Trying to use recovery DVD's

Have 2 L655-S5150 Satellite laptops.  Hard drive failure on laptop #1 and had to do a out of the box restore on laptop #2 using the hidden partition,...worked fine.  Replaced the hard drive on laptop #1, and thus don;t have the partition set up that allows for the restore to out of the box conditions and am now trying to figure out how to get it to out of the box condition.  I thought I could make recovery DVD's using the good laptop #1 and the media recovery utility that is on that Toshiba.  DVD's are created but I can't boot to them...something about something missing.  I have switched hard drives back and forth between the 2 laptops and the both work fine with the good HDD.  What am I missing about this whole recovery concept?  I was trying to avoid buying the DVD's from Toshiba.  Doesn't it make sense that I could make the myself since I have a workng laptop that is the same model as the bad one?  Thoughts about cloning the good HDD drive???  I've spent waaay too much time on this.  I was able to put a windows 7 image onto that drive using a downloaded iso image from Microsoft.  had to enter the key # from the bottom of the laptop, but that went fine.  It doesn't give me all of the factory programs and all, which is indeed what I would like.
any help is appreciated.
dan

hey Jerry,
Same make and model as the old one.  Don't have it in front of me right now, but a Hitachi travelstar 320 Gb SATA drive.  That new drive works fine in lapto #2 (just not a full out of the box assembly of programs...just windows 7 on that drive right now)  I know it doesn;t have anything to do with the new drive b/c when I try to use the DVD's to boot the good laptop (#1) the exact same thing happens.  It almost seems like when I use the Toshiba Recovery Media center to make the DVD's, it does not make them bootable.  Is this possible?  I have also tried this with a USB stick...same issue

  • How to use recovery dvd on new hard drive, install window 7

hello, i have trouble with my laptop. my hard drive got bad sectors and now i need to replace my hdd to new one. im not sure how to reinstall window 7 on my new hdd.
is it possible to install operating system on new hard drive using recovery disk? and how?

    Hi,
Yes, recovery discs will work on a new hard drive, but it's generally best to ensure that the replacement drive is of the same capacity ( slightly larger is Ok ) as the original - recovery discs can have issue when used on a drive that has a smaller capacity than the original.
When you have replaced the HDD, all you need to do is as follows.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.
    Insert the 1st Recovery Disc.
Select Boot options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.
You will be prompted to insert subsequent discs as required.

  • Can't open attachments in Outlook Express since using recovery DVD

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop on Windows xp. I had to run the product recovery dvd-rom as it was really playing up switching it self off and all kinds well thats sorted now and is back to running normal.
The only problem now is, when i try and open an attachment in my Emails, it says this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Please can any one help has I have sat here for hours and still can't find a fix.

It seems that you have lost your file associations.
The easiest way would be to "save as" the attachment onto a folder on the hard drive, then right click the saved file a choose "open with". From the drop down list, select the apropriate program and check the box that says "always use this program". You will have to do that for all new file extensions as they come. Good luck.
I did a quick search on Google for third party software that would automate the process and there is plenty.
    Just type: restore file extensions.

  • Can not use recovery DVD 'Wrong machine' error occurs

My Dealer/Service center replaced the motherboard when I had a start up problem. My recovery DVD which originally comes with the notebook does not work anymore. When I start recovery procedure follow message is shown: 'Wrong machine'.
Is it possible to download new one from the Toshiba website? If yes from where exactly?
My product is registered in October 2004.

    Hello
If you use wrong machine as searching term on this forum you will find many similar treads. When motherboard is changed DMI information must be updated. Without this info identification is not possible.
I recommend you to contact service again. They will update DMI info and you will be able to use recovery media again.
    Good luck!

  • Is it possible to use recovery dvd from Macbook Pro 15 Core Duo on Macbook?

I lost my recovery DVD for my macbook, I can get a set for the Macbook Pro Core Duo from my friend. Is it possible to use it on the macbook or do I have to call Applecare to get the replacement dvds?
    Thanks,
Macbook Core Duo 2.00 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Macbook White Core Duo 2.0Ghz 2.0GB Ram

Apple recovery disks only hae the drivers for the model that they were designed to be used with. There are also system checks in place that may prevent it from even being attempted.
The best thing is to either contact Apple or look for someone who is selling a legitimate MacBook recovery CD set.

  • [U310] How to use recovery DVDs

In windows 8, it is impossible to create recovery DVDs with Lenovo OneKey Recovery 8.0.
The option has been eliminated. WHY?
Now I ordered the DVDs, but I don't know how to use it !! What I did was:
    -  Since U310 has not DVD drive, I create ISO file and burn it to USB drive using UltraISO.
    - BIOS: RAID, Legacy support, boot USB HDD,
But I still get CD/ROM  error while product recovery. Why?
Anyone could help? any other settings needed?
Or the very latest BIOS version of 65CN99WW not support USB HDD image?
thanks in advance for any hints.

    thanks Solid Cruver,
the USB was bootable, and according to your post:
    ‎09-10-2013 05:28 PM
    Inside BIOS
        Under Boot Tab
              Change Boot mode to Legacy
               USB Boot should be enabled
        Under Security
Secure Boot Has to Be disabled
In case the options above are grayed out in your BIOS, Got to Exit Tab and Change OS Optimized Default to Other OS
    and check the options again.
Once All are Set Make sure to save all changed by hitting F10 and enter for Yes
After Hitting enter It will Restart and You have to keep on tapping F12
this should pull up the Boot Menu letting you select where to boot. You should have now your USB Stick as an Option.
The security boot choice can only be found under UEFI boot. But what I need is Boot mode to Legacy, and boot to Legacy first with USB. i.e. if I choose Legacy boot, the security setting will not appear, so I think it will set back to eanabled to prevent other OS installation?
Do I need to choose AHCI and iRST off? Any other tricky things? any priority of the 3 USB ports?

