Turn Flash Sound OFF in Javascript or HTML

My client would like the Flash banner I'm using to play audio
only on the home page. Can I shut the sound off in javascrpt or
html (in the object tag properties)? Client does not want a sound
toggle button - simply no sound.
I know I can create a second version of the Flash without
sound - but then users would have to load that file in addition to
the first Flash. I've searched without any luck. Any help would be
much appreciated.

Oh OK, if you want a global volume control, you give it an
argument of
'_root' and you can store a reference to it in _global so
that you can
access it from anywhere. so, on frame 1 of your flash, do
this:
_global.sound_control = new Sound(_root);
then to mute to volume from wherever you like you call:
_global.sound_control.setVolume(0);
so for example if you had a button called 'mute_btn':
this.mute_btn.onRelease = function()
_global.sound_control.setVolume(0);

Is there anyway to just disable sound on iChat...its really simple on AIM but I like iChat better...i just dont like any noises from it..like when I'm playing music i dont want the swishing noise...is there anyway to turn all sound off..

Try here....
iChat > Preferences > Alerts.
You can change / de-select the sounds for all the actions there.

It's pamonvashon again (the person who posted the question). I fixed it so I'll tell you how in case it happens to you. I was correct. I went back and re downloaded the game, "Virble". At the beginning of the game o I used the buttons on the side of the phone to turn the sound off and on and the sound came on! A miracle! So beware of VIRBLE!!!

This is the stupidest question anyone has ever asked I'm sure. But how in the world do you turn the music off? If I just turn the sound off, then it doesn't want to work in other apps either and the music just goes on and on.

Your MBP has unusual symptoms. I suggest starting with an Apple Hardware Test:

You may need to start it with the OPTION and D keys.
It may be helpful if you indicated the model of your MBP and the OS.

Turning the Sound off when clicking on a book

I have published a document (in Robohelp6) and when you click
on the book (in the left hand table to contents) it plays a sound.
I didn't design it to play a sound, but it does. How do I remove
it? I looked in properties but it shows no sounds attached to the
file.
(and yes I know that I can just turn my speakers off, but the
users want their speakers on - )

While I never heard of this happening with CHM files, I
suspect Colum has hit this one. It may vary from user to user
though based on their settings and OS. We configured our software
to do this years ago and there is no setting in the software
itself.
One question first. Does it happen with all help files or
just yours?
From your Windows control panel, select Sounds and Audio
devices. Click on the Sounds tab. There should be a list of
"Program events:" that trigger sounds. See if you can find the help
call and turn it off. If that is where it is, you may have no
control over it because it might be the way the operating system
was set up.

My phone turns its sound off

it seems that randomly my phone alerts just turn off. for no reason, it just happens
i'm not sure why or how this happens either. since the vibrate will always work, but sometimes when my phone is set to loud it just won't make any noise, is there a way to fix this? the only way i can fix it is by a battery pull which is a bit annoying by now

It sounds like a possible corrupt profiles database.
Follow KB10167 to clear the databases (Sounds and Profiles)
You will have re-establish your tones afterwards.

How Can Turn the Sound off When Leaving a Slide?

I have a slide with an FLV in it but the audio stays on when
I leave the slide. How do I fix that?

You can't turn off the screen as such, but there are ways of playing the audio only from a movie.
On your iPod go to "Videos / Video Settings".
Then select "TV Out" and set it to "on". I think that works.
Or, you can access the video via the audio/music menu. For instance, if you have a video mixed in an audio playlist and you access it through that, you won't be able to see the video but you will hear the audio track.

AS2 Flash Sounds MUTE on page navigate HTML

Hi, I have just done couple of banners for Dettol with BG sound, now the client wants the sound to be stopped when he navigates away to a different web page
The issue is
Mouse-over the banner and press alt-tab. The music keeps playing and you can't stop it!
Without mouse-over (music is playing at this point), press alt-tab and go to another application. Press alt-tab and come back to the browser and the music starts playing, even though the mouse is not over the animation
Please help.

There is music playing in the background every time I open Firefox. How do I stop the music without turning all sound off?

I don't get this music with any other browser, only Firefox. ITunes is off. I don't see any setting in Preferences that would cause this. . Apple Care tells me that it's a Mozilla Firefox problem.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

HOW DO I TURN THE SOUND OFF!!!

It seems like every other time I start my computer, I have to hear the loud ping whe it starts, and the other annoying noises while I'm computing, often in quiet meetings and such. I always go into system preferences, click on the mute button and then return, but somehow it resets to NON MUTE soon thereafter. Anyway to stop it from talking?

Or plug an audio mini-plug into the sound out port (you don't even need to have the headphones still attached to the plug). On my computer, the mini-plug diverts the signal away from the built-in speakers.

tutorial you referenced is antiquated.
