Trying to write an SQL import script

Hello All,
I am trying to write a bulk importer for data for my clients and I am just about there. However I am running into a problem updating records in a second table.
I want to do all this through the SQL Server for resource purposes.
The SQL statement will go through the entire temp table (users to be added or updated) and compare it to the main existing table. First it will compare records and determine who are exactly the same (no changes) and then delete those records out of the temp table. Now it will find the records that are in the table (by employee ID), but have changes in their profiles (name, number, etc.).
This is my problem:
When I compare the phonenumbers in a separate table, which are connected by a sub_id. Example
Main Table: (Fields) sub_id, fname, lname, address, groups, subgroups, etc.
Phonenumbers Table: sub_id, account_id, sub_user_number, active
Right now, I am performing update statements:
-- Update sub_user_number
print('Update sub_user_number');
print('  -sub_user_number3');
UPDATE WENS..SUBSCRIPTION
SET sub_user_number = i.sub_user_number3
  FROM WENS_IMPORT..IMPORT_INSPIRON i INNER JOIN WENS..SUBSCRIPTION s
   ON i.misc1 = s.misc1
  LEFT JOIN WENS..ACCOUNT_USER_GROUPS g
   ON g.sub_id = s.sub_id
  WHERE s.account_id = @account_id
  AND isnull(i.sub_user_number, '') <> isnull(s.sub_user_number, '')
  AND g.group_id IN (@group_id)
The problem is that if I have three numbers, it updates all three numbers with the same number.
Ideally what I would like to do is completely delete the numbers and then re-enter them. For example:
Perform a DELETE of all numbers out of PHONENUMBERS table where maintable.sub_id = temptable.sub_id
LOOP through numbers found in temptable
INSERT new number into PHONENUMBERS (sub_id, account_id, active, sub_user_number)
END LOOP
Therefore at the end of the loop, we will have entered three numbers (two that were originally in there and one that is new)
Could someone help me with the SQL syntax that will work in SQL Server Query analyzer?
Thank you VERY much for anything you all can do.

LOOP through numbers found in temptable
I have only skimmed this thread, but I would say do not loop unless it is truly needed.  Databases are designed to work best with "sets" of information. So it is usually more efficient to process a group of records than one record at a time.
What I usually do with imports is run a series of bulk updates on my #temp table(s) to identify which items are "new" which ones are "changed". When finished I can easily JOIN to the base tables and do a single UPDATE for changed records and INSERT for new records.  Usually a lot more efficient than looping one record at a time.
I want to do all this through the SQL Server for resource
purposes.
BTW: Not to ignore your question, but database questions are usually best answered in a database forum (in your case MS SQL).  Because once you get the information into the #temp table, it is strictly sql from there and any database guru could assist. They do not have to know anything about CF ;-)

  • Newbie: Trying to write PL/SQL that is dynamic based on data

    Hi everyone,
    I was wondering how I would go about writing a report that outer joins based on data from the main table? Here is what I wanna do in pseudo-sql:
    SELECT
         b.po_number,
    a.ht_code,
         b.figure_no,
         b.order_number,
         a.supplier_no,
    b.cert_date,
    b.plant
    FROM header b, part_spec a
    where ...
    begin:
    project = '' /* initialize project */
    /* The table to get the project value for the report is named ORDER01 or ORDER02 or ... */
    /* It is the word ORDER concatenated with the plant value above. */
    select project from 'ORDER' || :PLANT;
    END;
    How would I do this with APEX 2.0?
    I've successfully used APEX to generate SQL Query reports (REGION) but never PL/SQL.
    Your help is appreciated,

