TTS voices - Captivate or Third Party

What TTS voices, Captivate or Third Party, have you found to sound most human? I have used some of the standard downloaded voices, but I am looking for something a bit more real sounding. Recording audio is not an option at this point in time. Suggestions?

Sorry, I don't, but I'm on the lookout for children's voices. Should anyone find a resource, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Looking for high quality 3rd party TTS voices for OSX

Looking for suggestions for commercial, high quality, 3rd party TTS voices. In the Windows world I was a happy Ivona user, but Ivona does not support Apple products. The best OSX TTS voices I've found so far are from Infovox ... better than the built-in TTS voices ... but no where close to Ivona.

There are additional OS  X voices that you can download as part of the operating system.
System Preferences > Dictation & Speech > Text to Speech > System Voice > Customize.
Download the addtional voices from the list and then select to use.

  • ICM Third party softphone with voice and video.

    Hi all,
My customer requested to implement video call on the company's web page, directly to the ICM.
I'm thinking of using a third party softphone API to acomplish this, making the CTI OS login transparent to the agent regardless of being a third party softphone.
Anybody knows if this could be done - login in third party softphone?
    Thanks in advance.

And taking it a step further, it's also a good idea to avoid manually updating anything mid-project.
    You are absolutely right Russ.
I've mistakenly updated FCPX thanks to this nasty little "update all" App Store button I've mechanically reached under the wrong user account, in the middle of a long night. My bad. (Who could be stupid enough to update its Software, on purpose, stuck in the middle of a huge project with approaching deadlines? Nobody I've ever heard of... except me).
Nonetheless Apple update/upgrade soft-warning policy on its pro software is a bit bold, to say the less,
especially since its QA and beta-testing processes seem pretty weak these days.
In my opinion, an update should never manipulate the user data in a destructive way but rather propose to work on a copy of it (as I've explained on another post: part of your libraries backups seem to have been upgraded as well with this update. Regarding the size of video files and complexity of video projects, the number of hard-drives involved, backups is not always as simple as having a time-machine running on the background even though we'd like to).

  • Add TTS Voice To Windows 7 and Set AS Default

We have tested Voices from a number of vendors and all work properly as far as being listed in the TTS speech section of the Control Panel and selectable as a system default with Windows XT and Windows Server 2008. There is a work around that solves an issue with Vista.
Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Server 2008 R2 require complex entries in the Speech Token section of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry. We have not found a single Voice installer that makes the correct entries in this registry nor have we located anyone who knows the details of what is required. There is an extensive description of the registry entries in an MSDN paper for SAPI 5.4 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee125663(VS.85).aspx), but it doesn't cover all of the entries that are used by Microsoft Anna. All of the SAPI 5+ Voices that we tested work properly on Windows 7 except for not being listed in the Control Panel TTS Speech section. Unfortunately, there is no known means of setting the default system Voice without it being in the Control Panel TTS listing..
A second issue is that many of the TTS speech vendors require that one purchase their application program in addition to one or more compatible Voices. You can purchase the Voices separately, but they cannot be installed. "stand alone".  There is an obvious business reason for this limitation, but it greatly increases the cost.
We use Micosoft's SAPI 5.1 SDK to test the Voices and to link them with our application programs.  There is an interesting sample program called TTSAppVB that can be used to locate all the Voices that are installed on one's computer. You can select a Voice of interest, change a number of parameters, and read textbox data. You cannot use this program to set the system default Voice.
    Robbie

