TS Failing - OSDSetupWindows - answerFilePath empty? Error 80004005

Hi there,
Stumped on this for a couple of days now so here it goes : new here and somewhat "new" to SCCM (only about 4 months of experience with task sequencing + about a year with the operational side & admin)
That being said : I'm currently trying to get an already existing TS (new client) working. But it fails during the "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager" step. As far as I understood it (reading through tons of articles), the OSDSetupWindows.exe
will be launched (it does according to the log) and the PC should reboot (continuing with the unattend.xml) which has been created during the previous TS steps?
I will copy/paste the log after this (firm name/server has been modified for security purposes) but I see this :
this->answerFilePath.empty() == false, HRESULT=80004005
This is also the errorcode that appears as the resulting code when the sequence fails. Is this the initial cause? If so : where is this answerFilePath set? It should be a read-only variable if I'm again not mistaken?
thanks a lot for any and all help!
/dimi

Just had a look in the Apply Operating System step :
1. the option "apply operating system from a captured image" is checked , the Image package is "Windows 8.1 Enterprise en-US", the Image is "1 - Windows 8.1 Enterprise"
2. The "use an unattended or sysprep answer file for a custom installation" is NOT checked...
So... Getting closer to a solution? I've already F8'd the PE boot and saw that the unattend.txt does exist under c:\windows\panther\unattend\unattend.xml - also filled in with our values which we specified in the "apply windows settings" +
"apply network settings" (both following right after a "BCDBoot Fix" step I created for this UEFI device [command : bcdboot c:\windows /s c: /f UEFI /l en-us].
My questions :
the package option : what should I specify as this?
the file name option : can I just use that "c:\windows\panther\unattend\unattend.xml" ?

  • BDD 2007 -- ZTI -- OSD error "The Operating System Installation Failed Unspecified Error (80004005)

    Hi there
    Wonder if anyone can advise me on a BDD 2007 OS deployment issue? (Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I couldn't see a forum for BDD 2007.)
    First of all, this BDD 2007 server and the OSD config was not done by me. For info, it is part of a SMS 2003 infrastructure.
    I am trying to get the XP Pro build process working. I am led to believe the config has been completed.
    Unfortunately, after booting the pc from the nic, I get an error. This is the order:
    - the 'Initializing Windows PE' splash appears for perhaps 15 seconds
    - very briefly, the text changes to 'Initializing Network'
    - for a second or two only 'Initializing Windows PE' appears again
    - then this error message appears:
    "SMS Operating System Deployment - The Operating System Installation failed. Please contact your system administrator for assistance. Unspecified Error (80004005)"
    I've spent some time looking into this error (80004005) and from what I can gather it possibly means 'access denied'.
    I'm assuming after Windows PE loads the first Task Sequence begins, and if this possibly is where the issue lies?
    One thing I cannot understand - the first Task Sequence (Initialization) has this command line (as do most, with different .wsf file):
    cscript.exe "%SCRIPTROOT%\ZTIGather.wsf" /localonly
    However, I cannot access %SCRIPTROOT% at all, Windows says it can't find it. I can run other variables such as %USERPROFILE%, %SYSTEMROOT%, etc, but cannot open %SCRIPTROOT%.
    Is it simply the case that I should create a new system variable (that has not been created by whoever built the server)?
    Thanks
    John Henry

    Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • Failed to install Windows 7 SP1 (Error 80004005‎)

    Dear all,
    Would someone please help me on this issue? It almost drived me mad after tried several times to install the SP1. I've googled the error 80004005‎, someone suggested to try a in-place upgrade. But it's hard to do that for my current situation.
    That may be the last resort if no solution else.
    Installation logs (CBS logs/Inf logs/Winsxs logs):
    Current PC OS version:
    Windows 7 Professional / 64 bit.
    I've tried following approaches, but didn't work
    1). Increase the MaxNumFilters (8 to 14)
    2). run sfc.exe /scannow
    It looks like some *.dll files corrupted.
    The CBS log generated as below:
    Any comments are highly appreciated. Thank you !!

    Hi Wade
    Thanks for the reply. The error code was always 0x80004005. The upgrade was fell back when configuring service pack with 99% percentage completed after reboot. [Sorry My OS is traditional Chinese version]
    I tried to run command  sfc.exe /scannow again today. Result indicated that some of *.dll files were corrupted. So i attached some of the log here FYI please. For details, please download

    try this...
    This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
    I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
    I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
    I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.

  • "JCA Binding execute of Reference operation 'Write' failed due to: Translation Error.