    OK, Thanks for the quick feedback. Here is a quick generic SQL I wrote up to show my goal using your suggestion. Notice the ERP_ORDERHDR and plant values in each of the SQLs below.
    SELECT b.cust_po_no,
    a.ht_code,
         b.item_no,
         b.ERP_ORDER_NO,
         a.supplier_code,
    b.cert_date,
    c.prj
    FROM CERT_HDR b, PART_DETL a, ERP_ORDERHDR011 c
    WHERE plant = 1
    AND a.cert_no = b.cert_no
    AND a.cert_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_cert_no) || '%%%'
    AND b.cust_po_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_cust_po_no) || '%%%'
    AND a.ht_code like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_ht_code) || '%%%'
    AND b.item_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_item_no) || '%%%'
    AND b.ERP_ORDER_NO like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_sales_order) || '%%%'
    AND (b.cert_date BETWEEN :P1_DATE_FROM AND :P1_DATE_TO)
    AND c.orno (+) = b.ERP_ORDER_NO
    AND c.prj like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_project) || '%%%'
    UNION ALL
    SELECT      b.cust_po_no,
    a.ht_code,
         b.item_no,
         b.ERP_ORDER_NO,
         a.supplier_code,
    b.cert_date,
    c.prj
    FROM CERT_HDR b, PART_DETL a, ERP_ORDERHDR012 c
    WHERE plant = 2
    AND a.cert_no = b.cert_no
    AND a.cert_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_cert_no) || '%%%'
    AND b.cust_po_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_cust_po_no) || '%%%'
    AND a.ht_code like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_ht_code) || '%%%'
    AND b.item_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_item_no) || '%%%'
    AND b.ERP_ORDER_NO like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_sales_order) || '%%%'
    AND (b.cert_date BETWEEN :P1_DATE_FROM AND :P1_DATE_TO)
    AND c.orno (+) = b.ERP_ORDER_NO
    AND c.prj like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_project) || '%%%'
    UNION ALL
    SELECT      b.cust_po_no,
    a.ht_code,
         b.item_no,
         b.ERP_ORDER_NO,
         a.supplier_code,
    b.cert_date,
    c.prj
    FROM CERT_HDR b, PART_DETL a, ERP_ORDERHDR014 c
    WHERE (plant = 4 or plant = 5 or plant = 8)
    AND a.cert_no = b.cert_no
    AND a.cert_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_cert_no) || '%%%'
    AND b.cust_po_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_cust_po_no) || '%%%'
    AND a.ht_code like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_ht_code) || '%%%'
    AND b.item_no like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_item_no) || '%%%'
    AND b.ERP_ORDER_NO like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_sales_order) || '%%%'
    AND (b.cert_date BETWEEN :P1_DATE_FROM AND :P1_DATE_TO)
    AND c.orno (+) = b.ERP_ORDER_NO
    AND c.prj like '%%%' || UPPER(:p1_project) || '%%%'
    and this would go on for up to 4 more unions. Is there a way to use PL/SQL to make it more clean? Another issue I have with the above is that the c.orno field that I try to outer join is not numeric whereas the b.ERP_ORDER_NO is numeric. I can to_char(c.orno) but how do I do that and still have an outer join? If I can use PL/SQL, I hope to be able to better control the output and eliminate the unions.
    I hope this is enough information.
    Thanks,
    FerrisWheel

  • Trying to write a simple apple script to reveal a file.

    This is what I have now:
    tell application "Finder" to reveal POSIX path of "/Users/lloyd/Desktop/my file.txt"
    but I get this error:
    error "Finder got an error: Can’t make \"/Users/lloyd/Desktop/my file.txt\" into type item." number -1700 from "/Users/lloyd/Desktop/my file.txt" to item
    Any help is much appreciated

    Thanks for the quick answer.  Tried changing to file but am now getting this error:
    error "Can’t get POSIX file of \"/Users/lloyd/Desktop/my file.txt\"." number -1728 from POSIX file of "/Users/lloyd/Desktop/my file.txt"
    btw, I meant to type reveal instead of open but don't think that should be a problem right?  The file exists on the desktop, does the space in the file name create a problem?

    Actually I'm working on an server side web application, which can be configured with Oracle, SQL Server and My SQL using respective databse script file. For example I'm running three individual web applications of same type but with different dbs. So as we know that the separator in Oracle is "\" in MySQL it is ";" and in SQL Server it is "GO". So I think, I have to read the separator accordingly and then divide these lines into separate SQL queries.