By trying the method outlined above, I was able to change the default voice... Until I went back to the Control Panel>Speech Recognition applet afterwards. All I saw there was the same Microsoft Anna default voice, which to me was no good, so I did some
digging on my own, and found this bit of information:
While looking for "Microsoft Mike" within the registry (not visible in the standard TTS config window, but visible in the WoW64 version), I found an entry in this branch of the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\Tokens
While the entry for Microsoft Anna was in a completely different branch:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\Tokens
Now, I'm probably braver (read: stupider) than many folks, and I am NOT
suggesting this fix for anyone else, but it worked for me. Here's what I did (right after the usual warnings about mucking about in the registry):
    WARNING!!!
The registry contains essential configuration values that can adversely effect the operation of your computer, if not handled correctly, and with care. If you make the wrong changes in the registry, you can potentially do
IRREPARABLE damage to your computer, requiring a wipe/reinstall of your operating system, and potential loss of important documents or files. If you're not
100% confident that you know what you're doing, then don't do it. You HAVE been warned.
1.) Open the TTS config applet, as described above (%windir%\SysWOW64\speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl), and select a voice from the list other than Microsoft Anna. Note the name (e.g "Microsoft Mike", or one of any 3rd party voices you may have installed).
2.) Open regedit (see warning, above!) and search for the voice's name (e.g. "Microsoft Mike", or whatever). Your first "found" location for that string value SHOULD be at the branch I mentioned, above. If not, keep searching.
3.) Once found in the correct branch, right-click on the "Tokens" folder, just above your current location, in the nav panel, and click "Export". Save the file in a convenient location.
4.) Open that newly created .reg file by navigating to it in Explorer, right-clicking on the file, and selecting "Edit".
5.) Did you close Regedit yet? No? Good. Now follow the same steps above, this time looking for "Microsoft Anna". The correct branch that you want will be very similar or identical to the second registry branch I mentioned, above. Again, export
the Tokens folder to a convenient place, and "edit" this one, as well. In this file, the first line of registry entry information should look like this:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\Tokens]
6.) Select everything except the square brackets, but don't copy it yet.
7.) Switch to the other file, and highlight that same first entry line EXCEPT for the square brackets. Hit CTRL-C, CTRL-H, CTRL-V (Copy, Replace, Paste), then switch back to the other file, make sure the necessary text is still selected, then copy that.
Then back to the first file again, paste the new line into the "replace" textbox, and click "Replace All". Save the file.
8.) In explorer, select the file you just changed, and merge it back into the registry. This will "Add" all of the voices that were on the WoW64 version of the TTS config applet to the "regular" config applet. Please note that you "MAY"
get a warning that not everything was properly merged into the registry. If you get this warning, removing the information about Microsoft Anna should fix the issue quite nicely.
    Safe, Reliable Insanity, Since 1961!
So I know it's been a couple years, but I was using this as reference to try and add the new Speech Platform v11 voices to the win 7 TTS options. The above DOES work, but the details are slightly off. Technically to get them to work I had to add two sets
of registry entries. The method above got more than just Anna to list in TTS panel that you can access via control panel, but it did NOT add them to the one launched via SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl which would cause the computer to go back to Anna any
time TTS was used. The solution was to look deeper in the registry. The v11 voices are added to the registry at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech Server\v11.0\Voices AND
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Speech Server\v11.0\Voices. Said tree contained the proper token entries for each voice. Now the fun part:
    0. Pre-requisite: Download and Install Speech Platform Runtime Languages from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27224 and the Speech Platform v11 from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27225. There are many voices
to choose from, although en-US ZiraPro and en-GB Hazel are both good English options. Once you have selected voices, installed the Platform and voices proceed to making them work:
    1. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech Server\v11.0\Voices Click the Tokens folder and export. Save this file to your desktop as voices1.reg so it will be easy to find and line up with later steps.
    2. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Speech Server\v11.0\Voices
select Tokens and again export it, again to the desktop. Call it voices2.reg.
    3. EDIT (right click, select edit) voices1.reg. In notepad use the Replace function and replace
\Speech Server\v11.0\ with \Speech\ (Just replace that section, the rest will remain intact and entries with "[ ]" around them should read as such:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\*[*= some entries WILL be nested in folders below this. The key is making sure that the patch is \Speech\ and not \Speech Server\v11.0\).
    Save and close.
    4. EDIT (right click, select edit) voices2.reg. In notepad use the Replace function and replace
\Speech Server\v11.0\ with \Speech\ (Just replace that section, the rest will remain intact and entries with "[ ]" around them should read as such:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\*[*= some entries WILL be nested in folders below this. The key is making sure that the patch is \Speech\ and not \Speech Server\v11.0\). Save and close.
    5. Merge both of the files we just edited into the registry by double-clicking them and answering yes when prompted.
    6. Reboot computer and enjoy it's new voices.
Tested this on my laptop as well, slightly easier since its x86, it only involves the first registry file as Wow6432Node only exists on x64 architecture.
DISCLAIMER: This method works with the MS Speech Platform Server v11.0 voices available for download. The method is likely similar for adding purchased and third-party voices as well, but locating the voice tokens that you need to copy into the MS default
tokens will be up to you.
This worked for me! Sort of... New problem, though. Attempting to use WSR Macros to respond using TTS won't work. For example:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
    <speechMacros>
      <command>
        <listenFor>Hello computer </listenFor>
        <speak> hello user </speak>
      </command>
Throws an error with the information:
    <speak> executor failure!
    text: hello user
    speakFlags: "(null)" (0x00000010)
This looks to me as though there's some sort of command structure missing from Hazel (the Server TTS voice I downloaded). Can anyone offer me any pointers?
EDIT: Also applies to any other downloadable voice I try. Anna still works when swapped back to. Hazel doesn't; Cepstral's Millie and Damien also fail. All can narrate quite happily.

