The folder is ITunes folder

like i said i know nothing about all of this and even getting this far is good for what i can do on all these devices!....i didnt even know the thread was 6 months old...i only got this far cause the "apple" guy i talked to directed me to here...this is what it says when he clicks on the itunes thing on the bottom...the folder 'itunes' is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder...i thought i already wrote that somewhere on here...i have no clue!!...maybe ill just bring it into someone that knows what to do!

  • How do I allow users to create folders in a shared folder where we all then have read/write access to those new folders?

I have three users who need to access a particular folder on one of our other Macs. The folder resides on the desktop of that particular Mac and it is set as "shared" with all of our accounts set to access the folder. When a user creates a new subfolder in that shared folder, the permissions are instantly set to allow the creator read/write access but the other users are only allowed read-only access. Is there a way to set the permissions so that any new folder created in that shared folder automatically gives read/write access to all accounts who are authorized access to that shared folder?

You should be able to take the permissions you have set and "apply to enclosed items." I am trying to attach a picture of what this looks like so my apologies if it does not work.
Highlight your folder you want and go to File>Get Info or command+I and at the bottom where it has Sharing and Permissions, click the lock button to authenticate. Click the gear and click "apply to enclosed items". See if that works.

  • Why do I get an error message 'write access not granted' when I try to copy paste jpegs from my folder on desktop to an external hard drive/(Transcend)pendrive

This is a new problem. I transferred some images from my Nikon camera via image capture but converted my raw files to jpegs in the Nikon View nx 2 software and saved them in a new folder on my desktop. I use a 2010 MBP that has OS10.9.5 fully updated. When i tried copying and pasting the jpegs to an external pen drive I got an error message saying the jpg (the number) could not be saved as write access is not granted. I thought the pen drive may be full. So I attached an external hard drive.  got the same message. I then opened the same jpeg in photoshop cc and tried saving it as png on the hard drive, got the same message. Was unable to handover the photographs to my client. Was hugely embarrassed. Pl let me know if there is a way out of this and if its a Mac OSX issue? Thanks.

right click on the jpeg (the other mouse button then you use to click with) or on trackpad, hold down control and click, in the menu that pops up, click on "get info" next, if the box labeled "locked" is checked, uncheck it. Down at the bottom, there should be a box with your user name, "staff" and "everyone". to the right of this are options to change these you may need to click the small padlock icon and enter in your password. then change all of the permissions to read and write.

Hello. I am running the newest version of itunes on my PC. everytime I try to copy a cd to itunes it gives me an error message that says I do not have write access for my itunes media folder or a folder within it. I cannot get this resolved using the solution given on the error message. I have been using itunes for 4 years and have never encountered this problem until yesterday. Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Quit iTunes.
    Go to My Music folder.
Select the iTunes folder, right click > Properties.
Click the Security tab and make sure you have full Read/Write privileges.

Thanks C F McBlob but I recursively changed the permissions of my Music directory meaning every file and directory beneath it, as well as the directory itself, had the write permissions added.
    I used "chmod -R u+w ./Music" and chmod -R g+w ./Music" to do it.
    Alas, no cigar. :-(

    Repair iTunes Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.
If you've brought over the library from another computer you may also want to remove any "mystery" identities (S<string of dashes & digts>) that have come over from the old computer...
The images above are from Windows 7. Hopefully the system isn't too different in Windows 8.

  • Approval work flow should work when the KM folder has Write access

    Dear all,
    I have a following scenario.
There are set of KM folders and the users can upload documents in those folders ( users has read/write permission) and for those folders i have a approval process as well but when i give read and write access for those set of folders the approval process is not working they can see the documents because the users have read/write permission.
How can i overcome this i need to give read/write permission for folder and i want the approval process to work as well.
    Please help.
    Regards
    Aflal

    Hi, Aflal!
We have overcomed this problem by using custom developed Repository Filters:
One filter shows only documents created by user, no matter approved and not (for those users who are able to upload documents).
Another filter shows only approved documents (for all users).
The third filter shows only submitted for approval documents (for Approvers).
Than we created 3 Layout Sets with these filters applied to (in Collection Renderers) and 3 KM Navigation iViews that use 3 mentioned before Layout Sets.

  • "You don't have write access for your iTunes Media folder..."

My daughter is trying to import CD's into her library. Some work fine but most won't load and she gets a message stating "You don't have write access for your iTunes Media folder or a folder within it. To change permissions, select your iTunes Media folder in the Finder, and choose File>Get Info."
Following those directions the iTunes Info window appears and at the bottom her user name appears with the privilege as Read and Write. Clicking on the little gear icon below we select Apply to Enclosed Items. A message pops up stating "Are you sure you want to apply the selected owner, group and permissions to all the enclosed items?" Clicking ok a status bar pops up showing "Applying permissions to iTunes".
No changes occur in the issue we're having. This only occurs on her user.

If you have problems importing CDs with iTunes because of write access errors, you can do the following to reset the permissions to the Music folder for your user/s where the iTunes subfolders are typically located:
    Open Finder
    Macintosh HD
    Users
Open the folder for your User
    Music
    Right click > Get Info
Bottom right hand side, unlock the padlock, entering your user's password
Under Sharing & Permissions, ensure all relevant users have Read & Write, including Staff
Then, click on the main user (you), then go to lower left hand side, click on the settings cog, and press Apply to enclosed items.

