    Hey Stan1958,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with your iPod nano and iTunes. Based on your symptoms, you may find the following resources helpful in resolving this issue:
    Windows
iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
iTunes reports that "iTunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time"
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • After updating ios my ipad is stuck in recovery mode and is not being recognised by the computer in windows or itunes.  Help!

Help - I am stuck in Afghanistan on operations and my iPad mini has died.
I tried to update the IOS as directed, there were a few error messages and I cancelled the process.
The ipad now only shows the connect to itunes screen and is not being recognised by the computer in either windows or itunes.
I have tried several resets and restarted the computer and reinstalled itunes.
Is there anything else I can do.
This is my only method of talking back to my family at the moment and is really quite important.

Thanks, I will give it a go. Will it work on my computer after I do that?

  • My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

Most common culprits include the cable. Try swapping it out for a different one.. or not having the most recent version of itunes. I once even solved this problem by shutting down the computer for 2 minutes. (the longer the better), with the ipad plugged in. starting it up... then itunes recognizes it, launches, and syncs.
Apple has a troubleshooting assistant on this topic:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
It will advise you to reboot. I recommend shutting down instead.

P.S The ipad should charge when asleep and plugged into your Mac. The charging behavior is normal. There isn't enough power out the USB ports to charge the ipad while it is on on some older Macs and nearly all PCs.

  • Iphone 4 not being recognized with the extension cable

My Iphone 4 is not being recognized with the Apple extension cable in my new Nissan Juke so the phone has to be kept in the glovebox due to the very short cable Nissan provides. This is frustrating since the phone gets noticeably worse reception in the glovebox. Does anyone know of a fix for this so I can run a longer cable extension and run the phone out of the glovebox? Mabye a different extension cable or longer cable that works with Nissan's set up?

I don't think it is the cable. I have tried plugging the cable into the USB cable that came with the phone and the extension cable works fine with it. I guess this really is just some screwy stuff with Nissan.

  • My iPhone is not being recognized under "My Computer"

When I first got my iPhone, I had a Dell. So I synced my phone to that computer. I just got a new iMac, and have switched everything over. My iPod shows up under "My Computer," but my iPhone doesn't. And I first synced my iPod to the Dell. I've been able to sync my phone and my iPod in iTunes and transfer pictures from my phone to my computer with relative ease. I've restarted and reset my phone, but it still does not show up under "My Computer." Do I need to contact Apple Support or is there something else I can do? Or is this really not something to be concerned with?

Hey I need some help please. I just downloaded iTunes 8 and signed up for MobileMe. After doing this I was trying to sync my iPhone in iTunes so I could get the MobileMe app on my phone. However, now my phone isn't being recognized in iTunes. I've tried all the suggestions on the support page except reinstalling iTunes because I'm concerned about losing my music files. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Iphone 4 not charging and not being recognized by the computer

I've had my iphone 4 for a little more than a year now and it wont charge or get recognized by the computer. I've seen things about battery and I wanted to see if there was anything else I could try before taking it to an Apple store

    Clean the dock connector.
    Reset or restart the device.
Try a different USB port on the computer.
Is it even recognized in Windows?
Does it charge when connected to a wall outlet?

  • 3gs not being recognized by the computer

I am having issues with my 3gs.  My computer won't recognize my 3gs

The key bit of information here is that one iPhone works on the computer in question and another does not. So it is unlikely that AMDS is not running or there is a driver problem; if either of these was the problem neither phone would be recognized in iTunes.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer either. Except to verify that both iPhones (the one that works and the one that doesn't) use the same cable and the same USB port.
Also, are the two iPhones the same model and same iOS version?

  • TS3850 I am using a Sony HBR -VLU camera to import into Final Cut 10. Plugging into an I MAc that doesn't have a firewire port. The camera is not being recognized by the computer. The camera is set to play tape too. Why is camera not recognized?

I am trying to import from the camera into an I-MAC. I'm told the I-mac does not have the firewire port, but has thunderbolt. Is the only way to get video from the camera via a firewire port? Is someone giving me bad information as to the firewire port not being on the I-MAC? The camera is not being recognized. Thanks in advance.

Apple has moved on from Firewire and the current iMacs (and most MBPs) have Thunderbolt, USB3 and USB2.
There are Firewire toThunderbolt adaptors. Here's one. You also want a four pin to nine pin FW cable to run from your camera to the adaptor.

  • Has anyone gotten a solution to the issue of the shuffle not being recognized by the computer?

I have an old shuffle and can't get it to show up on my computer. It also won't sync new music that I've bought without going through ridiculous actions (removing iTunes and re-installing).  Anyone have a solution?

If "iTunes pops up and shows me what I have on the shuffle," how can it NOT "show up in devices on iTunes."  You have to select the shuffle under DEVICES (in iTunes) to see what is on the shuffle.  It seems like the two things you said are mutually exclusive.
Also, earlier you said you can't get the shuffle to show up on the computer, but if iTunes pops up when you plug in the shuffle, it seems to be showing up.
I guess your description is not clear to me...

  • My second Generation ipod touch is not being recognized by the computer and is not charging.

I plug it in but it wont charge and windows says the device has malfunctioned. help please.

Try the following and then try a restore:
    - A reset.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Placing the iPod in recovery mode.  See:

  • My memory sticks are not being recognized by the computer...

I just installed 4 1gb sticks of memory in pairs and all of the same maker. I already had 2.5gb of memory installed. Once I turned on my computer and clicked the apple, it is showing that I only have the 2 gb of memory installed! Why is it not showing the other 4 gigs? It is saying those slots are empty and all 8 slots are occupied. I have a total of 6gbs but am only showing 2gb. I restarted my computer twice and keep getting the same result. All memory sticks are seated firmly in the slots as well.
    Any suggestions?
I bought the memory sticks from a reliable vendor that sells Mac products.

I don't have the slightest idea of what you are talking about LOL! How do I do cold boot? How do I reset the nvram?
Another thing I noticed that was odd is that I took all memory out of the computer and installed just the 1gb sticks totaling 4gbs. Once I turned on the computer, my desktop screen would not show up on my screen. I got a solid blue screen instead. Once I removed all those sticks and replaced with the sticks previously installed my desktop screen returned! The new memory sticks are brand spanking new. Perhaps I could have had them installed incorrectly as I had them all in the same bank. I Will experiment again tomorrow.