  • Lost hard drive space & recovery partition using Recovery DVDs

My computer crashed, so preformed and system recovery with the System Recovery DVD that I purchased from HP when I bought my HP Pavilion dv9834cl Notebook PC.
When the process was finished, I only got 32 gig of Hard Drive, It's a 320 gig HD! I lost 100 gig of hd space and the recovery partition.
I’m stuck. How can I format my hard drive and create a new Recovery Partition?
    HELP!

Boot into OSX and re-run boot camp assistant. Select the option to remove/delete Windows partition (if you see it).
If not, open disk utlity and try to erase and combine the Windows partition back into your Mac one.

  • Error message when trying to use recovery disks

    Hello,
My hard drive failed, and I had remembered to create a Recovery Disk (2 DVD) in case this happened.  I wanted to use the same hard drive, to see if I could get it back and running, but I get a message, which is in Norwegian since I am living in Norway and that is where I bought it, which says:
    "HPs kundestøtte
Denne datamaskinen støtter ikke systemgjenopprettingsmediet. Du kan ikke gjenopprette dette systemet med mediet.
    0110 - C9C2SEA #UUW - C9C26EA #UUW"
Can there be a problem with the recovery disk I created, or is it because of the failing hard drive? I would not like to buy a new hard drive just to find out it will not work, and that I will be obliged to go and buy a new operating system for this machine.
Thanks in advance for your replies

  • T60P - Trying to use Recovery Set

I have a T60P with a Product Type of 2007.  I bought this off eBay and it does not have a HDD recovery partition.  So I had called Lenovo TS and ordered a $50 recovery cd set.  There are 4 discs in the set that are labelled "1" "2" "Drivers and Apps" and "Supplemental".  I start/boot the Recovery from Disc 1 with the abbreviated image of Windows as instructions indicate.  Right from the get-go, there is a conflict between the screen shows and the labels on the discs.  After entering the language and passing the EULA, the screen prompt says "If you have a set of OS Recovery Disks, pls insert Disk 1 and press y otherwise press No".  At this point, I have Disc 1 in the drive so pressing Yes gets me an error stating, "This is not the correct disk.  Remove the disk and press OK".  Sidebar:  I believe this is calling for a recovery set that the user would have made at the start.  I did not make a set thinking that the recovery partition would be present.  And, as I said, it's not.
So, next the prompt comes back saying, ""If you have a set of OS Recovery Disks, pls insert Disk 1 and press Yes otherwise press No"  Press No and now I'm faced with a prompt box saying, "Insert Product Recovery Disk 1 and press OK"  Well, disc 1 is still in there so I press OK and an error appears, "This is not the correct disk.  Remove the disk and press OK".  So I deduce that it actually is looking for what I call disc 2 which is labelled " "Operating System Recovery Disc". Replace disc 1 with disc 2 and if I say "OK" I get an error saying, "This is not the correct disk.  Remove the disk and press OK"
I gave the TS rep on the phone all the info on the laptop, serial nos, Product Codes, everything I could find.
What would be my next step?  Am I following the correct sequence of uninserting and inserting discs?  Is there anything someone sees I'm doing wrong?

  • Dv7-3188cl no longer recovering using recovery DVDs

I have a dv7-3188cl which I have owned for a few years now.  I started my usual yearly cleanup of my computer; aka reformat and reload of the OS.  I inserted the recovery media into my drive and started the process of reloading the OS.  I received no errors during the second stage of copy files but when I got to the loading of files stage, the process consistently stops at 12% and would stay there for 24+ hours.  There are no significant scratches on the disks, nothing that can't be buffed out with a scratch repair system.  I have used and loaded game disks with more scratches.
What could be causing my system to do this?  I don't think it is the harware as I successfully installed Ubuntu on my system.

    Hi Enforcer83,
I understand that when you are running your recovery from the disks it will not load pass 12% on your HP Pavilion dv7-3188cl Entertainment Notebook PC.
I suggest following the steps in this document for Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 7).
I hope this helps, please let me know how it goes.
Good luck and have a great day!

  • Equium A210-1C4 - Using Recovery DVD after replacing hard drive

My laptops hard drive failed last year and had to be replaced. Vista was installed by the repairer.
However I now want to restore the system back to default.
Will my Toshiba Recovery Disc which I recieved with my PC still word despite the fact the hard drive is different? How can I tell?

This software is not known to me so I cannot say anything about that but why you dont backup just single files which are important for you?
I mean you can copy the pictures, movies, music, data, etc to external HDD and after the installation of OS from recovery disk you could copy all these files back to the internal HDD.

  • Using Recovery media from an identical computer?

I don't have access to my original recovery media. Am I able to perform a factory restore using recovery media created on an identical HP Pavillion DV6-4023TX?
    thanks

I know for sure: using OS installation CD/DVD and the key at the bottom of the machine should NOT be a problem but I have not tried to use Recovery media from other machine(s). Good luck.