  • No write access for iTunes media folder

Every time I try to download updates to iPod Touch applications or purchase music, I get the message "iTunes couldn't download your purchase. You don't have write access for your iTunes media folder or a folder within it." This was working prior to approximately December 20, 2010. I have searched for answers and every single thing I've tried has failed.
I have made sure that my user owns all the files in the iTunes media folder and has write permissions. In fact, I have ensured the user has write permissions for all directories both above and below this directory.
    I have removed C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277 .
I have moved my iTunes folder to a new one (off the root directory, e.g. C:\foo) as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364 .
I have even created a new user account, which also has the issue.
I am running iTunes 10.1.1 on Windows 7 on a 64-bit AMD Sempron laptop. I have made no significant software changes prior to this problem appearing, though regular Windows and iTunes updates are routinely applied. The device I'm attempting to use is a second generation iPod Touch, but that doesn't really matter - it doesn't need to be connected for the issue to occur.
I apologize for being quite the Windows luser. This is my partner's computer - I'm a Unix and Mac guy.
    Thanks in advance!

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.

  • TS1368 do not have write access to itunes folder

When trying to buy a song from the itunes store, I receive the message "You don't have write access to your itunes Media folder or a folder within it. Change permissions (in Explorer) and then choose Store > check for aviaiable downloads. I have purchased songs in the past and I cannot play them in my library now either. Something has changed to cause this to start happening but I don't know what.

Are you using a Mac or a PC ?
Is 'Pictures' the directory that you've chosen to sync photos (on the Photos tab) from on your computer ? When you sync photos iTunes creates an 'iPod Photo Cache' foldr under the folder that you've selected to sync photos from - it's possible that the Pictures directory doesn't currently have write access on it, so iTunes can't create that directory.
On a Mac you can go into Finder, select/highlight the Pictures folder and do 'get-info' (command-I) and change its sharing and permissions. If using a PC then you should be able to do similar via windows explorer

  • Don't have write access iTunes media folder or folder within it

I have recently restored my iTunes media from a two week old version from a Time machine backup
I deleted all the files in my MUSIC folder, and then restored the version that I last used two weeks ago.
Now when I try to burn a CD into iTunes I get this message " The file "xxxx" couldnt be converted - You don't have write access for your iTunes Media folder or a folder within it. To change permissions, select your iTunes Media folder in the Finder, and choose File > Get Info."
I have read many of the previous community submissions and "solutions", and so far I have done the following
    A) changed my folders to have "read/write" permissions
    B) gone into Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Run "verify disk permissions" and "repair disk permissions"
    C) gone into User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iTunes.plist.lock file and removed it to the desktop
    D) gone into Terminal App and run some script starting with sudo
    and still the issue persists.
Does anyone know what is the true solution?  -  I am at my wits end..!!

Does your "/Users/Shared" folder exist? If not , recreate it with the correct permissions, see this document:

  • " write access for your iTunes Media folder"

    Hello,
My iTunes all of a sudden started to gave me this error when I tried to update my iPhone Apps:
    *iTunes couldn't download your purchase*
*You don't have write access for your iTunes Media folder or a folder within it. Change permissions (in the Finder) and then choose Store > Check Available Downloads.*
This is most weird since I haven't done anything to the system nor the iPhone.
I tried to repair permissions, tried CHMOD and then booting from the installation disk and reset password, thrash preferences and the message is always there. Even weirder is the fact that when I connect my iPhone, iTunes ask me about "authorization", if I say AUTHORIZE, it gives me another error saying that it cannot be authorize because of an error, but it does not say what error!
If I deauthorize, I'll loose more than 200 Apps, but if I authorize, even with the correct password, it simply gives me that bloody error.
I do not know what else to do, any ideas?
And yeah... I tried going to the iTunes list, get info and authorize myself, despite being already authorized... by the way I do not have the "apply to the contents within...or something like that, you know what I'm talking about option". My system is 10.5.8. PPC, and I do not see the relevance but the iTunes list is hosted in an external HD.
I'll be more than thankful for any help.

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access.
the important part is to *apply to enclosed items* !

if above don't work, try the same procedure on the folder on the external containing your media files.

  • PLEASE HELP. you don't have write access for your itunes media folder or a folder within it

I am using Windows 7. If it makes a difference, my OS and important programs run on an SSD, while eveyrthing else is on a larger HDD. For awhile now I have had this problem anytime I try to do things in iTunes like import a CD, or a blu-ray digital copy. It gives me this error "you don't have write access for your itunes media folder or a folder within it windows 7." I have read tons of articles on how to change file permissions in windows and give full control and all that stuff. I swear I have read and tried anything remotely close to a solution for my issue, and it just wont fix it. Anyone have any out of the box ideas aside from changing permissions on the iTunes folder?
Also, when I make a new user account on my PC, the fresh iTunes on that account works just fine. So I don't know whats going on. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