  • Import script (SQL to FDM) - ConnectionRead error

    Hi,
    I have written an import script in FDM to load data from a SQL view. This script works fine when loading approx 5,000 rows, however, fails when trying to load 20k+ rows
    The error message I am receiving is:
    Detail: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionRead (recv()).
    At line: 72
    Line 72 = rs.movenext 'moves to the next record in the SQL view.
    I have tried ignoring a few columns in the import script (to reduce the data volume) - this works, however I need all columns.
    Below is a copy of the script:
    Function COG1_BrandPL(strLoc, lngCatKey, dblPerKey, strWorkTableName)
    Dim cnSS 'ADO connection object
    Dim strSQL 'SQL string
    Dim rs 'Source (Cognos) recordset
    Dim rsAppend 'FDM recordset
    'Initialize ADO objects
    Set cnSS = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    Set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    'Open FDM table recordset for appending
    Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTableAppend(strWorkTableName)
    'Connect to SQL Server database
    cnSS.open "Driver={SQL Server};Server=XXXXXXXXX;OLE DB Services =-2;Database=XXXXXX;Uid=USER;Pwd=PASSWORD;"
    'Create SQL query string
    strSQL = "Select * FROM Corporate_PLUOP_view"
    'Open source recordset
    rs.Open strSQL, cnSS
    'Check for data in source system
    If rs.bof AND rs.eof Then
    RES.PlngActionType = 2
    RES.PstrActionValue = "No records to load!"
    COG1_BrandPL = False
    Exit Function
    End If
    'Loop through source records and append to FDM table
    If Not rs.bof And Not rs.eof Then
    Do While Not rs.eof
    rsAppend.AddNew
    rsAppend.Fields("PartitionKey") = RES.PlngLocKey
    rsAppend.Fields("CatKey") = lngCatKey
    rsAppend.Fields("PeriodKey") = dblPerKey
    rsAppend.Fields("DataView") = "YTD"
    'From Cognos
    rsAppend.Fields("UD3") = rs.fields("Cube").value
    rsAppend.Fields("Entity") = rs.fields("Entity").value
    rsAppend.Fields("UD1") = rs.fields("Custom1").value
    rsAppend.Fields("Account") = rs.fields("Account").value
    rsAppend.Fields("ICP") = rs.fields("ICP").value
    rsAppend.Fields("UD2") = rs.fields("Custom2").value
    rsAppend.Fields("Amount") = rs.fields("QPR_Value").value
    rsAppend.Update
    rs.movenext
    Loop
    End If
    rs.close
    cnSS.close
    'Assign Return value
    COG1_BrandPL = True
    End Function
    The only other thing I have tried is copying and pasting the script to Excel.... This works for ALL rows... so seems to be a communication issue between FDM and SQL?
    Any ideas?

  • Trying to find pl/sql that will show you what script is running

    I'm looking for a way, inside sql, to find the name of an executing/running script from inside the script itself.
    For example, I have a master script called run.sql with these contents:
    @@a.sql
    @@b.sql
    exit
    A.sql has these contents:
    spool a.log
    select ora_database_name from dual;
    spool off;
    B.sql has these contents:
    spool b.log
    select sys_context('userenv','current_schema') from dual;
    spool off;
    Is there a way in A.sql and B.sql to (dynamically) find out the name of the script? E.g.
    A.sql:
    select script_name into script from dual;
    spool script.log
    Where "script_name" is the actual code or variable or whatever to find out what the script is called.
    Some variables such as database_name, current_schema, etc can be found dynamically (on-the-fly), but is there a way to do this with the script that's running (short of hunting from v$session and trimming the sql_text, or hard-coding the name in the spool command)?
    Also, if you're in sqlplus and you "get a.sql" (into the buffer) then you can save or list, or whatever, and it implicitly knows what script you're referring to. Is this value stored in some sort of variable anywhere?
    This sort of thing is easy to do in unix shell commands, but is there a way to do this in Oracle?

    The only way to do that is to write better SQL. For example:
    echo off
    INSERT /* script name = myinserts.sql */ INTO t1 SELECT * FROM t2;
    SELECT /* script executing is myscript.sql */ col1, col2, col3
    FROM mytable;with labelled statements.
    Then you can find the answer by looking in numerous places in the dynamic performance views such as V$SQL.
    Another technique is to use calls to DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO.SET_MODULE, SET_ACTION, and SET_CLIENTINFO to poke the information into V$SESSION

  • SQL errors in SMS_STATE_SYSTEM - Trying to write NULL values to PropertyLocale

    Hi!
    We are getting a lot of the following error in the SMS_STATE_SYSTEM:

    nulls. UPDATE fails. : usp_BuildCatalogPropertyTable
    Please refer to your Configuration Manager documentation, SQL Server documentation, or the Microsoft Knowledge Base for further troubleshooting information.
    I understand what this message means but i cant find which applications are causing the problem.
    (actually i think I do but I still get the error messages after deleting them..)
    It seems it's trying to write NULL-values twice every 5 minutes, but from "where"? What is telling it to update the row with a NULL value?