  • A "VZW free msg" says a phone on my account "made a charge with a third-party vendor ... ."

This evening, I got a "VZW free msg" alerting me that a phone on my account had "made a charge with a third-party vendor." This is the second such message I've gotten this billing period. The messages are identical. My bill for the current billing period won't be ready till this weekend, so I have no way to track down any details. The phone belongs to my wife, and I am absolutely certain that she has not billed anything to her phone. The maddening thing about these messages is they give no details. Who's the third-party vendor? How much was the charge? What did my wife supposedly buy? No such details appear in the text message, and I can't find details anywhere on the My Verizon site.
This text message does add: "For details or to block such charges: www.verizonwirel." (That's correct as written—I presume some of the message got truncated. That's how the message appeared both times.) However, I can't find any documentation about how to block these charges.
After I got the first of these messages, I called Verizon's customer service number (800.922.0204). A very pleasant gentleman noted my concern and checked my account. He found no such third-party charges, and he advised me to look carefully at my next bill. I left it at that until I got the second message this evening.
Speaking of customer service: This evening, I tried twice calling Verizon's customer service number. Both times, the call ended with a recorded voice telling me, "I'm sorry, but your call cannot be processed at this time. Please try your call later." Huh? Why not an offer to leave my number for a call-back? They as much as hung up on me. Not impressed. And, by the way, why doesn't Verizon post their customer service number on the Web site? I had to dig up the number by way of www.gethuman.com.

Contact us on every page has the number.
*611 from your device works as well.
That third party stuff is probably "cramming" Verizon just got hit with this practice which is illegal.
The law states you can call Verizon up and have them place a permenant block on third party services.
They cannot refuse and you do not have to pay for them.

  • How can I set Paul to be the default TTS voice?

Is there a way to set a TTS voice as the default so that it is always selected by default as the voice to use? I have all the voices installed and it currently defaults to Bridget - I guess because that is the first voice in the list. I normally use Paul but sometimes others so I want access to all the voices but would like the default to be Paul. I know that once I set Paul for the first slides, it defaults for that project for the rest of the slides, but I have to do this for every project and if I forget to set Paul then I have to go back and redo the slides. It would be nice if I could set the default to the voice I use the most often. I'm using Captivate 7.

    j,
In the Finder, single-click on any text file, then type command-I (Get Info). You'll see an Open With... menu item. Select Pages from the list (if it's not in the list, navigate to it). Finally, click the Change All button. Use the same process for .doc files. Now, if you double-click on any of these files, it should open in Pages.

  • What third party drive do I use to connect my umi-7764 to a phytron stepper motor (zss66)

I would like to connect my phytron stepper motor (zss66) to my UMI-7764, do I need a third party drive ?
And if i need one, which one ?
    Thank !
Seb (I am french so if you want to aswer french, let's go )

    Sebastien,
(Voir
le bas de la page web)
    http://www.ni.com/devzone/advisors/motion/driveadvisor.htm
Je ne connais pas les spec de votre stepper, mais si vous désirez l'utiliser avec un UMI 7764, le plus simple serait de contacter la fbricant de ce moteur, et d'obtenir une liste de drive que celui conseille.

  • Lync integration with Third-Party mail server's

    Hi all,
Does Lync integrates with any third party mail servers?
Or it integrates only with Exchange Server?
    Regards,
    ArunKumar.J

Agree with Thamara.  Exchange is the only platform supported for presence as well as voice functionality.  The client uses EWS to communicate with the server to check calendar integration, nothing else is going to mimic this properly enough to
    avoid issues.

