TS1363 my iTunes crashes when i plug my iPod in, and won't recognise it. My computer does, why not iTunes?!?!

...So I sort of said it all in the title.
My iTunes which is up to date freezes as soon as I plug my iPod in, I've had this problem on my last laptop
and now again on this new one, so its not my computer. Both computers recognise the device as an iPod but both iTunes freeze.
AND it started doing this on the day that the guy who invented apple died O____O
Anyway ANY AND ALL help would be a life saver, I'm sick of pretending I'm fine sitting on the bus listening to the hubbub of LND!

  • ITunes crashes when I plug in IPod?

Hello! I've never had this problem before. Whenever I plug in my ipod to my ibook, iTunes will crash (i.e. "unexpected application quit" msg pops). My ipod will look like it's charging along w/ the msg "Do Not Disconnect" but it no longer shows "Ipod is Updating". If I don't plug in my ipod, itunes will work and none of my music has been deleted. So as of now - my ipod actually shows no music in it at all (all my photos and files that I store are still in it though). Please tell me how to fix this problem. Thank you in advance.
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Try this:
Move the com.apple.iPod.plist file (in ~/Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences) to the desktop and attach your iPod.
iTunes will have to create a new iPod preferences file, which could solve the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes crashes when I connect my iPod to the PC when iTunes is running....

I have written about this problem before, but there have not been any successful solutions as of this date. I will explain my situation a little further and maybe someone can help.
Most of the time, when I connect my iPod to my pc while iTunes is running, the instance the iPod shows up on the library site, and whenever I move the cursor, iTunes crashes, so I have to close iTunes right away and try to disconnect my iPod. Most of the time, a message comes up that says info is being transferred to the ipod and that I shouldn't disconnet it at that time, but I usually go ahead because I know it isn't transferring at that time, since itunes has crashed.
Sometimes, after I have clicked on the first message to go ahead and disconnect my ipod, another messages comes up that says something to the effect of, "You can't disconnect because it is being used by another server at this time." So I click "OK" and then iTunes stays on for a few moments which gives me time to transfer a song or two, but then itunes crashes as soon as it finished transferring or before it finishes.
As anyone can imagine, this has really become a hugh problem. Having an iPod and not being able to use iTunes makes it very unhandy. I'm not able to add any new music or any of the playlists which i have been working on. Does anyone have a solution, or any suggestions as to what may be going on? It would be deeply appreciated.
I plan to restore my iPod in a day or two if I don't get a solution to this, but I don't have all of the music, videos, etc. that I have on the iPod since I removed much of it from iTunes to help the computer run faster. I had over 2000 items in the library, so it was pulling the pc down and it was taking forever to use the computer.
I am unable to use any of the software to transfer everything from my iPod to the iTunes library because of the problem with iTunes crashing when I connect the iPod, so this isn't a solution at this time.
    Someone, please help!
HP   Windows XP   Using DSL for internet access

I suspect a hardware problem.  But do the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Resore the iPid to factoery defaults/new iPod.
In the latter part of you post, I thin you ar sayng that you do not have a syning computer and the music is not on the computer. If so, do the following so you will not lose anthing (or very little) when you restore.
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and right click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Backup. This will make a backup so you can restore to the backup

  • ITunes crashes when I plug in my iPod 5.5G

I recently installed OS X 10.7.2, and iTunes 10.5. Now, whenever I plug my 80GB iPod 5.5G, iTunes will, "Quit Unexpectedly". If iTunes isn't open, and I plug my iPod in and then try to open iTunes, I get the same error message before iTunes loads. It seems to be an endless loop, and I can't sync any new music to my iPod.
    Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: I should add that I've tried restarting my Macbook Pro and my iPod multiple times

I have exactly the same problem with iTunes 10.5 and Snow Leopard.

    Hi deaconspeaking,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Try looking for the iPod below the Search field in iTunes. If it doesn't show up below search, the second article provides troubleshooting tips that should help you out.

  • ITunes crashes when I plug in 80GB iPod classic

My 80GB iPod classic had been working flawlessly with my MacBook Pro until yesterday afternoon, when I plugged it in to sync and iTunes crashed with this error:
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000014
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, deleting my iTunes library file, and using another computer to restore my iPod to the factory settings all with the same result. I can sync my Nano to this computer still, and I can sync my Classic to other computers. This particular computer/iPod combo has gone wonky on me. I've wracked my brain trying to come up with any system changes prior to the sudden failure and I can't think of any.
This is a work machine and I have FileVault turned on per company policy. I can't take the machine to a Genius Bar since it's not mine, and while IT looks the other way on the matter of personal music on the work machine, I can't ask them for support since it's not a business necessity. Any ideas on how to solve? Am I out of luck on getting a replacement iPod since it syncs with other machines?

    RevDoddy,
If iTunes is crashing, why don't you send a crash log to those lazy Apple engineers.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log" If there's already a file there, it most likely has multiple crash logs in it (new crash logs are just appended to the end of the file). So, delete this file. This will make sure you're not sending extra information I don't need. These crash logs are text files, so you can open them in notepad or whatever to see what information you're sending.
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. You need to send that file to our buddy Roy. Make sure that you include:
    (1) the drwtsn32.log file.
    (2) the link to this thread.
    (3) a one line description of your problem, i.e. "iTunes crashes on launch".
    (4) the username that you're using here in the discussion boards.
    (5) the link to this thread.
    (6) tell him Toonz sent ya.
Roy is getting a little swamped with messages and needs to make sure he gets all the information. And if he doesn't get all this information, the message is just going to get dropped on the floor.

  • ITunes keeps crashing when I plug my iPod classic in or open the store

I've had the following issues with iTunes for the past month or so (I think it has been 2 updates maybe?...):
1, iTunes crashes as soon as I try to open the iTunes store.
2, iTunes crashes as soon as I plug in my iPod classic.
I have rebuilt my iPod. I have scanned/checked the properties (from the Computer area where external devices are displayed). I have opened iTunes in safe mode. I have reinstalled the program following the order suggested on other threads.
I'm lost for any other ideas as to how I can sort this. Is there a fix, or am I going to be looking at a more expensive solution?
I really don't want to risk anything when it comes to my iPad or iPhone so I don't know if it's iTunes or my iPod unfortunately.

I don't want to be the bringer of bad news, but these where the symptoms I was getting just before my iPod's hard drive failed (80gb classic).
I tried to restore it, and that seemed to work for a few days. But then it just stopped responding to iTunes, locking up iTunes, and finally wiped its own memory then nothing.
It powered up ok, but did noting else.
It was years out of warranty, getting it repaired by Apple is never cost effective. so I sold it on eBay and upgraded to a new 160gb.
I'm not giving you a definite reason, just my experience.

  • Itunes 8.1 crash when I plug my ipod

Since the update, everytime i plug my ipod nano 4th generation. Itunes crashes

    Nutnbolt:
We need to get a crash log file to see where it's crashing. In order to get a crash log on Vista, you will need to enable crash logging.
Important: These steps involve making changes to the Windows registry using the Registry Editor (Regedit). Even if you are very comfortable editing the registry, you should make a backup of the registry prior to editing it. Making mistakes in Regedit can cause strange behavior and can even prevent Windows from starting. Look here for instructions on how to back up your registry in Windows Vista:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
    1. Open the Windows Start menu.
    2. Type regedit in the search field and click OK.
    3. In Registry Editor, navigate to HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Apple Computer, Inc.\iTunes
    4. Right-click on the iTunes folder and choose New > DWORD Value.
    5. Name the new value "GenerateCrashLogs" without the quotation marks and press Enter.
    6. Right-click GenerateCrashLogs and choose Modify.
    7. Change Value data from 0 to 1.
    8. Click OK.
Now, when iTunes crashes, a crash log file will be created. A message will appear telling you where to find the crash log file. Please email me that file, and make sure to include a link to this thread and the username you are using on Discussions.

I decided before I did any "real" troubleshooting I would do a clean uninstall of iTunes as listed in HT1923 then install the latest version of iTunes.

any help would be sincereely appreciated!!!!
    Thanks,
    Jim

    b noir:
Thank you for the quick reply.
I did have 15 or so podcasts on my iPhone (sync-ed through iTunes).
On reviewing them I noticed that one of the episodes had a Japanese Kanji charatcter at the end of the name "ah-ha" I say that must be the one!!!!
Well I deleted that one podcast from the iPhone but it made no difference.
I then deleted ALL of the podcasts from the iPhone but still, I get the same crash on iTunes.
I get the "recognition beeps" that Vista has noticed I plugged in the iPhone, but the iPhone never gets displayed as an item in the bar on the left side of the screen, and then iTunes crashes...