    Here are part of the statesys.log - It's not very helpful ;)

  • Schedule a SQL Integration Import Script

    Hey Everyone! I need some help from the FDM community.
    I am currently using FDM 11.1.2.1 and using the Hyperion Essbase adapter to load data to a Planning/Essbase application. I have successfully created a SQL integration import script that connects directly to Oracle EBS, and have manually tested the process up-to-check of the workflow. However, I would like to schedule this process on a nightly basis. I am aware of the batch processing task scheduler and have used it previously, but I am obviously not dumping flat files into the OpenBatch directory nor am I using the Custom General script usually associated with Batch Processing. So, is there a Custom General script that I can use to call on the import integration script so I can schedule such a process?
    Please let me know, and thank you for your time!
    Sincerely,
    Craig

    You can do this with the batch. You just create a blank text file with the proper naming convention for the POV you are going to kick off the integration script for and place it in Open batch. The batch will then execute the integration script for the POV when executed.

  • FDM - Building Integration Import Scripts

    Hi All,
    I am trying to write an Integration Script to load SQL Server data into FDM 9.3.1. The script initialises a recordset object for the worktable that the source SQL Server data is loaded into.
    The statement at which my script fails is:
    Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTable(strWorkTableName)*
    I have followed the sample script documented in the FDM Admin Guide.
    Does anyone have ideas as to why the script fails at this statement?
    Thanks,

    Hi everyone,
    I was wondering if sending the sample code would help get a clearer picture....
    Function CTIDB2Test(strLoc, lngCatKey, dblPerKey, strWorkTableName)
    'Hyperion FDM Integration Import Script:
    'Created By:     admin
    'Date Created:     2/19/2009 1:16:59 PM
    'Purpose: This import integration script connects to the CentroODS database
    ' and imports Actuals data from the generalLedgerMasterFile and glMasterAccount table into FDM
    Dim cnSS 'ADO Connection object
    Dim strSQL ' SQL String
    Dim rs ' Source System recordset
    Dim rsAppend ' FDM recordset
    Dim sPOVString
    Dim sPOVPeriod
    Dim sDataCol
    ' Initialise the ADO objects
    Set cnSS = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    Set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet")
    Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTableAppend(strWorkTableName)
    The script fails at the statement:
    Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTableAppend(strWorkTableName)
    Thanks

  • FDM - Integration IMPORT script failed

    Hi,
    We are on 11.1.2.1.
    I am trying to create a import integration script which i took from the FDM admin guide...and i am trying to pull data from Oracle table...
    But i am getting error as "Data access error" and its in the below line when i try to execute the code form the workbench...but when i use the import button in the web its importing....*i beleive its somethign related to the STRWORKTABLENAME and somewhere i read that i need to declare the function FARSTABLE*...but i dont know how as i am pretty novice to that....can you please help me....
    Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTable(strWorkTableName)
    also when i checked the error log i saw

    Per my answer on Network 54 you cannot test the script interactively in FDQM workbench. You must execute the integration script as part of the normal data load process.
    Per the FDM Admin guide: "Integration scripts can be run only by selecting Script from the File Type column of the Import Group grid (top grid) of the Import Formats screen".
    As I mentioned in my Network 54 post you can test the pure vbscript portions (without the FDQM specifics) to confirm that is working properly then add it to the integration script which will only run as part of a normal file import process.

    ######################END SCRIPT##################################
    I have 2 questions for help in regards to the above script:
    1)  For the Login and Service Account portion I can't get my output to show up properly.  Here is the snip from the script:
    #Login & Service Account Information#SQL Host Information
    $smo = new-object ('Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server') $computername
    $fragments += "<h3>Login & Service Account Information</h3>"
    $fragments += $smo | select ServiceAccount, Logins | ConvertTo-HTML -Fragment
    Here is how the output shows for this portion:
    ServiceAccount
    Logins
    domain\svcAcct
                 Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.LoginCollection
    I would like top have the login information show in the above table of the all the different logins.  When I run the script without HTML for that portion and just output to console it shows the login info as I would expect.
    2)  The 2nd question is, how do I add a variable to the bottom of the script to email the report to said email address.  This is probably simple but can't get my head wrapped around this part.
    Thanks all in advance!