  • Chess plugins or third party add-ons?

Are there any Apple or third party plugins that add functionality to the Chess.app? It is a great game but I think it could use a few more options:
seeing the taken pieces on the sides, variations (spliting one game into different one from a particular point in the game to examine variations in strategy), the ability to set the board with only certain chosen pieces and start the game from there (example start a game with only 2 kings, 2 few pawns, towers in order to study certain tactics the way a portable chess computer does).
Also, did anyone notice the the two white knights are turned the wrong way,
They are not facing the black knights. It's like the programmers forgot to draw them! Is Apple thinking of developping this great game more in the future?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Is Apple thinking of developping this great game more in the future?
Please read the terms of use on the right about rumors and speculation. I think this question is asking for an answer no one can provide on this forum without getting into trouble.
As for plugins I know of none. However, there are numerous Chess alternative titles available on http://guide.apple.com/ http://www.versiontracker.com/ and http://www.macupdate.com/
I think I noticed when I had voice recognition turned on that I could move the pieces with it.

    Dear All,
We have two cucm Clusters in Different Locations between that clusters i created
Inter-Cluster Trunk (Non-Gatekeeper Controlled) Now all are working fine Between Clusters
audio calls & Video calls between sccp 8945 phones  , but iam facing a Problem with third party
Video Phones (Polycom VVX 1500 ) Third Party SIP Phones located in second cluster, From 1 st cluster cisco 8945 Video
phone to  2nd cluster Polycom Video phone all calls are works for voice call only, but no video ,
    Please Suggest me Solution.
    Thank you,
    Sriman

Try setting up a SIP trunk between the two clusters and set a route patten just to the VVX 1500 and check how that goes.
From memory inter-cluster trunks are a H.323 like protocol which might have video inter-op issues with the Polycom device.

  • Activate a call forward with a Third-party SIP Device or with a analog device

    Hi,
In a CUCMv9, how i can activate a call forward (all, busy, no anwser...) with Third-party SIP Device or with a analog device connected to a fxs?
I want to activate a call forward like a Alcatel or Aastra PBX with a code.
For exemple, i pick up the phone, with the code *95 followed by the destination number and hangs up the phone. And use the #95 for désactivate this call forward.
    It's possible?
    Thanks.

No codes for 3rd party SIP phones, no way to do it. Or for that matter, not even for Cisco Phones, other than CFA.
Anything besides CFA needs to be done via CCMadmin or CCMuser for any kind of phone.
For FXS that's only doable if you're running SCCP

  • Paging Third Party SIP Phones connected to CUCM

Current SetUp: CUCM - Cisco 3925, Two MCS 7816 (Call Control Server) and One MCS 7825 (Voice mail server)
We have third party SIP phones configured in auto answer mode. These phones are used to make live announcements.
    To Do:
There are approximately 80 phones in the system and the requirement is to select any combination of these phones to make Public announcement (or Paging).
Is there an application that enables us to select any combination of phones on the fly to do paging? How can we select a mp3 file to play on a phone in an auto answer mode?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

There's nothing built into call manager to do this.  You could investigate using the Cisco Unified Application Environment (CUAE) and write a script to do this, or there are some 3rd party applications that might work for you such as Berbee's Informacast.

  • Migrating third-party applications from 4.x to 5.x

    Hi all.
My customer wants to migrate its CUCM 4.1.3 to 5.1.3. He has some third-party applications that read CDR's and process the information. I've heard that in version 5.x it's not possible to directly access to CDR in order to obtain the required data but you have to use the CAR tool. Is this true? Or you can use Informix commands via a third-party application to access the information at CDR's?
    Thanks for your help.

The CDR records are stored in flat files and then FTPd or SFTPd to your choice of up to 3 billing servers. If you upgrade from Cisco Unified CallManager 4.x, Cisco Unified CallManager saves the CDRs in the CAR database to CSV files. The Data Migration Tool uses these CSV files to upgrade the CAR database. The system stores the CSV files in /common/download/windows/car. The system stores the pregenerated reports in /common/download/windows/pregenerated.
Because Cisco Unified CallManager 5.x does not use a CDR database to store CDR records as in previous releases, the CDR data does not migrate to the Cisco Unified CallManager 5.x system.
