in. How can I specify that I want the plug-in to be used?

You need to set in the QuickTime Preferences what files types you want that plugin to handle.

  • Embedded Windows Media PLayer With Non-Standard File Extension

I have embedded a windows media player in a asp.net web page, using the usual
<object> and <embed> tags. The video is served by an ashx (http handler). When I try to play the video, I usually (but not always) get an error message telling me that the file extension (ashx) does not match the file format.
This happens in IE (8, 9, 10, 11) and also in Firefox (latest) with the WMP plugin.
I know that the tags (with classid, etc) are correct because the media player displays and allows me to click the 'play' button.
The ashx returns the correct mime type (video/x-ms-wmv) and a valid file name (somevideo.wmv) in the response headers. I have tried content-disposition attachment and inline.
    I have tried urls using 'http://', 'https://', and '//' (which I prefer)
If I put the url (including the .ashx) of the video file in the browser address bar directly, the video downloads and plays in the standalone media player.
If I modify the object tag to use a direct path to the video file (/somewhere/somevideo.wmv), it works - but I can't use this as a solution.
The same ashx serves up video and audio in various other formats with out any fuss - it just seems that the embedded windows media player doesn't like it.
This has been working for several years - I think this is some new behavior, though I can't identify what has changed, other than browser updates.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Am I missing something simple?

  • Why do I sometimes get an error message when trying to export as mp3 file?

I'm using a Intel Core Duo Imac 2 Ghz with 2 meg memory and just upgraded to iLife 08. I was excited to see that Garageband will now let you save/export your projects as MP3 files. But I sometimes get an error message, i.e., -46 or some such number, when I try to save/export the project to iWeb. What is causing this? If I save the same project as an AAC file everything is fine. Go figure. I was really looking forward to Apple doing this in this release and won't be happy until it works perfectly. For your information I record a audio podcast and export the recorded file to iWeb and publish the site to .mac. So I'm a loyal Apple customer. My site is a gay oriented website and the new features of iWeb , including Photo albums can be viewed there. I'll email the link to anyone interested.

I know man what your saying. I should have written it down when it happened last night. I figured if anyone had had the same issue they might know the reason. I'll try doing a test recording today and see if the same issue arises. Meanwhile, if anyone has this happen to them please let me know. Thanks

  • Using a dynamic page in an enclosure url tag.

I am trying to use a dynamic page (e.g. asp, jsp, .cfm) to stream content to itunes as part of a podcast.
So... the ASP file opens an mp3 file on the server-side, and sends it in binary format down to itunes. I setup the correct file type in the header (e.g. application/octet-stream) in the , but it does not show up in the podcast (everything else does).
The question is, if itunes sees something other than "mp3, m4a, m4b, m4p, etc." in the <enclosure url> tag, is it just rejecting it based on the name?
If I just take the URL that is in the enclosure and paste it in a browser, the file comes up fine with no dialog, etc., it just streams to the browser which invokes itunes which plays it.
But again, the podcast is not loading it.
    Any help appreciated.
    Scott.

I don't know anything about asp or javareg.
In Java, if classes are in a jar file, the jar file must be specified explicitly in the classpath, not just the directory containing the jar file. Maybe you already know this, but worth a shot.

  • Can I use an mp3 file as one of my basic tracks in which to overdub onto?

On the iPad I will want to take existing song files (say mp3) and have them be a track in which to overdub.

Forget the Lulu instruction about double click to install. Quit Acobat Distiller and Acrobat Pro. Move the Lulu joboptions file to the Adobe PDF Settings folder. The path to it is:
    HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe PDF/Settings/

You're in the right folder when you see other joboptions files already in the Settings folder.
Next, launch Pages and open your document.
From the File menu, select Page Setup. In that window, select Adobe PDF 7 for "Format for," choose your paper size, orientation and scale % and click OK.