    Thanks AnnaWY, that resolved the portion on how to email the report.  I was also able to utilize the following code which does the same thing as well:
    #Send an email with the contents of the report
    $MailBody= Get-Content $path
    $MailSubject= "SQL Server Report"
    $SmtpClient = New-Object system.net.mail.smtpClient
    $SmtpClient.host = "smtp.server.com"
    $MailMessage = New-Object system.net.mail.mailmessage
    $MailMessage.from = "[email protected]"
    $MailMessage.To.add("[email protected]")
    $MailMessage.Subject = $MailSubject
    $MailMessage.IsBodyHtml = 1
    $MailMessage.Body = $MailBody
    $SmtpClient.Send($MailMessage)
    I still have not been able to resolve the portion regarding the login/service account information not showing up in the table correctly.  For the time being I have removed it from the environment report and instead included it as a script of its own
    in our Security Auditing process.

  • SQL - import from excel

    Hi,
      I'm trying to write a query to import from an excel file. I can use the wizard but am looking to eventually create a procedure.
    pseudo: select * from (C:\Documents and Settings\JL04638\Desktop\report.xlsx)
    Thanks!
    J

    Not really a SQL Developer issue. You'll get more feedback in the SQL and PL/SQL forum.
    There are a number of things to bear in mind.
    the client's local hard disk is not accessible to the database. You will need to get the file on to the database server or even into the database itself.
    Oracle won't be able to read the excel file format without additional libraries - there are java libraries which can read excel, but plain text (csv, or tab delimited will be easier)
    You need to investigate things like external files, XMLDB, Application Express.

  • FDM Account Import Script

    Dear All,
    I am trying to write a script in account expression. This exp would pick account code which starts with digit "4", if yes then custom 1 dimension is [None].
    Function AccImport(strField, strRecord)
    if left(varvalue(13),1) ="4" Then
    varvalue(20)=[None]
    End If
    End Function
    This is the sample script i have written within data pump function
    Can any body please help me in writting what should be the right script to this working.
    Prince

    In your import format on the Custom1 dimension add an import script to the Expression column.
    Your source record strRecord has the Account value in it you just need to parse it out using DW.Utilities.fParseString. Then check if it starts with a "4" and if so have the script return "None" or else return the value in strField i.e. your original Custom1 source value.
    There are plenty of examples of these techniques in the FDM Admin guide in the scripting section. Have a go at writing it yourself it will be much more useful in the long run than me writing the script here.

  • Trying to write a Listener on a CheckBox to change the Model of a ComboBox

    I am trying to change the list that appears in a ComboBox dynamically based on if a CheckBox is selected or not. I have multiple CheckBoxes and ComboBoxes being created in a loop based on a variable assigned at creation. Every tutorial i have seen writes out a listener that explicitly defines the checkbox instance but in my case i don't acctually know. My checkboxes are in an array of checkboxes as are the comboboxes as they are being created at runtime. Any help would be much apreciated this issue has been with me for two days now.

    here is a snippit of my code in how i was implementing this:

    //Item Action Listener starts here this is where i am having the problem
    public void itemStateChanged(ItemEvent e) {
         Object source = e.getItem();
         if (source == PlayerByeCheck[1])
         int select = e.getStateChange();
              if (select == ItemEvent.SELECTED)
              PlayerOnBye[1] = true;
    PlayerRosterPanel.repaint();
    //repaint the window i think can't get the listener to work to see if this is the right way to do this
    //i doubt it is
    I have tried several different ways to write the listener, the example in the code above is following the java swing tutorial by explicitly defining the checkbox. I have tried to write the listener as i am creating the checkbox, which doesn't seem to work or i am wrting it wrong, which is entirely possible. Once the listener sets the value i think it should repaint the screen but i am sure that that is wrong right now as well. As my hunch is the repaint will reset the checkbox to DESELCTED the default value. I will come to that issue once i figure out how to get the listener working. Ideally i want to be able to set the listener for the checkboxes regardless as to how many there are. As stated above i am generating a list of checkboxes, comboboxes and other fields based on a variable that is defined in one of my objects. If the user selects checkbox 3 than combobox 3 should be changed, and the others should not. if the user selects all the checkboxes than all the comboboxes change.
    thanks for any help. Still plugging along on it trying to figure this one out.