    Hi, i am trying to read a comma delimited file using an inbound file adapter, i have used a mediator to route records to the outbound file adapter.My input.txt file contains 10 records as Fname,Lname.I have used native format builder to generate xsd. To achieve transformation,in the mediator i have mapped only the Fname from source to traget using a for-each loop.I am trying to publish records in the batches of 2 so i have configured inbound file adapter accordingly.My inbound file adapter reads the first two records and the same is visible at the em console mediator instance(payload), i am even able to see the first two records being transformed in the transformed payload in the mediator instance detail but at the outbound file adapter i get an error saying :

The invoked JCA adapter raised a resource exception. Please examine the above error message carefully to determine a resolution.

    Regards,
    Saif

    Hi Saif,  Are you using the same xsd for the outbound (write) file adapter as well? In that case, you may need to map both the names (Fname and Lname) but leave the name which you do not want to be written to the file as an empty text. For example, if you would need to map only the Lname, but not the Fname, the xsl will be like,
    <xsl:template match="/">
        <imp1:Root-Element>
          <xsl:for-each select="/imp1:Root-Element/imp1:Employee">
            <imp1:Employee>
              <imp1:Fname>
              <xsl:text disable-output-escaping="no"></xsl:text>
              </imp1:Fname>
              <imp1:Lname>
                <xsl:value-of select="imp1:Lname"/>
              </imp1:Lname>
            </imp1:Employee>
          </xsl:for-each>
        </imp1:Root-Element>
      </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    Another option is to have a separate xsd with only one element (Fname or Lname) for the outbound file adapter, in which case you would need to map only one field.

  • OS Deployment - Failed to get client identity 80004005

    Hello all,
    Hopefully someone will have a solution to this issue. I've only found one site with a similar problem (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2352753&SiteID=17) and the solution was to rebuild the SCCM server, which I have done. Yet the issue persists. After working my way through countless issues with SCCM, this seems to be the only obstacle in my way. Here is the situation:
    1. I boot the bare metal client system to PXE and the boot image loads
    2. The SCCM status messages appear "Windows is starting up..." and then "Preparing Network Connections..."
    3. The client machine hangs for a minute or so, then reboots.
    I have enabled the command prompt shell in the boot image and can ping the SCCM server and name resolution work fine, so I know it isn't an issue with the network drivers. Below is the log information from the client. Just as an FYI, the Server is running in "Mixed Mode", so I'm not really understanding the why the identification is an issue. As best I can understand the client is requesting information from the server at a certain point and getting a blank reply.

    I'm at my wits end with this software, if I can't find a solution to this problem pretty soon, I will tell management here to can the whole idea and stick with the norton ghost setup.

    i had this problem today on a virtual lab ive got setup here (windows 2008 server, with sccm 2007sp1 deploying windows server..)
    i had to rewrite my task sequence as it was giving me problems - (configuring ADDS) and after going through all the steps I tried yet another pxe boot and it failed, this time with the pxe error Failed to get client identity 80004005 in the SMSTSlog
    I checked this log against a know good one from earlier on the same server and indeed the time/date are processed shortly after words, however i pxe booted again and verified time/date on the virtual pc and they were absolutely correct
    I tried this and that for 2 hours with no positive result, lastly i rebooted the server and lo and behold the pxe error was gone.
    I agree that we need a decent troubleshooting option from Microsoft about this as the documentation appears to be whatever is here or on other forums and in a lot of cases there are no solutions
    does changing a task sequence somehow reprogram the PXE setup for WDS/sccm ? I have another server (real) beside me that now wont process PXE boot requests anymore even though it was working fine !
    PXE-E51: no DHCP or proxyDHCP offeres were received....
    no switch just a crossover network cable between server and client, client was  successfully deployed hours before with windows server 2008 via sccm via pxe boot.....
    tried all the usual, not much hair left now....
    found this site http://susanaguedes.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!830A1768E1B27E94!350.entry
    PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received
    The PC cannot contact the DHCP server. Possible causes (see ref [19]):
    There is a problem with the DHCP server
    The network card or PXE boot portion of the network card is faulty
    The network cable is faulty
    tested the client PXE boot to another server, worked fine using same network card and cable
    the DHCP server on the server reports no problems and has worked fine since I set it up some months ago, indeed if i boot the client into windows server it will get an ip no problem from the dhcp server
    so what is wrong here ? how can WDS/ SCCM pxe boot functionality turn itself on or off at will with no user intervention ???
    restarted the server 3 times, no difference, restarted WDS many times, no difference, restarted DHCP server service and now I get
    PXE-E55: proxyDHCP service did not reply to the request on port 4011
    As slightly less common one, with various causes (see ref [19]). Usually the PC has successfully contacted the DHCP server and the PC will even report its DHCP assigned IP address along with the error, but the RIS process could not continue for some reason.
    restarted the WDS service and it booted in Windows PE via pxe finally after hours of repetive tasks, only to bring me back to square one with the Windows PE rebooting itself immediatly after loading network support,
    ok, back to troubleshooting....

  • "Signing failed, please try again" error

    I've got a perplexing and frustrating problem. My app is already to go, I've downloaded the .ipa file and tested it. It works fine on the iPad. But, when it came time to create the distribution app (.zip) file, I keep getting a "signing failed, please try again" error.
    I've tried but failed the following:
    -I've checked my p12 certificates. They were valid. I even recreated them twice, each time it did not work.
    -I've rebuilt my folio twice. I even tried deleting all but one article then trying to export the distribution app
    -I've renamed the article names to just alphabets and numbers, no special characters
    Yet despite all of my efforts I keep getting this error. What am I missing?
    Thanks!
    Pai

    No. We're going to need to get log files from you to determine what is going wrong. To get log files you need to create an empty text file. on your machine. You can create the file using TextEdit, just open TextEdit, make a new document, go to the Format menu and select "Make Plain Text" and save it to /Users/username/AppBuilderLoggingEnabled.cfg.
    Then run App Builder again to get the error. After you get the error look in /Users/username/ for a file called appbuilder.log and send it to me at [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Neil

  • TestStand 2013 error 80004005

    For some reason whenever I try to run the Sequence Editor I get a "System Level Exception" followed by " Creating an instance of the COM component witch CLSID {B2794EF6-C0B6-11d)-939C-0020AF68E893} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 80004005"
    I have followed the published fixes including deleteing stationglobals.ini, running "Version Selector" etc to almost  no avail. The exception is that after a PC re-boot it will run but quite slowly; closing the Sequence Editor and re-starting it brings back error 80004005.
    I have also tried un-installing and re-installing TestStand as well as complete re-installtion of DS 2014.
    Short of re-formatting my hard-drive and starting again I'm not sure what else I can do.
    Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1) Do you have any idea what might have changed around the time it used to work versus when it stopped working? Any new software installed? Some utility programs like graphics card utilities and virus scanners hook into all processes on a machine with Windows hooks and can sometimes cause unexpected problems. If you have anything like that installed recently, try disabling or uninstalling them and see if the problem goes away.
    2) Do you have visual studio installed on your machine? What is likely happening is that an exception (really an access violation most likely) is being thrown inside the constructor of the engine when this problem occurs. If you can run seqedit.exe as the process to debug (with native debugging) with the Debug->Exceptions... dialog set to stop on thrown for "Native Run-Time Checks" and "Win32 Exceptions". And then when the exception occurs, break in the debugger, and do Debug->Save Dump As... to save a dump of the state of the process. Then attach the dump file here and we can take a look to see if it gives us any clues as to what might be the problem.

    Lenovo Thinkpad W500, Intel (R), Windows 7, SP1, latest updates as of Oct 15
    (1) Checked Setting,  set to automatic update whenever, even changed to never update, rebooted the OS and changed back to automatic update and rebooted the OS.
    (2) Stopped Windows Update Services, renamed SoftwareDistribution folder and started the window update services and rebooted.
    (3) Ran MS FIXIT
    (4) Ran System File checker Scan (sfc /scannow)
    (5) Ran CHKDSK /F
    (6) Installed "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers from Lenovo site
    (7) Ran Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033)
    None of the above possible recommended solutions were able to fix the issue yet and now I am getting a message your Window is Not Genuine!
    Any help or guidance is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The Lenovo System Update installed the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver 8.9.2.1002" right before the Windows Upgrade got broken. So in the Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, I choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, on the Driver Tab, I choose the option "Roll Back Driver" and after rolling back the driver and restarting the OS, now Windows Update is working like a Champ!
    The End!

    Hello Eric,
    unfortunately it is not possible to do it, because I have only remote access to the SAP system.

    If yes --> which logs should I post here?

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-50)

    Hey Guys,
    Got the error message "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-50) in iTunes.
    I'm just trying to burn a few audio CDs.
    Running most current verison of Mavericks, all software up to date.
    I've tried changing the burning speeds from Maximum Possible, to 12x, 8x, 4x. Still get the error.
    I've tried 3 brands of CD-Rs get the error on all 3.
    Any suggestions?
    Thx
    CD

    Error -50 is a very unhelpful generic communications error with a number of possible causes.  Something between the drive to which you are downloading and the drive from which it is all coming is not working correctly, which probably leaves several hundred options.
    Have you tried simply restarting the computer?