  • RMAN is trying to read non-existing files

We have an application that runs on two
Oracle databases - one serves as processing engine and another one as a data warehouse.
The enformation is exchanged using transportable tablespaces - they are plugged in into the warehouse, information is moved
using INSERT AS SELECT, and then
    these tablespaces are dropped.
After the drop is completed, I attempt to
run database-level incremental backup of the
warehouse. After allocating channels and doing "implicit partial resync of the recovery catalog" RMAN displayes messages
RMAN-06052: no parent backup or copy of datafile 317 found.
The same message is displayed for files
    313
    314
    316
    317
    319
    320
    321
But there is no file 317 in the database!
    SELECT * from V$DATAFILE WHERE File#=317
    returns no rows
These files do appear in SYS.FILE$
where they have STATUS$ column equal to 1,
while most other files have STATUS$ = 2.
However, there are quite a few other files
in SYS.FILE$ that also have STATUS$=1 (up to File#=333), but RMAN does not list them.
I know that RMAN-06052 is an "information" message indicating that RMAN could not find level-0 (or "parent") backup, but why is it listing files that have been dropped?
    Environment:
Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 on Sun Solaris 2.7
    Regards,
    Sev
    null

    We need the following information:
Complete RMAN output from the incremental backup.
Output from the following query, run at the target database:
    select * from v$datafile where file# in (313,314,316,317,319,320,321);
    select * from file$ where file# in (313,314,316,317,319,320,321);
and the following query, run at the recovery catalog:
    select * from rc_datafile where file# in (313,314,316,317,319,320,321);
These queries should be run immediately after the incremental backup that they
    are concerned about.
You may want to open a TAR with support and upload trace files or see if you can post the information here.
    Thanks.

  • Custom File Extension for Microsoft Access Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv)

I'm trying to use a custom file extension for the Microsoft Access Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv) driver.
I have updated the FileExtns registry to have my new extension.
When I issue the following it does not work.
    select [NoName]
    from openrowset('MSDASQL'
               ,'Driver={Microsoft Access Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv)};
                    DefaultDir=c:\filedir'
               ,'select * from "file.lst"')
If I make the file a .csv it works fine.  However, if it has an extension of not CSV or TXT (in this case .lst, which is in the registry setting) extension it throws the following error and cannot seem to find a solution to it.
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Text Driver] Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.". Msg 7350, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot get the column information from
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)".
In addition, (although I can probably find this elsewhere), I need to have the first line 'BLANK' so that it does not miss data (there is no header row).  Is there  a way to use OPENROWSET without BULK to basically include all rows as data?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
According to your description, I did a test with your script, and got the same message as your post. Usually, by default, the Microsoft Access Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv) supports the four extensions file, such as *.asc, *.csv, *.tab, *.txt. To solve this issue,
I recommend you try to save the LST file in the above format, then use OPENROESET to get data from the supported extensions file in SQL Server.
    In addition, the
OPENROWSET function is mainly used to retrieve remote data from an OLEDB data source, when you use OPENROWSET without BULK, provider_name is a necessary parameter in the script. However, the OPENROWSET (BULK...) is mainly called from a SELECT…FROM clause
within an INSERT statement, when importing bulk data from a data file into SQL Server table. Thus if you need to import bulk data, you should use the basic  syntax: INSERT ... SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK...), also there are some alternatives, such as
    BULK INSERT
    and
    BCP .
    Thanks

  • Change document type without changing file extension

I've recently started using Dreamweaver CS3 after nearly a decade on Homesite (which regrettably wouldn't work on my new Windows 7 machine). I like Dreamweaver's code view but find it lacking in some of the flexibility and intelligence that Homesite had.
Case in point: I work on a rather large site that uses Classic ASP. Most of the site uses .html file extensions, but we have these configured to be processed through the ASP engine. When editing the pages on this site, Dreamweaver sees the .html file extension and assumes they're regular HTML documents, and color codes them accordingly, but it can't figure out ASP comments and code blocks and mangles the color coding. If I try to change the Document Type (in the Application > Server Behaviors panel), Dreamweaver insists on changing the file extension too.
It appears I can modify Dreamweaver's MMDocumentTypes.xml file so that it thinks .html files are ASP. But I don't want to do this globally for ALL the sites I work on, only for this particular site. It would be really nice if I could change the document type definitions on a per-site basis, or to change the document type for a file without having to change the file extension. Surely I'm not the first person to use non-standard file extensions on webpages. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I think you have to disable it in your Operating system:
