Just got a new computer with Windows 8. Can't get Itunes to install. Checked with a clerk at Sam's Club who said it wouldn't install for her either.
What do I need to do. Sent an email to Apple; but just got a computer generated response with no helpful advice.

Do you get an error message when you try to install iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

This article should help. You didn't mention what format the files are in and what format the external hard drive is, however this article povides the basics. You're probably most interested in the last section titled 'Adding content on your computer to iTunes'.

  • Just got a new Macbook Air. How can I get quicktime to play wmv and other video formats?

I just purchased a new Macbook Air. I have loaded quicktime, but it doesn't play all formats such as wmv and others. What is the best way to accomplish this?

Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac and operating system, of:
    RealPlayer SP for Mac from:
    http://www.real.com/realplayer/mac
Flip4Mac WMV Player from  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm  (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFl ash
You can check here what version of Flash player you actually have installed:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

    Hello there, Wasabi Donut.
The following Knowledge Base article provides the steps on just how to authorize your computer:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
    Particularly:
To authorize a computer using your Apple ID
    Open iTunes
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • I just got a new pc running windows 7 and don't know how to transfer my itunes library from my old computer using windows xp

i just got a new pc running windows 7 and cannot get my i tunes library from my old windows xp i have an ipad, ipod nano .ipod touch ,will any of these do it? My library is one i downloaded from cds not purchased thanks'

Iv just got a macbook pro today, and I don't know how to transfer my itunes library from my imac..
the simplest way, assuming all your media files are in the default location, would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
My sister is having my old imac, so I also need to then clear the itunes on the imac for her.
just a create a new admin user account for her on the iMac.

  • Just got a new computer running windoews vista home premium.

Just got a new computer running windows vista home premium. I downloaded itunes with no problems, ran it, no problems. Then turned off my internet connection and computer. Next time I turned on my computer, I could not connect to the internet. There is no problem with the ISP or the computer (all have been checked). If I uninstall itunes, everything is back to normal, internet connection is fine. I have tried a few times to install itunes (which is easy to do), but my computer will not let me access the internet while itunes is installed on the computer. Any ideas as to why this happens and what I can do about it? Many thanks for any help anyone can give.

Look into the Security control panel for the firewall settings and the list of applications allowed to access the Internet. I think you can tap the Windows key and type "firewall" to be shown the panel immediately.
I just got a new computer with Vista Home Premium too. The first time I ran iTunes, Windows brought up a Windows Firewall warning asking me if I wanted to allow iTunes through. People tend to blow by these popups but they're very important. Often Windows will not ask again, and you have to go digging to get to the option later. Reinstalling the app won't necessarily help because Windows would think that the app you already blocked is just trying to get through again, so it blocks it again.
When I view the list of permitted apps for the Windows Firewall, I see many entries with "iTunes" in the name, each probably governing a separate network feature (sharing, purchasing, artwork, track lookup).

  • I just got a new computer.  I tried to transfer itunes files

I just got a new computer.  I tried to transfer all iTunes files and music to my new computer using a flash drive.   I tried to restore my iTunes Library on the new computer and have been unable to do so.  The files will not open.  The computer gives me an error that I do not have the necessary software to open the "itl" files.  It referred me to the web where there are multiple sites to choose from including the option to download the new iTunes version.  I tried to download the new version unsuccessfully & tried a couple of the "free sites" only to find out they weren't free after all.  Hoping someone out there can help me.   Thanks!  rhomey

  • Just got a new computer....

I just got a new computer and I am trying to install itunes on it. I have got the program on the computer without any problems. Now I am trying to add my iTunes library. I have it on an external hard drive so I was hoping this would be easy.
However, when I hold the shift key and start iTunes, it asks me to pick a library file. When I direct it to my library file on my external hard drive, I get the error message: "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission for this file".
I don't have any problems accessing anything else on my hard drive so I don't think that is the problem. Any suggestions?

  • I just got a new computer with Vista on it. When I hook m...

I just got a new computer with Vista on it. When I hook my WRT54G router to it, I am unable to send e-mails. They get stuck in my OUTBOX and I get a timeout error. I can receive e-mails but cannot send them. Also, my internet can drag at times when the router is connected. When I remove the router, everything works fine.
I've contacted Tech support several times and every suggestion they give doesn't solve the problem. I've updated firmware, changed all sorts of settings in the router setup page, including adjusting my Port Range Forward settings (at the instruction of tech support)
I'm wondering if it's just a Vista thing and I should buy a newer router. I don't know what else to do.
    Any suggestions?
    Patrick

Well if you can send emails, when you connect computer to modem directly, then it might be ports forwarding issue. Update firmware of router to latest version and assign a static ip on computer like 192.168.1.11, and obtain ports used by outgoing mail server, and forward those ports to static IP assigned, on router's setup.

  • HT1473 I just got a new computer and loaded Itunes. All my music is on my new Apple Ipod but I do not know how to sync it from the Ipad TO ITUNES so I can put all my playlists back on the computer for home sharing. Can anyone help with the answer? Thanks!

How do you Sync Playlists (Music) from my ipod Nano TO ITUNES? I know how to sync it the other way, from the computer (Itunes) to the ipad, but I just got a new computer and all the music is only on my Ipod Nano. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks! Pete B

  • I just got a new computer.  When I connect my IPod to ITunes, it says I need to transfer my files to I Tunes from my IPod.  How do I do this?

I just got a new computer with Windows 7.  I installed ITunes, and when I connect my IPod Touch 3rd generation, it says I need to transfer my files to ITunes before I sent or all data will be erased from my IPod.  Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me how.  Please help.

    This will transfere iTunes purchases:

After you get the stuff in your iTunes' library let iTunes erase your iPod and replace it contents with what is now in your iTunes' library.

  • Just got a new computer, and I want my songs off my iPod and onto my iTunes

So, I just got my new computer, and I have about 400 songs on my new iTunes. However, on my iPod, I have around 3,000. Some of the songs, however, I no longer have the cds for. I really don't feel like buying or tracking down ALL of those songs again. Is there a way I can get the songs off my iPod and onto my new iTunes? And no, I'm not trying to give all these songs to my friends or anything, I'm just trying to keep them all! If I could get an answer soon, that would be great!!!!
    Thanks!

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
